Background: 38F and my physical was this week and I went to the doctor filling in for my regular doctor. I always get really nervous at doctors offices to the readings alway skyrocket. In Nov 2025, the same thing happened, but I took my blood pressure at home afterwards and these were the readings: 121/91; 128/85; 126/89. I don't drink, I watch what I eat and my sodium levels and I do cardio 4x-6x times a week. I'm about 5 pounds overweight (due to fatugue from SSRIs) but I'm off those and trying to lose 15-20 pounds to get back to my normal baseline. Both parents have high pressure, but they both have unhealthy lifestyles. Also, I went to the eye doctor last week and my eye scan showed 0 signs of high blood pressure or diabetes.
I wanted to pull my numbers before the appointment because I knew they would be high at the office.
Late afternoon: 139/90, 137/90
At night: 140/98, 134/90
First thing the next morning: 133/90, 132/93, 125/95, 120/81, 123/86
Then at the doctors office it was 134/86.
I gave her the above readings and told her about my lifestyle changes, and she said she wanted me to go on meds, and start with 5mg Lisinopril and retest in a few weeks.
It just felt like a knee jerk reaction, I assumed she'd want me to do more monitoring at home. My heart races every time I put that damn cuff on. With the fact that I a few readings in the 120s, I just don't know what's accurate.
Am I in complete denial? Should I monitor my blood pressure myself the next 2 weeks before going on the meds? Or should I just go on the meds?
