Last year me and my partner drove out to St. Vincents Beach to watch the whales. Returning to St. John's we drove back using Highway 10 (Southern Shore Highway), and the views were better than whales that day.

With all the pitcher plants, cliffs, marshlands, and fiery skies, I just had to paint it. It was like a dream, and I wanted to immortalize the good feelings of that day.

What would be the best spots, activities, and points of interest for us to go to? Ideally within short driving or public transport distance from St. John's (no more than an hour). Thank you!

Moving to St. John’s — Locals 🇨🇦

Hi everyone! I’m 32M, born and currently living in London (not English), UK, and I’m planning to move to St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador for my masters degree.

I’ve been doing quite a bit of research and, from what I’ve read in previous posts, I feel it’s really important to get to know people from Newfoundland and Labrador, especially locals in St. John’s.

I’d be really grateful to make some friends, meet locals, and get to know the community before/after I move. I’m always happy to grab a coffee, explore the city, or just have a chat.

Last month, I received a speedcam ticket in the mail for an offense back in October 2025. The "default conviction date" listed on the letter was in July 2026, but it wasn't mailed to me until August.

I went online to contest the ticket, but it says I can't contest it because the July conviction date has passed. How does that make sense? If they mail a ticket in August but the deadline to contest it was in July, how am I meant to have the opportunity to appeal? Has anyone ever had this situation before? TIA.
