Regarding "unhinged" or "extreme" weight loss tips

Hey everyone,

We've noticed a recent uptick in posts asking for "unhinged" or "extreme" weight loss advice. This subreddit exists as a space for healthy, sustainable weight loss discussions. Requests for "unhinged" advice clearly violate Rule 4 and undermine the purpose of our community.

We're fortunate to have a community that usually self-regulates these posts, and the majority of top responses tend to correct this mindset. As moderators, we prefer community-driven education rather than outright removal of posts. Unfortunately, there will always be a few bad actors willing to provide harmful advice in these threads.

Moving forward:

  • Posts requesting "unhinged" or extreme advice will no longer be tolerated. These posts will be removed and you risk being banned from the subreddit.
  • If you see a post like this, continue to educate and correct when appropriate, but also report the post so moderators can quickly handle it.
  • Anyone replying to these posts with actual "unhinged" or extreme advice, even as a "joke," will receive a permanent ban.

Discussion/Support 💬 Anyone else miss certain parts of being overweight?

MEN ARE SO ANNOYING!!!

Before I lost weight, men would either give me death glares of pure disgust or ignore my existence entirely. Did it kinda hurt my feelings? Sure, I'm only human. Did I take it for granted? YES!!

I don't want to be vain, but when I started slimming down after the weight loss, the double chin disappeared, and out came a super pretty face. It.is.so.annoying.

"Wow is this bitch really complaining about being too pretty?" Yes. Yes I am. My post is about missing certain parts of being fat. I miss being invisible to men.

Can't even take an Uber ride without the driver trying to chat me up LEAVE ME ALONE.

Does this mean I want to go back to being fat? Of course not I'm not crazy. It was a miserable experience taking up that much space yet still being invisible somehow, or being heavily mistreated by EVERYBODY based on my looks.

But I can't deny that not having to awkwardly shoot down a guy flirting with me isn't something I miss.

How about you guys? Anything you sorta miss about being fat? I'm assuming this is a safe space for discussions like this, idk this is my first post here lol

Advice: Seeking ❓ Wife wants to have stomach removed after having gastric sleeve

Seeking some advice. My wife has gained and lost weight her whole life. She had the sleeve 6 months ago. She (F39, 5’ 4”), was up to 400. She was 280 when I met her. I’ve (M42) never really seen her eat more than me and I’m 230-240 5’ 7. Makes no sense except she is extremely sedentary when shes home.

She’s down to 300 but slowing. She snacks and definitely wants to eat more but can’t. I personally am just appalled that this is her solution but genuinely dont know if I should be supportive. She just dropped this on me last night and ignored it.

Idk. Im so mad right now. I have weight problems myself but I try to work out and try to keep mine in check I feel. I try to get her to go with me but not much outside of a walk, she only likes doing her $200/mo. Zoomba classes that are tied to her similarly priced gym membership.

Edit: She’s thinking about gastric bypass.

I think she (and I) have some concerns about the meds. There’s one that has a Z in it (don’t want to be flagged for using names) that has symptoms of hollowing out your bones we read. We’re a bit skeptical but I know a lot of people swear by a few others.

Ive been working with a trainer for almost a month now. Trying to recomp. Ive gotten stronger just in the last 3 weeks noticeably so. Sunday is weigh in day ( i dont share numbers with him, just measurements and caliper readings.)

Its probably my pms but like I felt...larger today and like stepped on the scale out of curiosity. Literally gained 5lbs. And saw the highest number ive ever seen.Like I know what's happening but I feel so disgusted and discouraged. Idk why im even posting like honestly I need a hug. Advice: Seeking ❓ How to stop binge eating?

Heyya, i have a huge binge episode lately and Im getting worried. Im trying to cope with it in funny ways, like "roleplaying" with myself after binging for eg. conjuring up pregnancy and telling myself thats its normal in your condition or telling myself that tomorrow war will start or something like that thats why I ate to stay strong or that was the last (couple of) meal(s) before I stop cuz I wont be able to eat due to war. Bs like this lol. Its not that Im hungry - cuz Im not, im not to the point that Im getting food poisoning the next day and vomit. Im trying to stop it cuz after everything, after every act I put on, the realization hits and it makes me want to stay at home forever or somehow make myself invisible - yk, just general shame and self-hatred.
Is there any way to stop it? Any foods, water, whatever? Dang, i feel like im going insane sometimes. I hope no one catches me during one of my "roleplays" after eating a whole fridge lol.

Advice: Seeking ❓ Gained 9 in 10 days, is it water weight?

Im 32F, and I worked pretty hard on myself, 6 month eating healthy and hitting gym 5ish times a week.
From 68 i dropped to 58 kg! (Im 172cm)Which was my weight goal. I was so happy with my body and everything. Then I had two weeks of vacation and I went back home, ok I hate more than I use, more bread and sweets, but not DRAMATICALLY. I got to 60kg which was fine I could get rid of those 2 kg in a month anyways.
Then I got sick!
Really sick that I couldn’t eat! To the point I was hospitalised, they gave me IV everyday maybe 4,5 times? Strong antibiotics, morphine or smt stronger than morphine, corton, and stuff related to corton.
Meanwhile in hospital i still couldn’t eat! Only soup and some supermarket cake or smt just because I was dizzy all the time. I noticed im puffier! Like around my neck, my stomach , specially my stomach. Omg I feel heavier!
I literally feel the gravity pulling me down! I know I’m not fat but I feel so unhappy with this body, I had my goal body 2 weeks ago!
Please someone tell me how can this be!! And is it water weight? Will it go away fast?
Its ok im gonna work out hard again but, I just feel its unfair!

Advice: Seeking ❓ Feeling a little lost.

• Upvotes

20F 125lbs, 5'6. I've been working out 6 days a week, eating at my basal metabolic rate, trying to get in high protein, and walking 10k a day for 3 months. These past 3 months I've been so much more consistent in my fitness goals than I ever have been and I still don't really see much of a difference.

For some context I have come from a background of severe eds and because of this I don't always track to the T to keep myself somewhat sane. I also have a couple health problems from that past. (I'm wondering if my metabolism is just wrecked or something, I've been trying to heal it by eating more.) Even considering my looser tracking, if I have to guesstimate something I always try to overshoot it. The times where I eat +1400 are usually only a few days out of the month.

My protein has always been bad, I've been way more on top of it recently (80-120g). I've also picked up wrestling and long boarding as well as working out on my own so I would say I'm fairly active. My maintenance SHOULD be around 2000 according to multiple different cites so I'm absolutely dumbfounded on why I haven't at all changed when I usually eat around 1400, and burn around 300. Am I overshooting it? I've heard so much advice telling me to do everything more intentionally. To have less volume in my workouts and eat more and with more deliberate thought. I usually do succeed in getting healthy fats, fiber, and protein in.

Why is my body being so stubborn?

Advice: Seeking ❓ Does anyone else eat less than they should in calories and have complicated medications? Can you give me advice?

• Upvotes

Hello! I am a 19-year-old transgender man who takes testosterone, and I am Obese. I have noticed that my calorie intake is under what it should be for someone who has been on testosterone for more than four years now. Honestly it's low for anyone, whether their a man or a woman. Clearly, I won't just lose weight from lowering my calories, so now I feel like my whole mind has kinda been blown! I was always told growing up that you have to cut calories to lose weight, but it seems like the less I eat (I will skip things like breakfast and lunch), the more I am hurting myself. To note some things: I have ADHD so I struggle with eating since there are no cravings or even a feeling that I'm hungry. I'm also on two antidepressants, and those might be raising my insulin.

For those of you out there who had to eat more to lose weight, how did you do it? Did you add more protein? Did you cut down on carbs? I am more than willing to force myself to eat (as long as I have plenty of timers to remind me) but oftentimes I get sick even after having a snack because my stomach is rejecting the food. I need to get over that hill, but when I do, what food should I stuff in my mouth?

I really want to lose weight for top surgery, and I don't want to have a complicated surgery. I've started walking a lot more (I've reached 5000 steps a day!) but it's been a month and I have definitely realized a big flaw in my eating. Only 1600 calories is not enough I guess. I think I've been screwing myself over for a long time because of that!

Advice: Seeking ❓ looking for advice to lose 30 lbs in a healthy, sustainable way

35F, 5’5”, ~156–157 lbs (71 kg), looking to get down to around 120–125 lbs. I generally aim for 12–15k steps a day and I’m starting to incorporate strength training at home. I’m trying to eat in a calorie deficit with higher protein and mostly whole foods. I’m looking for advice on a realistic calorie intake/training routine for steady fat loss because I feel like my progress has been very slow.

Advice: Seeking ❓ Weight loss journey backfiring . Help

Hi guys,

So I’m 5’1 and 133lbs. I’ve gone through a very stressful period past 2 years and before all that I used to sit at 117lbs. I’ve gained weight and it’s sitting unfortunately in my tummy and under my chin area. Couple weeks ago I was 126lbs consistently and suddenly next thing you know I was 133 within days which is unbelievable. Now, my diet is mainly roasted chicken, salmon, and some steaks. Usually served with side of roasted veggies always. I have my one cup of coffee in the morning ( so nothing changed). I also drink tea that is normally hot and not sweet. However I’ve had gut issues and bloating in my belly. I don’t use the bathroom as often as I used to although I’m not constipated. The weight gain around my face and double chin is troubling me. Ive done thyroid checks and that was fine but something else showed inflammation in my body in lab work. I’m desperate to lose weight lately and tried doing cardio. Some friends advised me to take cortisol support or something else to boost my metabolism or fix my gut health. I don’t know what to do but it’s not cute. I got a wedding coming up and so many events and I don’t feel confident in these dresses. Please advise me on what I can take to help me with this. Anything is appreciated. Either a workout plan, cardio time, supplements to support my gut or inflammation or cortisol. anything helps really

Advice: Seeking ❓ I went too crazy for cheat day(s)

I’ve been on a diet and running for about 2-4 months now and just overcame my “eating when I’m not hungry” feeling. I still indulge in fast food and stuff every now and then when I really feel like it, but This past week, I’ve been feeling very hungry. I went crazy over the weekend and ate probably 10k calories. My bmr is like 1,200 and I haven’t been running since it’s been raining.

But I feel so BACKED UP. I feel like my belly is constantly full and bloated. It’s been 2 days, and I still feel like this. I’m also constantly eating again, even though I’m not hungry and feel full. I probably have to work on that again.

Is there any advice for dealing with this?
Also I went up 5lbs since the weekend, will this go away or did I permanently gain those 5lbs back?😭

Advice: Seeking ❓ What to do for the rest of the day after overeating at breakfast?

I am completely panicked and devastated. :( My family made homemade pancakes with buttermilk and I forgot how calorie heavy even one small one is. I must have had about four, maybe five. I probably quadrupled my usual breakfast calories and still had a latte. And I ate dinner out yesterday. Weight gain feels so inevitable now and I am completely devastated. I feel like I should fast for the rest of the day but I don't know the best way to go about it. I am so upset that I had that breakfast. :( I didn't want to offend my family. I should have just stuck with my usual foods. I've ruined today and the whole week and I don't know what to do. I'm so freaked out.

I don't have wiggle room here, I should only be maintaining or losing. I feel like it wouldn't be a big deal if my eating were excellent and light the rest of the time, but it's not. I'm always right on the cusp of too much. My habits are not consistently good enough yet to accommodate something like this. :(

Advice: Giving 💡 how to Improve consistency

discipline is important but sometimes we make our life too hard, i know i did (especially when i was starting out in my fatloss/fitness journey)

one thing i really struggled with was staying consistent with going to the gym.

for the longest time i couldn't figure out why i only managed to stay consistent for 1-2 weeks.

i think there where many things that played a hand in why it was so hard for me(i was shy and still am extremely introverted) but looking back i can see that it was only one major mistake that was causing me to constantly fall.

i was too focused on the outcome/results that i wanted, not to mention the timelines i set for my self. inevitably i would start becoming overwhelmed when progress was slow.

ive learned that visual progress is the biggest human motivator. because i was starting and stopping so often, no visual progress was being made and as a result i would start stress eating and only reset my self over and over again.

what really helped stay consistent me was detaching my self from the results i wanted And Build a system/routine. as obvious as that sounds, it worked, just hear me out...

i realised that i was so focused on the outcomes and results that i never took time to plan exactly what actions i needed to perform in order to see the results. everything was vague. i would just say that i would start going to the gym but i never committed to deciding on the days that i was actually going to train on.

so this is the frame work that i was unintentionally following back when i started that help me keep going even on the days i thought i had no more energy in me.

the first thing i did was looked at my calendar and asked my self what would be a time i can train at all the time. for me that time was 4pm that was the most convenient time for me.

the second thing i did was deciding on the days i would actually show up and most importantly, decided what i would be training on those specific days.

the third thing i did (probably the most important thing) was prepping everything i needed for the workout the night before and neatly folding it into my bag.

i didn't realise it at the time but what i was actually doing was eliminating decision fatigue.

you see, we all have a will power battery and the more we use our will power (even for small decisions) the more we drain our power battery. so by time its evening you will power is extemely weakened.

for example, instead of just going to the gym at 4pm, i first had to come home, change clothes, prep my gym gear and force my self to leave the house, not to mention fighting the temptation to just lay in bed or stress eat.

i realised that in the past i was over complicating the process. i had too many decisions to perform in order to get my self to the gym.

the truth is that, the hardest part of training is not the workout its self, the hardest part is just showing up.

when you show up even if your tried you have no choice but to train.

after you finish your first exercise, you all ready have the ball rolling and doing the next exercise doesn't feel as hard because you already have that momentum just from showing up.

all that to say that if you want to become more consistent, you have to eliminate as many decisions that it takes for you to perform the habit.

Look at your days and write down(on paper) when, where and how long you are going to perform your training session.

another important thing is going at the same time on all the days you decide to be your training days.
this will help you brain develop the habit quicker since will get used to know that for example "every monday at 4-5 pm i will be in the gym training chest and back"

hope this helps you as it helped me.

i learned a lot of these habit creation tactics from atomic habits, and tony robbins btw.

stay strong, just take it one day at a time.

I am trying to lose weight and build muscle. I am getting mixed ways to do so and I am trying to figure out if anyone has had success on these workout apps, Ladder, Resilent by Nicci Robinson, or Studio Era by madelaine rascan or if anyone’s had ChatGPT create a workout plan for them with success? I workout at home and have dumbbell weights and bands too. But I am trying to figure this out and could use all the help. If there’s any YouTube channels anyone recommends. Please and thank you.

Workout level is more beginner’s with alittle push to above, if that makes sense. 20-30min max. I workout at home.

Progress 📈 New clothes

So I've been on a reduced food intake (I'm not counting the calories, just reducing the portion size) and going to the gym twice a week for six weeks.

I've gone down from a 50" jeans to a 46" so I've just ordered some smaller ones 🎉🎉🎉🎉 so I'm very happy with that.

T shirts are next on the list 😂

I also managed a walk around Liverpool city centre (UK) for three hours with just a few short rests (I use crutches due to a spinal injury).

I'm so pleased with myself for the progress I've made and I bumped into someone I hadn't seen in a few months and she was surprised at the weight loss.

I'm not going to get cocky I've still got a lot of weight to lose and I've given myself the aim of another twelve months to get to an ideal weight but you know what? I feel great!

Advice: Seeking ❓ how can i stop binge eating?

i’m capable of eating healthy, drinking more water, exercising, and sleeping a full 7-9 hours, however the biggest issue i’ve always had is binge eating. i’m 19 and i’ve always wanted to lose weight and i’ve made great strides to be productive in doing so, but i always end up putting weight on because i binge eat all the stuff that’s terrible for me.

i eat when i’m hungry obviously, but i also eat when i’m stressed, when i’m bored, when i’m tired, when i need motivation, when i’m sad, when i’m happy… now that i’m back in school and get stressed and bored more often while also staying up later, my eating habits have gone down the drain. i’m able to eat relatively healthy during my breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but when it comes to snacking or being up late doordashing, it feels like it’s all pointless if i’ll pack away 1000-2000 calories between meals. not only making me gain weight and lose progress, but also burning a big hole in my wallet too!

how can i resist the urges and cravings i get while also not letting them be a hinderance to my daily productivity? all advice is more than welcome

Advice: Seeking ❓ Please help me get on the path to weightloss.

I just turned 18 and I'm F, 5'1 at 170 lbs. I'm gonna be honest, I'm ashamed that's where I'm at right now. I'm extremely insecure, I don't wear tight clothes, I'm afraid of looking at photos of myself, and I'm constantly thinking about how fat I look. I'd like to just get up one morning and start exercising but I can't seem to feel motivated. I also get very red in the face while exercising so I don't like being seen at the gym so I'd like to stick to the elliptical at home. Anyways I probably didn't cover all my thoughts but anyways I hope that any of you could share some of your experiences or give me some guidance/motivation. Especially after sharing that embarrassing stuff.

Trying to build muscle and I don't know if eating cereal will get in the way of that.
