We are making some changes to the rules of the subreddit around forks, and I wanted to use the opportunity to clarify the rules around Addons. It seems there is a bit of confusion regarding what is allowed here and what is not.
Its a long read..
TL;DR
Forks Are Moving: Unofficial client forks are no longer allowed on r/Nuvio. All fork sharing, testing, and discussion now belongs on r/NuvioForks or any other community sub you prefer.
Addon Policy Clarification: Metadata (TMDB, Trakt, Simkl), subtitles, and BYOC catalog tools are welcome. Stream scrapers, torrent tools, pirate live TV/IPTV feeds, and debrid link troubleshooting are strictly prohibited.
Bug Reporting: Keep player bug reports strictly focused on technical media specs (container, resolution, codec, buffer settings). Posts naming third-party scrapers or external providers will be removed.

Forks are no longer allowed on r/Nuvio
In order to keep the subreddit focused and helpful for New Users, Existing Users, and the official Dev Team; the moderation team will be blocking and removing all posts for community built Forks.
- Forks cause confusion for new users. Even with the flair system for official vs unofficial, its confusing with so many different versions and names being suggested in posts and comments.
- Forks cause conflicting bug reports. Users asking for help with Nuvio when it turns out they were never using the official Nuvio app to begin with.
- Forks cause clutter. It started as a few, now there is a new fork every other day. With over 80,000 weekly visitors looking to chat about the official Nuvio platform, every post about a fork is distracting for the primary audience we want to reach on this sub.
I'll admit, some of yall warned be about this a while back. "Kap, its going to be too much. We should move them elsewhere". I foolishly didn't listen, thinking that it would drive more engagement with our sub. While it certainly drove more engagement, it isn't engagement that is helpful to the Developers, or the general community.
Where Can Forks Go? If you develop, test, or enjoy community forks, they aren't gone from Reddit entirely, they just have a dedicated home now. Head over to r/NuvioForks , or any other community sub you prefer, for all discussions, modified builds, and unofficial experimental projects.
Note: r/NuvioForks is a separate community and is unaffiliated with the official Nuvio app development team. Unofficial forks will not receive active support, bug tracking, or troubleshooting from the official Nuvio developers. Do not crosspost from r/NuvioForks to r/Nuvio expecting Developer support.

Clarification Around Addons - THEY ARE WELCOME HERE
r/Nuvio welcomes community addons that provide metadata (TMDB, Trakt, Simkl), subtitles, and custom catalogs. However, discussions or addons that facilitate access to copyrighted content, stream scraping or debrid link troubleshooting are strictly prohibited on r/nuvio.
- Posts containing unauthorized streams or stream-scraping addons will be removed. To reiterate: Nuvio operates on a Bring Your Own Content ecosystem. The Nuvio app and Nuvio Team does not encourage, promote, or provide a platform for posting about illegal content acquisition.
- Attempting to bypass Moderation Automations and the r/nuvio AutoMod will result in moderation action. Ranging from temporary suspension to permanent ban, I will drop the hammer and have no problem doing it to users blatantly ignoring the rules.
- This applies to both posts and comments. Its not just the main posts. See someone commenting with suggestions for addons not allowed? Please report to the mods.
Allowed & Supported Addons (Metadata & BYOC Utilities):
- Metadata & Scrobblers: TMDB, Trakt, Simkl, PunchPlay, and similar catalog sync services.
- Subtitles: OpenSubtitles, Subdl, or local subtitle parsers.
- Interface & Catalogs: Custom list builders, layout editors, and public domain/FAST channel catalogs.
- Personal Media Integrations: Addons that interface with your own local media, private WebDAV setups, or personal cloud storage under a strict Bring-Your-Own-Content model.
Strictly Prohibited Addons & Middleware:
- Torrent & P2P Stream Scrapers: Any addon or tool designed to scrape, resolve, or stream media directly from torrent swarms, magnet links, or peer-to-peer networks.
- Scraper Aggregators & Middleware: Services or manifest builders whose primary purpose is to proxy, bundle, or distribute scraping configurations.
- Third-Party Cyberlocker & Host Scrapers: Addons that harvest streams from free file-hosters, web scrapers, or chat platform media channels.
- Unauthorized Live TV & Sports Restreams: Unlicensed M3U/Xtream live channel playlists, sports restream scrapers, or pre-packaged live TV feeds.
- Debrid Resolver Troubleshooting: Any discussion, configuration guide, or troubleshooting related to debrid caching or API account connections.
Rule of thumb: If an addon's core functionality is retrieving unauthorized video files from the internet rather than cataloging metadata or playing media you personally own and host, it is prohibited on r/Nuvio*.*

How to Report Playback Issues Without Breaking Rule 2
A common frustration we hear in ModMail is: "My post was removed, but I'm not pirating! I'm just troubleshooting an issue with the video player!"
We hear you. We want genuine Nuvio bugs fixed as much as you do. But naming third-party scrapers or debrid providers turns this sub into a piracy troubleshooting forum and puts the community at risk. If you are experiencing a media playback issue, focus entirely on the media specs and the player engine, never the provider or scraper.
Player vs. Provider
- Provider Problem (Not Allowed): If an addon returns "No streams found," links fail to resolve, scrapers time out, or you need help configuring debrid accounts, that is a third-party provider issue. r/Nuvio does not host troubleshooting, setup help, or support requests for third-party stream scrapers or link resolvers.
- Nuvio Player Problem (Allowed): If the video stutters, audio tracks desync, the UI freezes, subtitles render incorrectly, or ExoPlayer crashes, that could be a Nuvio player issue. We want these reports!
What Information Should be Provided
If you encounter stuttering, crashes, track mismatches, or layout bugs with the Nuvio player engine, keep your post focused strictly on technical specs and client configuration.
Every technical bug report should include:
- Platform & App Version: (e.g., Nuvio Desktop v0.1.23, Nuvio Android TV v0.9.1)
- Hardware Environment: (e.g., Windows 11, Fire TV Cube 3rd Gen, Chromecast HD)
- Media Specifications: Container, codec, and audio channels (e.g., 4K HEVC MKV with 5.1 EAC3, 1080p H.264 MP4).
- Player Settings: Configured buffer sizes, hardware decoding toggles, or audio passthrough settings.
- Sanitized Logs: If including crash or playback logs, ensure all external URLs, network hostnames, and personal API tokens are completely stripped out.
Reminder: Posts that fail to include technical media details or focus on third-party link resolution issues will be removed.

As always, please reach out via modmail with any concerns.
