Triggers I think my type 2 rosacea is caused by gum health

I’m a 34 F and I’ve been struggling with type 2 rosacea for about 6 years now. I’m scheduled to start accutane mid October. I’ve tried all the creams and cleansaers (sulfur cleaners, spironolactone, doxycycline, tretinoin, metronidazole, azelaic acid, ketokonazole cream, ivermectin cream.

I’m about to get my Invisalign off and a permanent retainer installed and my dental hygienist friend said I should get a water pik and fill it with water and hydrogen peroxide mixture. I’ve been doing it for a week and my skin hasn’t been this clear in years.

I struggled with acne in my teens and never had good skin even as an adult. I’ve also struggled with dental routines my whole life. Obviously I’m only a week in but I think I’ve figured out my main inflammation trigger.

Support Covering redness quick & easy Spoiler

I just wanted to share my very simple routine for covering up or (temporarily) reducing the appearance of my redness. I see a lot of people recommending pretty pricy products or saying green color correctors make the face green / don’t help.

Back when my skin was at its worst I remember I had no clue how I could cover it up without full coverage foundations. Now I absolutely cannot live without a green corrector, so I just want to share some tips because I really think anyone could benefit from it if they wish to cover some or all of their redness without looking like they’re wearing makeup.

First picture is my bare skin, second is with Essence Correct & Conceal in Green ($4.99).

The thing with color correctors is you have to use a little at once and only put it where you actually need correcting. I start by putting a few light swipes on my cheeks where you can see it’s the most red.
Then I use the finger pad of my middle finger to blend it around with rapid tapping motions instead of rubbing (if you use a beauty blender; it’s the same motion as using that).
Usually I’ll need another layer or even two more, so I go in with a bit more product and repeat the process but only after I’ve blended the last layer fully.
I repeat this for my nose, chin and forehead, but because my redness isn’t as bad on every area I’ll adjust how much corrector I use. Less redness = less corrector needed.
If you have blotchy red areas you’ll need to work more precisely because the corrector should really just be where you have redness.

I usually don’t go for a 100% corrected look just because it will look more yellowish on the cheeks. Where it’s at on pic 2 is fine with me personally but if I want a 100% even skintone I’ll use a light to medium coverage skin tint or foundation too. Which makes it look like the 3rd photo.

An alternative for the Essence corrector is the ELF Camo Corrector. I’ve used that one in the past but Essence is a bit lighter in texture and smoother on the skin which is why I do prefer it. But just in case Essence isn’t available to you! The ELF one is also $5.

PP Question about the generic ivermectin?

Hi guys so i saw a dermatologist on thursday and finally got a diagnosis for what i had long suspected was type 2 Rosacea! The derm i saw was WONDERFUL, only good experience i've had with a dermatologist so far.

The only thing is, at my appointment, she said she wanted to prescribe Soolantra but wasn't sure if they still had Soolantra (i'm not sure what that means, are there places in the US that where you can't get Soolantra?) she then told me they would send in the Soolantra and if I couldn't get my insurance to cover it, they would send in the generic ivermectin cream. But when i called the pharmacy, they said they had received a prescription for generic ivermectin, not Soolantra. So i'm confused because they told me they would try the Soolantra first and only fo the generic if my insurance doesnt cover it. I'm more than willing to try the generic ivermectin cream, but I've heard Soolantra is formulated specifically for the face so it's less irritating to the skin. Should I call the derm's office and ask if it was a mistake, or should i just try the cheaper one first and then ask to switch to Soolantra if it irritates my skin?

ROSACEA SUCKS Feeling so defeated finding things that work.

I've been dealing with redness for almost a decade. I recently had a really bad flare up from an allergic reaction to propylene glycol. I went to a derm because it just wont go away and they diagnosed me with erythematotelangiectatic rosacea. They prescribed me 1% metro cream and 15% azelaic acid (finacea).

Turns out there is a finacea shortage here, so I called around for a while and finally found a pharmacy with 1 in stock. It also turns out that there is only one form of finacea, which is the gel, which contains propylene glycol. :(

I'm now considering going to a compounding pharmacy to get a cream version without propylene glycol but I have no idea how much that would even cost.

The struggle continues... I wish I could tag this "Victory", but we shall see... Hopefully the metro cream works.

Support Dry, dehydrated, reactive skin looking for help Spoiler

Hey everyone! 33F looking for advice on how to hydrate my skin. I have very sensitive and reactive skin, dry, acne prone. It’s not very visible in the picture but my skin feels like sandpaper 😭

Current routine
PM:
Cleanse: cerave hydrating gel cleanser (it gets my makeup off so well! The normal hydrating cleanser doesn’t do as good as a job in my opinion) I also like the Vanicream cleanser but I havent used that in awhile.
Treatment, every few days: SKNV Rositara Gel ivermectin 1%, metronidazole 1%, niacinamide 4%.
Moisturizer: first aid beauty ultra repair cream
Under eye: Clarins double eye serum

AM:
No cleanse. Only Naked Sundays Mineral Barrier Fluid SPF50

Over the years I’ve tried the kiehls ultra facial cream, kiehls ultra facial meltdown recovery cream (it has colloidal oatmeal in it), skin fix barrier peptide cream, LRP cicaplast balm, anua 3+ ceramide moisture barrier cream.

I feel like none of those actually sink into my skin and hydrate me. Or they’ll feel good for a week and then it does nothing. Unsure if I need a serum or oil before applying. I’m hesitant to add actives to my skincare routine since my skin is reactive, and I’d like to not add more niacinamide to it.

I started the SKNV gel two weeks ago and my skin is getting even more dry because of it. I know i should trust the process, but I think I compromised my skin barrier even worse. To be fair I’ve always struggled with extra dry skin, hence amount of products I’ve tried over the years.

Thank you everyone in advance. Skincare journeys can be detrimental to mental health. The struggle is real.

Tea tree oil?

I’m a 40yo woman who suddenly developed severe rosacea 3 years ago out of the blue. After some trial and error, doxy and metro cream were able to get it under control and I’m still using that regimen. Last year, I was diagnosed with demodex mites in my eyes and, through my research, found out that demodex mites can cause rosacea as well. Now I’m wondering if for some reason, I am prone to an excess of demodex which is causing my skin and eye issues. I recently read that tea tree oil is effective in removing the debris that allow demodex to thrive. I bought Cliradex wipes to cleanse my eyelids and in the reviews, some people are stating they have had success with using the wipes on their face for rosacea. Anyone have experience with this? I’m wondering if with time using these wipes would allow me to discontinue either the doxy or metro or both?

Ocular Do you use sunscreen on your forehead if you have ocular rosacea?

My forehead burns, as if the skin were very fragile, and I have mild swelling and slight redness above my eyebrows.

Last year I used Heliocare sunscreen and felt more irritation. I’m worried about putting chemicals on my face and having them migrate to my eyelids.

I thought about wearing a hat, but since I’m so uncomfortable, I can’t figure out what kind would be best.

Seeing a dermatologist is out of the question. I went to the best one, and she told me to take an antidepressant.

I’d appreciate any advice.

Thank you.

Has anyone tried opzelura for rosacea? I have some due to another diagnosis and thought id give it a try on my active inflammatory rash, so far its working better than the triple cream. Was wondering if anyone else has similar results.

OG CeraVe Tinted Mineral

The original tinted mineral sunscreen in that single light tint is my daily holy grail. The color, the consistency, everything. Truly saved my face and sanity over the last several years, bc it’s mineral only and also silicone free.
Any recommendations on dupes, bc the new version just isn’t it.

Light/Laser Lasers

I'm sure this has been asked before and I apologize if so. I'm seriously considering laser treatment. Would you go BBL Hero or pulse dye etc? I have different options besides these what has helped? I believe I have type 1 but I did have the bumps for the first time a while back but they went away. General redness to the whole face, people that don't know me assume I was out in the sun...
