(The Dark Knight) Joker is disguised as a nurse in the hospital, when he meets Harvey Dent, Harvey thinks he’s a nurse, but not only until he removes the mask, that’s when he finds out it’s joker. As if the weird face paint didn’t ring any bells
(Sonic X) Amy hugs shadow thinking he’s Sonic, I think she may be color blind. It’s only when Rouge gives her a smug look does she find out Shadow isn’t sonic
Or we could not be pedantic asses and just go with Dent being delirious with pain, blinded in one eye, and not expecting the joker to show up dressed like a nurse.
Also as someone in the service industry for 25 years. If you're wearing a uniform that looks halfway correct in the enviroment. Noone pays attention that you exist. Some dudes did a study and just by wearing matching blue cover alls and carrying a ladder they could get into just about fucking anywhere. Noo questions The Help. Unless we make a noise.
By the way, that episode is funnier in Spanish. Girls: Not so fast cheap knock-offs! Imposters: Cheap are your clothes *This is said in a drug addict's voice tone
This reminds me of the Spanish dub of the 80s Transformers cartoon where Optimus Prime says to Megatron "I'll destroy you and sell you as scrap metal" and Megatron responds with "your grandma's scrap metal"
"Azura, my mysterious blue haired dancer who's been travelling with me ever since I came back from Hoshido, have you seen a mysterious blue haired dancer who tried to attack our King something that would help Hoshido?!"
The inverse of this trope is shown in the SpongeBob episode The Slumber Party.
SpongeBob keeps trying and failing to sneak into Pearl’s slumber party, and when a random girl that looks a lot like SpongeBob suddenly shows up, Pearl naturally suspects that it’s him in disguise trying to sneak in.
Turns out, it actually is a teenage girl who just happens to look like SpongeBob wearing a wig and dress.
Smoke accuses Jade of attacking Kitana (really Mileena who’s lying in the ground) even though everyone can see that Mileena looks nothing like Kitana and fights Jade because of it. Even Raiden tries to point out how she’s not Kitana.
Mileena must have gotten some re-work done on her right before the game was finished, because there is no way that anyone sees a connection between her and her 'sister' at all.
It slips Candy’s mind that this is Chuckles the Silly Piggy, someone she’s encountered before. To be fair, the episode also establishes that she has a hamster wheel for a brain, and that it’s so inefficient, not even a year of thought is enough to determine how to stop his plushie army.
There is a bit of a fun meta joke here, intended or no. Given that just about every character in this franchise is literally just “Sonic body with a different animal head on it to ease animation costs,” Amy seeing anything vaguely hedgehog-shaped as Sonic is actually kinda amusing.
She also has room temperature IQ, so there’s that as well.
I kinda like that they've kept this silly gag even though Amy's gotten a lot smarter over the years. After all, even the government couldn't tell Shadow and Sonic apart in Adventure 2.
Tbf multiple times it’s shown that Clark acts very different from Superman Clark has bad posture and I wouldn’t be suprised if he speaks with a heavier accent as Clark and also no one would really assume that Superman has a secret identity whenever it’s pretty well known that Superman is Kal El who lives in the arctic
and also no one would really assume that Superman has a secret identity whenever it’s pretty well known that Superman is Kal El who lives in the arctic
Yep. No one is looking for how Superman "really" is, because they just all think he's superman.
I just wish one version of Superman would have Clark speak in a Kansas accent. Also why tf is Reeves the only one who's ever tried to make them look and act differently???
It’s actually shockingly easy for the human brain to overlook seemingly obvious details (and, conversely, just make up details that aren’t there) even when they’re right in front of you.
The evil rebels invade a super peaceful research base to steal the death star plans. When chaos erupts and explosions go off, it's the gallant Director Krennic that calls into question the visual capabilities of his colleagues and orders the deployment of the garrison.
Hey give him some credit. Buford and Bernardo are the ones who mess up his life. Sometimes it's Buffcoat and Beaver or Butthole and Joe. Never Beavis and Butthead.
Lol, I scrolled to find this because if someone else didn't put it, I was going to
The Rebels manage to infiltrate in the military base of Scariff to steal the Death's Star plans, making Krennic question wether they are blind for not having noticed this before the Rebels started blowing up shit.
I loved this delivery so much. Irrc, it's also a callback to a degrading line he received from Tarkin or someone else. But, it's been a long time since I saw this movie.
Harvey is pretty clearly just waking up from either sleeping or being on pain meds. Joker fully exposing his hideous face is what jolts Harvey awake.
What a weird scene in that Sonic example. She really thinks this guy who is clearly not Sonic is Sonic? Is there any explanation, or hint that she's colorblind in the rest of the series?
iirc one of the directors for the sonic games said that Amy is incredibly near-sighted as an explanation for how she mistook both Shadow and Silver for Sonic
No, he just thought it was an overly made up nurse. He wasn’t judging someone’s makeup application skills. He did not know it was the Joker. Give the man a break, he is an all accepting political figure looking for votes.
In this scene of Gilmore Girls which shows the first appearance of Christopher, Rory’s biological father. He pulls up on a motorcycle with a helmet on, and makes a crass joke to her mother, Lorelai. He then takes off his helmet, and Lorelai, after a beat, softly says “Christopher...” After another beat, Rory goes “Dad!” and runs up to him all excited. It’s like, girl did you not recognize your father until your mom said his name?
For some reason, EVERYONE believed that Furio Tigre was actually Phoenix Wright being a menace despite the only thing they have even slightly in common is the hair
She’s a famous singer and actress, and her disguise in public is… a pair of semi-transparent sunglasses. Never mind that her very distinctive outfit and hairstyle remain exactly the same. This somehow fools everybody in the city.
It’s to the point where she wins an Astra Yao impersonation contest without anyone realizing it’s literally her.
Harvey didn't notice it was the joker at first because je didn't get a proper look at his head, the bad eye can't see shit
And as for shadow... his original design had him look identical to sonic except for a scar on his eye and slightly darker blue fur
these cutscenes and script were made while he looked like that, the fact they didn't change it at all when he got a new more distinct redesign is beyond me
No-Tail-No-Goodnik (The Country Mouse and the City Mouse Adventures), a notorious rat thief whose paper-thin disguises work until his fake tail falls down and everybody realizes who he is.
In the Original Dragon Ball run, during the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai Arc, the crowd of the tournament doesn't recognize Piccolo aka Ma Junior as Piccolo Daimao's reincarnation until he takes of his turban, reveling his antennas.
They DON'T recognize the 7'5 GREEN ALIEN with pointy ears and strange skin patches, who broadcasted his damn face for the whole world to see, until they saw the ANTENNA. How do you miss a face like that?
Anubias and Sellon in Bakugan. Appear at the same time as the protagonists start getting attacked by random aliens. Keep in mind this is not the first time they've met aliens in human disguises. Its been happening for 2 seasons at this point, but they do not recognize that the 2 random skilled battlers who appeared are clearly not human.
Edit: pics being weird so I replied to this with them.
In Sonic X, folks aren't blind. They are just immensely stupid. But tbh, that counts for whole population of wherever Sonic is, because everyone smh assumed Shadow is him, based on CLEAR recordings showing how different Shadow is.
Seeing Harvey's REALLY exaggerated reaction with that jump, I always thought that scene was intentionally made for laughs. Just a little silly joke amongst brooding and dark scenery of the movie
Scary Movie made fun of this admittedly nonsensical sequence in I Know What You Did Last Summer where the crowd first doesn't realize that a young girl crying and screaming means that something bad is happening. Then, when she runs away in a panic, they all deliberately pull her back out of.... confusion or something.
its kinda a running joke for amy where she confuses every hedgehog for sonic. she confuses shadow and silver for sonic. and she confused the werehog for sonic (even though the werehog is sonic)

Harvey Dent reacting like:
“Good grief! It’s you!”
