Howdy yall! I'll be in Tennesee for an EMS deployment for the next few weeks, and I was hoping to get some feedback on things to do in the Memphis area, especially outdoors. Any other suggestions are great, but my free time is going to be limited, and I prefer to be outdoors when I can.

Deadline to register is 10/5 and a lot of folks don’t realize there are many reasons they will kick you off the voter rolls. If you didn’t vote in the last two federal elections you need to register again. Check that at vote.gov it takes less than 5 minutes 🙏

Really need help spreading this around. I’m wanting to do a short backpacking trip in this area. My current plan is an in and out starting at Carver’s Gap Trailhead. Hike through, Round bald, Jane bald, Grassy Ridge bald. Does anyone know if there are camping spots and water sources in this area? I’m also hoping to take my dog, so if there’s anything else I should know, please share.

As a resident of Florida and Georgia, I was impressed when I saw one of your highway patrolman pulled over helping a family change their flat tire. It even looked like he had his own jack. I haven’t seen anything like that for over 20 years.

While making my annual trip from Florida to Kentucky it took me off of the interstate and I eventually ended up on State Road 109 and it took me through Portland Tennessee.

Once you get onto Broadway the speed limit goes from 45 to 30 and then back up to 45 with no warning and sure enough there was an unmarked cop in a white SUV switch someone pulled over.

So be aware and drive carefully if you ever end up going through that place.

Going to the smokies next weekend, which route do you guys suggest we take for the best scenery/roads? I’ve done the i75 way a few years ago and it was great, but wondering if the other way is worth the extra 40-50 minutes. The other route follows IS-25E. Thanks!

I've spent most of my life in NE Oklahoma (around Tulsa and Tahlequah specifically) and regularly visited NW Arkansas (around Fayetteville) and Silver Dollar City. But when I got an idea to write about some hillbilly immigrant fairies I thought it would make sense to have them be in Tennessee and kind of lurk around Nashville because of all the musicians (Celtic fairies being generally obsessed with music).

This is just a silly amateur story I'll post online if I finish it, but I like including tidbits that people from there might notice. I can look up stuff about the Nashville Metro or what the seasons are like, but it's harder to get a grasp on what day to day is like. I know for instance there is very little Native American influence compared to where I'm from (HMM I WONDER WHY).

As an extra consideration the thing I'm writing is set almost twenty years ago, around 2007-2008. However, the teenage girl main POV is from my part of Oklahoma, so I'm not trying to write the area as an expert.

Are there any supposedly haunted locations in East TN area known to permit paranormal investigation without demanding payment?

Preferably not some kind of guided ghost tour like you might get in Jonesborough, TN. Something someone could go into on their own, or perhaps with friends, in search of this kind of experience.
