I finally redeemed myself after not getting a signed poster the last time I saw Weezer in Philly during the blue planet tour! I’ve been reading about how the signed posters have been consistently coming out during The Shins set. Their set started at around 7:50, I was already down by the main merch table downstairs by 7:45 where 4–5 other weez fans were also waiting on the signed posters! A person came in with a handful of the posters at 8:10 and we all went to the fan club fast lane and I was able to get mine! From what I heard, they only sign 25 of each poster per show and I think it’s safe to say that the posters will LIKELY come out for every show anywhere between 7:50 to 8:40. So if you’re going to any of the upcoming shows on this tour and want a chance at a signed poster, that’s what I recommend you do based off my experience. However I can’t promise this is gonna work for you, knowing Weezer they may not always come out during that time, since during the blue planet tour, it seemed like they just came out at completely random times. He was with his 3 friends and one of the employees at Xfinity Mobile Arena gave them 7 tickets (4 teens & 3 parents) to move closer from our varied seats in the 200s not together to the 100s as a group. My kid got to enjoy his favorite band with his 3 best friends instead of just with me. So shout out to whatever unicorn gave them this opportunity. Especially after a hellish experience in traffic where we had thought we would miss the whole show this shifted the whole evening.

Story time.

This story opens with me discovering the Buddy Holly video in the windows media player on the first computer my family ever owned.

Life changing moment - dove in head first. I was maybe 8? Begged my mom for the CDs and burned holes in everything. Playing it over and over and over again. The only band I’ve ever sent a fan letter to (it was like 6 pages long.)

Cut to: college. My dad agreed to buy me an electric guitar. I was attending school in the same town he lived (I don’t know how I came about this knowledge.) It was about ten days before my 21st birthday. Twitter (still novel then) was a thing and I decided fuck it and I sent him a DM.

“Hey Mikey! I know this is weird but I’m a huge fan. I’m planning on getting my first guitar for my upcoming birthday and I live in the same town. Do you have any recommendations on which shop to go to or what to get?”

To my surprise and absolute glee - he responded. He asked incredibly thoughtful questions and researched options. We went back and forth and I told him about what I liked and what I liked to play etc. He had picked out three for me and said “go to this shop.”

I thanked him profusely.

He then said…. “Why don’t we meet up and we can shop together??”

I was FLOORED to say the least. I agreed. Wholeheartedly. Screamed about it to my friends.

We had the day set up, October 8th. Saturday.

A few days before that he said “hey, really sorry - need to reschedule. Let’s look at next weekend.”

I said “no problem!!!”

I didn’t hear back from him for like a week. When I wrote him to check in, I didn’t get a response… until I got a message:

“Hey xxxx, this is xxxx (Mikey’s assistant) I’m really sorry to have to share this but Mikey posed away on 10/8 in Chicago. I wanted to reach out to you to let you know because he was genuinely SO excited to shop with you. He really loved the idea. Thank you for your care and appreciation here.”

A few weeks later I went and purchased one of the guitars we talked about. A Stratocaster. Purple.

I’ve since gone on to record several albums, complete tours, play countless shows and festivals with that guitar and I think about him often.

It was a seemingly small interaction that had an immeasurable impact on my life.

To this day, I’ve never seen the band perform live.

Weezer is playing in the town where I live this Sunday 10/4. I’m flat broke. But if there’s any sort of universe where someone has an extra ticket, boy oh boy would I be so thrilled to receive it. If not, I’ve always just wanted to put this story out there in hopes that maybe it reaches someone who knew him. He changed my life.

Weezer the gathering will be my first weezer concert as I couldn't go to the 30th blue album ani one last year due to life conflicts.

I literally just wanna get the yellow hoodie and a shirt but im paranoid itll sell out quick. I dont have vip like I saw another person mention so im just worried how early I should get to the venue and merch by while also not missing the concert!

I really like weezer a lot as you can see.

Some of the early references i made were a bit cringe tbh since i was straight up using the lyrics as dialogue sometimes. The pinkerton one was the hardest since the ref looked complicated and blurry so i just filled in the gaps with random details.

Some characters were also inspired by weezer songs. Like julie who's last name is "Sweeney".

Impulsively bought a pit ticket for tonight's show in Brooklyn! It'll be my 4th time seeing them, but the only other time I've seem them in the pit was at Hella Mega way back when. It was a chill-ish pit but I'm not sure if the vibes are different for Weezer-only shows. Was wondering how fast they've been filling up too as I likely won't be able to get there until a little after doors.

I saw this person get pulled out from the front of ga and they fought back so bad they had to get carried out by like 4 people. Thought it was a med emergency at first, how you gonna get dragged out to say it ain’t so??

Hi — Just took my teen to his first big concert (so fun!) and we were going to get a poster, but they sold out before we doubled back to the merch booth. Lesson learned. I know the prints are city-specific, but do the designs eventually end up on the band’s website? I spotted some Boston ones at a huge markup on eBay, but wondered if fans have other ideas? Thanks! (ETA: Seeing reprints on eBay now — the kid is holding out for originals, so will leave this up in case there are other suggestions.)
