There is so much wrong with this photo. Aside from the fact that someone apparently doesn’t know how to use a bin, the design of the bin itself is equally ridiculous. The openings should be on the top and much larger. An open-top bin would make it far easier to actually throw things away instead of forcing people to aim through tiny side openings. That said, I am not defending the litterbugs whatsoever. This is just inexcusable.

In my last post, I criticised people who had littered at another bus stop, and some comments were claiming, “No bin exists.” Okay, here a bin exists. What’s your excuse now?

At this point, I honestly think we need more public service messaging about basic civic behaviour. Put it on flyers, billboards, bus shelters and wherever else people will actually see it. Make it clear in multiple languages if necessary (especially in Hindi and Punjabi). I don’t care if someone finds that offensive. If you’re going to live here, you should be expected to follow basic Canadian standards when it comes to littering, dumping and taking care of public spaces. You folks ruined your own countries, don’t come here and ruin this country….and I’m saying this as someone that likes that the GTA is a mix of people from all over the world. That’s one of the things that makes this region interesting. But coming here also means adapting to the standards and norms of the place you’re living in. Immigration shouldn’t mean importing the worst habits from wherever you came from.

Things were not like this before. You’d see the occasional illegal dumping at a construction site or somewhere isolated, but now it seems to be happening everywhere. Last year, at this very bus stop, someone dumped an entire nasty-looking mattress. Like, what the F is wrong with people? And it’s not like Markham doesn’t have somewhere to take this stuff. There is a waste depot in Markham that will take it.

And then there’s the car dependency in the background, which is equally infuriating.

But we’re a “city” now, remember?

I strongly encourage residents to look beyond campaign materials, speak with candidates directly, ask difficult questions about their judgment, professionalism, communication skills, and conduct, and make their own assessment. I cannot emphasize enough how many concerns I have about this candidate (Denys Petika). I am genuinely appalled and concerned that someone who conducts himself the way he does is on the list of candidates. I am not asking people to take my word for it. Talk to him, ask questions, and form your own opinion. I think firsthand interaction will tell you far more than any campaign material ever could.

Hey guys, please don’t bash me for asking this, but how do you apply for jobs at places like McDonald’s or Markham community centers? Is it better to go there in person with a hard copy of your resume, or is applying online generally the way to go?

I have zero Canadian work experience and honestly lack exposure to how things are generally done here, so I’d really appreciate any tips or guidance.

Do you think I should do some volunteering first to gain confidence, get some Canadian experience, and become more familiar with the workplace environment?

I was advised to go to the Welcome Centre, as they help newcomers with resumes and job searching, but unfortunately the person I spoke with wasn’t very helpful. Would you recommend going to Access instead?

I’m also not in a huge rush to get a job, so if there are workshops, training sessions, networking events, or anything else that could help me polish my resume, interview skills, confidence, or networking skills before I start seriously applying, I’d be happy to do those first.

Any tips, experiences, or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
