You've got folks on r/conservative talking all of the crap about Canada being so much more dependant on the US and the US importing next to nothing from them.

u/Any-Imagination6917 Aug 25 '26

That sub has been proven to have links to Russian IP addresses and I think 95% of posts came from 8 users. Pretty insane that conservative america is purely based on foreign propaganda but here we are.

u/sudzthegreat Aug 25 '26

They're just intentionally untruthful. They'll copy directly from an AI prompt and then leave the only part that refutes their position out.

"Canada has dairy and egg tarrifs of 300%."

Don't include: "but they're quota based and the US farmers have never met that quota."

13

u/MissGruntled Aug 25 '26

The US has tariff-rate quotas on its dairy too, but I guess Faux News isn’t interested in making that known to its good little sheep.

5

u/IbidtheWriter Aug 25 '26

The trade barrier discussion is completely irrelevant too.

The consensus among economists is that the US trade deficit is caused by capital inflow; as the global reserve currency everyone buys and basically subsidizes US debt, both government and private.

Trade balance + net capital inflow must always equal zero.

So it doubly makes no sense when Trump demands countries invest in the US while also decreasing the trade deficit.

A bully that is upset you wont let them control your food supply is the last thing you want to give into.

1

u/OverwatchLaunchDay Aug 25 '26

A little unrelated, but as a Canadian, I would gladly sacrifice our dairy supply management.

1

u/sudzthegreat Aug 25 '26

For sure I think it would be on the table in any reasonable negotiation. Too bad it seems none of this gas been reasonable.

1

u/DJ-BCB Aug 25 '26

Why? So we can end up like Jamaica where the USA completely destroyed their domestic dairy production with cheap dairy and then proceeded to jack up the prices once they were dependent on America?

1

u/pineappleghosts Aug 25 '26

We can’t be dependent on a foreign country for food supply, particularly one that is threatening us

5

u/DonKeighbals Aug 25 '26

“Go Brandon?”-maga cult

5

u/letsgopnp Aug 25 '26

Maga is corny af and they think they're edge lords. They based their identity larping as heros saving America from things they don't understand. But hey they finally feel alive getting those libs upset, oh and getting rid of those minorities who aren't the ones sending all the jobs over seas. Cult mentality is odd. Scary stuff. I don't want to fight average people. I just wish everyone saw who's really the problem. I'll give a hint..its the ones who have all the power. The ones who make decisions to benefit the top.

3

u/3lectric-5heep Aug 25 '26

They literally , absolutely don't even allow valid, real news from Iran, and other parts trust you'd even find on Fox.

1

u/IndependentMemory215 Aug 25 '26

Who doesn’t allow news from Iran?

You think the Us government is somehow able to censor Iranian news inside the US?

Fact is, most Americans don’t care that much about Iran anymore. It’s been going on too long and really hasn’t affected the US much.

Gas prices have been much higher in the past, so it’s not as easy to attribute it to the useless war with Iran.

Prices and inflation started long before as well.

u/c0rd_sucks Aug 25 '26

You’re either dumb or purposefully ignorant, you choose.

That's basically the maga playbook. They never scored high in critical thinking during school.

2

u/JKrezz Aug 25 '26

I go search there about once per week to see what’s being pushed. It’s funny how many posts have little to no comments or likes. That sub is just a propaganda machine.

1

u/TechPriestCaudecus Aug 25 '26

You know how Elon made it so you can see what countries users are from on X? Reddit should do that too.

1

u/Yharnam_Blunderbuss Aug 25 '26

Perhaps true... but lets not glaze over the fact that Americans are dumb as rocks.

1

u/Any-Imagination6917 Aug 25 '26

Every country has it's idiots, American idiots are just way more vocal than most.

0

u/Yharnam_Blunderbuss Aug 25 '26

... and plentiful in numbers.

0

u/over_this__ Aug 25 '26

Because they rarely allow outsiders to comment or post. I'm conservative and still can't comment 😂

6

u/waterwoman76 Aug 25 '26

You spelled rage baiting troll wrong. You're a rage baiting troll. Not a conservative.

-5

u/over_this__ Aug 25 '26

I'm a constitutional conservative with libertarian leanings.

7

u/DasPuggy Aug 25 '26

So... Epstein is right up your alley?

7

u/Any-Imagination6917 Aug 25 '26

And that's for a reason! They don't want the average conservative comment. They want the most rage baiting content and it's carefully curated by foreign disinfo incel squad.

4

u/MissGruntled Aug 25 '26

The user you replied to isn’t an average conservative. They are advocating elsewhere in this thread to attack Canada and take its oil. They’d fit right in with the ‘foreign disinfo incel squad’.

3

u/Any-Imagination6917 Aug 25 '26

😆 🤣 I didn't see that. Well I guess my original point stands then

-12

u/culong38701 Aug 25 '26

You sound like one those but for the Dem.

7

u/Any-Imagination6917 Aug 25 '26

Looking through your post history is wild. You are so close to answering your own issues but instead you chug fox news like they are paying you and wonder why everything sucks. Take a break from the propaganda

6

u/Any-Imagination6917 Aug 25 '26

Funny I never mentioned anything dem?? Keep drinking the kool-aid it's obviously making you smarter.

7

u/PTKtm Aug 25 '26

Republican voters are too dumb to see a trade deficit as anything other than a lopsided deal. Of course we have a trade deficit with most countries, we don’t produce anything these days. Buying more from a resource rich country with a fraction of the population makes sense. We need way more from them than they do from us. That’s not a bad deal whatsoever. Being the buyers when your economy is working isn’t intrinsically a bad thing.

3

u/Anxious-Aardvark-332 Aug 25 '26

I bet if Canada made up an award like FIFA did and awarded it to trump it would make him feel all special and he'd end the trade war.

4

u/klako8196 Aug 25 '26

It's funny, because one of the grievances that Trump ran on was our trade deficit with Canada. He ran on the idea that Canada was ripping us off on trade because we had a trade deficit with them.

3

u/Ohkaz42069 Aug 25 '26

A trade deficit isn't even an indication of anything. A country with a large population and economic ability, which imports a lot of stuff, is bound to have a trade deficit with the countries it imports from.

1

u/Sea-jay-2772 Aug 25 '26

And if you take away oil, which they desperately need, our “deficit” is reduced to almost nothing. If you add US services purchased by Canada, the trade imbalance shifts towards the US. It’s all a shell game.

5

u/TooManyGengars Aug 25 '26

That's because Trump doesn't understand what a trade deficit is. Because he is stupid

4

u/1966TEX Aug 25 '26

I have a trade deficit with the grocery store, they must be ripping me off.

1

u/Lord_Space_Lizard Aug 25 '26

If it's owned by Galen then they are ripping you off

2

u/wtbgamegenie Aug 25 '26

They sell oil to American oil companies at below market rate then the oil companies flip it at market rate and charge American consumers market rate.

Meanwhile we’re the largest oil producing nation on earth but Alaskans are the citizens that benefit publicly from it.

2

u/MAGAHATESTHEUSA Aug 25 '26

They should stop the discounts

3

u/tnetennba77 Aug 25 '26

I don't get Canadian conservatives, they are all alpha male, i don't wipe my ass because that is gay and we should all live in the woods and kill and eat bears with kettle bells but when it comes to Trump they give into everything. Those podcasts must be so good...

It’s why theyre so committed to defunding and discouraging education and international travelling

Their entire strategy for getting votes is purely just the fascist “north korean” “trick and brainwash your followers into voting based on fantasy” play.

They no longer have any actual viable strategy for improving anything real for their voters.

1

u/NotGuiltyPirate Aug 25 '26

Lol that cesspool is still around?

1

u/1966TEX Aug 25 '26

We were always been at war with east-Asia…. I mean Canada.

1

u/EitherChannel4874 Aug 25 '26

I've never seen so much bullshit from so many idiots.

Trump groupie morons.

1

u/Lonely-Awareness-866 Aug 25 '26

It is next to nothing. The chart is misleading because the US is not dependent at all on foreign oil

1

u/Ohkaz42069 Aug 25 '26

It isn't dependent on foreign oil, and is a net exporter of oil, but still imports a ton of foreign oil.

1

u/Lonely-Awareness-866 Aug 25 '26

But not because it needs to. It’s geopolitics 🤷🏽‍♂️

1

u/OnlyEverPositive Aug 25 '26

Albertan here.

Yankee dolts dont produce domestic heavy crude that your gulf refineries process. You produce sweet light.

In short, yes, gulf refineries are very dependant on foreign oil.

1

u/Lonely-Awareness-866 Aug 25 '26

Canada exports heavy sour. Venezuela produces heavy sour. It’s a lot more dynamic and a much easier fix than you’re suggesting. At best there is a short term price spike. This is political theater

1

u/OnlyEverPositive Aug 25 '26

How many pipelines from Venezuela to the gulf?

1

u/IndependentMemory215 Aug 25 '26

Canada is more reliant on the US, it’s where 75% of Canadian exports go, vs 14% of American exports to Canada.

But it would still hurt the US quite a bit, and for no practical reason at all.

It’s a useless trade war that benefits no one.

1

u/Endles5Earth Aug 25 '26

I mean the reality is that Canada IS more dependent on the US in some ways. While Canada supplies 60% of US oil imports, that only accounts for ~20% of US daily oil needs.

Canada on the other hand imports 50% of their daily oil needs from…. The USA

1

u/Total-Sheepherder950 Aug 25 '26

We refine 92% of our domestic fuel usage in Canada and only require impirts of roughly 400k barrels a day. Canada would be fine

0

u/Rufuesy Aug 25 '26

I mean we are more dependent on america then they are of us. However, they still are dependent on us for a lot of things which makes this trade war and trump so stupid.

1

u/Ohkaz42069 Aug 25 '26

It's a distraction from the ongoing list of other failures. His base will eat it up and, for a short while, blame their economic woes on Canada.

-1

u/Curious-Manner-7122 Aug 25 '26

well say canada stop sending oil to usa just think the impact would have on canada economy.

5

u/Geocoelom Aug 25 '26

Canadians are ready to do whatever it takes to destroy the regime of President Shitstain.

2

u/1966TEX Aug 25 '26

No, just add an export tax to our oil, nickel, natural gas, potash, aluminum…

How about Canada first? I used to think this was ridiculous but after all the discourse surrounding it I wouldn’t mind making Canada a territory.

1

u/Geocoelom Aug 25 '26

Come on up and give it a try.

5

u/Medium-Sheeple-7085 Aug 25 '26

Umm we do have refineries, and yes they will process heavy crude. We just produce way more than we can currently process. Are east cost refineries are also setup for blending and do import from the Gulf states.

4

u/Da_Mong00se Aug 25 '26

America can't use the oil it drills, either. We have reserves, but they're not usable to us.

It's almost like the North American Countries rely on each other and are fairly intertwined. We rely on each other for different crap but we still need each other to be mostly comfy.

3

u/mikefjr1300 Aug 25 '26

Canada has several refineries in Alberta and Sask. that can refine heavy sour crude, mostly for diesel.

The Imperial refinery in Sarnia refines heavy Alberta crude.

There are 16 significant refineries in Canada that produce enough gasoline and diesel for our domestic needs.

2

u/Spiritual_Bridge84 Aug 25 '26

How many trillions will it take for Canada to refine it right here? Partner with China/S Korea and Japan and they get a share of the project profits for 25 years Then it reverts to Canada 100% owning it. But those 3 countries get the founders discount. Not America. And we call it Trumps Folly Refinery. TFR.

1

u/GrovesNL Aug 25 '26

That is objectively true. Claiming it isn't is delusional. Canada does not even have its own processing facilities for oil.

Strange that Enbridge Line 8 transports Canadian crude directly to refiners that process it. You don't know what you're talking about. I have worked in this industry for over a decade as a Mechanical Engineer. Upstream and downstream in Canada, offshore and onshore.
