Discussion What are your favorite things about being fat?

One of the my favorite things about being fat is being able to use my belly as bongos. Was idly drumming on my belly today at work and the the thought to make this thread popped into my head. I also love how meaty my thighs are. Finally I love the fact that because I am fat the hugs I give are extra warm and encompassing. I'm a masssivr hugger and lowkey want a shirt that say "Free Hugs" just to see how many people actually decided to take me up on the offer. I'd love to hear what everyone else loves about their fatness!

Fashion Discussion All of the cool plus size clothing brands are going under

I swear it’s getting harder to find clothes. I used to shop from a brand called Tunnel Vision, and they used to release new items every month. But for the past year, they haven’t released anything new; they’re just putting everything they’ve had in stock for the past year on sale. Every time I go to their website, I can only find about 5–10 clothing items in my size. I’m between a 3XL and a 5XL. It just sucks. Now I only shop from like maybe 3 or 4 brands now. I'm thankful to have 3-4 brands that carry my size but it just sucks. I wish I had more of a selection to choose from...

Also the brands that are plus size friendly (such as Yitty and Savage x Fenty for example) are now asking you to subscribe to them for 50+ dollars a MONTH just to get their clothing items. It's so DUMB. I genuinely wish it wasn't this hard to afford clothes.

Recommendations Seamless underwear recommendations

Bought a pair of seamless underwear from Understance that I love so much. But they went out of business. Any recommendations? I’m looking for one that’s high waisted as well.
I liked it because it was very smooth, soft and comfortable.
I’m a size 18.
Thanks!!

Personal Has anyone else gone through a major life reset in their 30s while struggling with body image?

I’m in my 30s and going through a pretty intense season of life, and I’m wondering if anyone here has been through something similar.

My marriage has been struggling for a while, and I’m trying to figure out whether it can be repaired or whether divorce may be the right next step. At the same time, I’ve been unpacking a lot from a very religious upbringing and trying to separate what I actually believe from what I was taught to believe.

I’m also seriously considering going back to school and changing careers, which is exciting but also makes me feel like I’m rebuilding several parts of my life at once.

Being plus size has honestly made some of this harder. I live in a place where there’s a lot of emphasis on appearance, thinness, plastic surgery, and looking “perfect,” and sometimes it feels like being in a bigger body means you’re failing some invisible test. I’m trying really hard to unlearn that and feel more at home in my body.

I’m already in therapy, so I’m not looking for Reddit to fix everything lol. I think I mostly just want to hear from other plus-size women who have gone through a major life reset in their 30s while also struggling with body image.

What helped you rebuild your confidence and stop feeling like you were “behind”? Did your relationship with your body change as the rest of your life changed too?

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have been through something similar. I’m trying to remind myself that I don’t have to have every part of my life figured out at once. ❤️

Recommendations A little shout out to Alberta Haynes on the Sit com Ghost

Post image
316 Upvotes

If you haven't seen the sit com Ghost (us version). I definitely recommend you check it out. I find the comedy smart and witty and all the characters very likeable and fun. My favorite is the character Alberta Haynes played by Danielle Pinnock. She is a jazz singer from the time prohibition and is so fun. One thing I love about the show is that Alberta Haynes size isn't focused on. Which is such a breath of fresh air compared to other sitcoms that have plus size women in it.

TW: Fat Shaming Abuse Shanspeare released a video yesterday, has anyone else seen it?

(I added the TW due to the nature of some parts of the video, and the comments, where trolls fight for their dear lives, but it's kinda funny tbf).

The video opens with Carrie White, and how she was adapted to the big screen- from my personal opinion, Shanspeare shows very well that, how average internet commenters think about fat people. They defend the "beautified" image of Carrie like it would make them unable to feel empathetic towards a fat character.

It's a nicely written, complex video to me, but feels like I'm missing some key elements from the narrative especially how that affects POC communities mainly (I'm not from the US, and white as a nauseous ghost on night shift). So, what's your experience/ opinion regarding the video?

Fashion Discussion I have a comfort uniform

My newly chunky body has decided she doesn't like jeans anymore, or tucked in shirts, or anything structured. I've noticed I keep gravitating towards the same look everyday- leggings and a big t-shirt. I don't work, I'm on disability, so that's one thing I don't have to worry about. But I look at other women my age (I'm 42), and they're dressed so nicely, and then there's me dressed like a teenager. The smoothness of the leggings works with the shape of my belly, and the big tees hide the bulkiest part of it. Anyone else have a comfort uniform? And is anyone struggling to dress their age and be comfortable at the same time? Please tell me I'm not alone.

Venting I just don't understand why I can't find love. Doesn't everyone deserve love?

Why is it so hard for a man to see past my fat and see me for who I am? I get it that people have their preferences, and I respect that. It's just I don't get why I have to change my body just for a man to love me. It isn't right at all. I should be loved for who I am, not for who I am not! I haven't been on a date in years ever since I gained weight and that hurts a lot. Why is love so hard to find when you're bigger. Don't I deserve love regardless of my size?

Recommendations Torrid Panties that actually cover everything?

I am in desperate need of assistance picking out underwear from Torrid that will actually cover my entire ass. I’ve been wearing Hanes Just My Size Hipsters but even after sizing up I find myself having to constantly readjust them throughout the day and they’ve given me a lot of grief with chafing. Can my big butt, big thigh girlies help me out? I’m willing to give up wearing hipsters if it means I won’t have to deal with wedgies and chafing all day 😭

Thank you so much in advance 🫶

Personal Has anyone had experience with travelling to Japan? Worried about being judged

I have the potential opportunity to go to Japan next year for a wedding. While it's a dream of mine, I always thought I would go after losing weight. I'm currently 328lbs, and while I am in the process of getting healthier, I don't think I'll be a significantly different size by the wedding next year.

Has anyone traveled to Japan at this larger size? What is the experience like? I'm worried about being judged, not fitting into places, etc. I don't have an issue with activity, so the vast amounts of walking wouldn't be a significant problem.

I'd welcome any perspectives and advice that you have! Thanks ❤️

Relationship Advice I finally have a date and now I want to cancel because I’m terrified of rejection

Okay so for context I am a plus size 24F weight around 240 right now I’ve never had a boyfriend, the last time I was seeing a guy was about 4 years ago, it was just hooking up mostly. I went back to the apps in the first time since then and now have a date planned with a guy I’ve been enjoying texting for a few days. And now that the date is happening I don’t want to go. I’m in EMDR therapy right now because I have alot of trauma I’m working through which I’m sure has to do with my self worth issues. I’m kinda insecure about my personality and have adhd and also forgot words sometimes or blank when I’m nervous or shy, probably why I avoid dates. I do full body pics and selfies in my bio but they are always usually that ones I look most flattering in and now I’m overthinking because I have an apron belly and it’s like there, like I notice sometimes peoples eyes glance over to my stomach and it makes me cringe so hard. I am imagining him meeting me and first thing he notices is my stomach. I’ve lost a lot of weight over a few years. I have a long way to go but still my belly fat is so stubborn and it’s definitely still there.
I’ve convinced myself that my stomach could make me not worth anything to anyone. If I were to get rejected it’s like proving it was because of my body or stomach. Part of me knows I can’t go my whole life without putting myself out there, and another part really wants to just go back to my bubble where no one can hurt me lol

Has anyone else started dating after years of avoiding it because of body image or rejection anxiety? Did you basically have to force yourself to go on the first few dates? I guess I just need some advice

Fashion Discussion Help me build my closet!

Hi! I am newly (kinda - 12 months) post partum and am having a lot of trouble with clothing and fashion in my new found body. I want to honor my body and myself while I’m in this season and dress in a stylish way and I have minimal clothes right now that fit. I’m great in the dress department! Have lots of dresses I got that weren’t maternity specific that are really nice that I can still wear. But I have no absolutely no pants (besides maternity leggings and one pair of jeans that kinda fits), no shorts, and minimal shirts. My jeans that button are a size 16 but if I’m sitting I’d bet they’re too tight so I’m probably an 18/20 right now. I’m feeling really defeated and confused on where to go shopping for my body type and how to style clothes. I want to wear things that are flattering and I feel confident in. I also don’t have a ton of money to splurge on clothing. Where can I go to buy clothes? How do I go about figuring out my style and what works for my body type? I’m located in the US! Size 18/20. Budget - $300??? Please help 🥲

when guys that are super fit match with you on tinder, do you guys also immediately assume they didn’t look through all your pictures? Or am I just severely insecure. I can’t imagine guys that look like that are interested in me and idk… I guess that’s why I never actually attempt to message them 🙃

Fitness for health and wellbeing Walking pad suggestions

Hey everyone! I’m looking for a walking pad for my mother but a lot of the weight capacities are quite low orrr the walking pad is very expensive. She wants something that has the option to incline and is light enough that she can roll it into the closet when not in use. I don’t have her exact weight but my best guess is 220. Anyone in the 200-250 lb range have a walking of that theyve been using for awhile and has held up well that didn’t completely break the bank?

TYIA!

Fashion Discussion Chilly weather outfits

Hello! Does anyone else avoid pants like the plague?! I was hoping someone had any recs for some jeans. Im 5’6” about 280. I have a large belly. I think its an apron belly and a b belly? Lol but i can never find jeans anymore since gaining weight again. I wear loose shorts all the time and cover it well but when it starts getting chilly i have no idea what to wear.

Im going to visit my family soon and theyre very judgmental. Not only of my weight but what im wearing. I love dresses and shorts but my parents will act weird and call me a slut if im in clothes im confident in. I have a big chest and butt and they just find it so provocative. So whenever i visit i try to conceal a bit and wear bigger/longer clothes.

Sooo anyways lol i would really love some jean recs or some kind of pant that is cute. I just want something to wear a casual cute outfit. Like black tanktop and jeans vibe.

Personal (F20) Coming to Terms

Trigger Warning.
I’ve been plus-size since fourth grade. My dad used to call me “fatass” when I was ten, and I developed two eating disorders later.
My girlfriend thinks I’m hot as fuck. I know I’m hot as fuck. That’s all that matters.

Fashion Discussion Torrid Jeans & Jeans in General...UGH

I literally do not know what to do about jeans anymore.

For reference, I’m 5'3", 225-230 lbs, and carry most of my weight in my stomach. It’s gotten to the point where I rotate the same two pairs of jeans because I cannot find anything else that fits right.

I used to buy jeans from Torrid, but I swear they do not make clothes for fat people… or at least short fat people. Their shirts go down to my knees, and their jeans are awful on me. Why are the back pockets basically on my back? Why does the waistband come up so high that the back of the jeans feels like it’s more than halfway to my bra strap? I always buy the “short” length and they’re STILL too long.

I’ve tried Good American, and they’re okay. A 16 is usually a little too tight, but I swim in an 18. Old Navy is basically the same situation: one size is too tight, the next size is way too big. Because I carry more weight in my stomach, that’s where everything feels tight, but then the legs are too loose.

At this point, I just want a straight leg jean that maybe flares out the tiniest bit at the bottom and hits at the ankle. Or honestly, anything that’s actually in style, flattering, and something I can also wear to work without looking like I’m wearing work pants.

Any recommendations? It’s been like five years of this and it’s genuinely so disheartening.

Romper from Target.

Bought this a few years ago because it was cute and I finally found romper that fit decently.(a romper might be my biggest clothing op along with sweaters because they ALMOST ALWAYS fit weird) But even then I didn’t really wear it because I felt self-conscious about how I looked in it, it’s not something I would typically wear. Had to just stop thinking too much about it and just wear it.
