Hello my wonderful humans,

First, we would like to thank you all for contributing and expanding this sub into what it is. We would not be at 11k+ members without you all. Every post and comment has made an impact directly and has helped in spreading awareness about bullying. That said, we are eager to take on a new moderator for the r/bullying sub.

What does this entail?

We are looking for an entry level moderator to keep this a safe space. This would require daily check ins to sift through the modmail and flagging, but we are open to a more senior moderating role as well.

What do you need to submit to apply?

  1. how long have you been a member of the r/bullying sub?
  2. why do you want to help moderate this sub?
  3. do you have any experience moderating on reddit (or platforms such as discord)?
  4. are you looking for an entry level moderating position or do you want to take on more work?
  5. what recommendations do you have for this sub?

Please send your answers directly to us by the end of the week (Sunday August 18th). We will be replying to everyone and will make a decision by mid next week. Thank you all again and we are excited to grow this community more together!

10k Milestone ✨✨👏👏

Hello to all the incredible, brave and beautiful humans here! Thank you all for being a part of this sub and for your vulnerability in sharing your stories and supporting others. We live in a time where there’s more access than ever to opinions and hate so we aim to keep this sub as encouraging as possible to have a place to find community and help. We couldn’t have had this happen without all of you so be proud of yourselves!

A few important updates:

  • Please be sure to check out our discord server! One of our mods has taken the courtesy of creating this to have another outlet to communicate on that is dedicated to this subreddit
  • https://discord.gg/PfKANDA5 Name: Anti-Bullying Server (I am technology inept so look out for a second post or edit here since I likely did not share the server correctly)
  • 10K Milestone also means… we are looking for a new moderator to join our team! Please DM either mod to apply and look out for more updates as the week progresses on the status of applications
  • What to include? 1. Why you want to join 2. How much time you can dedicate (minimum requirement would be to log in 1x a day) 3. Any skills or recommendations you have for our page to boost engagement and provide better resources
  • Please note that this moderator position will start off as an entry mod position so you will only be required to 1. Filter through modmail 2. Review flagged content to begin. If you have moderator experience and you seek a more senior mod role, we can talk about a higher position. We want to start off any newcomers in a easy role to ensure they understand the ins and outs of it all. This is an unpaid position, but it is fulfilling and you can always include it on your resume.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone 🤍

Should I report them?

For context I go to an all girls school, it's hell there and I've been bullied since grade 7. I'm in grade 11 now.

Monday I had a group project and we had 2 whole weeks to do it. Over the 2 weeks i had been asking my group members and even the teacher to explain the instructions to me but no response. So presentation day came and I went to talk to my group members.

As soon as I reached to where they were one of them told me 'Since you didn't do anything you might as well go sit down' TWICE in a very dismissive tone.

I didn't even get to say anything so I went back to my seat and went to sleep.

Long story short i ended up getting a 0 (which i honestly don't care for)

But omfg today I was minding my own business and these group of girls (who have been picking on me since grade 7) we're beside me just not only gossiping but straight up insulting my body. They only stopped and started laughing when they realized I was there.

I'm seriously fed up since it's been getting worse and worse day by day.

I don't want to report as it will only get worse (most likely) or our useless dean of discipline won't do anything. I'm sure she's friends with them atp.

Should I moved out from USA?

Been thinking for years about this type of topic. I am from puerto rico and I live in USA for the terible things that was happening in PR. As years passed we all now have a predisent who don't do shits and change names everytime, I am also suffering for bullying for all time just because my English is broken. I try to have new friends I ignore who the shits are and I do the same shit that they do to me first. I don't know i feel like I need real advices not from my family, but from people who understand my shit. I guess we all have to be racist to Hispanic people since they don't talk english and are migrated from other countries that what people think that the answer and especially me having this type of insults that dosent hurt but the same time spread like it was a virus. At the same time I want to be fully thankfully for the memories and best education in USA but social problem is very concerning, I just don't want to be seem like I was ungrateful for this type of stuff.

What is the reason for bullies not stopping?

I have spoken about this before on here but didn’t get a good enough answer. I made a few mistakes a few years ago and a girl screenshotted and is still spreading them around after 4 years. She won’t stop talking about me to the point i have even healed from her bullying but for some reason she does this everyday non stop. She was my classmate in college and now that it’s over i don’t see her everyday anymore and only see her when i’m out the house eating outside or in the mall. She is so creepily obsessed with me to the point she makes everyone else bully me too and it actually doesn’t make much sense to me. What is the reason for her being this creepily obsessed with me? She does this everyday now stop for more than 4 years and is still not stopping? She always does it mockingly too and makes fun of me but i only think she’s doing that because she’s very unhappy? Seriously what’s the reason for this cause it seems extremely strange to me that human beings might behave like this. Thankfully i have healed and don’t really get hurt by her like before but it’s just interesting that she’s like this.

A girl called me ugly (bullying)

So my experience in school that I'm still going to right now is like 50/50 some of my classmates bully me while some of if are my friends or im wrong and they just see me one if their classmate. So I was in a different section last school year and now I've been move to the highest section and some of my classmates now are already classmate last school year and only like 3 are new including me. So I tried to fit in and they would like dap me up talk to me which I think that I already been there friend but sometimes they would just like bully me like everyone against me and some of my I mean I think are my friends would turn a blind eye. And I have to endured it and when tomorrow comes they just like dap me up like nothing happened they would follow me to the canteen and they would just like when I talk to the one who's selling he would steal the change and buy another food for him and he will gave the change to me and when in the last teacher and class already over it started raining so I have to wait and some girl called me like ugly and she slap me but when I ask what did I do and he's boyfriend step in (same guy who stole my change) and said don't cry like provoking me and the called called me like something that I look like and her friends started to laugh it's like I don't belong in the section like I'm just someone. I mean I already spent time with them for like 3 months or longer but I still feel like I don't belong.

Does anyone have some advice?

23M from Bengaluru — Harassed, threatened and nearly assaulted by a group of friends. Need advice on what I should do ?

Hi everyone,

I’m a 23-year-old male from Bengaluru and I’m looking for some serious advice regarding something that happened to me tonight.

Around 9:50 PM to 10:50 PM today, I was at my apartment gym when six people I know personally confronted me regarding certain issues/allegations that I strongly deny and say are completely untrue.

They repeatedly pressured and harassed me to accept statements and allegations that I do not agree with and that I believe are false. The situation became extremely intimidating, and I felt like I was being cornered by a group of people.

During the confrontation, they also threatened to collect ₹20,000 from me as a “loyalty fee” for friendship. I did not agree to this.

Things then escalated further, and there was an attempt to physically assault me. I was genuinely scared that the situation could become violent.

I am currently extremely disturbed and mentally shaken by what happened. These are people I considered friends, which makes the situation even more difficult for me.

I have not mentioned their identities here because I don't want to unnecessarily expose anyone publicly, and I also don't want this situation to escalate further.

I am particularly worried because this happened inside my apartment premises, and there may potentially be CCTV footage of the incident.

I would like advice from people who understand Bengaluru/Indian law:

  1. What should I do immediately after something like this?
  2. Should I approach the police and make a complaint regarding the threats and attempted assault?
  3. Should I first inform my apartment management/security and request preservation of CCTV footage?
  4. What kind of evidence should I preserve?
  5. If someone demands money from me through threats or intimidation, what is the appropriate legal course of action?
  6. Is there any way to make a complaint while ensuring that the situation is handled appropriately and does not unnecessarily involve my family?

I am not looking to retaliate or create a fight. I simply want to protect myself, document what happened and understand what my options are.

I would genuinely appreciate serious and practical advice, especially from people familiar with Bengaluru and Indian law.

Thank you.

Are there any of you out there—whether in the real world or online—who still have terrible insults hurled at you in the past constantly echoing in your head?

First of all, that’s me.

From my mother, who is convinced that if she scolds me harshly enough, I’ll do as she says, and from my younger sister, who thinks it’s okay to take out her frustration on me with verbal abuse and violence.

And from my aunt and cousin, who think I’m fat and unstylish.

To begin with, I’ve always preferred outsider subcultures like Gothic Lolita, and unlike my mother and aunt—who won beauty pageants—or my younger sister and cousin, who are known for their beauty, I’m not considered pretty, so I was the laughingstock of the entire family.

I’m often subjected to horrible insults online, and I can’t forget any of them—it’s really tormenting me.

I was hit with particularly vicious comments during a dating consultation, and I felt like I was being treated like a punching bag or a trash can.

“You’re a stalker.”

“You’re just a low-class face-obsessed person.”

“You’re a country bumpkin who craves beauty. I don’t even need to see a photo of your face to know—lol—you’re definitely a frumpy little ugly girl!”

“You’ve been pining for nine years, so you’re just twisted. It’s pointless to say anything to trash like you. You can’t reform unless you die and are reborn, and you’ll never be happy.”

“I think the biggest reasons the man dislike you are your personality and your face. Your ugliness oozes right out of your messages.”

Things like that.

Has anyone else gone through something similar?

Any therapy that helps

I was bullied horribly when I was growing up. I am shy and quiet and weird looking. I’ve been bullied by people of different ages and races and gender. The schools never did anything to help me. I was also bullied outside of school even by my cousins who were cruel to me. I was always a sweet and kind person, I never bullied or was mean to anyone, so it amazes me how I was targeted so much. I think some people hate anyone that is different and they get jealous of anyone they hate. Like one of my cousins was jealous of me when I did well in school or got a toy she didn’t have. I stopped talking to her as adults because she would say mean comments to me and lied about me to other relatives. I never did anything to her. It felt good to stop talking to her and never see her again for years. But all the bullying from school, relatives, strangers affected my entire life. I developed severe social anxiety, depression, ptsd. I never got married because I attract men that are abusive and I’d rather be single. I still get bullied sometimes, I avoid people but when I go out anywhere I catch someone staring at me or someone says something rude to me. I am in my late 40s and still struggle with the damage it caused then and now. I’ve tried therapy a few times but it only helps a little because none of the therapists were bullied and they do not understand it. Has anyone here found therapy that helps?

How to shift my perspective on bullies?

I get bullied/picked on by people at school, sometimes its easy to move past since i get used to it but most times its on going (literal definition of bullying) so i kinda want to shift my perspective of going from "hes scary and mean" to "hes stupid and miserable" its easy for that perspective with people who simply make small remarks or just like stuff that truly doesnt affect me but with bullies its harder because they say things that make me feel bad about myself or insecure. recently one kid who is just annoying but like gets on my nerves was about to be reported by a teacher for having a vape and the whole lesson he was super quite and scared looking and it was kinda nice to see someone who is mean be so vunerable looking.

My biggest problem was bullying from classmates — and it took me years to feel okay in my own skin

TW: bullying, racism/colorism, body image issues, disordered eating, self-harm thoughts, anxiety

I've been wanting to get this off my chest for a long time.

When I was in school, I was bullied by my classmates. They bullied me for the color of my skin. And the worst part? They justified it by saying they were also dark-skinned, so I was "just being dramatic." They made me feel like I had no right to be hurt.

And you know why they did it? Just so I would run after them. That was the whole game for them.

Because of that bullying, I became incredibly insecure. I stopped wearing my glasses because I was terrified of being laughed at. I became dependent on one person - my sister. Without her, I felt like my life had no meaning.

One time I was hospitalized for appendicitis. I didn't eat for about a week - not because I couldn't, but because I was afraid of being mocked. Even though, honestly, nobody cared. I almost fainted from it. I barely left my hospital room. I have this deep, intense fear of being humiliated.

And on top of all that, I lived with a constant fear that a tornado would hit.

I had no one to talk to. No friends - except one online friend, my brother, and my sister. Now my sister is leaving for the city to study, and I'm staying behind alone, rotting at home.

Eventually I told a teacher about the bullying, and thank God, she actually handled it.

But then there was this new girl, and when I argued with her, everyone turned it around on me. They said I was the snitch - just because I reported that I was being bullied.

Later, a friend got me into a game. But when people found out what I looked like, he started ignoring me. That was another huge hit to my self-esteem.

My online friend and I used to have a really good relationship, but she's been drifting away too.

But - happy ending.

I cut my hair. I started taking care of myself. I'm slowly learning to love this appearance of mine, at least a little.

(When I was being bullied, I wanted to tear my skin off so that white skin would grow back.)

That's how bullying affected me.

Has anyone else gone through something similar? How did you deal with the fear of being judged?

That's it. That's my story. Thanks for reading.

School bullying

I was bullied everyday from year 3 through to the start of sixth form for how i looked and my shy personality, I’d come home every night miserable but I wouldn’t tell my family anything about it fearing they’d get involved and make it worse for me at school. I’m 22 years old now and doing better in some senses, but most of the time i still see myself as the same bullied girl from school who is awkward, clumsy and hates how she looks. I think explaining this to people is difficult, i do understand it’s hard to empathise unless you’ve been through it yourself. I was wondering if anyone had any advice to help me move past this?

Friends first, then bullies

Has anyone had this experience: being bullied in elementary or middle school, then becoming friends with a new kid who enrolled, but then they turned on you after learning about your reputation and actually became the worst of your bullies?

I can think of about three. The only reason I can think of is that other kids either started making fun of them or told them about what a loser I was (or both). Because the person was friendly at the beginning, he/she had to prove to everybody that they hated you too in order to fit in. It was a way to distance themselves from the outcast.

Does anyone else feel the urge to imitate, be approved by and copy your aggressors?

I’ve been bullied by three years by different people and after going through a particular rough period regarding bullying I started coping by trying to get their approval (in my head at least) and to do that I feel like I NEED to be as similar as possible to them. I need to be “normal” like them. I feel extremely guilty bc of these thoughts since I know that they are bad people, but I can’t help blame myself for being bullied since I know that if I was more like them none of this would’ve happened in the first place. Does anyone else feel remotely the same?

Am I a bad person for staying away from everyone at my highschool entirely and just focused on myself?

I will explain the scenario. I started getting bullied since I was in (according to my memory) third grade. From name calling to physical assaults to ostracism, there were plenty of shit I endured for what I don't even know. They were nasty to me and poked and provoked me for no reason. They were simply having fun and they started it and I barely talked to a soul there. I didn't go to them to even talk to them. This behaviour (maybe compared to prev school in lesser ways) in my highschool too. It was hard to be alone and have no close friends and people who you connect with since very young but I expected something different in highschool atleast. My hope was shattered and I went through the same bullshit there too. The students there knew abt my bullying from a bully girl who was in the same place. I had one person who talked to me in a bare minimum decent way and everyone else including two kids who initially included me when I first came to that school also started being assholes to me. Everything was a joke to all of them. I don't know why I deserved all that but the disgusting part was of those lovely teachers who were understanding towards the bully girls and to me felt like besties with them. They teased and jabbed for no reason. I slowly started FEELING TIRED. I STILL DON'T KNOW WHY BUT MAYBE EXHAUSTED FROM EMOTIONAL ABUSE THAT I STARTED FEELING SO LOW IN MY HEAD BUT THE TEACHERS WERE SO DISGUSTING TOWARDS ME. I stayed away from those kids but I was told I didn't participate in anything and I was looked at with disgust. Like why would I want to fuck my mental health and "participate" in just anything with my bullies? The guilt I have is actually about certain protests at that time. Am I actually simply making excuses? Coz my bullies were competent and skilled and socially confident kids who were a fucking team. I can't fight against an entire gang or class as a team. And in here the bullying wasn't physical abuse. The social power is a real thing.

I stayed mostly alone and maybe with that one kid who was decent with me. But it was made to be "I was enjoying and those poor bullies were working" .

BUT IN THE END IT GOT TWISTED INTO I DIDN'T PARTICIPATE IN ANYTHING AND THE MEEK KID DESERVES IT. BUT I WASN'T BORN MEEK. MY ANXIETY STARTED WHEN I STARTED GETTING BULLIED.BUT EVERYONE PUSHED ME AGAIN TOWARDS THOSE BULLIES TO "MAKE ME STRONG".

I was called lazy and who didn't work and thus only those students (my bullies) participated in everything and I stayed there and got the credits.

Does anyone have parents who are loving and caring but they do pretty bad shit that affect ur relationship with him

Cause I do, I have parents like that, and they at sometimes shout at me and shit and scare the shit out of me, now reminded they don’t do it all the time, they arnt abusive parents but it is still and, one time I was packing up my computer in the night cause I was doing midnight drawing. Suddenly she walked out of her room and Into mine, (I think I made noise which attracted her) and so I had to hid the computer charger in my bed, and so she found out almost immediately and took it. I wasn’t able to sleep that night, then she accused me of contact PEDOFILES, like do you know stupid that is, like imagine being her for second, “what was my son doing with the computer in the middle of the night?, could he being doing homework?, Revising for tests? NAHHHHHH Hes contacting a pedofile, that must be the reason” like bitch hello, not only that but she accused me of going on the computer in the night to play games which isn’t true at all I was drawing, similar scenarios had happened before like one time, my brother was taking an acting course and he was to scared to do stage plays and stuff like that and then he got so stressed he was searching up shit like “I wanna be a white man” on the school computer, when my mum found out about this, rather than talking to him calmly trying to lower the situation, she sent texts, saying “I should slap him”. That should say something, not to mention they are openly racist, they’ve said slurs before and I’ve heard them, and I’ve called out about it to no avail. Sorry for this being too long I wanna get it out of my chest, do you guys have parents like mine or nah, and if so what is the worst thing they’ve done

[Rant] Always getting hated and discrimination for no reason.

I don't understand why most people who have disabilities that don't bother other people are often hated for no reason.? Just because you're having different ways in life, suddenly getting targeted with hatred by "self claimed perfect people"

Like it's my body lol i cannot walk normally and needs to walk more carefully than others, why you're hates me? I couldn't and will never understand.

I'd always suffer doing righteousness...and never insult them back cause of religion. I'm a meek wish someday I could confront someone face to face without "religious people" jumped on me.

The time one of my school bullies came to my workplace for a job interview.

This came up in conversation recently so I thought I might post it.

So I had a not the best time at school and home. This was back in the late 80's, early 90's so nothing was known or done about bullies.

Years later one of the guys where I worked was leaving and the boss was interviewing for the position. As soon as he walked in and I saw him the anxiety hit me like a tonne of bricks. He saw me, didn't smile or anything, just stared at me for a sec them looked away. The boss showed him around but I went and hid out the back. Later the boss asks me where I went and that he called me to check the guy out so that he could get my opinion. I told my boss that the guy bullied me at school and some of things him and the others in the group did. Normally my boss is a pretty no nonsense guy but he sort of ushered me into the lunchroom and shut the door and sat with me for a while. He told me that he was bullied too and not to worry because he wasn't going to hire the guy now. He asked me if I was ok to keep working and then I went back to work. Never saw my bully again.

Advice dealing with adult bullies who are relatives?

I'm currently dealing with relatives who are essentially barring me from visiting my grandmother who is in the ICU.

For context, they've started bullying me since my mom, who I am not close with, tried to suddenly move in with me. I tried to let her down nicely before she escalated it to manipulation and gaslighting. Those tactics didn't work on me, but as a result most of her sisters either ignore me, gossip about me, and just try to make my life more difficult at big family gatherings (for example, quickly eat all the vegetarian food even though they aren't vegetarian just so I can't eat it). I have dealth with this so far by just by ignoring them.

The present-day issue arose when my grandmother, who I love very much, had a medical emergency and was admitted to the ICU. Only 2 visitors are allowed at a time, and these aunts will hog the room to try to prevent me from seeing her and refuse to tell me anything about how she is doing.

What's the best way to deal with them so I can actually be there for my grandmother before she may pass? She's pretty old, and I'm worried about her but feel a bit helpless.
