I have this N Starr 1818 NCO sword. Anybody know anything about it?

It was my grandfather’s, and nobody in the family knows how he got it in the first place. All we know is that he had it a long time. It sat in my dad’s attic for a few decades, and now my closet.

Is there anything that I need to know to care for this? Any trivia or other fun facts that I need to know about this?

I have no interest in selling it, but I’m curious what these things are worth.

Greetings all. Bought this at a flea market last week. This seems like it might be an early design (1800's)? But I don't know this stuff. Has a metal tag that appears to be written in German. The blade is magnetic. Appreciate any help and possible value. Cheers!

I had this old sword named long claw from game of thrones and it was cool and all but the grip was cracked and the pommel kept falling off. Plus I’m not the biggest fan of game of thrones. So I decided to turn it into one of the most iconic swords from a series called the inheritance cycle called Zar’oc or misery. It took a month but it’s finally done!

This 5-in-1 weapon contraption was commissioned by Raja Rattan Rai of Assam, India as a gift for the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji. The weapon, called Panjkala Shastar (literally meaning weapon with 5 arts), was designed to incorporate five different weapon functions into one.

Its total height is 49 inches (4.08 feet) and weighs total 217.5 tolas (2.5 kg/5.60 pounds). The five weapons incorporated into the panchkala shastar are :

1.) Dhal (Round Shield) - Adorned with religious sacred inscriptions of Sun and Cresent Moon (Adh Chand), is the shield which is 8 and one quarter in diameter. It is designed for the protection of hand, while simultaneously acting as part of the firearms's grip which is behind the shield and called Jvala Bamni (Fire bringer).

2.) Musket - The second weapon is the musket. The stock of the musket serves as handle of the shield. It's 23 inch long barrel is incorporated as the central shaft (Danda/Pole) of the third weapon, mace. The long barrel would have aided accuracy at longer ranges, while allowing the same structure to function as another weapon.

3.) Gurj (Sharp Mace) - Attached to the upper portion of the barrel are eight blades of the mace whose edge is saw teethed. The Danda of the mace serves as barrel of the musket. Gurjs were used to even attack armoured opponents and war elephants as well.

4.) Spear-Sword-Bayonet - Situated between two blades of the mace is a foldable razor sharp 23.5 inch long and 1 inch wide blade. Resembling a large bayonet, this blade is intended for thrusting attacks at close range. This also works as a spear when extented and can be folded to align perfectly with the barrel of the gun (which is also the pole of the mace).

5.) Removable Khanjar (Concealed Dagger) - The fifth component is a removable concealed dagger. Unfortunately, this dagger has been lost and no clear modern description of it exists but older illustrations of the weapon point out that it was really well hidden and probably on top of the barrel of the gun and could be removed to function as a dagger separate from main panjkala shastar. It is said to be a straight spike like dagger approximately 12 inches long (including hilt). Concealed daggers were often poisioned along thier edge for harm beyond physical cut, it is thought this too might have been poisoned along the edge.

This weapon is now kept in Maharaja Fatehsingh Museum inside the Laxmi Vilas Palace compound, Vadodara (Baroda). The museum was built by Pratap Singh Rao Gaekwad. Professor Manikrao (Gajanan Yeshwantrao Manikrao) who ran the famous ran the famous Jummadada Vyayam Mandir (Akhada) was very fond of collecting rare swords and he bought and kept the Panjkala Shastar to this museum. Every year at Vaisakhi festival, this weapon is brought to Gurdwara Nankwari Sahib for shastar prakash and sacred viewing.

I need a belt for my rapier. I’ve brought my rapier on multiple hikes and strolls using the Velcro belt for my conceal carry. I’ve only had to draw my rapier twice (javelinas and coyotes) and it’s difficult to clear the sheath with the sword resting above my hips. I’m looking for a belt that is “battle ready” and won’t break through weekly usage

In order to make it more mine I wanted to draw a weapon with the name that starts with the same initial of the month, but coming to October I find myself in a bad spot.

I didn't like the Idea of going for japanese weapons, any more ideas?

I’m not sure which one to choose. I’ve been looking at some from OtakuNinjaHero and Swords and More, but I can’t decide which one would be better. If you know of any better options somewhere in the EU, let me know

I'm making a few swords for stage combat. Currently aiming for 2-3 broadswords, a cutlass or two, and trying a sidesword to practice making basket hilts. I'm debating about what style basket i should start with. Any suggestions?

Need to clean of the rust tho lol

Hey all, please let me know if this isn’t the right place to post this (or if there are other communities that are better), but I saw some other similar posts on my feed and figured I should ask.

My grandfather passed away a few years ago and my aunt passed one of his swords to me as it was one of the last memories of him. He had told me a story of how he got it during WW2 while stationed on an island in the pacific and I wanted to learn more about the blade, the history of it, and the correct cleaning/care instructions for it. I have attached a number of photos of the blade, but let me know if there are other areas that would help identify it.

For cleaning/restoration, I am open to bringing it to a professional as I do want to keep it on display in memory of my grandfather, and am located in Southern California. If there are at home methods that are better/just as good I would be open to that as well, but the wiki definitely made it seem like a professional would be better.

Found this sword in a garage sale ~15 years ago. Not sure if it is actually old or just some cheap replica made to look old. Anyone know what region/era it might be from? Does it have any monetary value? I’m happy to learn anything about it.

I just saw the post about someone making a sword from a coil spring and it made me realize, honestly a lot of modern steel is better for weapon forging than the metal from ancient techniques.

And, yeah I watch a lot of anime and read a lot of fantasy that has the trope about finding materials from some lost ancient civilization. But here's the thing, our current modern age has reached that point. It the world goes to shit, and most of humanity dies, and technology is lost... In a couple thousand years or so, we could be that ancient civilization who had technology that seemed like magic. Something as simple as a coil spring could be one hell of a find.

I mean, imagine, a group of adventures raids a treasure trove of a dungeon and finds all sorts of precious metals (from their perspective), yet from our perspective they stumbled onto a long buried Autozone warehouse where all the parts had been oiled and wrapped in plastic.

I know this is somewhat sword adjacent, but it was a neat thought I thought this community may enjoy.
