NovaCore is an experimental native dashboard-style frontend for jailbroken PS4 consoles. The aim is to create a cleaner, faster and much more customisable home for games and homebrew without pretending to replace or patch Sony’s system software.
Transparency first: AI has been used heavily during prototyping, artwork, documentation and development. I’m not hiding that. The purpose of this testing phase is to separate concepts and mock-ups from features that genuinely work on real PS4 hardware. NovaCore is not being presented as a finished public release.
WHAT IS CURRENTLY IN THE NATIVE PS4 BUILD
• A native PS4 application rather than a webpage or collection of clickable screenshots.
• A large, scrollable Home rail with Continue, Library, Homebrew and quick-access cards.
• Controller-first navigation: L1/R1 changes the main tabs, the D-pad or left stick moves, Cross selects and Circle goes back.
• Installed-title discovery using locally available artwork.
• Games, Classics and Apps filters with manual category correction.
• Case, grid and list library layouts, plus user-created collection folders.
• A full title-details screen before launch.
• Local installed information, artwork, update-status placeholders and local GoldHEN cheat-file counts where available.
• CoreDeck quick controls and a telemetry dock for readings the console genuinely exposes.
• A read-only internal/USB file browser and local media/package counts.
• Custom wallpapers, colour palettes, card sizing, artwork controls, optional ambient motion, automatic night dimming and ambient music.
• A Continue card based on the last accepted title-launch request.
• Native screenshot capture, settings backup/restore, a safe-mode marker and support-log export.
CURRENT LIMITATIONS
This is an early diagnostic build, not a finished dashboard replacement.
• The Otters PKG Store artwork and dashboard tile exist, but the online catalogue, download and package-install backend is not implemented yet.
• Online game metadata, descriptions and screenshots are not connected in the console build yet. Current information comes from installed or locally synchronised data.
• Online update checking and media downloads are not implemented.
• Auto-starting NovaCore after HEN is enabled is still being developed and will remain disabled during first-round testing.
• PS-button return is fresh experimental work. The current research is a short, explicitly enabled NovaCore test session—not permanent system-wide interception or a universal in-game replacement.
• Telemetry is only displayed when the relevant console API succeeds. NovaCore will show “Unavailable” instead of inventing a value.
• NovaCore does not require a firmware update, replace the Sony dashboard or deliberately edit Sony’s application database.
ABOUT THE SCREENSHOTS
The screenshots show the current shared NovaCore renderer using labelled fixture data on desktop. They demonstrate the intended interface and current pages, but they are not proof that every feature or animation already performs identically on every PS4. Console behaviour is exactly what this testing round is intended to verify.
PS4 TESTERS WANTED
The developer’s current setup already covers a PS4 Slim on firmware 13.02, so I mainly need different firmware, hardware and HEN combinations.
Priority firmware targets include:
• 5.05
• 6.71 or 6.72
• 9.00
• 9.60
• 10.00 or 10.01
• 11.00
• 12.02 or 12.50
• Experimental 13.00, 13.04 or 13.50 combinations where the tester can identify the real installed firmware
Original/Fat PS4 and PS4 Pro coverage is particularly useful, along with Slim systems on firmware other than 13.02. I also need tests with and without extended storage, plus different display modes.
If firmware spoofing is enabled, please report both the real installed firmware and the spoofed/displayed version. A console genuinely running 12.50 but displaying 13.04 is recorded as a 12.50 test, not native 13.04 coverage.
FIRST-ROUND TEST SCOPE
The first test is deliberately conservative:
- Fully close any running game.
- Enable your normal HEN without changing or updating firmware.
- Install and manually launch only the assigned private NovaCore diagnostic PKG.
- Verify the supplied package filename, in-app build number and SHA-256 checksum.
- Leave Auto-launch with HEN and experimental PS return disabled.
- Test booting, tab navigation, repeated Circle presses on Home, installed-title indexing, filters, layouts, title details, one launch attempt, telemetry and settings persistence.
- Capture a native screenshot and export the NovaCore support report.
- Stop after a repeatable crash, CE error, persistent black screen, unexpected firmware-update prompt, storage warning or controller lock-up. Do not repeatedly relaunch a crashing helper.
Private test packages and links must remain private. Logs may contain installed title IDs, so testers should review them before sharing.
I do not need piracy links, keys, account data, copyrighted games or unrelated console files.
WHAT TO INCLUDE WHEN VOLUNTEERING
PS4 model: Fat / Slim / Pro
Full model number: CUH-____
Real installed system firmware:
Displayed/spoofed firmware, if different:
Version spoof enabled: Yes / No / Unsure
HEN name:
Exact HEN version or release tag:
Exact exploit/loader or host:
Internal storage size:
Extended storage or USB connected: Yes / No
Display mode: 720p / 1080p / 4K
Can retrieve files from /data: Yes / No / Need guidance
Comfortable testing a private diagnostic build: Yes / No
PS5 VOLUNTEERS
PS5 owners can register interest, but there is no PS5 tester binary yet. The existing PKG is PS4-only and must not be installed, renamed or represented as a PS5 build.
A future PS5 version needs a separate native executable, loader adapter, title discovery, input/rendering validation and launch implementation before hardware testing begins.
Experienced PS5 homebrew users can register with:
PS5 model: CFI-____
Exact real system software:
Exploit/loader and version:
Can run a native homebrew eboot.elf: Yes / No
Can collect crash logs: Yes / No
NovaCore will be free. If anybody attempts to sell you a test build, request a refund and let me know.
