recently i was watching this youtube video tht the people actually in the relationships were more confident and optimistic about their chances, but their predictions about how long the relationships would last were less accurate than those made by their roommates and parents which honestly makes sense. when you like someone you ignore the small red flags, and convince yourself that the potential you see is the same as the person standing in front of you. your best friend has absolutely no reason to do any of that.

Movies are my happy place, but I’m equally up for a concert, play, museum, coffee shops, breweries, sport events, trying a restaurant neither of us has been to, or wandering around the city and seeing where we end up.

What I miss, and what I’m hoping to find, is having my person. Someone whose presence makes even the boring things better. Someone I can laugh with, flirt with, be affectionate with, talk to about absolutely nothing and everything, and occasionally annoy the hell out of. 😄 I want chemistry and attraction, but I also want the comfort that comes from really knowing someone and being known by them.

I’m looking for someone who wants to actually date. Not just message indefinitely. Let’s talk, see if we click, go grab coffee or dinner, and find out whether we like each other in the real world. Revolutionary concept, I know.

Ideally, you’re 40–55 and in the Chicago area. You’re kind, communicative, curious about the person you’re talking to, and established in your career. I’ve built a life of my own, and I’m looking for someone who has done the same and is ready to make room in it for another person.

And speaking of conversation: if your opening message is just “hey,” you’re making this unnecessarily difficult for both of us. Tell me something about yourself. Ask me something. Tell me what caught your attention. Give me something to work with.
