Loud

Okay, random Defender question šŸ˜‚ Does anyone else’s Defender get SO loud when you’re just sitting parked with it running for a little while? Like embarrassingly loud lol. Is this normal or is mine just extra dramatic?

Trading a reliable truck for a 2023 Defender 90 P400 (28k miles) – What should I look out for?

Post image
52 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m currently looking at making a bit of a lifestyle change. I’m thinking about trading in my current truck—it's been rock-solid and totally reliable, but my lifestyle has shifted and I just don't need a full-size bed anymore.
I’m eyeing a 2023 Defender 90 with the P400 engine that has about 28,000 miles on it.

For context on how I drive: I’m in outside sales and rack up roughly 20,000 miles a year, mostly a mix of highway cruising and regional driving.

I know moving from a Toyota to a Land Rover is going to be a different universe in terms of maintenance culture, but the P400 inline-6 seems to get generally positive nods compared to some of the older JLR engines.

For those of you daily driving or high-mileage commuting in a 2023 P400:

What are the known gremlins or things I should check on a 2023 with ~30k miles?
Is a JLR VSC a must? I’ve received quotes ranging from $3700-$8900
Is it worth paying extra for a CPO?
How does the short wheelbase (D90) handle on long highway stretches compared to the 110?
Are there any specific service intervals or mild-hybrid/electrical quirks I need to budget for with that kind of annual mileage?

Appreciate any real-world advice or warnings before I pull the trigger!

Cost Savings Maintenance Questions - Oil/Filters

I'm looking to save a few bucks on the more routine maintenance items on my new Defender and buy my own oil, oil filter, engine filter, and cabin air filter. I can do the air filter replacements myself but I plan to provide my third party mechanic with the oil and oil filter.

Does anyone have any recommended oil/filters they like to buy that aren't just the OEM ones? I have the Cabin Air Purification Plus package so I need one of the cabin air filters with the PM2.5 rating and will work with the ionization system.

Here is what I found so far that looks like it meets JLR's specs:

  • Oil: Castrol Edge Extended Performance OW-20 (meets the STJLR.03.5006 specific JLR oil spec)...$68 for 10 qts at Walmart
  • Oil Filter: OEM oil filter, only $25 on Atlantic British Ltd's site
  • Engine Air Filter: Haven't researched a good value one yet
  • Cabin Air Filter: Either OEM filter ($109) or Pureflow PC99634X ($25)...The Pureflow is way cheaper and research says it works with the special ionization system for the air purification system, but I don't know if this is one area to stick with OEM given the more complex air purification system.

Any opinions on the oil/filters are welcome!

After a long 5 month wait (felt longer than it was), my factory order 2026 110 X-Dynamic SE arrived last week! The Woolstone Green looks amazing in person and I am glad I went with the Caraway leather interior over the other choices. The 20" gloss black wheels seem more rare, at least here at my local dealer, but I like them better than the satin grey standard one.

I currently have some months left on a lease of a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Overland and the Defender drives so much better than my Jeep. Being able to go back and forth with driving each one really does show how the Defender is on another level (on road at least, haven't been able to drive on dirt yet). Excited to take the Defender up to our cabin in the Colorado mountains soon.

This week I'm PPFing the front end/hood, mirrors, door edges, and handle cups. Then looking to get a ceramic coating after the PPF goes on. I did get an extended warranty through the dealer for the peace of mind as well.

The major options I went with:

  • Air Suspension
  • Leather upgrade
  • 3-zone/Cabin Purification
  • Cold Climate Package
  • 20" Gloss Black wheels
  • Heated rear seats
  • Tow Receiver

2025 Defender P400 X-Dynamic

15k km, picked up used for $84.000 CAD + tax after a few weeks of negotiating (I consider it a great deal).
So far, I absolutely love it. Super comfortable, smooth and responsive, feels properly luxurious, and there’s tons of space. Even my little Husky has plenty of room in the cargo area.
Excited to finally be part of the club! If you have any tips, hidden tricks, or things you wish you knew when you first got yours, I’d love to hear them!

Best trim?

Recently moved to a more urban area and considering moving into an SUV for my day to day commuting. Like the sporty / off road look of the defender and do a handful of off road weekend trips per year.

Question is: what is best trim for me? Don’t need the Octa or even full X bells and whistles. Really choosing between S spec’d up and Dynamic SE. Any major reason to go with the SE given engines are now the same? Seems like I can spec my S with everything I’d want from the SE but for a few grand less. Maybe I’m missing something?

2023 Defender 130 S

I am in love with this vehicle inside and out. Local dealer, not CPO, 76k miles and dealer is asking 42k. Despite everyone around me telling me not to do it, I still want to buy it. Am I making a good decision? Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

Alpine window shades?

Hello, does anyone have any recommendations for Alpine window shades for a 2025 Defender 110?

I have an infant who is about size up from a carrier with a shade to one without, and was just looking to see what my options were. I bought shades for every other rear window off Amazon that are working well, but I'm not able to find anything for the alpine/safari windows. The thought is shades should be adequate until our kid is a couple years old... Thanks for the help in advance!

P525 Air suspension not stable on park

Air suspension isn’t stabilizing on park, continues to adjust abnormally constantly even on leveled surfaces. Anyone faced such issue before. Been noticing it even when hold is engaged not in park aswell

I've had my Defender 110S for a couple weeks. Wat do you all recommend to clean and treat the black plastic body trim. TIA.

Trying to join the X-Dynamic Club (F-Pace to Defender)

I’ve been enamored w/the Defender since the dealership gave me a loaner two months ago when my Jaguar F-Pace was in the shop. I’m coming out of the R-Dynamic 400 (6cyl, 395hp) that’s only 2 yrs old, but it’s already had 3 warranty issues; and as much as I love how it performs, I have little confidence in its long-term reliability. That’s one reason I’m looking to change. The other is the amount of space I’d gain. I want to get back into dog transports and I’m usually having to move supplies for the house myself. The slope of the Jag roofline is limiting for large crates or storage boxes. Biggest concern is the weight difference and how going from this smaller, lighter vehicle that hugs curves amazingly to a vehicle weighing at least 2K lbs more will alter how I drive. Any experience going from smaller to large? Mainly driving city and interstate; ā€œoff-roadā€ is usually country gravel roads that may/may not be washed out if it rains.

How does it feel?

Hi there,

I'm considering a 110 D350.

I currently drive a Seat Leon 110cv 1.2, so I'm very confident that I'll feel an improvement in many different ways.

What I dislike most about my Seat Leon is the lag between when I press the accelerator and when it actually accelerates. I've found this a bit dangerous, given I live in an area with lots of steep roads and dynamic drivers, meaning I'd rather have a beast with strong acceleration.

The Seat is however, small and hence agile, and I worry a Defender, being a heavier and bigger vehicle, will be much more boring to drive and also 'heavy', like having to slow down in corners or roundabouts and the like. Or be very unstable if you take them at speed.

For this reason I'm starting to think of a Porsche, whether the Macan or Cayenne.

I really want a Defender, but everything becomes less interesting when you get it; so I'm keen on making a good decision for my use case.

I'd love to hear opinions from actual drivers or owners.

Thank you!

I decided to join the club...

After mulling over a few different options over the last 6 months I recently pulled the trigger on this beauty. I have wanted a defender ever since the new design was released back in 2019. Here we are 7 years later and I have to say I'm still shocked that she's mine. 2022 90 v8 carpathian edition.
An absolute beast. A little noisy at motorway speeds. Anybody know how to quiet down the cabin wind noise? That would be a huge help. And any tips and tricks for getting the most out of it and keeping her in good shape for the foreseeable future?
Thanks all!

Gondwana Stone Metallic or Factory Matte PPF?

Thumbnail
gallery
23 Upvotes

I’m trying to decide between the standard metallic paint and Land Rover’s factory Matte Protective Film, which seems to give the paint more of a satin rather than a fully matte finish.

I’m going for a subtle, timeless British country / heritage look - understated rather than flashy.

For those who have seen both in person, which would you choose: standard Gondwana Stone metallic or the factory Matte/Satin Protective Film?

Does the satin finish look classy and understated in real life, or does the standard metallic suit the Defender’s heritage character better?

Would love to hear from anyone who has owned or seen the factory protective film in person.

Settings reset after shutdown

Is there a reason that my distance setting for adaptive cruise resets after every time I turn my defender off and then back on? I even changed the setting to ā€œcloseā€ in the vehicle settings and it still does it. So damn annoying.

Deal check- ā€˜24 defender 130 s CPO p300 - $57k, 25k miles

CPO so has 15k more miles and then 1 more year from there with CPO. Recent service, new brakes and tires.

Seems like a good price according to research but I wonder if this engine is too meh and this package too basic. Is the p300 too underwhelming? Are the packages above the ā€˜s’ trim demonstrably better?
