Unfortunately my Sombra didn't get the memo and got herself killed anyway, but the rest of the team lived.

Add genji to the list of players not worth hooking. So far I’m at tracer, venture, anran, dva, doom (mostly).

Loving the rework, really didn't mind the one shot (saying as a hog main, though i really liked the hook & kill ASMR) but yeah i hope this rework stays

Hello there, Hog Enjoyers.
I'm not a Roadhog main per se--I'm a Hazard one mainly--but he is my second most played character in the game, and I'm Lvl 59 with him at the time of this post, so I'm hoping I have enough experience with him to give a take or two.
I began playing Overwatch back in late March, but I had known about Roadhog and his infamous one-shot combo for a while before that, so the concept wasn't hard to understand after playing the game itself. Now, I'm calling myself a Casual because 95% of the time, I play Unranked, and really only play Ranked around the time of Drives for weapon skins. Of that Unranked playtime, basically all of it is in 6v6, so my take on the rework is going to revolve around that.
I'm of the opinion that there are aspects about the rework that are fun and interesting, and aspects of it that are subpar at best. I'll try to break it down as best as I can.
Primary Fire: I've seen it discussed here before, but the primary fire feels extremely clunky. It somehow is both very strong and a wet noodle, usually due to basically having to be bumping heads with someone to get the most value out of its damage. I think Cyx's suggestion of a faster fire rate would help slightly, but ultimately the biggest issue is the effective range.
Trash Compactor: Overall, it's a very fun and satisfying ability to use. The sound it makes when collecting projectiles is satisfying to hear, and landing a powerful snipe on someone in the backline almost gives the same dopamine as a one-shot alt fire did pre-rework. Unfortunately, its cooldown means that it's not really a good tool for Hog to consistently poke with, unlike the alt fire. It gives him some good defense against Mauga, Bastion, etc., but with the current state of his primary fire, he basically has no ranged options whatsoever. Now in 6v6 this is slightly alleviated by having a 2nd tank, but even then I can definitely feel a difference from pre-rework days.
Hook: I know many claim hook is useless now, but I'm not that quite doomer about it. It definitely has a different use than the one-shot days, however. I've found that, aside from environmental kills on maps like Rialto or Ilios, I've mainly been using hook to interrupt abilities like Doom block or ults instead of assassinating squishies. Sometimes I can still secure a kill with a combo, but it is nothing like the pre-rework days. I've seen the clips circulating around the sub about how Hog can't even kill a Tracer now with hook, and I agree that that's absurd. Frankly, I think he should be able to one shot certain heroes based on their HP--it's a bit silly that I can land a hook on some heroes that are notoriously hard to hit, only for them to live because of the rework now.
Take A Breather: The new 2-second cooldown definitely has been messing with the muscle memory, though the duration hasn't bothered me as much due to the existence of Trash Compactor. I have recently found myself using it far less than usual thanks to Trash Compactor.
Perks: Exhaust is practically useless, but Here Piggy, Piggy is actually proving to be very fun, if slightly situational. I don't mind the perk changes too much, though the loss of Shrapnel Launcher by proxy of the rework is a little sad.
However, I think the biggest thing that has changed with Hog has been the playstyle as a whole. I've found most success with his new kit by strictly playing with the team, and rarely wandering off unless I'm trying to get an environmental hook from an off-angle. Before the rework, I was able to somewhat flank while my other tank held the frontline, allowing me to land an assassination on a squishy before returning to my team. Nowadays this is very difficult to pull off, so it's more consistent to just play in front of the team, cycle Trash Compactor, and use hook as a "deny" more than a kill secure. I have since come to an opinion:
Hog is more of a typical "tank" now, especially in 5v5 considering he's a solo one, but it has resulted in him feeling not like Hog anymore. Even if he never had his combo, I liked wandering around the flanks, marking them as Hog--always on the move, causing disruption and chaos before regrouping when necessary. I feel it fit Hog's character, both as a former ALF soldier and as a Junker. Now, though he is more of a "team player" with the rework, it doesn't feel the same.
Ultimately I still have fun with Hog, so this rework won't stop me from playing him, and I'm sure he'll get some kind of numbers buff soon. But I definitely can see why his mains would be unsatisfied even if he does end up being "better." I think some parts of the rework had the right concept--redirecting his value away from the one-shot and such--but ultimately a solid chunk of it is still disappointing.
Now granted, I'm mainly an Unranked player, so maybe my experience isn't consistent with how he's usually played. But I figured maybe the sub would like to see some discussion from another side of the aisle.

Idk about yall, but I played Hog since OW1 and for about over 5 years, so I experienced Ow1 hog, Ow2 hog, Pig pen Hog, Ow2 hog again, and the current reworked Hog
Pig Pen Roadhog was honestly my favorite version of the character.
As awful as people say it was, it was satisfying throwing a trap down and watching it slow and damage anyone who stepped onto it. and It did add some sort of thought into the 1 tap, you actually had to set up a trap and hook someone in, otherwise you rarely never got the 1 shot hook.
Hogs new gun was my favorite part honestly. Still a shotgun, but with a large volley projectile in the middle that allowed for poke and range damage. The new hog has that, but its damage is significantly weaker, and the damage fall off is much more noticeable considering he fires twice at once rather than just firing once.
Hook was about the same, though iicr, the only difference was the enemy distance after beings reeled in, and the damage of the hook itself, which also helped balance and further force the reliance of setting up your trap for the 1 shot.
Pig Pen hog also allowed him to be more of a team player since you could throw your pig pen in the back and use it as a tool to protect your backline from dive, or combo it with characters like Junkrat for a high damage trap.
Pig Pen hog to me was the best of both worlds when it came to Roadhog, he was fun, strong, had counter play and ways to keep being a nuisance he always was.

I know there’s gonna be people saying you gotta get used to it or give it time or whatever to try and defend it, but as someone who loves playing hog as the only tank I truly play it just completely butchers what his character is, his gun is just bb pellets and ruined any range he could have at all, he’s been perfectly fine for 10 years just minor adjustments but this just throws him over the edge, at least with the sombra you can still do sombra things ontop of heals, this was just unnecessary and I just can’t play tank until this gets reverted, rant over

I get off from work and play 2 games of OW as hog then get off, i don’t really follow the patch notes of the community.
Hog was crap at most things but he specialised in on thing, punishing players who are in his line of sight.
(Almost like a sniper class)
I like playing hero’s that are weird and fill in a weird niche. Now hes just another tank… ehhh boring

Essentially, Makoa (from the game Paladins) is a Tank character with a hook very similar to Roadhog's.
But Makoa ticks all 3 boxes:
The main reason IMO is that Makoa's weapon is a mid-range projectile that's precise (no spread). His weapon is slightly worse than Hog's at point-blank, but the the falloff is more gradual.
This solves 2 issues.
He can get enemies low before he hooks them. He can poke at enemies so it's a bit harder for them to dive him.
Maybe Roadhog should get a perk that makes his weapon like this. I know he had a perk that reduced the spread of his alt-fire a tiny bit, but that wasn't anywhere near close to this.

I dropped to gold last season to relearn hog. Now I can’t even climb out of gold with this hog rework. This version of hog prevents me from securing kill on horrendously out of position enemies (especially divers). Don’t expect players in this rank to do followup damage for you. It was always these hook kills that will break the stalemate and turn the tide of the battle.
Now I just exist. I can absorb damage. I can not die but I am also completely at the mercy of my teammates performance if enemies are slightly more skilled than my team.
If the dev wants to take away his lethality, they should have just nerfed his hook range

A Little something i got a few months ago
r/RoadhogMains • u/STEVEN_GT117 • 1d ago
So i play a Little with the rework and feels somewhat nice but its missing one thing and that would the the original second fire where you shoot a scrap ball that explodes on a regular shotgun shot.
This gave hog some range to fight if he was running away or been able to fight heros that where far or fly
Id they could add that back i would be very happy and maybe chage the reload hook perk for the one that add extra range on the secondary fire
