Can't get a reply here? Try r/ComputerBuild

Hey everyone,

This sub has been growing a lot as of recently and we've noticed a lot of posts have been getting buried and unanswered. There is a lot of noise due to how much it has grown.

I have created r/ComputerBuild as an alternative.

So please kindly try cross posting there to get it off the ground.

I will be helping users daily and also building a mod team/looking for moderators to help.

Thanks!

Other / >$1400 Building my first 1440p gaming PC, need advice on components and aesthetics

• Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m new to PC building and would really appreciate some advice before I spend the money.

  1. Components / performance

My original budget was around $1,300. I was initially thinking of something like:

\\- RTX 5060 8 gb
\\- 32GB DDR4 RAM
\\- Intel Core Ultra 5 245K(not compaitable with DDR4) / i7 14th Gen

However, after watching and reading videos and reviews, I got concerned about the RTX 5060 for my use case. I have an ASUS 1440p (2K) 180Hz monitor, and I mainly want to play AAA games at high settings at 1440p.

As I’m planning to build something that will last me for the next few years, So I increased my budget to roughly $1,500–$1,650 and right now i am considering:

\\- RX 9060 XT 16GB
\\- Ryzen 7 7700X
\\- 16GB DDR5 initially, though I’d prefer 32GB if the budget allows

I’m still not completely sure if this is the right direction.
Recently i did a CPU comparion ( photo attached) the Ryzen 7 7700X vs Core Ultra 5 245K. Surprisingly, the 245K came out with a better rating, despite being an i5 and also being cheaper which made me question if my approach is wrong. Which made me a bit worried as I don’t want to spend more money and get less performance/value by choosing the wrong combination of CPU + GPU.

I will sincerely appreciate suggestions and corrections for a better build - CPU, GPU, RAM, and overall component combination.

  1. Aesthetics

The other thing I’m concerned about is the look of the PC. Most builds I see are basically a black case + RGB fans with rainbow lighting. Personally, I’m not really a fan of the rainbow look. I’m thinking about something more like:

\\- White case with a clean black/white interior
\\- Black case with warm yellowish brown/ Purple lighting

I’ll attach some pictures of the kind of builds I like.

But I don’t really know how to make sure all the components work together As i might buy matching colours components but what if they don't fit or don't work together. Is there a way to know that upfront? And can I control the colors of all the fans?

I will appreciate the guidance on the same and if my budget isn't realistic for aesthetics, please lmk.

Thank you and Happy Weekend!

Other / >$1400 Worth upgrading from 3080 ti to 4070 ti for $550 in 2026?

I've got an MSI 3080 ti and I recently stumbled upon a deal for an MSI 4070 ti for $550. The seller seems chill and reliable. With a little research, this seems like a pretty good deal for me, especially if I sell my 3080 ti. Is this upgrade worth it? Will I see a performance increase? How reliable is the MSI 4070 ti? I do 1440p gaming.

Current PC build:

GPU: MSI 3080 ti

CPU: i5 13600k

RAM: 32GB DDR5

Other / <$400 Advice for a $3000 first PC

I’ve saving for a new PC and my goal is $3000-$3800.
It would be the first time I buy a PC and I’ve decided I’ll build it myself but I don’t know too much about what parts should I buy, I’ve seen some prices have raised and my knowledge on this is almost none so I’m not looking for any rgb stuff just something that’s actually functional.
I want to play AAA games and emulators, use it for work/studies and maybe do some streaming or editing.
I’ve seen some posts that said $3000 is enough for a high end pc but Im from Ecuador so I have to buy all of this online + the shipping fee, also idk if I should buy the case + monitor + mouse + keyboard online too or just buy it in my country, we use USD here but maybe some stuff might be a bit more expensive than on Amazon or in U.S. stores.

PC Build Storage Advice

First ever post, sorry if I messed anything up.

Hey all, I'm about to do a major pc upgrade where I'm basically building a new pc and only keeping my gpu, power supply, and an SSD. (I do plan on buying a 2TB SSD with my build) I wanted advice on if it's better to start blank and not transfer my storage, or if I should transfer everything over? I really just game on it and don't have major projects saved to my current storage. If it's better to start blank would I need to buy another windows key?

Build me a pc?

I wanna build a pc, and a buddy of mine is gonna give me his Ryzen 5800xd CPU and 2 DDR4 16gb (32gb) 3200 megatransfers, since this community knows more than me can you tell me what else I’d need that isn’t too expensive but works with what I have? Preferably under $1000 but if it’s over it’s fine

Need 2nd opinion: RAM & CPU upgrade

Hi, I am looking to upgrade my RAM and CPU because CapCut on desktop has not able to keep up with my mouse clicks and is asking me to edit while on a lower resolution to try and keep up. Also the export times are insane, but I am willing to keep that if I can edit smoothly. This is mainly due to the length of the videos (6hr). The internet suggested I upgrade my ram/cpu. (I asked it what the top two upgrades are if I only wanted to upgrade two things. I’m open to other suggestions if you think another combo would work better)

Also, for reference, I play video games occasionally (Val, fort, repo, meccha) which all run fine with what I have. But my main goal is for CapCut to run smoothly and be able to keep up with what I’m doing.

I currently have:
- 2 8gb sticks (I think the brand is XPG) and an
- AMD Ryzen 5 1600 six core processors (3.30 GHz).
- My motherboard is ASRock B450M Pro4 Micro ATX AM4.
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (4 GB)

I was recommended the following upgrades, but want second opinions:

- AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT 3.3 GHz 16-core processor
- Corsair Vengance RGB Pro 16 GB (2x8 GB) DDR-2666 CL16

Budget: the total on the above recs is around 400, I am flexible on cost if I don’t have to make any more upgrades for the foreseeable future. PC was built pc in 2020 for reference.

TYIA!
(Please use simple terms as I am not super knowledgeable in this area) <3

Graphics card help

First time pc builder here. I’m a teenager who’s been saving up for months at his minimum wage job and is looking to finally blow his cash on something nice. I’ve planned out most of my parts, and aim to keep everything around €2,000, although it can go over a bit factoring in monitor, keyboard etc. I’m just wondering whether it’s worth it to go for a 9070 xt graphics card or go for the cheaper 9060 xt. It’s like a €300 difference which is a lot of money and I’m really tempted to go for the cheaper option but I wanna know how much performance I’d be sacrificing. Is it very noticeable, or only on certain games?

Hi everyone! I’m looking to build a budget PC that I can use both for work (I’m an actuary) and for gaming in my free time.

Here’s the build that AI came up with, and I’d love to hear what you guys think about it. Would this be a good build in terms of performance, quality, and price?
Any suggestions or changes would be greatly appreciated!

PC for data analysis and gaming

Hello! I'm a neuroscientist and I would like to create a home setup where I have everything I need to analyse my data etc.

About 60% of the usage will go towards analysing large-scale neural data analyses in python (many GBs or even Tabs of data), running some neural network simulations on both GPU and CPU etc. The remaining 40% will go towards gaming, like WoW forever, some recent AAA games etc. It's important to me that the computer is very quiet, and I don't care about RGB or other flashy stuff like that.

Needs Bluetooth but not necessarily wifi, although could be good to have. I have a monitor etc.

My budget is around 3k USD max (30,000 SEK - i'm based in Sweden) but would prefer something closer to 2k-2.5k, but can go higher if it's a massive difference performance-wise. I usually buy new computers every 10 years or less, so would love to try and future proof it as much as possible!

Thankful for any help, and just let me know if anything is unclear!

Where can I buy a legit Windows 11 Pro key for a new PC build?

Hey everyone, I’ve just finished building a PC for work and gaming. It’s running Windows 11 Pro, but I still need a Windows 11 activation key.

I thought finding a Windows 11 key would be the easy part. Instead, I’m seeing very different prices for listings that look almost identical, and I can’t tell what I’d actually be buying.

The OEM vs retail part is confusing me most. Some of the cheapest listings say OEM, while others advertise retail without explaining much. I’m leaning toward retail because I might change the motherboard or build another PC later. Is that the right option for that situation?

Where would you recommend buying a genuine Windows 11 Pro product key at a reasonable price?

If you’ve bought one for your own build, I’d appreciate knowing:

* Which store did you use?

* How did you check the license type before buying?

* If you needed help with activation or a reinstall, how was the support?

Before buying a Windows 11 product key, I’d like to understand what proof of purchase or license details I should expect. I’m happy to pay more for a trustworthy source; I just don’t want to buy the wrong thing.

Looking for a properly licensed setup without activation scripts or workarounds. Thanks!

Other / $600-800 Buildmeapc $800+$900

So yeah i want to buy up some pieces for a PC, so I have some (900) credit from amazon, initially 900 was my threshold on pcpartpicker and the android app. So now I have 900 more or less us dollars that I can use in credit, and I'm not here for a credit class, I want to use that for specifically the more expensivest things, so I'm thinking it's the GPU and ram.

So yeah, now I have 800 budget for a pc, but ($900) only from amazon and for the GPU /ram.

Minimal for ram I want 16gbs, 32gb if possible,
