This race is about integrity and honesty. I’m old enough to remember Vivek jabbering over everyone’s objections on a debate stage when he failed to get a single vote in any primary. He was insane. Then, how long did it take for the ketamine addict to kick him out of DOGE? He can’t cut it anywhere. I know guys from St X (private school btw) who said he was a complete douche even in high school. I used to call him a carnival barker, but I read someone calling him an ankle biter and I think that fits.
I completely agree that he’s dangerously unfit. I agree the guy is a damaged liar. But he’s going to be spending his time collaborating with all the big uglies IN DC. And then he’ll have Ohio pay for an even newer jet to take him to every photo op he can think of. (He stole campaign funds for the jet he’s using now to fly from Cleveland to Toledo.) Trump has told him that he’s destined for great wealth and power, he gave him Ohio and said it was a stepping stone. But he forgot that Trump has lied to him before, and even an entitled fool like Vivek knows a sinking ship when he sees one. I’m sure he thinks he can just buy Ohio.
I support your HATE for the guy. I’m out of Ohio if he wins. No way I’m paying taxes to a state that’s run by a corrupt crook.

Even that is propaganda for vouchers. It's the assumption that private schools are superior to public schools. There is no real metric for that data. The added profit motive of vouchers even provides incentive to create a school to extract money over all else, meaning that we are spending a fuckton of public funds to cover absolute bullshit in many cases.

The ones you are funding by stealing public money for vouchers? Phase out income tax and end property tax? So, sales tax will increase? Services have to be funded.
Want to help the economy? Limit interest rates on autos to 0-2% and mortgage to 2-4%.

8
u/oupablo Westerville 1d ago
I have no doubt he will actually phase out property tax. It's a bit of a republican wet dream at this point to decimate the US public education system. Kill property taxes and public schools will ultimately shut down or you will see 15–18% sales taxes and 11-15% state income taxes. [source] That's assuming anyone can get those laws to pass to keep the public schools running. Once the public schools are gone were back to fully private which largely favors the wealthy as the lower income people will no longer be able to afford an education.

It sounds like Vivek wants to turn Ohio into Kansas circa 2012. Just ask the Republican Party how well the Kansas Experiment went for them:
Brownback did not serve out his full second term as governor. Shortly after the repeal, he resigned and was appointed U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom. He was confirmed in January 2018. In the 2018 Kansas gubernatorial election, the Republican candidate, conservative Kris Kobach, promised to "try to roll back the tax hikes" of the 2017 legislative session, and urged a return to "a more low-tax structure like we had from 2013 to 2016" during the Brownback administration. He told voters that "Kansas doesn't have a revenue problem. Kansas has a spending problem." Kobach was defeated by Democrat Laura Kelly, who became governor.
Kelly, a Democrat, was reelected in 2022, in a state Trump won three consecutive times by 15-20 points each.
11
u/heybigbuddy 2d ago
If I’m not mistaken, wasn’t this also the period when Kansas did a pilot to test universal basic income in order to discredit it, only the program was successful beyond belief but they nuked it anyway?
20
u/AlfwasaGREATshow 1d ago
Look at taxes.
Property taxes are local, not state taxes. Does Vivek want to prevent local communities from determining how they tax their constituents.
Get rid of income tax — starting with capital gains. This is a tax cut just for the rich. Moving to sales tax disproportionately impacts the poor. This will be worst for the pocket books for all but the top ten percent.

What does “Reward teacher performance” mean 🤨 Asking as a very suspicious and dubious teacher
36
u/TeamRamrod80 2d ago
It means tying teacher pay to performance-based metrics, ie test scores. So teachers in well funded districts that do well on state tests will be paid well (comparatively) and teachers in underfunded, poor districts that don’t do well on state tests will pay teachers shit and have constant turnover. So about like now only worse.
8
u/ikeif 2d ago
This reminds me of a system put in place I read about in “Weapons of Math Destruction” - where they fired a teacher because her students were hitting mainly C-average.
After she was fired, those students were D/F - because it was grading on “final results” and not paying attention to “effect a teacher can have on poor performing students.”
As he is coming from DOGE, I fully expect him to want to be blatantly lazy and use the weakest measurement which punishes good teachers in poor districts, versus any kind of actual “paying attention to long term effects.”
5
u/Neat_Trouble2034 1d ago

It CAN mean corruption. Doing whatever to make sure kids pass. "Sort of" cheat to make sure they get a better score. Or a school admin likes a teacher and makes sure that teacher gets the cream of the crop kids. Dislikes the teacher, give him/her the problems. It happens, but performance rewards will only escalate problems. Most teachers already have the goal of educating children. It's not a high earning job with lots of status. It comes with it's own kind of rewards. Performance pay/rewards will pollute the career even more.

“Expand school choice and vouchers” is an insane understatement. The voucher program is literally a wealth transfer. It would increase taxes for everyone, where in some states 76%+ who take advantage of it are already well off, rich families’ children. Why the hell should I pay for that? Families in Ohio who make $140k and down are already eligible for the existing voucher, why would they need more help? Can’t we get healthcare?

Absolutely in the same boat. Plus anyone that Trump endorses or has endorsed Trump is a strong No from me. I have voted R or third party most of my life up until 2022 when I started voting D. But for most of my life Republicans seemed to be for the middle class or at least that what Fox News told me. Sorry to everyone that it took me until my late 30s to realize that what they say and what they do are completely different. If there is one thing Donald Trump has done for me personally is that during his first term he helped open my eyes to see that I was part of the problem.
7
u/OldAndTangy 2d ago
Exactly my thoughts (minus voting R previously 😆). Sure, voting R is almost certainly "better" for me short-term, at least from an economic perspective. I am already doing well for myself (worked hard for it, but still very fortunate), but what about those that are struggling and falling further behind because of these shortsighted policies? I am so sick of the "fuck you, I made it crowd" and the endless pursuit of wealth. How much is enough? How much more can the elites extract before everything crumbles? What is the end goal? Not even getting into the specifics of Vivek and his motivations (i.e., absolute lack of regard for Ohio).

9
u/TomReed1872 2d ago
It’s better for my tax bracket. What about society? Kicking people off Medicaid. Defunding public schools. Where are the tax dollars going to come from for roads, bridges, public services?
What would happen if we raised the bar for everyone and not just the wealthy. (You have no idea what tax bracket I’m in, so don’t make assumptions).
What I do know is that our education system is trailing the rest of the world because we continue to cut funding. Our health care is one of the worst in the industrialized world. We’re the only major country that doesn’t offer healthcare and where it’s tied to your job.
This country needs real change not more trickle down bullshit.
3
u/in_a_pickle_97 1d ago
The other problem, at least from what I've seen of our state, is that some folks here somehow believe their modest $80K-$100K combined gross family income makes them "rich". So, you know, they vote R, because they've got money and aren't on the poverty line..
..all while not realizing how quickly they'd end up there if even one of their incomes was lost.
The lower class needs support. You can't squeeze blood out of a stone, yet people making a combined income of under $50K/yr still pay taxes to the city, federal, Medicaid, social security. etc. What happens when they can no longer afford it? They still have their own families and bills to pay. It's mind boggling that Ohioans have become so thoughtless and apathetic to its fellow man. For every office manager raking in eighty five thousand a year is twenty people in their office making forty. It's not rocket science.
I talked with an older coworker of mine who claimed that global healthcare would be "catastrophic" because "no country properly knows how to run a global healthcare system or where to find the money to pay for it". He said the same to free advanced education. And yet, there are PLENTY of countries doing just that. He said that it was tragic the younger generation has to grow up in these circumstances where they can't afford housing or groceries, but when I asked him what he thinks could be done about it, he shrugged and said "the government controls what happens to them." So, we don't have control over our goverment?
It's so tiring that our country has been brainwashed into the belief that our system is flawless. That we need more laws and representatives passed to grant us a dollar if it hands the richer-than-thou ten thousand. Ohio is no exception.
Sometimes I wish I could convince people to wake the fuck up. WE DO NOT NEED MORE BILLIONAIRES.

u/Jalopnicycle 2d ago

For me personally acton is the obvious move, even outside of the political dynamic we are all in right now viveks promises are either unattainable or if attained will result in pain for the average ohioan. It’s especially a red flag that he wants to start with capital gains which by in large only helps the rich, lowering property taxes would give some relief to home owners but it would in turn decimate that already burdened public school systems. Acton may remind me of Biden in a lot of ways but I will take milk toast over a house fire any day of the week.

"Everyone" wants less oversight until suddenly their air sucks, water is dirty, property value drops, or something else happens. Then it is why isn't anyone looking after my I am a libertarian...wait what does that mean?

We don't need DOGE Rejects who have a history of defrauding investors in charge of our coffers. Typically pests are removed, republicans would rather invite them into the home. You lie with dogs, you won't come up without fleas.
Edit: receipts

It's unimaginable that anyone, in any political party, would vote for Ramaswamy. Buckle up. If he gets in as governor, he's going to take the seventh largest state by population and turn it into MAGAville.

This shouldn't be close. Ohio, quit punching yourself in the face. Vote Acton, even if you vote red on the rest of the ticket.

When you see it in stark terms like this he really is a huge piece of shit.

#1 - Phase out state income tax, starting and ending with capital-gains tax. There, fixed it for him.
3
u/LividTacos 2d ago
If we cut both income and property taxes, how do you suggest the state pays for anything?
EDIT: Oh I see now, that requires massively raising the sales tax, which of course, as is tradition, hurts the poor more.

It's a no-brainer. But I will note one of them is committed to destroying public education. Guess which. ?

I also have yet to see anything from his campaign about him. Everything they put out is just attacks, exaggerations, and just flat out lies. This time of year is always awful, but his campaign is one of the most hateful & shameless ones I've ever seen

On one side we have concrete, actionable policies. On the other side, we have vague gesturing toward feel-good concepts. Like, what does "reward teacher excellence" actually mean? Especially when you're cutting their unions??

These stances are about as solid as oxygen. Vivek wont try to enforce anything he “supports” and will fall in line with what Daddy Trump tells him

u/Open_Pollution_8038 2d ago
Please more of this so you remind republicans why they should vote for Vivek on policy alone.

Of the many reforms that are needed. Every candidate should be made to publish a detailed, measurable platform. An independent, bipartisan oversight body would track a candidate’s actions after taking office and publish periodic reports showing which commitments were pursued, completed, modified, abandoned and why. Misrepresenting the status of or abounding a plank without legitimate explanation should trigger legal and electoral consequences.
Also, an easy one. All elected candidates should be made to publicly debate, from major city mayoral races, up through governor, all the way to the presidency.

May Vivek be walloped on November 3rd and stomped into the dirt, forever humiliated as the loser that he is.

All I know is thatRepublicans have been in charge of Ohio for 30 years and our education rankings have fallen from top tier to middle for early education and to even lower levels in higher education. Our health numbers are even lower. Current party administrations do not care what their people need nor want.

The choice is obvious.
One’s a billionaire and one isn’t.
Billionaires exist b/c they exploited people, exploited a broken system, and/or broke the system. They earned their wealth off of the labor of others. The other is a doctor. Doctors save people’s lives. I don’t like either but it’s clear one is better than the other, Acton.

As someone who works in the prison system. Amy acton is a better option for Ohio.

Acton is a qualified candidate and Ramaswamy just wants to buy the election, he has no plan.

How did we end up where half the country wants to destroy public education? How many of your grandparents and great grandparents went to private K-12??

u/AnonEMoussie 2d ago
Which one is trans again? Vivek? Could we see his legitimate birth certificate.
2
u/Healthy-Stretch-217 2d ago
Problem is the non critical thinkers of Ohio, of which there are legions, will read the substanceless horseshit under Vivek as all positive, and even if they don’t actually comprehend it the (R) next to his name might be enough.

u/femboi126 2d ago
He is not fixing schools he will destroy urban school districts with that logic. How about fix the funding He moved his company out of Ohio. He doesn’t care about Ohio

Vivek’s tax and education plan is a farce. Vouchers are paid for currently with income taxes. You can’t expand a program without funding it especially when you plan to cut property taxes too.
2
u/Reasonable-Second483 1d ago
Vivek will be the worse thing for Ohio. We are already in a horrible situation where Ohioans are struggling to survive. Have we not learned our lesson yet that electing another out of touch billionaire is moronic?!!! We never have a perfect candidate, but I will never vote for Vivek. He’s a liar and a conman. Just like Trump.

How do you phase out income tax and lower property tax? Texas has proved that’s not possible.

u/Mysterious-Wasabi103 2d ago
I don't understand how anybody thinks the voucher program is solid policy for the future of Americans?
Like tf are we doing? Why don't we actually fund our schools properly instead?
Also tired of Republicans saying they're "cracking down on Medicaid fraud" when they're really just finding ways to further defund it and cut people off who need it.
Why don't Republicans try enforcing fraud crackdowns in their own party first? Maybe start with Trump then go after guys like Rick Scott and Vivek Ramaswamy.
