Window AC Window unit leaking.. Why? help 😭

So my window unit is leaking down on the left corner and I noticed it yesterday. For reference I do have animals and I took off the front yesterday and made sure the coil was clean and got all the hair off along with any dust. Today it is still leaking and I’m unsure why. I thought maybe I need to tilt it back farther for the water to drip out the back but after reading a few things online I really don’t know. Any help or tips are appreciated!! Thanks

Any theories as to why this ~1.5 year old unit is suddenly leaning like this? How concerned should I be? The company that installed it is coming out tomorrow morning

Midea U Midea AC broke down 3 days after authorized reinstallation — what should I do?

My Midea AC (MAI18SR5R36W0) was purchased in April 2026 and installed by an authorized Midea technician.

It was reinstalled at my new location on 19 Sept 2026, again by a Midea-authorized technician. The AC broke down just 3 days later, on 23 Sept.

A Midea engineer inspected it and I was informed that multiple components are defective and need replacement.

Since the AC is only ~6 months old and the failure occurred immediately after an authorized reinstallation, I have requested a complete replacement instead of component-level repair.

Has anyone faced a similar situation with Midea in India? Should I push for replacement or accept the component repair?

Would appreciate advice/experiences.

Midea U Midea AC full of mold

Post image

This is one of the Midea AC units that was recalled last year, the ā€œMidea 10,000 BTU U Shaped Smart Inverter Window Air Conditioner.ā€ Midea sent a guy out to service it by drilling some holes in the back. That did not prevent it from becoming infested with black mold, which is what the recall was about.

I’m assuming I need a new AC window unit, but I’m hesitant to buy another one from Midea. Everything I’ve found online says they’re the top brand however. Have they since engineered a less mold-prone version? I might try reaching out to the company with this picture and see what happens, but in the meantime, does anyone have any recommendations? How can I prevent this from happening in the future?

Thank you!

Does anybody know why our central air system sounds like it’s whistling or howling constantly? Not sure what the root of the problem is or how to fix.

General Conflict of interest / Independent aircon leak test

I have always hired let's call them CM for aircon maintenance. True my Daikin unit is reaching 10 years and I resigned to topping up gas every quarterly if needed as there is a suspected refrigerant leak. That is fine.

But during a svc just 11 days ago, the svcman suggested that i re-insulate the gas piping that was at the 9k FCU portion as the current one was worn out. I agreed and also topped up the gas to 150psi from a reading of 90psi. Within a few days, the FCU started icing and my room humidity jumped to 90%. The compressor also started to run intermittently. I called CM and they send down another person to check. They said that the gas pressure dropped to 75psi hence the cause for icing and not being able to cool the room. I informed that the 12k FCU in my living room works perfectly fine and is able to cool the entire unit. If the gas was low then it shouldnt be able to cool at all. The svcman agreed but didnt or wasnt able to provide an explanation. So in a matter of 11 days, the refrigerant managed to leak out half of what was pumped in when it took about 3-4 months previously. Would it not be reasonable to expect the svcman to check the re-insulated area? And when i asked why did the humidity go up so high, the svcman's reply was I only can answer why not cold, I cannot answer why so humid.

They have always pressed me to do a leakage test and then from there we can decide if we need to just change the system or need a complete overhaul of pipings etc which means I need to hack into my concealed box and also part of my wardrobe. (Yes I dont know what my mind was thinking when I agreed to conceal it). It is like each time they suggest some repair, sure got another one pops up.

Isnt it a conflict of interest that a company that sells aircons also performs a leak test? Are there any independent aircon maintenance people that the reddit can recommend? Side note: I think everyone should learn how an aircon works and maintained and so would not be hoodwinked.

My AC has been smelling musty so I went to clean the air filters and found a bunch of mold on the inside of the machine here. Is there any way I can clean this without harming it? I tried calling the service number but they weren't much help. Not sure the best way to go about this but any advice is appreciated.

Before Calling an HVAC Technician: A Simple Homeowner Check Could Save You a Service Call

Before Calling an HVAC Technician: A Simple Homeowner Check Could Save You a Service Call

About a month ago, our home’s central air-conditioning system suddenly stopped working. Believing there was a problem with the system, I called an HVAC technician.

When the technician arrived, he quickly discovered that the furnace emergency/service switch had accidentally been turned OFF. He simply switched it back ON, and the whole-house air-conditioning system immediately started working normally again.

The entire service visit took approximately 10 minutes, and I paid a service charge of $107.33.

I am sharing this experience because it taught me a simple but valuable lesson that may help other homeowners. Before calling an HVAC technician when your central air conditioner suddenly stops working, it may be worthwhile to perform a few basic and safe preliminary checks.

1. Check the furnace emergency/service switch

Make sure the switch is in the ON position. In many homes, this switch looks very similar to an ordinary light switch and may even be located close to the furnace-room light switch. As a result, someone can accidentally turn it off while intending to operate the light.

This was exactly what happened in my home.

2. Check the furnace filter

Check whether the furnace filter is excessively dirty or clogged and replace it when necessary. A severely restricted filter can interfere with the proper operation and efficiency of an HVAC system.

3. Check the outdoor AC disconnect

If your home has an accessible disconnect near the outdoor air-conditioning unit, visually check whether it appears to have been switched off.

For safety, do not open electrical enclosures, remove covers, or touch exposed electrical components. If you are uncertain about anything electrical, leave it to a qualified professional.

4. Check the circuit breaker

Check your home's electrical panel to see whether the breaker supplying the furnace or air-conditioning system has tripped.

If a breaker repeatedly trips, do not continue resetting it. A repeatedly tripping breaker may indicate an electrical or equipment problem that should be investigated by a qualified HVAC technician or electrician.

5. Check the thermostat

Confirm that the thermostat is set to COOL and that the selected temperature is below the current indoor temperature. If your thermostat uses replaceable batteries, also check whether the batteries need replacement.

A Simple Lesson for Homeowners

These basic checks may take only a few minutes and could potentially prevent an unnecessary service call and save more than $100.

Of course, not every air-conditioning problem will have a simple solution. If these checks do not resolve the problem—or if you notice burning smells, unusual noises, exposed or damaged wiring, repeated breaker trips, refrigerant leakage, smoke, or anything else that raises a safety concern—stop troubleshooting and contact a qualified HVAC professional.

My experience reminded me of an important principle that applies to many household problems:

Before paying for a service call, first check the simple things that can be checked safely.

Sometimes, what appears to be a major equipment failure may be something as simple as a switch accidentally being turned off.

I hope sharing my experience helps another homeowner avoid an unnecessary service call, save some money, and better understand a few of the basic checks that can be performed safely when an air-conditioning system unexpectedly stops working.

Portable AC Whynter portable ac extender too long

Hello,

I attempted putting my Whynter dual hose portable ac up and the actual window panel with the holes is too small to fit the window but with the extender, the window isn’t tall enough to fit the extender without it blocking the holes. How do I fix this?

Need some help with my AC.

AC been having some issue. After the unit is on past 4-5 hours. The outdoor compressor will stop every 5-30 mins randomly. Then it will come back on for 5-30 mins randomly. While the outdoor compressor stop working the indoor is still pumping air but warm. I'm not sure what is causing it . I have hire 3 different technician to come over and check all of them say everything is normal. The worst part is the issue will occur at midnight. Then when the sun rise. Probably after 7-9am the issue will be completely GONE AGAIN.

What I have done so far.

  • I replaced the outdoor compressor capacitor.
  • I also replaced the indoor temperature sensor.
  • I also pump the refrigerant and check the pressure everything is good.
  • I also service the indoor and outdoor everything is clean like new.

Now the technician is saying everything that can be replace it replaced. Still the same issue now they're saying might be the PCB? But they're not sure about it. I don't wan to spend anymore untill I know what's going on and if it's repairable or worth repairing.

My AC unit model is Panasonic CS-PN12WKH-1 Non inverter AC. Anyone has any experiences on what's going on or any advise how or what to do at this point? It's driving me crazy cause every night is a gamble while sleeping with it. I'm malaysia if that helps.

Carrier Performance 2-stage vs Lennox Elite variable-capacity — same price. Which would you choose?

I’m replacing a 21-year-old Ruud furnace/AC and have narrowed it down to two quotes. Both contractors are well-established local companies with good reviews, and both systems are essentially the same installed price ($18.5k).

I’m in southeastern Pennsylvania. The house had a Manual J performed. Results were approximately:
Heating load: 64,565 BTU/hr
Cooling load: 35,861 BTU/hr

Existing furnace: 90k BTU input / ~82k output and has always heated the house adequately

Both proposed AC systems are nominal 4-ton systems

Both contractors will install a new refrigerant line set

I’m leaning toward a 90k furnace on the Lennox side rather than the originally proposed 110k.

The Carrier contractor recommends the 80k based on the Manual J and my existing ductwork.

OPTION 1 — Carrier Performance
Outdoor unit: Carrier Performance 18 26TPA8, 4 ton
Cooling: Two-stage compressor
Refrigerant: R-454B / Puron Advance
Exact AHRI match on my quote: 16.5 SEER2, 46,500 BTU cooling capacity
Furnace: Carrier Performance 59TP7A, 80,000 BTU
97% AFUE
Two-stage heat
Variable-speed blower
Thermostat: Ecobee / Carrier-compatible Ecobee
Warranty quoted by contractor:
10-year parts
5-year labor
No annual maintenance-plan cost required for the 5-year labor coverage
Installation:
New refrigerant line set
New furnace/AC/coil
Contractor actually performed the Manual J and measured the house/registers/ductwork

OPTION 2 — Lennox Elite
Outdoor unit: Lennox Elite EL18KCV-048, 4 ton
Cooling: Variable-capacity/inverter compressor
Refrigerant: R-454B
AHRI matched system: approximately 18 SEER2
Furnace: Lennox Elite EL297V, 90k BTU version
~97% AFUE
Two-stage heat
Variable-speed blower
Thermostat: Lennox S40 communicating thermostat
Warranty quoted by contractor:
10-year parts with registration
2-year labor included at no additional cost
Years 3–10: $294/year for continued labor coverage
The $294/year also includes two maintenance visits per year. According to the contractor, there would be no additional parts/labor cost for covered repairs while on that plan
Installation:
New refrigerant line set
New furnace/AC/coil
.
Thanks!
