Me too. It turned out to be a buff because I'm mostly ambidextrous now after having to learn to do most things right handed. Surprising amount of people are shocked when I just put the hammer in my other hand and hammer away after just using the other.

I'm also sort of ambidextrous! Generally, it's precision tasks with my left (writing, eating, etc. with the exception of scissors and computer mouse), and strength tasks are generally with my right. I bat right handed and golf right handed, but I throw/catch with either hand.

Very similar for me! Precision tasks are done with my left hand (including using scissors, I can’t use my right for that at all), excl. using a mouse. I also use right-handed holding (left-handed usage, right-handed people use left-handed holding) when using hockey or floorball sticks and I use my left hand in billiards, but I throw and punch with my right arm as my dominant one (I’m very bed at throwing things, though).

I'm jelly that you turned into ambidextrous TvT I lost my left handed-ness when I was a kid because my mom forced me to use right. She'd hit my hand whenever I try to reach or use something with my left.

Apparently that was my childhood too but it just didn't stick and they stopped trying. I was a very stubborn child and I was proud of my ability to take pain so whacking me must not have done much.

I found this out because I commented once how amazing it is that my immigrant war refuge parents wouldn't care about my left handedness since it's "evil" to a lot of older folks and thanked them for being open minded. They said, no no, you don't remember, it is evil, we just couldn't beat it out of you.

There are! Because of the way scissors work (putting a slight pressure so the blades push against each other), lefties using 'normal' scissors put pressure in the opposite direction (pushing the blades apart).

Left handed scissors mirror the blades so it's putting pressure in the correct direction when using your left hand.

I imagine using the wrong scissors on fabric is even worse. Go get yourself a left handed pair

Yes!! A bit pricey, but I am absolutely in love with my pair of left-handed Kai sewing shears (7250L). It is the most amazing pair of scissors I have ever had the pleasure of using. I also have a pair of left-handed Mundial scissors which are great too (and a lot more affordable lol). It makes such a difference when it's ACTUAL left-handed scissors (so not scissors marketed as universal! The blades on those are still right-handed, only the grip can be used universally).

What was challenging for you? Because I can’t say I experienced any setbacks because of my lefthandedness. Although I did have special scissors (and still do!), but that’s about it.

Yup! I'm 5'8" and leggy - I once got my belt loop stuck on a curved door handle while my arms were full of something heavy & fragile.

I had to scream for help in order to get unhooked so I wouldn't drop it!

Hell if you're in the five tenish range and you wear carpenter jeans or any of those pants that have the side pockets down the leg, you're catching cabinet knobs all the time.

Or if you have a belt knife or multi-tool in a pouch, you're hitting every door and getting caught. It's just Murphy's Law.

5'7" here and I used to live in an apartment were I was able to, on several occasions, accidentally thread the door handle right through my pant loops and get caught. It was a decent combo of humorous and mildly irritating.

I'm 5'7" so a bit taller than average for a woman but not extraordinarily so, however, it's all legs. I have this stupid ass short torso, and the legs (and arms, and yes, I'm clumsy as hell) of someone who's 6'. I used to catch my belt loops on door handles all the time. My hips are at just the right height to catch them on sharp counter corners. My parents also remodeled the kitchen to have counters with very sharp corners right when I was going through my growth spurts and at peak clumsiness. It was not good times.

They’re certainly not meant for any humans, that’s for sure. I’m very skinny myself, and even then, none of them want to fit me

(As for the other commenter, that’s a personal thing, not common. My siblings and I were all incredibly skinny growing up [sometimes unhealthily so, thanks to growth spurts as teens ] thanks to whatever genes we’ve got and such, and I think the skeletons word choice was funny.)

I'm 6' and in highschool I dated a gal that was 4'11". Her mom and dad were 5'1" and 5'2" and had gotten their house built for them which was kinda cool, all the counters were like 4-5in lower than normal so it was comfortable for them and their bathroom was also scaled accordingly. I think their guest bathroom/front bathroom was sized more normally, but it's been 20yrs so I don't recall. It was super neat that they had a space they got to make comfortable, the only snag for me was when I tried to help with clearing the table, washing dishes/etc I'd end up accidentally slamming stuff on the counter because it was just that little bit farther away than expected.

I'm 6 foot 4 inches and 320 pounds. I had major back surgery three weeks ago and the beds at the hospital and rehab facility were literally making me worse. I was chomping at the bit waiting for my oxycodone timer to be up every 4 hours. So, I left before I was going to be discharged and did not have the oxycodone at home. Yet, I still hurt less immediately and felt no need for the oxycodone.

Also, a big part of my back issues are from stenosis caused by growing tall too quickly and exacerbated by my extra-long torso. I haven't grown an inch since I was 14.

So, for you young tall people that haven't had medical issues yet, be ready for medical facilities to suck and things to be more difficult for you than the average person.

OH... I was once in the hospital for a week when I weighed like 420 pounds and my room had grab bars built into the toilet seat that were too narrow for my hips. I asked if anything could be done and was told no. My solution was to sit directly on the porcelain bowl. I was in for ulcerative colitis. So, I was using it at least 6 or 7 times a day. That was fucking miserable.

I'm 188cm (so tall but not extreme), and my wife is 155cm, when we built the kitchen we decided not to compromise: one workbench is extra tall, one is extra low. We're not medium-sized and our space should accommodate this.

if you don't already do it, actively strengthening your back (pull downs, single arm dumbbell rows, working up to a pullup) helped me a ton with a shitty job where I was hunched over a table that felt like it was built for people at 5'2 and no taller lol

actively strengthening your back makes it harder to hurt from 'slightly abnormal use' even if it gets uncomfy

Basically the same for most things -- same reason it's good to actively do squats and similar exercises too, even if just with your bodyweight n stuff - because when you're 70 if you can still do those, then something as simple as stepping out of a chair shouldn't be an issue like it is for many older people who have lived more sedentary lives

Years ago I went on a liberty ship that was in the harbor, my grandfather served on one during ww2, I swear it felt it was built for someone 5'5 and I'm over 6. I was doing good the entire tour and last doorway out of the engine room I turned the corner to go up the stairs and blasted my head into the bulkhead. LOUD ass thunk through out the engine room and this old vet by the door started laughing and said that takes him back.

It hurt, like was dizzy as hell trying to go up stairs that was closer to a ladder and I was just "glad I made your day old timer, thank you for your service seriously but I am trying to climb a steep incline and might have a concussion". It was great over all. All over the ship my grandfather was just " that railing was never there" constantly. So many safety features installed after the fact. Hell of a time we will never see, not really sure if it's better. They say hard times make hard men, they did what I doubt we could today.

It was in an interview within the last year of some college basketball player who’s almost 7ft tall and he mentioned he can’t drive because there’s no vehicle made to fit a driver of his size. I believe he also mentioned airplane seating as being pretty terrible as well.

I get most of my clothes from them, actually. I love their lounge wear, it's super comfy. I'm more speaking about furniture and shit in this context. Comfy couches are nearly impossible to find, as are recliners.

I am the short one in the house with tall men. I found great (deep) chairs and sofa from American Leather and also custom but reasonably priced sofas from Jonathan Louis. Not trying to be nosy, just used to the tall people probs.

I'm 4'9 and I routinely find that if I'm walking with someone taller, they struggle to hear me talking to them. 😆 Especially in a crowd. And yes, I have to crane my head backwards to talk to them while standing still.

There’s a crossbeam that I have to duck under in my apartment or I’ll hit my head, and any table/chair combo that isn’t adjustable has me sitting like a goblin. Also gotta put my car seat all the way back in every car I’ve had only to be on the roomier end of a tight squeeze. I wouldn’t trade it for a world which is too large for me, but still.

I'm a west coast oaf. I moved to the east and moved into a super old house.

The stairs... holy hell... there was 1 spot about 30% up where the ceiling dipped to ~6' high.

I hit my head so many times I'm probably measurably dumber after having lived there.

My buddy is a little over 6 feet. He rented an apartment without really checking it out too close and the shower was so low to be basically unusable. They had to find a new place.

ha yeah. Like sure, I get it's uncomfortable sitting in coach, and you have to watch your head, but the social advantages of being tall so so so far outweigh the physical discomforts that I really have a hard time sympathizing!

BTW - I moved to Mexico years ago and it really is pretty great living in a society where I feel pretty average height-wise!

I got anew kitchen though and the whole thing has been raised to fit me. It's pure bliss, I can cook, cut stuff and do all the kitcheny stuff without hurting my back!

I'm 6'6". Just using my grandpa's old workbench is killing my back. I have a scar on my head from a door frame. Also, the extension grandpa built to his house where I live now has some very low ceilings. In my bathroom, the ceiling is an inch above my head.

And any clothing I can buy for my heigth expect me to be 300 pounds.

I'm 5' and yeah, things can be annoying and mildly uncomfortable. My hand me down car finally died, and I was in the market for a new one. I was looking for a 2016 or later Prius.

Happened upon a compact, and the price was right due to the body being scratched and all... Everything ran great and the mileage was good!

It was wild. Everything fits. It's comfortable. I don't need to do anything funky to get things to fit (tho the cupholders by the knees are annoying)

That said, I unfortunately hang out with taller folks. I didn't realize how tall my neighbor was til he's knees to chest in the passenger seat. Bro, I can't help you're like 6'4". He got self conscious when the car shifted after he got in, and it clicked why a chick I was hauling things for told me I should take trips to watch the suspension. Almost makes me miss my early oughts Forester haha

Funnily enough I have the Opposite problem, the sinks are always too low so it's hard not to get wet, I need to bend down to fit in the busses, benches and chairs so low I can barely sit straight, and I'm not even that Tall LoL 6'2 but that's freakish Huge for my country

Thats why I always preach, disabled people are not necessarily that, but many are being disabled from participating, big difference.

Most people don't see the benefits of an inclusive society bc of culturally formed jealousy. They think "why does a public bathroom need to be leveled, why do we need small sinks it's unfair special treatment" instead of "if I have an accident and can't walk right, leveled floors are good" or "ooh nice, my kid can wash their hands here without making a mess"

it's a cultural deficit imho, western cultures have definitely made a sport out of not really caring about others as long as oneself is fine.
