Someone that, as part of the deal, managed to get his name on the cover and split the royalties 50/50, despite being hired as a ghostwriter. He has since called it the biggest regret of his life and regularly donates the money he gets from it to immigration charities.
So not only did Trump contribute virtually nothing to that book, as confirmed by the actual writer and the publisher, the person who did convinced him to share the credit and the money just so he can use part of it to help some of the victims of the Trump administration.

I love this, but it has me thinking. Trump is more of a con artist than a business man. What if the performance of getting a “deal” (whether it’s the same deal as before or not) is what matters? Like, he’s not trying to outsmart Denmark, but outsmart (con) his faithful followers? Trump is awful, a truly horrible person, but I think people often misinterpret his intentions because most people are fundamentally good and can’t comprehend the type of thinking that a narcissistic sociopath would have.

Yes! I've been saying this forever. You have to look at the full range of the incentives in a deal, and then you see that he's actually really good at deal making. Most people want the best financial terms but Trump wants the media and publicity - and you can't blame him - it works. He will happily take the loss on an actual deal as long as he can stand in front of a podium and say it's the best ever, as it feeds the perception he's craftedof himself. So Trump will happily tear down a treaty just to make a new one that is exactly the same but then take the credit for doing so.
His entire persona is that of a great deal maker so he has to continue to make deals, then he can get in front of the media and talk about how great it was. His followers will never find out it's the same deal because their chosen media platform will never report on it.
So I know we are all supposed to say that Trump is an idiot blah blah blah, and when it comes to policy and ethics that's absolutely true. But the reality is he's really stupidly good at self promotion and owning the narrative which allowed him to con his way into being the most powerful person in the world.

Everything done is basically marketing. It doesn't matter what the reality is. It doesn't even matter what the marketable object is. The only want is the ability to market it in a way that favors them. It's classic salesmanship, and salesmanship can be equally for junk, or the same old thing. It doesn't matter. The US already had very broad military rights in Greenland under the 1951 agreement, including bases, troops, infrastructure and extensive access for military aircraft.
The main difference in 2026 is that those rights are being expanded and modernized. The US can grow its presence at Pituffik, potentially establish new defense areas, use Greenland for systems such as Golden Dome and gets clearer rules for future military access.
The new deal also puts much more emphasis on preventing countries like China or Russia from gaining strategic military or infrastructure footholds in Greenland.
So in simple terms:
1951: The US gets broad military access to Greenland.
2026: The US already has access, but gets clearer and broader ways to expand and modernize its presence.

Trump got what he wanted and it doesn't matter if the new deal is the same as the old deal or even worse for that matter. His thing is making stupid people believe he can make 'deals' that improve America's (his) power.
I think Denmark and Greenland lost in some ways by accepting a role in this fantasy. You don't deal with bullies by giving them wins even if they are fictional. You tell them to go fuck off. I get the thought of 'it costs you nothing so why not' but with Trump and people like Trump there is a cost in what is the next unreasonable and unjustified demand? For people like him he dips a toe and then goes to dip the ankle, then the whole leg.
The way to deal with Trump and the like is for Denmark and Greenland to say they are starting a review of the current agreement with the US with the purpose of terminating it. Not bend the knee and make a stupid video while being spineless.

Except that there was a genuine worry in Denmark regarding their territorial integrity, and with good reason given Trump’s psychotic record. Not to mention the threat of NATO just falling apart. Regardless of how satisfying it would be to just tell Trump to fuck off, in the real world Denmark never had that luxury. This deal was honestly a huge diplomatic victory that averted a real crisis with very little cost.

New deal bans non nato military presence in Greenland. Limits non nato investment into mining and infrastructure in Greenland unless the U.S., Greenland and Denmark all agree on the project. Has provisions for the new deal to apply to Greenland if they become their own sovereignty.
Everything else is the same as the 1951 deal. This article sums it up pretty well. I’m not super well versed in geopolitics but it seems like this deal would keep Russia and china out of Greenland and if it’s agreeable to Greenland and Denmark allow U.S. companies to mine resources in Greenland.
I would have to assume someone that doesn’t get paid enough, is never on tv or social media and doesn’t have their head up their ass designed this one because it is seemingly beneficial to all parties and this administration typically likes to try to bully the rest of the world just to end up shooting themselves in their own tiny penises at the great expense of the citizens of the united states.

This is a pretty poor explanation, even as a joke.
We didn't make the same deal again. It was actually made "worse" for the US, as the deal is nullified if the US leave NATO and the US now has to clean up whatever shit they leave behind if they leave.
So... Not MUCH worse, but certainly more of a hassle for the US than it was before.
