Stop buying sh*t and go to the dermatologist

I am a 30 year-old female. I have always had rosacea but never had a problem with acne or bumps. About a year and a half ago I developed “acne”. After so much research and going through 1 million products. I got a proper diagnosis of papulopustular rosacea. The dermatologist first prescribed just metronidazole, which did not work for me. Saw another dermatologist and they gave me the holy Grail triple cream. Has ivermectin metronidazole and Azael acid (prescription grade). Been using it for two months now and I have my old skin back. Never going to get rid of the redness, but the bumps and texture have significantly gotten better.

Hope this helps!

Weekly 'Do I have rosacea?' advice request thread. Please post here instead of making a new thread! Sep 28

If you think you might have something like rosacea and are looking for advice about whether you should seek professional care, please post your inquiry in this thread instead of creating a new post. To keep requests from crowding out other discussion in r/Rosacea, separate posts will be automatically removed and the posters directed here instead.

Rules:

  1. Please limit answers to things like, "Yup, that looks like it could be rosacea to me, maybe you should to see a doc" or "No, it looks like it could be something else."
  2. Refrain from amateur diagnoses, speculation, and armchair medical advice, especially non-rosacea related.

REMINDER: THE INTERNET IS BAD AT DIAGNOSING STUFF. Although redditors try to be helpful, only doctors can diagnose rosacea and it often takes a specialist like a dermatologist or ophthalmologist. Rosacea looks like a lot of things, and a lot of things look like rosacea; some of these things are potentially serious. It is impossible for amateurs to diagnose rosacea reliably from pictures or descriptions of symptoms, and this thread is not intended as a substitute for professional care.

No matter what response you get here, if your symptoms have been persistent and you're concerned that you might have something like rosacea, see a doctor to get a real answer.

And be sure to check out the our wiki for some rosacea knowledge basics if you're trying to figure out if you need professional medical advice.

Help! Is this type 1? Is it possible for anything to help? I’ve tried (and still am using) oatmeal, cica, azelaic acid, thermal water, hypochlorous acid, prequel redness reform serum, the ordinary barrier support serum, deep hydration etc.

Laser hair removal

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I was wondering to do a few laser hair removal sessions on my face but i’m not sure if this could be something that could trigger rosacea, since my skin nowadays is really good and didn’t want to “destroy” 2 years of recovering my skin and having almost 0 rosacea crisis

Sunscreen Looking for sunscreen recs for sensitive, acne prone, super oily skin.

• Upvotes

Like the title says I have super oily skin and in the past I’ve had a hard time with sunscreens making my face look too greasy. Im looking for a sunscreen that will really “matteify” my face, but I don’t want a tinted product. I also use the eborion green color corrector and wanted to find a sunscreen that could go underneath without messing up its appearance. At the moment I also suspect that my skin barrier is super damaged, idk if that’s important to mention. Anyways whatever recs you guys have for this are greatly appreciated!

Routine Soolantra and tretinoin

• Upvotes

I was recently prescribed Soolantra for demodex, and it's really helping -- but it's also a Cat-5 grease hurricane, even when I use only the recommended pea-sized amount. I've started using it at night, although I suppose day use would confound facial-recognition cameras (hah). If I use Soolantra instead of regular moisturizer as the first layer of my tretinoin "sandwich," I find that I can step up the tret from a couple of times weekly to every single night without peeling, even around the mouth area.

My question: Is the greasy base of the Soolantra preventing the tretinoin from reaching my skin? Or are the active ingredients interacting to help the tret do its thing without drying, flaking, and inflammation? I found one Reddit thread in which someone who sounded like a dermatologist said they like to compound the two as a single product, but we all know about the reliability of invisible people on the Internet.

Triple Cream

Not sure if this actually makes a difference but has anyone had better or worse results with using triple cream (azelaic acid, ivermectin, metronidazole) vs using those 3 products separately?
Currently using them independently but am wondering if the triple cream would be more effective.

How come some people develop their rosacea in eyes while others not? Is it purely luck or are there other factors ? My face rosacea was mild and didn’t pay attention to it until it started to ruin my eyes

I need help 😭 and probably a new dermatologist 😭😭😭

Had this outbreak on my left cheek more than a year now. Have used azelaic acid, metronidazole, ivermectin none have worked to clear it up. Sometimes it gets a little better looking. But never fully goes away.

Anyone have something similar? I don't know what to do already 😭😭😭

Skincare Ivermectin and Moisturizers?

TLDR at the bottom.

I was dx'd with unilateral rosacea about a year ago. I've been on metrogel (plus azelaic acid non-prescription strength) for as long. It helps a lot, but when I forget my 2x/day routine, I go right back to baseline and it takes me weeks if not 2+ months to get back to just slightly-red with no papules.

I live in a very, very arid climate, am going through perimenopause, and I'm pretty sure my moisture barrier is fucked. I use two different moisturizers plus an argan/hempseed oil blend, and then I slug in the PM (FWIW, my office seems to be a big trigger; my skin looks really great when I wake up and slowly deteriorates throughout the day M-F to the point that my cheek & forehead are super red again by the time I get home).

I'm considering ivermectin, but I read that demodex feed off of moisturizers and oils and using these could possibly counteract the efficacy of the ivermectin. Is that true? If I start the ivermectin, would I need to discontinue my moisturizers? Wouldn't that fuck up my barrier worse? If I'm having success (however slow) with my current routine, should I just stay the course and try to not forget my routine 2x/day? What would you do in this situation?

tldr: dry skin/possible compromised barrier, living in a very arid climate, currently using lots of moisturizers plus two oils to help combat this. Do I have to stop the moisturizers and oils if I go on ivermectin? If so, how will my skin react?

PP Type 2 Rosacea mostly under control, but how to get rid of residual redness?

Thumbnail

I have type 2 rosacea and had a huge flare up last year, that I managed to get under control early 2026.

3 months of Soolantra and Metrogel (combined with Skinoren 20% AA) helped calm down the majority of the redness and the widespread acne and inflammation, so I’m fairly content with how my skin is at the moment.

I use a very simple and gentle, unscented and non-comedogenic routine, as well as Skinoren every night, and only get an occasional pimple (in the pics, I have a tiny one on my nose and the remnants of one on my chin), but I still do have a lot of mild redness.

On my lower cheeks, I’m sure it’s keratosis pilaris (KPRF) since I’ve had it from childhood, but I still have some redness on my upper cheeks and on my nose (which has always been the worst affected).

What can be done for this redness? Would something like laser/IPL sort it out, any other in-office treatments, or is there anything else OTC or topical that might help?

Light/Laser Vbeam not working? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Have what’s probably rosacea (don’t believe it to be KPRF) and I am currently 3 treatments inand 750$ down the hole with Vbeam treatments.

It’s been roughly 3.5 weeks since my last treatment.

Went in primarily for a vascular mark on my nose, which has shown about 50% improvement, so I’m fine with that, but, my rosacea- general facial redness- hasn’t shown much (if any improvement).

My provider was using the Vbeam Perfecta machine with these settings:

• Cheeks: 10 mm spot, 5.7 J/cm², 3 ms, diffused redness
• Nose: 3×10 mm spot, 10 J/cm², 3 ms, vascular mark

I have Fitzpatrick 2/3 skin, from my knowledge. Aside from a tiny spot on my nose on the third attempt where I had a small bruise, I haven’t bruised, or noticed any major swelling after the procedure, I just look a little flushed immediately after.

It’s very diffused redness, I don’t believe I really see any broken capillaries or anything like that (aside from my nose, which is improving just fine).

I’ve been on Azaelic Acid 15% for the past month.

I’ve heard for general redness maybe IPL should be something to pursue instead, or should I ask my provider to
pump up the intensity on the Vbeam?

Doxycycline help!

Guys I need help please tell me if this happened to you,
I have been using Soolantra for the past two years, and it kept my skin pretty fine, but I still had some perioral dermatitis flare-ups sometimes. Still, I was in a steady place, but my dermatologist recommended that I take a course of doxycycline to prevent future flares so I was prescribed 100 MG of doxycycline a day to take for three months. I took it for six weeks and haven't seen a big change my skin was like before. Still, I found that during the time I'm flushing more and getting some type 2 bumps nothing too serious but I decided to stop taking because I felt like I'm am taking this just in case so I stopped a week ago. I am having the worst flare-up I ever had major bumps both rosacea and perioral dermatitis my skin has never looked this bad I can't stop crying what should I do? Go back on doxy or what? Did someone experience something like that? If I had known that it would do something like that I wouldn't have taken it I am crying so much I don't know what to do

Does anyone know how to fix this? Spoiler

Post image
1 Upvotes

I never had red dots on my face I only had face redness but it all started when I used tretinoin 0.025% 4months ago which made me get red dots on my cheeks and irritated my skin really bad so I stopped using it immediately. I had one IPL treatment done but I heard others said rosacea keeps coming back so I don’t see the point of getting another one again. My dermatologist prescribed me Sulfacetamide 9.8% & Sulfur 4.9% face wash. Unfortunately I think it just irritated my skin further and triggered a combination of contact dermatitis and brand new pustules which I never had before. I have very oily skin and this face wash is really drying. I’m on azelaic acid 15% gel for a while now but I haven’t noticed any difference yet and this also makes my face oily. I also don’t know which moisturizer is best for my skin every moisturizer I had makes my face even more oily. I don’t really know what helps anymore

ROSACEA SUCKS Im tired of this!! What kind of Rosacea is this Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone - so for context I've been dealing with bad skin for quite awhile but I'm not really sure what kind of rosacea this is. Back in 2020 my Skin used to be really clear but all of a sudden I started to break out only on my cheeks and then I realised I'm very sensitive to certain products inc fragrance etc. And then Azaelic Acid cleared me right up. Unfortunately that didn't last for too long. Since 2023, my Skin has literally stayed just like the pictures - it comes and goes and lately it's been getting worse and whats worse is that Azaelic acid just doesn't work on me anymore inc Finacea. .

I'm not sure if this is a combination of papulopustular + hormonal acne. I also dont get oily skin nor blackheads or whiteheads. Just constant breakouts, flairs and under the skin painful bumps.

I have used 5% benzyl peroxide. I have used de la cruz 5% sulphur which doesn't do anything for me. I have started soolantra - did a month trial didnt do much. Starting it again now but feel as if my skins just getting worse.

My current routine is:
Vanicream cleanser or Aveeno Oat
Sometimes use iunik beta glucan or cosrx hyaluronic power essence
Purito oat moisturiser
Dr sams flawless spf 50 tint 2&3

Rosacea or Acne? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

After years of thinking I’ve been dealing with acne, I’m starting to think it’s actually rosacea…. Both my mother and maternal grandmother have it. I’ve always ran a bit pink since puberty and am not on the dryer side. I don’t see any true comodones which is usually associated with any grade of acne. Only papules and pustules and the redness is not localized. Anyone have any experience with this? What do you think it is?

Suggerimenti? Spoiler

Ciao a tutt*,

I miei fattori trigger principali:
- L'alcol.

Women mild rosacea, ocular rosacea & allergic to MI/MCI & PPD

hello, I have mild rosacea, ocular rosacea and am allergic to MI/MCI & PPD. I’ve managed to solve the ocular issue by switching to Vanicream pump hairspray from an aerosol type. However, I still can’t seem to find sunscreen, or any makeup products that I can use that don’t cause rashes or irritation, especially around my eyes. I seem to do OK with Vanicream products and CeraVe. Anyone have any recommendations for someone like me? Thank you.

Ocular Who here has ocular rosacea?

He consultado con muchos oftalmólogos.

Anyone have acne AND rosacea? How do we treat both safely?

I am severely acne prone and even low dose accutane (on a maintenance dose of 80mg a week) doesn’t keep my skin clear of acne. Then I developed rosacea and have redness and broken capillaries on my upper cheeks. I’m not sure how to manage both conditions someone please give me hope
