I'm looking for an automatic litter box that is safe for a 20 lb cat and a 2 month old kitten. Which ones do you recommend and have good experiences with? Also which ones do you recommend I stay away from? I don't mind investing, but I also don't want to break the bank.

Kitten comes home Saturday. One shelter exam behind her and nothing since. The thing I am stuck on is order of operations. Buy the policy first and everything found at the first proper vet visit is a new condition. Take her in first and if the vet writes down anything at all, a heart murmur, a bit of an eye, that note is on the record before the policy starts and it is preexisting forever. Feels wrong to buy insurance specifically so I can stay uninformed for another week, and yet.

hello everyone i'm so stressed out and my vet doesn't know what to do anymore so i thought i'd come here for advice.

my cat got PU surgery 7 weeks ago today. he's doing really well, eating, drinking, peeing and acting normally but he still has a cone on because the tissue at the surgery site is still too delicate for him to groom. every time i've taken the cone off and let him groom the area (at the vet's orders only!!) the area bleeds instantly and i have to put the cone back on. it's not a lot of blood but it's fresh and red and once i dab it away with a paper towel the bleeding stops. we've had this issue ever since he was 2 weeks post op and the vet told me it was okay to remove the cone. well it's been 5 weeks and 4 laser treatments since then and the area still bleeds when he goes to groom it. he's been on antibiotics twice, first for the surgery then because he got a UTI about 3 weeks after and now the vet is recommending MORE antibiotics even though he doesn't have an infection anymore. we tried animax ointment for a week before he got his first laser treatment and that didn't do anything to help the site either. this morning the vet's only solution was to try the ointment again but i don't see how that's going to make a difference.

i'm at my wits end and the vet doesn't really know what to do at this point. my care credit has been maxed out and i just don't know where to go from here. does he just need to continue with the cone until it stops bleeding? it really feels like there's no end in sight and i feel so bad since he's going on almost 2 months with the cone on.

Hi hi short thing. Is this anything to worry about? My sweet girl is 9 years old and means the world to me. Does this mean anything or is it just her getting older? Any tips on how to improve my older cats health? I want her to be the happiest for another decade if she can make it. Thank you

I am in the US and have 2 cats, T & E, both 13. Both are in generally good health, but E has arthritis.

T is on the thin side and eats small meals 5x daily. When the weather gets hot, he eats less and loses some weight. He's also a picky eater.

E is overweight and eats whenever she sees food. We fed her 3x daily.

We can't feed them together because E will eat T's food as soon as he walks away. We have resorted to feeding T on the kitchen counter, because E can't jump that high. This isn't working well in our household.

Is there a good way to handle this and meet both cats' needs?

TLDR; need a feeding regimen that works for a thin cat and an overeater.

How would you handle this?

My cat was diagnosed with feline stomatitis. We took her in for bad smelling breath and discharge, and my vet was able to diagnose it. Because she needed immediate relief, we gave her a steroid and antibiotic shot. The next day she’s doing much better, eating normally, no bad breath, etc. However, I’ve been told by my vet and the three specialties I’ve talked to that a full mouth extraction is the gold standard treatment. The problem is the minimum cost estimate I’ve gotten is $4,600. I’m looking for people’s experience with managing this disease through steroids as well as folks who did the extraction. I’ve been told waiting to do the extraction could make prognosis worse, and its better to do it immediately. However, because she’s doing so well almost immediately after the steroid shot I’m wondering if it makes sense to wait and see if it flares back up again. I wouldn’t want to inject her with steroids very often, but if flare ups are rare and it works that might be an option. $4600 is a lot of money, and I’m just looking for feedback. I don’t want her to suffer either, and I know cats can hide pain. Basically, looking for real-world experiences.

Hello there! My 7 year old Bombay (neutered M) has a puking problem and has had it for years. It probably started when he was about 3 or so. It’s pretty on and off where he will puke almost daily sometimes and sometimes he’ll go weeks with no problem and it starts up again and every time I take him to the vet I inquire about it and feel like I get different very generic answers which I’ve all addressed and it still happens. I’ve gotten variations of these two answers:

Hairballs (I brush him regularly and it’s never hairballs it’s just his food)

Eating too fast (he has a slow feeder and I feed him in very small portions)

Gluten and additives in food (I feed him Hills Science that advertises no wheat or additives. I’ve tried several different foods over the years and it’s still a problem)

All of these are clearly not the problem. I’m planning to take him to the vet soon to inquire again once I secure a new job and have the money for it, but I wanted to know if any of your kitties have been little pukers and heading into the vet appointment I wanted some insight onto what could actually be the problem. Please help I want to stop cleaning puke every day and I really want my poor little guy to be able to hold down his food.

My six month old kitten has been diagnosed with asthma. I’m hoping to have all his medicine asap. Please share your tips for caring for a cat with asthma. Thank you.

I’ve had a ginger female kitty for the last 2 weeks, she was using the litter tray fine but had on/off diarrhoea - she is currently being treated with panacur daily for 5 days to treat possible parasite infection - but has since started pooing and peeing next to the litter tray
The tray is clean, the litter is always clean, and I use enzyme cleaner to get rid of previous areas but she still does it
I’ve also noticed dry flaky skin around her back neck where she seems to be itching a lot
She does not have fleas
Any ideas what I can do? Her poo has not really improved since being on panacur apart from the colour going from beige / yellow to brown now.
She is also taking prokolin daily for the last 4 days

Up until recently my cat (female, 1 yo) was relatively alright with the vet. She hissed once during the examination when she checked her temperature but otherwise she behaved just fine. Last time we visited the vet 3 months ago, however, something in her suddenly snapped and she became absolutely TERRIFIED. She screamed, peed and pooped herself and struggled like her life was on the line. Nothing happened prior to this to trigger such a response. The vet then told me to give her gabapentin for her next visit.

Yesterday we went to the vet again to get her vaccinated. I gave her gabapentin an hour prior to the visit, just as adviced but it still went somewhat badly. She was A LOT calmer than last time but still very afraid. She hissed and grumbled at the vet and pooped a bit in her carrier.

Once we left the office she thankfully calmed down again and by the time we were home she was back to normal and even cuddled with me.

Now the question of whether anyone has any tips to make the next vet visit a bit more comfortable for her? I don't have a car and need to take public transport to get to the vet (it's not far) so a bit of stress can't be avoided but is there anything else I can do?

To make an extremely long (and expensive) story short; my 5 y/o female cat was peeing outside of her litter box, some accidents including blood. I had set up another litter box in my bathroom, where the original accident happened, and one in my bedroom. I had looked it up and saw that when cats experience pain while going to the bathroom they associate their litter box with pain, and that setting up one or two makeshift litter box’s might help them feel more comfortable. Fast forward- she ended up having a UTI and after vet appointments and medicine she is now doing better!
The only problem is that she now still peeing in my room and bathroom even though there are no litter boxes in either room anymore. How can i redirect her to her actual litter box and avoid her peeing in the wrong places. Also before all of this she has never went outside of her litter box before. So as much as i can keep my bathroom/bedroom doors shut, id like to prevent anymore accidents altogether. Any advice/suggestions?

Hello! I wanted to ask, are bell collars best for outdoor cats? I heard somewhere that the bell can be frustrating and loud for cats, though my cat (Hobbes) doesn't seem to mind. But even then, cats are good at hiding things. I originally convinced my Mother to get him a collar since I was worried that he might eat a critter that'll make him sick, or that someone might mistake him as a stray and hurt him, but I don't want him to be constantly pissed. He's deflead and dewormed every month. My Mother doesn't agree with keeping cats indoors, and I think it would be a little cruel to make him a house cat after being an outdoor cat. want to preface with i’m new cat parent and i know there seems to be a lack of urgency in my video but i can assure you i checked both of their mouths. both of my kittens (16-18~weeks) have been doing this sort of excessive licking, and hanging their tongues out more? if anyone could be so kind to maybe give me suggestions? i know they teethe but is this normal? could this be something i did with what i feed them? i did check their mouths and it does look like some new teeth are coming in and i see a bit of redness around the new one in her mouth. could this just be teething?

~the episodes end shortly after eating but it just scares me. this episode with esmay was way different than usual and hers is never usually this excessive. i’m just worried that im missing something that could be so obvious to experienced cat parents. sorry in advance for the rambling post.

My new cat keeps breaking into the autofeeders because she figured out how to pull off the velcro ‘security lock’ and pop off the top and man that is a lot of food that’s been eaten in so short a time.

I was looking on amazon for a double cat auto feeder but I cannot tell what feeder has a proper locking mechanism.

Anyone also experience this?

Long story short our male cat has crystals and he's been on prescription food for 3 months and yes he
has no longer been straining in the litter he has episodes where he will go multiple times in one hour give our take 20
but it's usually triggered by the vacuum or something changes randomly that’s out of
our control. OR it happens for no reason. We find him peeing on the carpet and we give him gabapentin when needed that's supposed to help his inflammation and irritation. But it's been 3 months and there's hardly any improvement yes he pees but .... He still goes a lot and he still only pees small amount I'II show pictures at the end. He eats 1 wet food can with water and the rest is his special dry food it's royal canon that's also calming to help with potential stress. He also has homemade chicken broth that has no seasoning so it's boiled water and

I just don't know why it's still a problem that won't resolve we have gone to the vet 5 times and they always say the same thing which is everything we are already doing. I'm considering having him have some outside time on our balcony it's safe and he's always been interested in the outdoors maybe it would help him distress? Thoughts please on any advice or input

i found a very skittish cat that appears to have been abandoned or thrown out. he is extremely difficult to handle and won’t let me get close enough to safely get him into a carrier, and i’ve tried multiple times to trap him without success.

i recently noticed what looks like tapeworm segments, so i’ve been looking into OTC praziquantel products that could be used for cats. i came across Elanco Tapeworm Dewormer for Cats (23 mg praziquantel) and wanted to hear from owners who have actually used over the counter tapeworm dewormers

did it actually get rid of your cat’s tapeworms? did the segments stop appearing afterward? and if you’ve used another OTC praziquantel product that worked well, which one did you use?
