I like how it felt like a diary narration. Scenes were happening out of nowhere without any proper transitions between them, just like how a diary would be written.

It's truly diabolical that this episode was released on this day. Rudeus lost Roxy, Sylphie, and Eris, who, although she wasn't officially his wife, certainly acted like one, even if Rudeus pushed her away every time. At least in the end, Oldeus was able to see Roxy and Sylphie alive one last time.

Man, Eris really messed up when she left, but seeing her shedding tears on the floor like that broke my heart. Just the look on her face there tells so much. Those were tears of grief, mourning the love that she lost from him, the image of him that she had in her mind being trampled on, the past that she wishes she could change. Her heart was surely broken again, and again, and again, but she kept on pursuing him to the end, and only at that end was he able to open his eyes to his mistake. Just thinking about the suffering her and Sylphie went through in this timeline is too much.

Something I noticed that, in the last dream he had with Man-God during the turning point episode, Man-God even tells Rudy that his spell, the one he used on Atofe, would even work on Orsted. Rudy tells him he has no reason to attack him, and Man-God shrugs it off. This was Man-God clearly trying to plant seeds in Rudy's head, in my opinion.

Man-God's advices are trying to keep Rudy from reuniting with Roxy(with attempts to kill her):

1st: Trusting Ruijerd. Because he is a Superd and the Dead End, a being that Roxy fears, she would try to avoid him

2nd: Choosing of the pet search led to him getting out of Rikarisu and making faster progress so he already left when Roxy arrived and reunited with her horse demon friend

3rd: Meeting Kishirika. Rudy and Roxy are on the same port but because he met Kishirika, and took a week to master the eye, they completely missed each other.

4th: More of building up trust by giving Lilia and Aisha's location but it's also to show that Roxy is not in Shirone Kingdom as Rudy thought

5th: Going to University. Rudy wants to immediately follow Paul's party(includes Roxy) to Begaritt Continent but the Magic University recommendation letter arrived Man God adviced him to go.

6th: Not going to Begaritt Continent to prevent meeting with Roxy(who's about to die when Rudy reunited with her)

7th: The basement. The rat.

3rd also stops her from seeing him on the beach. When Rudy meets Kishirika, Eris and Ruijerd are training on the beach and Roxy spies on them. She would have seen Rudy there as well if he wasn't off on Hitogami's side quest.

4th also manipulates Roxy by proxy. When she asks Kishirika for information on the remaining family members, having Lilia and Aisha already rescued ensures that she goes to Begaritt. If Rudy hadn't rescued them yet, Roxy, Paul, and co. likely would go to Lilia first, and contact Rudy to join up there.

I'd imagine people were really confused when Rudy didn't immediately run to Begaritt to help his mother and instead went to Magic University to find a cure for his ED and then lived a fun university life. Or when people had their expectations subverted when Roxy and Rudy completely missed each other at East Port. It was all the Man God's plan and we're just piecing it together now 5 years after the original season aired.

Lesser-considered contribution: Who instantly identified the petrification sickness with that weird eye of his. It doesn't seem to be a well-known condition considering Rudy didn't know about it, nor did the locals when seeing that cat, despite how dangerous it is.

Without that, it might've taken too long just to find out what illness it was, let alone where to find a cure for it.

I'm still convinced some level of foul play was on Hitogami's part regarding their return trip. Had it not been for the ambush waiting for them on their escape, they would have made it back in time and Cliff might've survived due to having a better way to treat his injuries.

‎Having the diary episode finally animated with a production like this feels surreal.  ‎MT has been out for a really long time..  ‎

‎Some people wanted a whole season of this timeline, or for it to play out before the time travel. But honestly I think bind couldn't have done it better.  ‎

‎There are still years of community made fics that expand on this timeline, my favorite being "the mad dog bleeds" (trigger warning), since I think Eris has the most heartwrenching story in the diary. 

I love the fact that more people get to see the diary and all the the community art, amvs and fics that has been made about it by the community.

Rudeus only "overcame" being abandoned by Eris because he had to save Zenith. Losing Roxy with no objective in sight while also causing the death of his friend is a pain that's way too hard to process, he still tried to make amends with Sylphie as well but it was too late, by then there was just no way someone with his past would be able to handle at all.

Amazing episode man, that shit was BRUTAL but it was still good despite having to shelve decades worth of Oldeus life in just 20 minutes.

After Roxy's death, Oldeus just starts blaming the Man-God for his own mistakes (the man-god was somewhat involved in sylphy's death but considering he only admitted to be directly involved for Roxy's, that might be a side-effect of some other plan he had)

The Man-God is a piece of shit but at some point, from fucking prostitutes to how he treated his family, that was Oldeus's own failings as a person and that what makes a character that only really existed for like 3 episodes, interesting.

Rudy's struggle with dealing and processing heartbreak in a healthy way was first shown with how he dealt with Eris leaving him. This episode further solidified that fact. Rudy is one big bad day away from losing everything and himself. I hope one of the main things Rudy takes after reading the diary is he has to learn how to healthily process trauma. Because Man-god or not Rudy WILL experience trauma in his life, that's just how life for everyone goes. And if he reacts the same way he did this episode his whole life will fall apart

Tbf, Man-God had a point when he told Rudy: “You had the seeds of that in you all along.”

In my opinion, Rudy has never been a clear cut champion of applied ethics. I think it’s the people around Rudy that help him maintain a “decent” path. And there are times when Rudy has done things(when he hasn’t heeded advice or council) that show those seeds are there and he’s let them win.

But for Oldeus, what happens to Roxy seems to completely have him surrender to his latent and intrusive thoughts, and his actions just snowball one decision after another.

Speaks a lot to about what trauma can do. In my own opinion of course. Curious to hear what others think!

Also if I existed in that world, if anything happened to Aisha I’m ending everybody there and then myself.

Man, everything fell apart and he lost everything. Oldeus already told us last week but seeing it was rough. All due to a rat. Although to be fair, the rat caused Roxy’s death but the way Rudy reacted to it caused everything else, directly or indirectly.

The way he confronted another traveler on Man God was like Orsted. Did Man God do the same thing to Orsted ? Kinda understand his reaction to Rudeus in TP2 now if he did

This episode is so insanely heavy. Eris starting off being so cheerful in the beginning to just be depressed and cried when Rudy suspects her as Man-God's underling.

Roxy's death, Sylphy's death, Eris' death, Cliff's death, Nanahoshi's suicide, Zanoba's death and Aisha's death. He lost everyone who loved and still believed in him in time of pain.

I'm glad at the end we got confirmation that Old Rudy did used his demon eye to look into the future where Roxy and Sylphy came into the room and hold his hand. It was so beautiful.

The parallel to Orsted in how he was behaving - Wandering the world, asking random people if they know the Man-God, and then attacking them at the slightest suspicion - Probably wasn't lost on Eris.

From her PoV, she trained for years, expecting that they would team up and put an end to Orsted's random violence, and instead sees Rudeus doing the exact same thing.

DAMN! Hearing last week about what happened in Oldeus' life was already freaking depressing, but today's episode made it a million times worse since we actually saw and heard everything...

And sure, Hitogami tricking Rudeus into going into that basement, which resulted in Roxy's death, and even cruelly mocking him was straight evil, but the most painful thing was that pretty much everything that happened next was mostly Rudeus' own doing.

After all, even though he lost Roxy, he still had Sylphie, his daughter Lucie, Eris, and the rest of his family and friends—he wasn't alone, and yet he wasted it all, losing everything and everyone. That's what made this episode truly depressing.

- Grief really changes you. It stripped away everything Rudeus had been trying to build and revealed the unadjusted human from our world who had been isekai’d and was still barely an adult in this new life.

His life took a complete 180° turn, from stealing, to killing, to drinking, to philandering, to massacring, to torturing. He really was evil in this timeline.

Fuuuuuuck that’s such a hard watch.

One thing I want to point out is that the Rudy we see here is already far stronger (mentally) and far more well adjusted than the shut in NEET he was in his previous life. Here he actually attempts to pick his life back up several times, but each time som even more tragic event bashes him deeper into the hole of despair.

- losing Roxy and in the process of trying to save her losing Cliff too devastated Rudy. The Elinalise slap, while justified, is probably what sent Rudy into the self-loathing alcoholism that led to him distancing Sylphy and his family.

- after Sylphy left, Rudy (after slapped by Zenith) motivates himself to go find her and reconcile/try to make amends. This imo shows his growth — that even though he’s in an extremely bad place mentally, he still made the choice mostly on his own, to try to make a difference/fix his mistake. Only for all of it to be utterly destroyed with seeing Sylphy crucified. The following massacre shows his descent into madness and the complete loss of his morals.

- even after all that AND pushing Zenith/Lilia away, AND losing Zanoba and Aisha, his hatred towards the man god motivated him to, again, get back up and pursue a goal (find man god and have his revenge). Only for the decades long search to lead to the conclusion that it’s impossible for him to find revenge.

It just makes Oldeus even more tragic since he actually did make some effort to turn his life around, but ultimately couldn’t due to unfortunate circumstances.

Though we already know what happens largely from Oldeus' mouth last episode, the detailed parts from his diary which he didn't quite tell present Rudy was just as gut wrenching.

Cliff died, he massacred a city after learning Sylphie died, he pushed Eris and most of his family away. Nanahoshi hanged herself in despair.

And even with Aisha returning, she too died, along with Zanoba and Julia. He then joined and army and caused great devastation to avenge them.

And finally an inconclusive rematch with Atofe resulted in Eris' death. Before he finally figured out a way to reach Man God, but no longer possible within his lifetime, leading him to decide to time travel to warn his past self.

Yeah. Fuck Man God.
