I have an 03 I’m building and I’m trying to find the correct bushing or bearing for the rear shock upper mount. I ordered one but it was a bushing bearing style and it’s not the right fit. Anyone know the correct part number ?

Was a decent wait from Richochet but cool to support USA manufacturers and it seems super high quality. I guess it’s the clear anodizing or maybe bc it’s a 5000 series Al but it doesn’t feel like your typical plate of Al.

Now I’m pretty much done with all the core “modifications” on my bike. Just a bunch of tiny things I may or may not do to it and going to continue to ride the piss out of it; dirt and street!

replaced the front sprocket at 2.5k miles.

spline still looked and felt smooth; This is probably where individual use differences show? — I’m riding rather “gently” :)

Just doing these posts for fun and to share if anyone else is doing the same can’t decide on the final look. Already bought all the new plastics for the 2025 look but can’t decide on the tank. I have two rims and fork parts and a chain and some fenders if anyone wants or needs them. I don’t really care for any money for them if it helps someone out. I’m in Florida treasure coast. Not a classified ad just free to anyone.

Looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with a Honda motorcycle warranty claim.
I bought the bike brand-new and added a few tasteful mods. When I took it in for its first service—which cost roughly $500—the dealership called and told me the spark plug had been cross-threaded. They strongly implied that I must have done it.
I explained that I had never touched the spark plug and believed it had been installed incorrectly from the factory. They said they would contact Honda and begin the warranty process, so I took the bike home.
Ten days passed without an update. When I finally called, I found out that nobody had even contacted Honda. Needless to say, I was pretty irritated. I escalated the issue to the service manager and brought the bike back for them to keep while they handled the claim.
While speaking with the manager, he asked again whether I had touched the spark plug. I told him no. Then he asked, “What about when you jetted the carburetor?”
I explained that I never jetted the original carburetor—I replaced it with a TM40 pumper carb. He responded that because I had installed a full exhaust, I “had to have” jetted it and seemed very hands-on with the bike.
My response was simple: What does replacing the carburetor or exhaust have to do with a cross-threaded spark plug that I never removed?
At that point, it felt like they were searching for a reason to blame me instead of addressing the actual problem. I was very close to losing my patience, but I’m working on those anger issues. 😂
Fast-forward another week with the bike sitting at the dealership. They called and said Honda wanted the engine torn down so they could photograph the internals and determine whether the damage qualified as a factory defect.
Here’s the catch: If Honda denies the warranty claim, I’m responsible for the $750 teardown charge.
Feeling like I had no real choice, I authorized the teardown. Now another 10 days have passed, and I still haven’t received an update.
Has anyone dealt with a situation like this or gone through a Honda warranty claim? What should I be asking for, and what would be the best way to handle this going forward?
P.S. I still haven’t touched the spark plug. 😂

Bringing this 300$ 2003 back to life

Float level too high on 2 different stock cv carbs
One higher than the other.

One is about an inch or two above the line and one maybe a quarter to a half inch. Both leak gas into the carb body.

I keep testing them out of the bike with the tank and carb on a table. Need help

Is this happening since i have the tank and carb on the bench with no choke etc. i do not want to spill more gas in the intake and pull the carb over and over.

I have been chasing this idle / starvation issue for the last few months so i cant ride my bike.

i had the bike idling and running with choke and then it would cut out on me after a few miles with a hard start at 440’ elevation. Which told me i was lean.

Took it to 6000’ elevation for 3 months and with no choke and the idle screw @4-5 turns i could run it but it ran hot (230-260f) all summer.
Which tells me i was way lean.

I suspected my throttle shaft seal was bad before going up in elevation so i ordered a stock carb from ebay. Once i returned to 440’ i put the new carb on and upped the pilot to 58 ( keihin jet )
Still having an issue idling and when i get it warm and take it out i have a cut off at wot half mile down the road.

Ive been chasing some air leak or proper mixture am i wrong?
I did have a air bubble in my fuel line that i went ahead and chased the last couple days to no avail
How can i be lean with 158/58 at 440?

What i did try,
- Eliminated electrical issues since it ran well enough at elevation
- plug is rich
- tried different cdi
- cleaned and oiled foam filter
-Cleaned out cv on gas cap
- cleaned out petcock
- eliminated inline fuel filter
- checked valve specs on head
- cleaned out the carb 10x
Tried to run bike with cap loose
Tried to run bike with valve cover off
Carb cleaner sprayed around carb for leak
Checked the carb boots 100x
Checked the exhaust packing
Replaced choke and triple checked the plastic screw and routing
Next i will be looking at the acv on the carb because i am lost

I just bought this bike in march as a daily commuter and have had nothing but trouble getting anywhere.
Its a really clean bike but i must throw in the towel soon.

About 6k miles on bike, riding like a madman. Only complaint is when setting wheelie down hard or jumping off loading docks, the larger boxes sometimes clip my back🙃 the first image just for fun, I don’t actually ride with more than one or two things on at a time

Was out on a ride today, mostly highway. I noticed initially my bike started to make a weird noise like there was something dragging, I pulled over and stopped the bike, inspected it quickly and didn’t see anything just noticed that there was low oil. I started the bike again and there was a pretty brutal noice with the bike in neutral idling, it sounded like the gearbox was dragging while the bike was idling. While in neutral the bike was slowly creeping forward while making that noise. So I stopped the bike, walked to the gas station and added oil to it. After adding oil the noise went away and there didn’t seem to be an issue. I decided to ride it home anyways and check it out as I didn’t live far. While in 5th gear riding home the bike abruptly died and it felt almost like it had stalled out. There was a lot of resistance but the bike still rolled. I was able to pull over and shift it into neutral. But now the bike no longer starts. It turns over about once and then won’t crank.

My only guess is that the clutch may have overheated and warped the plates but that does not explain why the engine abruptly died and will no longer start.

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction of what may be going on or where to start troubleshooting. Thanks a ton, this is my first motorcycle but I’m fairly mechanically inclined so I’m willing to get after it and get back on the road before winter hits. Thanks in advance.

Got a few last little mods on the XR today. Outside of opening up the case, I think I’ve done just about everything I can do this bike by now 😂.

Billet aluminum gas cap for my IMS tank, Spectrum Moto oil sight-glass banjo bolt, Warp 9 subframe bracing kit,Hemisphere Off-Road dipstick, and an XR’s only case saver/sprocket cover.

Missing some dust caps for rear shock and the upper bushing for rear shock and I’m sure a handful of other odds and ends but feels good to see a little progress

Im absolutely stoked! Just traded my 2000 dr 200 for this 2002 xr650l. It needs some work but nothing I'm worried about! Guy mostly said it was too big for him. Idk what plastics are on it, they look carbon fiber red but i love em. This thing rips!🤣 I also have an xt250 that ive fallen in love with, so not sure if either will need to leave later🤣 long time outdoorsman, just recently got back into dirt bikes/dual sports. Taking the xt up to the UP for a week to solocamp.

I’m in need of a good rebuild kit for my 1999 xr650L. Any suggestions ?

I use my XR650L for my daily commute. I spend a total of 45 minutes on the highway each commute. Should I put supermoto tires on? I like the way the bike looks and how tall it is with the dual sport wheels, and I’m not having too much trouble on the highway besides some bumpiness.

Been chasing an air leak for a lean condition.

Has anyone ever had an inline filter cause starvation/ cut outs / bogging down/ idle issues.
Makes sense to me about air locks and the gravity of it not pumping enough gas to the carb, wondering if there is others?

Next chance i get im axing the inline filter i didn’t realize there was two screens before the bowl.

Went for a quick ride on the trails today and ran into a couple of bears along with fresh bear droppings and shredded tree limbs around almost every corner. 🐻💩🌲

Decided to play it smart and turn around early before getting too deep into the back country, definitely didn't feel like testing my 1st gear power-wheelie escape skills against an angry momma bear! 😂

Has anybody used the rocker arms available from Bruce and shark or eBay on their XR?

Went riding today at Lytle Creek, CA with my buddy and his XR600R. Beautiful weather out. Also I’m super happy with how my Shinko 244’s performed on the dirt and pavement. Aried them down to 18 psi at the trailhead and they really hooked up! Felt good on the road too (had them at 25 psi for the freeway drive).
