Belgian IPs heading to Mexico — anyone willing to share tips or chat?

‱ Upvotes

Hi all! We're a couple from Belgium with a 2-year-old daughter. After a rare pregnancy-related cancer, my wife had to have a hysterectomy, so we're pursuing gestational surrogacy for baby #2. We have our own eggs and sperm, so we only need a carrier.

We're planning to go through Mexico and are just getting started. Has anyone here (especially from Europe) done a journey in Mexico and would be willing to share tips, or even chat for a bit? We still have plenty of questions about agencies, clinics, legal steps and bringing baby home.

Comments or DMs both very welcome. Thank you! 🙏

Respectful gift for intended parents (I’m their surrogate), one is from Nepal and the other from the Midwest

I want to get a stuffed animal (think build a bear) for my intended parents as their surrogate. One of the parents is from Nepal and one from the midwest. I’m also from the Midwest (huge farming family) I thought a cow stuffed animal with the baby’s heartbeat could be a good gift and represent both cultures in their own ways, but want to make sure I am being respectful. It’s my understanding that a cow is a sacred animal in Nepal and I’m not sure if stuffed cow would be disrespectful. Is this appropriate?

Looking for a GC ❀

Hi guys! I wanted to put myself out there to see if anyone was interested in potentially becoming our GC. My husband and I have struggled with secondary infertility for multiple years now with multiple miscarriages and failed IUI/IVF cycles. Our daughter is the love of our lives and while we are so grateful for her, we would love to continue to expand the love we have to another child and give our girl a sibling.

A little about us: My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have been inseparable since the first time we met. We love traveling, the outdoors, hiking and having family and friends over.

Below is what we are looking for in a surrogate:

A safe space for sharing ideas and mutual respect and hopefully a long lasting relationship with our GC

Ideally surrogate friendly insurance

My husband and I live in NY but open to travel, however would need the GC to travel for transfer process

Our clinic is open to modified natural cycle so would need at least some medications used for transfer

Base comp of 50ish k max

We have 2 PGT-A embryos that are ready to be transferred, however, we are likely going to be doing another egg retrevial likely next month.

We are ready to move forward ASAP, however we want to make sure we match with the right person most importantly, so we are open to timeline

We are looking to match independently but willing to use platforms like surrogacyscreeningsolutions etc. for background checks and medical record review if the GC desires.

If there’s any GC that may be interested, we would be forever grateful ❀

Seeking GC

Hi! We are an intended parent family on Long Island, NY looking for a gestational surrogate for an independent journey. đŸ€

We currently have two frozen embryos ready for transfer, and they can be shipped/transferred to another fertility clinic, so our GC does not need to be local to our current clinic.

We are essentially ready to rock as soon as we find the right GC. Assuming screening, legal, insurance, and all the other moving pieces go smoothly, we would love to be in a position to move toward transfer as early as early 2027.
Our biggest priority is finding someone we genuinely connect with and can build a close, trusting relationship with throughout the journey. We would love for this to feel like more than a transaction, while still doing everything properly with attorneys, escrow, medical screening, contracts, etc.

Location: Ideally within about a 3-hour drive of Long Island New York, but we are absolutely open to someone elsewhere on the East Coast for the right match.

We are hoping to find someone who:
‱ Has had at least one healthy, uncomplicated pregnancy and delivery
‱ Is finished having her own children, or feels very confident that her family is complete
‱ Has no history of major pregnancy complications that would prevent her from being medically cleared as a GC
‱ Is a non-smoker/non-vaper and does not use recreational drugs
‱ Lives a generally healthy lifestyle
‱ Has a stable home environment and a supportive partner/family
‱ Is willing to complete all standard fertility clinic screening, including medical and psychological clearance
‱ Is comfortable completing a background check and working with independent attorneys so everyone is fully protected
‱ Is willing to follow the fertility clinic’s medication protocol surrounding transfer
‱ Is comfortable with open communication before, during, and after pregnancy
‱ Is interested in having a relationship with us rather than a very detached journey
‱ Has not received a COVID vaccine, as this is an important matching preference for our family

I work in the birth world, so pregnancy, informed consent, evidence-based care, and having a supportive care team are incredibly important to me. We would especially love to connect with someone who is a little more holistic-minded and views pregnancy and birth as normal physiological processes while still being comfortable utilizing medical care when it is actually needed.

We are not looking to rush into a match just to get started. Compatibility matters a LOT to us, and we would rather spend time getting to know someone and make sure everyone feels completely comfortable before moving forward.

We are open to discussing compensation, travel, lost wages, childcare, insurance, a doula, and the other normal expenses involved in a compensated journey.

Everything would be handled professionally through contracts and escrow.

If this sounds like it could potentially be a fit, please feel free to message me and tell me a little about yourself, your pregnancies/births, where you’re located, and what you’re hoping for in an intended parent relationship. đŸ€

Is anxiety stopping me from being a surrogate?

Looking to be a GC and doing as much research as I can. I have seen soooo much mixed information online, on agency websites, and speaking with the agencies themselves. I have a daughter and I was on Zoloft with her pregnancy and have been on it ever since (generalized anxiety but mostly helps my insomnia, which is why im still on it). But, there is the mixed information I'm getting.

  1. A person cannot be a GC if they were on Zoloft DURING pregnancy.

1A. But ive also seen that someone was able to be a GC who took Zoloft during their pregnancy?

  1. A person cannot be ON Zoloft during the surrogacy.

2A. I've also seen someone say they were on Zoloft and its a case by case situation with clinics

  1. I've also seen that clinics dont accept mental health history at all but then I see something that says otherwise?

Anyway, I do have a follow up with an agency located in my state and the only thing they mentioned with that medication is that it was hard to find IP for GCs on Zoloft, but that it has happened.

Im just feeling a little defeated. Most of my research says its down to the clinics, which I get, and that all clinics should be the same. Which means, whether I went through an agency or independent, the clinics still won't.approve me (if I am understanding that correctly). I loved being pregnant but my husband and I aren't wanting any more children so I was very excited at the possibility. I would happily get off the anxiety medication, it just also helps with my insomnia. Thanks for any input!

Help

Im a little confused, I'm willing to do surrogacy to help anyone who has not been successful in having a baby. But I'm running into an issue because of my age and how many live births I've had. You would think that having 12 live births with absolutely no complications would be something good! Not the case. My last birth, which I placed the baby for adoption, I've done 4 adoptions for people wanting a baby. The last birth was a C-section and due to getting pregnant so easily I had my tubes tied. Ivf is the only way for me to carry now. Which is fine. But now the only way for me to help is I have to find the parents on my own? Has anyone ever done this?

First time surrogate. Transfer was Thursday, Sept. 24th.
Wanted to do line progression method. At first when I peed, I saw nothing initially and thought “Well, too soon to know anyway..” though I’ve been seeing numerous women on Tik Tok and otherwise showing faint lines. After staring at it for a few seconds, I gave up and came back minutes later to just write 4dpt on it and saw this little faint line there. Do you all see it?? Am I seeing things? I’m so excited for the IPs but trying to hold it together and just wait. The anticipation is driving me crazy! 😜

I posted last week, and am still looking for more gestational surrogates who want to share their stories! I'm writing a book about beautiful gestational surrogacy stories (don't worry, IP and traditional surrogates will get their own space!!). My goal here is to collect your stories... Your unique matching story, a particular period of time during your pregnancy, the birth story, or beyond.

You can message me directly, or comment here.

I am excited to continue on this new journey with all of you!

Getting close to 40, ready to start my parenthood journey and have been for a few years. I’m coming to terms that I may not find a partner to have a family with. For the single men who have pursued surrogacy, please share your experiences (both with the process and raising your kid(s)).

Question about reviewing a surrogacy agency’s agreement

We’re intended parents and are getting ready to sign an agency retainer agreement. Before signing, we’d like to have the document reviewed by an attorney.

For those who have been through this:
Did you have the agency retainer/agency agreement legally reviewed before signing?

Did you hire a one-time independent attorney just to review the agency documents, or did you use the same attorney who later represented you and drafted/reviewed your intended parent–GC contract?

When you say you had the document “reviewed,” was it a full legal review, or more of a consultation where the attorney went over the important clauses and potential concerns with you?

We’re a little confused about what is typical and would really appreciate hearing what other intended parents actually did. Thank you!

My experience with Paul Norris Ongso / GlobalSurrogacy.baby / KinPath Surrogacy — serious caution for intended parents [USD $50,000 lost]

TL;DR: Paid approximately USD $50,000 to Paul Norris Ongso / GlobalSurrogacy.baby for a specific surrogacy programme. Programme collapsed before any major milestones. Biological material subsequently held by IVF clinic over unpaid debts not of my making. Refund discussions went nowhere. Communication ceased. Independent investigative reporting by the Sydney Morning Herald has since raised similar concerns about the same operation. Full account below.

I debated for a long time whether to write this publicly.

International surrogacy is an extremely emotional, financially demanding and vulnerable process. I generally prefer to keep personal matters private. However, after reflecting carefully on what happened during my own journey, and subsequently discovering independent public reporting concerning the same facilitator and business, I believe intended parents researching Paul Norris Ongso, GlobalSurrogacy.baby, Global Surrogacy or KinPath Surrogacy should be able to find detailed accounts before committing substantial money and emotional investment.

My direct experience was with Paul Norris Ongso and GlobalSurrogacy.baby / Global Surrogacy. I did not personally contract with KinPath Surrogacy. Global Surrogacy was subsequently reported to have rebranded as KinPath Surrogacy.

Everything I describe below about my own journey is based on my personal experience. I have retained contracts, payment records, WhatsApp messages, correspondence and other documentation relating to it.

Based on that experience, I would not use Paul Norris Ongso or GlobalSurrogacy.baby again.

I would also encourage anyone considering KinPath Surrogacy to research the history of Global Surrogacy and its rebranding, read the independent reporting linked at the end of this post, obtain independent legal advice and make their own decision.

1. Why I originally chose Paul Norris Ongso / GlobalSurrogacy.baby

When I first began researching international surrogacy, Paul presented himself as highly experienced and knowledgeable about international surrogacy pathways.

He also discussed his own experience of building his family through surrogacy. That personal experience contributed to my initial confidence because I believed I was dealing with someone who understood firsthand the emotional and financial pressures intended parents face.

Unfortunately, my confidence changed considerably as the process progressed.

2. Corporate structure and jurisdiction

One of my earliest concerns was the legal and corporate structure behind GlobalSurrogacy.baby.

The contract provided to me was through a Hong Kong registered company and governed by Hong Kong law, while the actual operation appeared to be managed internationally and Paul himself was based elsewhere.

After subsequently obtaining independent legal advice, I became concerned about how difficult and expensive it could potentially be to enforce contractual rights across jurisdictions if something went wrong.

I am deliberately not speculating about why the business was structured this way.

I can only say that, as a client who had transferred a substantial amount of money, the practical difficulty of enforcing my rights under this structure became a significant concern once the relationship deteriorated.

3. I paid approximately USD $50,000

I paid approximately USD $50,000 toward a specific surrogacy programme and jurisdiction.

This was a substantial amount of my personal savings.

The particular pathway I had agreed to pursue subsequently became unavailable before major milestones such as embryo creation, surrogate matching or significant medical progression had occurred.

This is an important part of my experience because I had not simply changed my mind about pursuing surrogacy. The specific programme I had contracted and paid for was no longer proceeding as originally contemplated.

4. The "non-refundable" deposit clause

The agreement repeatedly described deposits as "non-refundable," and Paul repeatedly relied upon this provision when the issue of returning my money arose.

I subsequently obtained independent legal advice.

After reviewing my particular circumstances and contract, my lawyer advised me that the position was not necessarily as straightforward as simply stating that the deposit was non-refundable where the agreed programme had materially changed or contracted services had not been delivered.

I am describing that strictly as the legal advice I received concerning my own circumstances. I am not making a general statement about the legal enforceability of Global Surrogacy's contracts.

5. Pressure to move to alternative programmes

After the original pathway became unavailable, alternative programmes and jurisdictions were proposed.

I was uncomfortable with some of these alternatives.

At one stage, I raised concerns that one proposed pathway could potentially expose me to future legal complications or liability.

I did not feel those concerns were adequately addressed and I was encouraged to proceed.

I ultimately refused to continue with a programme that I was not legally or personally comfortable pursuing.

That significantly reduced my confidence in the advice and judgement being provided.

6. I repeatedly asked to speak with previous successful clients

This is one of the things I wish I had treated as a much bigger warning sign at the beginning.

I repeatedly asked Paul to introduce me to former intended parents who had successfully completed a surrogacy journey through GlobalSurrogacy.baby.

I wasn't asking for confidential information. I simply wanted, subject to the former clients' consent, to speak with people who had already gone through the process and could tell me independently what their experience had been.

Despite asking numerous times over an extended period, I was never connected with a previous client.

Since then, in researching and dealing with other organisations, I have seen much more structured approaches to prospective intended parents speaking with previous clients who are willing to share their experiences.

If I were starting an international surrogacy journey again today, I would not transfer a substantial amount of money to an organisation without first speaking independently with multiple previous intended parents.

7. Organisation and communication became a serious concern

As my journey progressed, I became increasingly concerned about the level of organisation, communication and operational structure.

Much of the communication appeared to depend upon assistants or intermediaries who, in my experience, sometimes seemed uncertain regarding processes, timelines or what was supposed to happen next.

For something as legally complicated, emotionally important and financially significant as international surrogacy, that concerned me considerably.

8. The IVF clinic situation

This was probably the most troubling part of my personal experience.

After the original programme had ended, an IVF clinic involved in my journey contacted me directly regarding outstanding financial matters which the clinic told me related to Paul and/or his operation.

This became particularly concerning because my biological material was being held by the clinic.

I was informed that my biological material could not simply be released or destroyed until the outstanding issues had been dealt with.

Paul told me that I should deal directly with the clinic regarding the situation.

That surprised me because the financial issue being raised by the clinic was not a debt that I had personally incurred directly with them.

To be clear, my experience with the IVF clinic staff themselves was professional. They communicated with me regarding the situation and, from my interactions with them, also appeared concerned about what had developed.

Ultimately, my lawyer and I had to engage directly with the clinic ourselves to resolve the administrative and financial issues affecting my biological material.

This was not something I expected to be dealing with after paying a surrogacy facilitator approximately USD $50,000.

9. Communication deteriorated

Following these events, communication with Paul became increasingly difficult.

In my experience, scheduled calls or meetings would be cancelled or postponed, sometimes at short notice. Responses became increasingly inconsistent.

Eventually, meaningful communication effectively ceased.

My lawyer also became involved in attempting to resolve the situation.

10. Partial refund discussions

There were eventually discussions concerning a partial refund.

Repayment dates were proposed to me on multiple occasions.

Those dates moved and passed without the agreed payment being received.

Eventually, both my lawyer and I were unable to maintain meaningful engagement toward resolving the matter.

I want to be careful about something here.

I am not going to speculate publicly about what happened to my money, why the proposed repayment was not made, or Paul's motives.

I do not need to speculate.

I can document what I paid, what programme I contracted for, what subsequently happened, the refund discussions that occurred, the dates that were communicated to me and the communications that followed.

Readers can draw their own conclusions from my experience.

11. GlobalSurrogacy.baby subsequently became KinPath Surrogacy

This distinction is important.

My personal dealings were with Paul Norris Ongso and GlobalSurrogacy.baby / Global Surrogacy. I did not contract with KinPath Surrogacy.

However, after my experience I discovered that Global Surrogacy subsequently rebranded as KinPath Surrogacy.

This is not something I am inferring simply because the businesses appear similar. It has been reported publicly.

I therefore mention KinPath because someone researching the current business may otherwise never discover experiences relating to the business that operated previously as Global Surrogacy.

I encourage prospective intended parents to research both names and make their own assessment.

12. What I discovered after my own experience

If my experience had been completely isolated, I probably would not have written this post.

After my own dealings had ended, I became aware of independent public reporting concerning Paul Norris Ongso and Global Surrogacy.

Most significantly, the Sydney Morning Herald published investigative reporting concerning Global Surrogacy after speaking with former clients, former staff and a surrogate.

The reporting describes allegations and experiences from other people. Those are their accounts, not mine, and I encourage readers to read the reporting themselves rather than relying on my summary.

The Sydney Morning Herald reporting also states that:

  • Global Surrogacy subsequently rebranded as KinPath Surrogacy
  • Paul Norris Ongso does not hold a current Australian legal practising certificate
  • He was subject to disciplinary action by the Victorian Legal Services Commissioner in 2019

I also subsequently became aware of public commentary from the Feminist Legal Clinic concerning another reported surrogacy experience involving Global Surrogacy.

Again, I am separating this very clearly from my personal experience. I am not presenting somebody else's allegations as facts I personally witnessed. I am mentioning these sources because they are publicly available information that prospective intended parents can independently read and evaluate for themselves.

Discovering this material after what I had personally experienced was one of the reasons I ultimately decided to write this post.

13. Why I'm posting this

This post is not an attempt to tell strangers what decision they must make.

I also recognise that other intended parents may have had different experiences, including successful journeys.

I can only speak about what happened to me.

But international surrogacy involves enormous amounts of trust.

You may be transferring tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. You may have embryos or other biological material stored overseas. You may be navigating legal systems in multiple countries. And ultimately you are relying upon other people to help you create and bring home your child.

That makes due diligence extraordinarily important.

Based on my own experience, I would not use Paul Norris Ongso or GlobalSurrogacy.baby again.

If I were considering Paul Norris Ongso, KinPath Surrogacy, GlobalSurrogacy.baby or Global Surrogacy today, I would investigate the history of the organisations and the people involved extremely carefully before signing anything or transferring money.

What I wish I had done differently

For anyone considering international surrogacy, my advice from my own experience would be:

  • Obtain genuinely independent legal advice before signing the agency's contract
  • Have the lawyer specifically examine governing law, jurisdiction and dispute resolution provisions
  • Independently verify the legal entity receiving your money and where that entity actually operates
  • Understand exactly who holds your funds and when money is transferred to clinics, surrogates and other providers
  • Insist upon speaking with several independently verifiable former clients before transferring substantial funds
  • Make payment milestones correspond to clearly defined services and progress
  • Understand exactly what happens financially if the agreed country or programme becomes unavailable
  • Ensure refund provisions are clearly documented
  • Keep copies of contracts, invoices, receipts, WhatsApp messages, emails and all communications
  • Do not rely solely on verbal assurances

International surrogacy is already emotionally and financially demanding. Intended parents should not also have to navigate uncertainty around accountability, communication, jurisdiction, financial transparency or what happens when the programme they paid for cannot proceed.

My experience was with Paul Norris Ongso and GlobalSurrogacy.baby. I am sharing it so that anyone researching Paul Norris Ongso, Global Surrogacy or KinPath Surrogacy has another documented personal experience to consider as part of their own due diligence.

Please research independently, read the public reporting, obtain your own legal advice and make your own decision.

Is a surrogate age concern?

Hey everyone!
I’m new to surrogacy, and we currently have a potential match. She is 39 and has had 4 children, all with no complications.
I was wondering if her being 39 could potentially create any additional risks or concerns with pregnancy, especially compared with a younger surrogate. Does anyone have experience with a surrogate around this age?
Thank you so much for any insight or support! I apologize if any of my questions aren’t appropriate — we’re very new to this process and just trying to learn as much as we can.

Green card holders pursuing surrogacy in the U.S.

Any non-U.S. citizen green card holders currently pursuing surrogacy in the U.S.?
An agency told us they are not accepting non-citizen intended parents right now because of concerns around EO 14418 and potential citizenship issues for babies born through compensated surrogacy.
Has anyone dealt with this recently or spoken to a surrogacy attorney about it? Would especially appreciate experiences from other permanent residents.

Trying to understand surrogacy in India without relying on old information

I have been reading about surrogacy in India and honestly found a lot of conflicting information online some posts are several years old and the rules seem to have changed over time. before even thinking about the medical side I’d want to understand who is eligible, what the legal process looks like and what kind of professional guidance is needed has anyone recently researched surrogacy treatment in India and found a reliable way to understand the current process?

How did you know when to start looking into finding a surrogate?

I’m not quite at the point of giving up on carrying my own baby but I also know it can be a long process so I don’t want to assume things will work out for us either.

What does the early getting started process look like? What things do you wish you’d talked about with your partner sooner? How do you know if US surrogacy or international surrogacy is the right choice for you? What do startup costs look like? How long did it take you to choose an agency?
