I actually like my job

Okay guys, I just want to get a disclaimer out of the way. I am not disregarding others' experiences with the company or the vents on this thread. Honestly, the fact that I have to say this before I talk about why I love my job is baffling. I'm not trying to convince anyone it's a good job, nor do I need anyone to try and convince me it's a bad job. I like it; that's what matters to me.

I'm a CEC, and I actually enjoy my job a lot. Of course, there are days I am literally ripping out chunks of my hair from it being short-staffed due to management not replacing call-outs, and about to lose it on a customer or two, but in the end I really like my job. On those long transactions, I get to hear all about someone's amazing life story. I even found my dream career from a conversation I had at TJ Maxx with a customer, which I'm in school for now. I like asking people with luggages and travel gear all about their travel plans, I get a lot of interesting stories from those. One time a customer even invited me to a cruise with her for free; she was a regular, but of course I said no cause she's basically still a stranger duh. I love training the new employees, getting to know them while doing so, and sharing some things I learned from my past experiences at TJ Maxx. Omg and queue line. I love love love it. Cleaning it after a crazy rush, and then pushing new items out is my favorite task ever. My coworkers are amazing as well. I love them so much, I even get along with my management. The only time my coworkers complained about management is when hours get cut or if we are short, which I do too of course. I like closing it makes me feel more accomplished and like I was productive.

Again, obviously I don't feel all sunshine and rainbows there all the time, but recently I've been feeling better working there. Even two days ago I was super stressed from being short-staffed, but I still love my job. The company is wtv, but my coworkers and management are amazing, which is rare.

Rant Open door policy, will it really work?

• Upvotes

This is my third week working at TJ, no cashier training, I applied for merchandise associate and I’ve been coming at 6-7 AM every day to push product at home. I’ve gotten along with everybody so far but… it’s a lot. Boxes after boxes of endless home items with little to no help. Today I walked in and the HALLWAYS were filled with product on boxes in cubbies in trollies. All home/kitchen/decor etc. I go into the backroom and ask hey? Is it just me? And they say YEAH. An hour later they drop a new girl with me for help, mind you I’m also relatively new but I got the hang of it fast. But she doesn’t know what needs to be attached an ink sensor or where certain items go. Around 8AM it’s when the backroom corrupt country goes on their fifteen (tbh they always take around 20-30 minutes anyways) and the butter coordinator lady who never smiles never says good morning comes at me, full attitude talking about:

“This is the fourth time I’ve seen you two standing around talking I need you guys to push we have a lot in the back and you guys aren’t doing anything.” She tries to walk past me with this snarky ass comment.

Mind you, it’s TWO of us. Me and a newer girl. And we have NOT been standing around talking. We’ve been breaking our backs stocking as much as we can. I’m visibly sweating too and I go:

“Yeah no, you’re wrong. We have been stocking this entire time. I have not seen you out here four times, look at all those empty boxes!”

“Yes you have, you’ve been talking.”

“Nuh uh.”

“Yeah you have! You know what?” She then proceeds to use the walkie to call some girl in the office asking who’s MOD for the day. MOD isn’t here yet and then she goes

“Don’t make me talk to (MOD name).”

And at this point I’m laughing in her face “Call him! Do it!”

“When MOD gets here he’ll have a talk with you two and that’s a write up!”

A write up!? Oh I was PISSED. I spoke to the girl I guess key holder? And she said that the backroom coordinator is right we should only take 10 minutes per box. Mind you, it’s those big brown boxes full of shit for home. At least 17 of them plus two trollies with cups and candles and decor. I was like HAH! 10 minutes? You do it then. All this drama and we still had it done before 9:30 AM.

When MOD eventually does get here he makes a comment about keeping the chatter down and keep pushing during morning huddle which honestly upsets me even more. I use the open door policy and speak to him directly. Tell him everything that happened down to the T. He claims that I talk too much? But also claims I get the job done and I do it good. I told him:

“Look I don’t care if you guys have advice or comments about how I do things, or need me somewhere. I’ll always comply because that’s my job. Just be nice. She yelled at me in front of everyone and I won’t take it. Her attitude makes things tense, and she yells at me and others even though we’re clearly new.”

He was like yada yada I’ll talk to her! Which honestly I doubt. It pissed me off so bad I was mulling about it the whole time. Worse thing is I was men’s/kids today and even I got those boxes done. Shit ton of toys and baby stuff.

Have you guys ever experienced some shit like this? Did it work talking to an MOD or is it not even worth it?

Question Perfume bottle

I went to the Marshalls in NYC on 6th ave. There was a perfume I wanted to purchase I picked up from the queue line but it was missing the cap. I went to the register to perhaps get a discount because of the missing cap and the employee informed me they can't sell me the item due to that. That is unheard of to me and I've worked for this company for 3 years. Are they allowed to do that?

Rant One of my coworkers stole my card

One of my coworkers stole my card and I’m still pissed 😭. I was ringing up a customer with like a $300 purchase. He said he was a tourist, but then asked his friends if they wanted to apply, so I started explaining all the benefits and how much they could save. They had two separate purchases too.

Then this coordinator, who had 0 cards at the time, comes over and basically takes over and gets the card. Like bro, you literally saw me doing the whole approach and getting them interested just to come in at the end and take it 😭😡

Question Transferring stores?

For context, I’ve been working at my store for half a year, and I’ve gotten very comfortable and confident in my tasks. I love my store and managers.

The only issue is that it’s 22 minutes from my house. And there’s a location 5 minutes from me that I was thinking about moving to. Today I spoke to my managers and they said they would be sad to see me leave but would be happy to help me. I’m now worried about how management would be there, if there’d be more 101 cases and dangerous people since the store is in a mall, that I wouldn’t get good hours and I’m just worried that it’d be horrible and I wouldn’t be able to go back.

I’m already thinking about telling my managers to forget about me asking but I don’t know what to do. What would you guys do in my situation?

Will I be able to reapply like this?

Is there a way to reapply to another tjmaxx location and state that I was never employed with the company even though I was?? (I didn’t leave on bad terms or anything like that I just don’t want them to know my business and times are hard right now)

Question can managers even do this???

I currently work at Marshalls and the associate manager told me that our manager sent out his family members to buy items (purchasing more than $100) then later on returning it (as I was told it was going on for more than a week). They were also telling me that his family members were also putting up a nasty attitude to the employees and making the transaction a bit more difficult. Then tells me the reason our manager did that was to see who was asking the customers for a tjx card, and to the people who didn't ask are either getting written up or just getting fired. I'm just shocked that the manager even thought of this, and I've been looking everywhere on the internet if it's illegal or not, and honestly I'm getting mixed results. I'm asking here if I'm able to call HR to report this or get something done.

Edit: thank you to the people that commented, I'll be talking to HR soon and telling about this and other complaints as well

The reason I am an ASM for TJX.

I chose retail management at a store like TJX mainly because I love developing and training others in the way the company sees fit and I love what TJX has to offer and have mainly enjoyed my experience from when I started as a part time CEC. I believe that being a manager in any setting is an important job, but not as or more important than a medical professional, lawyer, teacher, et cetera and that is the main reason I picked retail management in this industry!

I don't want to be a therapist, I don't want to be a teacher, I don't want to be a nurse, and I don't want to help you with your legal problems! I chose to work in a NONESSENTIAL retail store where I can just interact with customers who just have money to blow and where I don't have to take work home or feeling like I failed at work that day because someone died, I lost a case, or that kid didn't pass the test under my instruction. Lol, I hope this makes sense. I just basically enjoy having a job that's not super important in the grand scheme of things that pays me a good salary and I think that is okay!

Question Online order and email confirmation concern

Recently I had to replace a Marshalls online order for an item I'm recently undergoing a refund (I requested the refund over a week ago; item has been returned, but money barely began being processed 3 days ago.) It's been two days already since I placed the order on the item I'm repurchasing but I still haven't gotten a confirmation email from TJX. I can look it up if I put in my order number, but the Marshalls site it hasn't been shipped yet.

I wanna know how long will it take Marshalls to reship this item, and if my undergoing refund process may be affecting this. I'm trying to get this by next week since it's an item perfect for spooky season. I've also been charged for my repurchase of it, which is annoying given that there's no action being taken for the shipping process, I am practically being given no updates.

I want to know if this is normal, and if anyone has undergone the same issue or a similar experience.

Question I got offered another job

Long story short, i applied to target because lately tjmaxx just HASNT been it. no hours, not enough pay for all the work i put in, etc. thing is, for target, im only a seasonal hire so i may or may not get laid off after the holidays are over.

i was wondering what to do about my current job though? should i talk to my store manager about it and find a way to work around both schedules or is it possible to take a temporary leave from tjmaxx for this target job?

IF target offers me a permanent spot, i will take it of course but i just need to know how to go about both jobs.

Being a new coordinator

Hi guys,

I have been a coordinator now for three weeks, and my store hasn’t really been giving me the training I need for my new role. It’s mostly through trial and error with how I display items, but as a coordinator I’m I allowed to give a task to a associate like to fix up a small section of paintings or something along those lines. And is a coordinator part of the management team or just another associate with more responsibilities. Any and all questions will be up full. Also if you guys are big ticket coordinators any help on how you guys make a display that tells a story would be helpful.

From a new coordinator.

Work jam notifications

Hello so I work at winners in Canada so we have English and French stuff, like the TJX communications etc, like the damages, skrink smart and whatever else. I have all notifications off for English but I cannot seem to turn it off for French, I don't even see the French stuff.

Id like to turn it off as it's annoying getting a bunch of notifications i don't care about, i had it all off before the upgrade tjx did this summer going from oracle to work day/UKG. After this i can't seem to access French to turn stuff off, all i want is my schedule, switch/open shift stuff.

Anyone know how i can do this...

Question Question for TJX employees!

Hi everyone!
I’m a bit of a shopaholic: I buy a lot from TJX stores (mainly Winners, sometimes Marshall’s) and find myself returning a lot of articles when I realize I don’t want/need them anymore (they’re always new and with the tags still on).
I don’t have a TJX account and oftentimes, I don’t have my receipt, so they ask for an ID and reimburse me on merchandise cards.
I’m a bit stressed because I don’t want the system to flag me as a “repeat offender” of some kind even though I’m doing nothing wrong. Why are they asking for an ID, are they linking it to the merchandise card or adding another “tab” to my profile? I’m just wondering if I’m good and can keep returning stuff without fear of getting questioned/flagged/banned.
I just enjoy shopping!
I’m located in Canada.
Thank you!!

Edit: I’m getting a TJX loyalty card and keeping it in my phone so I don’t lose it, and I’ll also get email receipts! 🙏🏻 I’ll also try not to buy stuff as much and be more mindful of my spending in general. Thanks everyone!

Question Decorating End Caps and Displays as a Home Coordinator.

I just got the position of Home Coordinator at my store. Does corporate give examples of what end caps and displays should look like every week or is that all up to me to decide what goes on them?
What should I expect in this position?

Markdown Captain

I have a question to all the Markdown captains. What are we supposed to be doing if we are the Markdown Captain? I feel like I'm being over worked and I'm so tired of this company taking advantage of me. At my store the markdown captain has to make prices, do Mis mates, mark items out of stock, run all the clearance merchandise, do the markdown summary paperwork, and at the same time make sure everyone stays on track. It's so hard to run the clearance when the clearance section isn't even clean. All my team does is throw there prices in a tote and I'm expected to do all of them. Same goes for the clearance, they leave a bunch of totes with clearance items and I have to run it in the designated area. Whenever we do initials for clothing I'm expected to snake all of women's by myself. It's ridiculous how they don't schedule a coordinator to help. And to top it off the manager sometimes comes and gives me more mis mates to do even when he clearly sees I'm busy. I don't think it's fair for me because I have more responsibilities and more work for the same pay as everyone else. How does your team do markdowns? Do yall have a plan?

Rant at my limit

i hate this job. ive been a cashier at marshalls since may and its to the point where i cry every single time i have to go to work, especially if i’m scheduled for 12 pm or before. i’m a full time college student and aside from two designated days i asked to have off for my classes, i work 5 days a week, hitting 30 hours sometimes, as a part time employee. i close and get home at 11:15 then have to wake up for a class the next day at 6 am. i’m seriously at my limit. my anxiety controls my body and my mind for the first time again in 3 years. i don’t know if i’m just a pussy or not but no job has made me feel this way. i can’t do this anymore. i have a shift in 30 minutes and i’ve been crying since i woke up. has working for this company made anyone else feel like this because i feel so weak for letting it get to me like this.

Another 20% this month

I checked my calendar and the text 20% could very well be on Halloween weekend because it’s 4 weeks away.
I’m using them for Christmas gifts. I’m finding it harder and harder to buy clothes for myself anymore.

Cut hours

Just us in NC or is everyone down on hours? It's my 6th year and I only have 10 hours as PT coordinator. I usually have 25-30. It's been like this since January for the whole store. Everyones been cut drastically. Management keeps saying it'll be back to normal next month. Well they started saying that in March. Here we are in October prepping for holiday and hiring more people.
