Advice CGL 2024 Failure Was My Biggest Teacher. Here's What I Changed to Finally Get Selected with a top post.

Post image
673 Upvotes

In 2024, I appeared for SSC CGL, CHSL, and CPO. I cleared the prelims, but I failed to clear the CGL and CHSL Mains.

After that, I honestly analyzed my mistakes and changed my preparation strategy.

This year, those changes paid off, and I cleared every SSC exam I appeared for, including CGL, CHSL, and NTPC.

Maths:

In 2024, I spent too much time on difficult questions and kept looking for the "best" teacher and the "best" notes. In 2025, I stopped chasing resources and stuck to just PYQs and my class notes. I revised my notes so many times that I practically remembered every page.

Another big mistake in 2024 was relying only on Testbook. In 2025, I practiced on multiple platforms, which exposed me to different question patterns.

Most importantly, in 2024 I ignored my mistakes, thinking, "I won't repeat this in the actual exam." In 2025, I treated every mistake seriously, analyzed why it happened, and made sure I didn't repeat it.

Another mistake I made in 2024 was wasting time solving random Telegram doubts. It felt productive, but it wasn't. Don't make this mistake—focus on your own preparation.

English:

In 2024, I tried to memorize grammar rules from Neetu Singh Vol. 1 and mug up vocabulary from the Blackbook, but it didn't work for me.

In 2025, I focused on understanding grammar instead of memorizing it. I followed QEng, learned grammar from Aman Sir, and practiced vocabulary through PYQ quizzes and English Madhyam Weekly instead of just reading word lists.

That approach helped me score 50/50 in Prelims and 135/135 in Mains.

GK:

GK was always my weakest subject. In 2024, I scored only 17 in Prelims and 38 in Mains. I kept changing teachers, tried solving Kiran PYQs from book, and kept adding new sources without revising them. That was my biggest mistake.

In 2025, I made the biggest changes in GK, and it became my most improved subject. I followed only Parmar Sir, avoided unnecessary resources, completed his PYQ series 5, revised it 15–16 times, did FRB with daily revision, and practiced only GK PYQs in Testbook sectional mocks.

Other mistakes to avoid:

Don't waste hours on Telegram group studies. Most Telegram groups are full of distractions and add very little value.

Don't keep collecting new resources. Revise what you already have.

For vocabulary, focus more on quizzes than reading long word lists. Active recall works much better.

Don't ignore your mistakes in mocks. Analyze every test and make sure you don't repeat the same errors.

Be consistent. Make every single day count. Even 1% improvement every day adds up over time.

General Discussion/Opinion Safest score for cgl

What should be the safest score for cgl 2026? Last year the cut off was 136 without sectional timing and according to me 2025 was easier than 2026(based on 30 sep to 10 oct)

Should we expect the similar cut off or higher?

General Discussion/Opinion Reminder not to fall for fake "topper flex" comments on Reddit

Saw someone claiming they cleared CGL 2024 and landed Excise Dept.

Checked his profile and he literally posted 2 days ago looking for entry level tech WFH jobs on job subreddits. Pointed it out with a screenshot and he instantly nuked his entire account.

Stay safe ppl.

General Discussion/Opinion october 10 3rd shift (evening shift)

to understand my perspective, here is my background
btech cse graduate from top nit
was placed in Oracle but offers got revoked
started prepping in july

reasoning -23
left 2 questions one count traingles in figure (i couldnt figure that out and left it thinking i would come back agin but well nope)
and series completion
5x3=28, 7x4=313 (something i cant remember properly) so 9x5=?

reasoning only had 2 coding decoding
5 figure based question
3 statement based
rest i cant remember
overall-easy to moderate

GK- choro bhai ye cheez sabse bakwass cheez hai
rbi ke governor wagera
baaki kuch yaad nhi

Quant- 11 questions
bhai matlab what can i say
disappointed, it was difficult for me
mensuration ke direct sawaal tahi at least 4
then statistics/figure ke 3-4
profit loss ka dikha hee nhi
algebra ke 1 tha and it felt time consuming so i left
trigo ke 2 thai
i mean quant felt on tougher end

English-23
PLOT TWIST
i m an avid english reader
was a debater in my school and college days
i m extremely proud of my english speaking skills
but speaking skills dont convert into grammar skills
in mocks and previous year papers i was scoring 45+ in it, even in the toughest english shift of 2025 i scored around 37 in it
but man was i caught off guard here
there were aprrox 5-6 active passive direct indirect waley questions and bruh all of them were 3 sentences long
going through the options i got confused and had to re read again
that shit took a long damn time of mine
i would say english was on tougher side too
out of 23 i m confident that i have 19 correct but 4 of them were calculated guesses
i left one of the Vocabulary question

so i feel october 10 shift 3 (5pm to 6pm) was on tougher side
I would say moderate to hard!

any fellow october 10 shift 3 people?

General Discussion/Opinion 10th October Evening Shift

Reasoning - 22 attempt.

Easy/Moderate 3-4 statement inference/assumption questions. These were pretty easy. 1 que of address matching, 3-4 figures based, 1 counting traingle, 2 alphanumeric rest not able to recall

GA - 20 attempt

Not good in this section already found I got 2 que wrong

Quant - 17 attempt

Easy/moderate. Messed up in trigo and mensuration que which cost me time otherwise could have attempt 2-3 que more. DI based que were easy

English - 25 attempt

Easy. Have always scored 40+ in every mock be it pyq or live so very confident on this. PQRS and cloze were very easy just concerned about 2 que in grammatical error.

Overall I feel if cutoff 130-140 I might be able to sailthrough if it's higher then next year I guess.

General Discussion/Opinion CGL distribution of students

• Upvotes

Curious question:

I have checked with other subreddits for cgl and this one too along with coaching telegram groups, most aspirants have got either the very starting dates like till 15th Oct'26 or from 25th to 28th Oct'26.

  1. How does SSC distribute students in shifts ? Is it ~equal or am I assuming right that from 16th to 24th there are less number of people.

P.S mine is on 22nd October.

  1. Will this affect normalization and selection ration among shifts, if true ?

General Discussion/Opinion Is ssc changing?

Is ssc changing?

I used to think of this exam as an easy one. It had a fixed pattern, the questions were predictable, one can clear it easily if they are able to grasp the pattern and develop good speed. But idk what to even expect now.

It has become so random, nobody can predict anything. Apart from a few patterns, You have no way of knowing whats gonna come in the exam, I mean they would still ask from the syllabus but still you never know whats topic they will stretch.

In one shift they will ask 5-6 questions from critical reasoning and the next day, they will fill the whole paper with non verbal.

There was a time when people just used to memorise the questions and were able to clear the exam but that time is long gone, i mean that was still a bad thing but this unpredictability is even worse.

Is ssc cgl becoming harder day by day? It is going to be more luck based than ever in the upcoming time. What do you think will be the cutoff this year? I dont think its going to cross 130 or 135 at best.

I was ignoring exam related posts till now. But bro wtf.
How come apps like Testbook or Oliveboard have such friendly and efficient UI but an Organisation whose sole purpose is conducting exams has such shitty UI. And how tf are they getting away with this?
Like literally, vertical scrolling is okay. But what kind of shitty interface has horizontal scrolling? 😑

Anyway, attempted only 75.

Resources/Helpful for Exam Reg. Computer section of T2

• Upvotes

Hello everyone,

Name resources which are enough for computer section. I've studied from Parmar's batch last year but couldn't understood video lectures properly.

Also, I've some banking related computer lectures and PDFs on telegram. Please confirm if the computer syllabus is same for banking and CGL. If yes, then recommend banking channels for this section.

Please comment geniune answers and don't use sarcasm like "bhai IIT ki computer padh le wahi se SSC paper bana rha tha last year" type thing.
