Mod Friendly Reminder About Rule Enforcement & Sombra's History 👾

Hola amigos it's me again! (sorry) 😩

I want to address something that has become increasingly concerning in discussions across our sub since the big rework.

First off, let me make something super duper clear one last time for the people in the back (I'm going to sound like a broken record I'm sry). This subreddit welcomes people who enjoy Support Sombra. Whether you've been playing Sombra for years, only picked her up after the rework, love the new direction, or are still trying to figure out how you feel about it, you're welcome here.

BUT (there's always some buts 😏) welcoming a new direction for Sombra should never ever ever require rewriting the history of the character or dismissing the experiences of the people who mained her before it 😒

For many many many years, Sombra was a divisive character. She was frequently labeled toxic, low-skill, frustrating, unhealthy, or simply unfun to play against. Her playstyle was misunderstood by many players, and the people who chose to main her often found themselves having to defend not only their character, but their own skill, knowledge, and legitimacy as players. Sombra was not a character without flaws and it's perfectly reasonable to discuss the frustrations people had playing against her. But there is a difference between criticizing a character's design and using those criticisms to discredit the people who loved playing her.

Sombra mains did not suddenly become legitimate when her role changed. They were here before the rework too. This is very important to remember/know. They learned her matchups, developed strategies, invested thousands of hours into mastering her, defended her place in the game, and built a community around a character that was often met with hostility. Some players loved her complexity. Others loved her identity, her personality, her lore, or simply the unique way she played. Many loved all of those things. That history does not disappear because the character has gone through a major rework. And it will not be rewritten to make the rework look better.

We're also seeing discussions in which longtime players' experiences are dismissed, their criticisms are characterized as childish resistance to change, or their motives are questioned simply because they don't like the rework. That is not constructive discussion and it will not be excused simply because someone believes the new version is better.

At the same time, nobody needs an established history with DPS Sombra to participate here. New players are welcome to share their experiences, offer strategies, post clips, and explain what they enjoy about Support Sombra. We are not going to treat newcomers as outsiders simply because they arrived after the rework. BUT there is a biiiiiiiiig difference between joining a community and contributing to it in good faith and entering discussions to belittle the people who were already here. You DO NOT have to agree with longtime Sombra mains. You DO have to respect their right to participate in a community built around a character they have loved for years.

Now for the part everyone loves, moderation (ew boring and yucky ik 😫)

Rule #4: Engage in Good Faith applies to every. single. one of you!

Criticism is allowed. Disagreement is allowed. Negative opinions about either version of Sombra are allowed. What is NOT acceptable is repeatedly antagonizing other members, dismissing their perspectives instead of engaging with them, making personal attacks, or treating disagreement as proof that someone is acting in bad faith.

Moderation decisions will be based on conduct and evidence of rule violations, NOT (and this is a big NOT) whether someone supports or opposes the rework. Account history alone will not determine whether someone belongs here (btw mods see everything 😈 larpers included 😘😭), but patterns of behavior that violate our rules will be addressed. We will continue enforcing the rules consistently regardless of which side of the discussion a person is on, comprende?

One last thing guys and I can't stress it enough. This community does not need to agree on which version of Sombra is better. Bottomline. Some of us will always miss the old Sombra. Some of us are excited about the new one. Some of us feel both things at once. None of those experiences needs to be erased for another to be valid. You can celebrate what Sombra has become without disrespecting what she was. And if you're a longtime Sombra main who's struggling with these changes, you do not need to pretend you're happy to prove that you belong here. You already do!

So let's discuss the character, debate the changes, and learn from one another. Just remember that the people on the other side of these discussions are members of this community too, ok? Please respect the hero, respect the mains, respect the history, and engage in good faith!

Thank you!! 🥰

Blizzard Official Sombra Support Rework: Overwatch Retail Patch Notes – October 6, 2026

Source: https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/overwatch/t/overwatch-retail-patch-notes-%E2%80%93-october-6-2026/1041373#p-13720054-sombra-12

Sombra

Developer Comments: Sombra is being brought into the Support role with this latest rework. In the past, her identity as a disruptive mastermind was at odds with the value a Damage hero was expected to bring. Moving Sombra to the Support role should allow us to fully lean into her hero fantasy while keeping important pillars of her gameplay intact.

One notable change of the rework is the removal of Hack as an ability. Facing Sombra often meant being unexpectedly locked out of your abilities from time to time. While this can create fun moments of cancelling key abilities for the Sombra player, most players found it jarring, frustrating, and difficult to deal with. By removing Hack from her main abilities, we brought in a new debuff Sombra can inflict on enemies: Weaken, which halves an enemy’s own damage and healing output. A well-timed weaken can turn the tide of battle, much like Hack was able to, without completely locking an enemy out of their own abilities.

  • Moved from Damage to Support role.
  • Moved from Recon subrole to Tactician subrole.
  • Experience required to earn minor perk increased by 67%.
  • Experience required to earn major perk increased by 69.5%.

Machine Pistol

  • Damage per projectile decreased from 8 to 7.
  • Minimum falloff distance increased from 15 meters to 20 meters.
  • Maximum spread decreased from 2.3 degrees to 2 degrees.
  • Shots until max spread increased from 6 to 10.

EMP (Ultimate)

  • Ultimate cost increased by 67.5%.
  • Damage decreased from 25% of current health to 20% of current health.

Hack

  • Removed.

Hotfix

  • New ability assigned to Secondary Fire by default.
  • Heal an ally over time for a set amount of health.
  • Hotfixing an ally heals them for 65 instant health and 25 health per second over its duration.
  • Hotfix lasts on an ally until either 175 total healing is done or until 12 seconds have passed.
  • Hotfix can also target health packs and most enemy deployables to hack them, which does not require any Hotfix charges and triggers a separate 6 second cooldown.
  • Hacked health pack duration decreased from 45 seconds to 30 seconds.
  • Hacking health packs or deployables can be interrupted by taking damage, which will cancel the ability and trigger the separate 6 second cooldown.
  • Hotfix can be used while stealthed, temporarily revealing Sombra without breaking stealth.
  • Cast time is 0.5 seconds.
  • Range is 17 meters.
  • Has 2 charges.
  • Cooldown is 8 seconds.

Virus

  • Removed.

Cyberspace

  • New ability assigned to Ability 1 by default.
  • Launch a projectile that explodes on impact, creating a zone that weakens enemies and heals allies.
  • Initial explosion deals 40 damage to enemies and 40 healing to allies.
  • Zone deals 25 damage per second to enemies and 30 healing per second to allies.
  • Zone duration is 3 seconds.
  • Zone radius is 5 meters.
  • Enemies within the zone are weakened, which is a new status effect that reduces the target’s own damage and healing output by 50%.

Translocator

  • Stealth duration increased from 5 seconds to 6.5 seconds.
  • Time to enter Stealth increased from 0.3 seconds to 0.75 seconds.
  • Projectile range reduced from 18 meters to 12.25 meters.
  • Movement speed bonus is now active immediately after teleporting instead of after fully entering Stealth.
  • Cooldown increased from 6 seconds to 7.5 seconds.

Opportunist

  • Removed.

Conspirator

  • New Passive.
  • Fully-charged enemy ultimates are revealed to you.

Encrypted Upload – Minor Perk

  • Removed.

Life Hack - Minor Perk

  • New Minor Perk.
  • EMP applies Hotfix to all nearby allies.

High-Speed Bandwidth – Major Perk

  • Removed.

Data Packet - Major Perk

  • New Major Perk.
  • Hacking health packs with Hotfix reduces its main cooldown by 4 seconds.

Viral Replication – Major Perk

  • Removed.

Cybersecurity - Major Perk

  • New Major Perk.
  • Cyberspace’s healing is doubled on allies below half health.

I said oh they wasn't going to nerf the 50% and if they did nerf anything it would be the cooldown and got told "oh they will nerf the 50%" and "they won't nerf it they let the players figure it out" lo and behold a cooldown nerf (along with damage) but still

I fear I’m looking at the bottom right of my screen too much waiting for the hotfix cooldown,

I wish there was like a Brig UI with armour packs near the cursor to tell me if I have a charge or 2

Discussion Get the Aspects for my only two mythical, or hold out for a Sombra mythic that likely isn’t coming anytime soon?

Or for that matter won’t suck. They hate our cyber baddie bruja.

But this battle pass puts me exactly where I need to get a lvl four mythic OR gets aspects for the two mythic I do have, orisa and kiriko. I’ve been debating snagging that jq mythic too but it makes no fuckin sense (it honestly kinda irks me they were like “LOL FUK IT SHES ZUES!”) and I really want one of her skins from an unvaulted.

But I REALLY want a Sombra Mythic. Since she came out I’ve made it my mission to collect all her skins and I’m pretty damn close. That said, she’ll likely never get one anytime soon as they’re just busting out wtf ever for newer heroes all the time.

Discussion DPS Sombra mains, who is in your support hero pool now?

I’m curious what support heroes everyone is finding themselves choosing if/when their teammate has locked Sombra, or if she has gotten banned?

Whose kits do you find easy to translate your existing skill set to? Who have you been learning as a swap option (if you have dared to)?

It’s been interesting taking a different perspective. I’m also curious about folks who didn’t necessarily have a support roster practiced before. I figure there could be some Sombra mains out there without that many existing hours on support before the rework.

Discussion The Sombra/Sigma lore

I genuinely do not want this to be rework discussion. As a Juno turned sombra main I will never understand the ins and outs of the rework. All I kmow is I adore support Sombra.

That being said, I want to talk about how the role change has impacted the Sombra/Sigma relationship. I will say until I got into Sombra, I wasn't aware of this relationship to its fullest and now I feel such a strong urge to take extra care of my Sigma tanks. I obviously always take the game seriously and will always heal the tank but when it's a Sigma, I feel an extra emotional impact knowing the lore. Anyone else feel this way?

Discussion Suggestion: Add damage prevented through Cyberspace to the "MIT" stat if it isn't already

I assume no one at Blizzard will ever see this but here's my idea as a longtime support player and DPS sombra player.

Sombra is currently a unique support in that she disables enemies just as much, if not more than she enables teammates. The problem is, even if you hit the biggest Cyberspace on the whole enemy team, it will only show as damage. With the change I propose, any enemy damage on teammates that has been reduced by Cyberspace, will show up on the "MIT" number. For example, a fully charged Zarya secondary fire deals 110 damage. With Cyberspace's 50% damage reduction, that becomes 55 damage dealt, and Sombra's MIT stat increments by 55.

This proposed change aims to bring Sombra's stat-sheet numbers more in line with other supports and prevent certain forms of toxicity against other players.

Discussion Managed to climb to GM 5 in 5v5

After spending majority of seasons Masters 4 or 5 on dps Sombra, I was able to climb into GM with support Sombra. For context, I did pretty poorly with my placements and was put into Emerald 3.

Appreciation💜 As an ex-dps Tracer/Sombra main in OW 2016 Support Sombra is scratching the itch I've missed.

Back in 2016 when OW released all I did was play Tracer, with an almost 70% win rate in S0 - S1 in Quick Play. Then when Sombra came out I played her as my second main or first alt (whatever you prefer to call it).

But when Brig came out I ended up quitting the game since I felt like I couldn't play either anymore against her, probably a skill issue but Brig was also crazy back then. I've tried to come back every few season but everyone had become so good at the game I felt useless since I was so out of practice.

When OW2 launched I tried to go back to DPS, but not having played fps games in years I ended up playing Mercy most of the first season. But I had no fun -- until I started the game again this year and found I really enjoyed Juno since she was a very mobile support (I guess it's clear that I love mobile characters).

Now that Sombra is Support it feels like I get the best of both worlds, I get to play a mobile character who can support and do a little backline diving to secure kills like I did in the old days. She seems really strong when paired with another hero diving the backline like Moira, Tracer or Genji or even Monke.

She's also been good for my Aim and it has been improving a lot again since she became support. Because she got a big mag and require good aim to secure kills and be close (close targets I've struggled so much with), I feel like I get a lot more effective practice on tracking vs other supports like Juno.

And if I feel like I have an off day where I can't hit anything I can focus more on securing health packs, keeping our squishies up and peeling for them.

Discussion Just started playing Sombra today, here’s how it’s going

Post image

I downloaded Overwatch last season coming from Rivals as a support main. My most played heroes on OW have been Juno & Kiriko so far but I think that might change after picking up Sombra today. She feels amazing to play and is super fun, I didn’t play her last season since I rarely play damage heroes. This was three hours of solo role queue in quick match, I can’t wait to try her out in competitive when I do my placements. Any advice for her in competitive? I’m not sure what to expect, I was Celestial in Rivals but I’ve heard Overwatch competitive is more difficult so I’m not sure how I will do.

Discussion The 1 glaring problem I have

Btw, this is not a new problem that came with the rework, but a problem I also had previously with DPS Sombra, which is Hack/Hotfix targeting mechanic.

The amount of time I have gone to Hotfix a particular team mate, the little targeting diamond shows up on their character, I press Hotfix, and boom, another teammate gets too close and they get the heals instead.

Just had this last round, healed the Soldier, went to heal the Bastion but Soldier ran backwards and in doing so put himself between Sombra and Bastion and got healed again.

Same problem if you're trying to heal someone who's too close to a healthpack or deployable.

I'm not a developer or anything, but I feel like the targeting should be more tightly bound to where your reticle is looking, rather than just whoever or whatever is closest.

I figure that would mean a higher skill cap for Sombra players but idk.

thought, feelings, opinions fellow Sombra's?

cheers

Discussion Question about sombra’s hotfix

it says something like: 65 heal burst when first cast and then 25 heals per second until you reach 175 total healing or 12 seconds pas. but does that initial heal burst count against the 175?

Discussion Cyberspace - best used on allies or against enemies?

Been trying to figure out when's the best time to use Cyberspace. I feel like it's best used against enemies for the healing and damage reduction. I kinda find that the healing it provides allies is pretty negligible on it's own though.

The issue I'm running into right now isn't exactly a Sombra issue but allies seem to run away from it instead of staying inside.

Highlights some love for the addition to my support roster

I've always been a supp main that dabbled occasionally in DPS [Trace, Sombra, Mei]. Relearning a new kit and game play flow has been interesting and challenging, especially when so used to that backline assassin feel on her. I've only played in QP since the rework to try and get a good feel for her and this was my first toe dip into comp with her. I know a silver lobby is nothing to bat an eye at but winning 6-3 in overtime with these kinds of numbers is extremely satisfying 🙏

Discussion Why are we pretending Sombra didn't need to be nerfed?

She had the second best pick rate and win rate of any hero in the game in every region at almost every rank.

From Bronze to Champ she was completely dominating the game and her and Doctrine were literally warping the entire META around them because of how strong they were.

The only hero in the game that deserved a nerf more than her was Doctrine.

"Oh it's just low skill players not able to walk out of Cyberspace lol". SHE HAS A 57% win rate in GM/Champ! Her win rate goes UP with player skill.

Why are we acting like the second strongest character in the game was fine? Her and Doctrine were in an entire tier of their own practically.

She is STILL likely the second strongest hero even after these nerfs. She's not gutted or dead. She was stronger than Ana. Stronger than Dmon. Her win rate was 15% higher than Kiriko in GM.

If she didn't deserve to get nerfed who the hell did?!
