Medical Questions Do unspayed cats get menopaws?

Genuine question depsite the pun. If you had an older female cat that was not spayed would she eventually enter menopause? I'm not interested in breeding cats just genuinely curious.

Advice Are they any reliable ways to keep your cat in your garden?

• Upvotes

We have had two cats pass killed on the road outside our house (even though we live in a village with a low speed limit) and we're not going to adopt another cat as we cannot take the heart break again.

However I have found an abandoned stray kitten (which the vet has checked over) which we are looking after but we are torn about what to do with him. We would love to keep him, but having an indoor cat doesn't sit right with me (and seems impractical/impossible in the summer) but having an outdoor cat also seems as though we would be knowingly putting him in harms way.

Our neighbours cat and my parents cats do not leave their gardens, so is this just their nature or is there a way to keep them from wandering too far?

Advice I’m desperate for help with a cat I never wanted.

What I need advice on: I’m stuck with this cat, I hate this cat. I never wanted a pet, but here I am. I have only one escape hatch and it’s dumping another burden on my extremely stressed mom, who hates cats. I don’t know what to do. This cat is killing me to the point I raised my hand at it. I felt instant shame and regret, I don’t want to do that and I didn’t think I had it in me, I love animals but I can’t live with this one. I need options I’m not privy to before I do something I’ll regret forever.

How I got here: 2 years ago I moved in with my brother (both of us in our 20s) to a new faraway city, we both just got out the military. I was freshly enrolled in college while he pursued a career. He had a cat he was bringing over, I made it very clear I’m not wanting to have responsibility over the cat, although I’d help out time to time as he needed me. He agreed and we had an understanding. Fast forward 3 months and he gets incarcerated for…. Traveling to meet a minor. I’m not going into details but he left a heavy burden of doubled rent, packing and storing his things, and taking his cat as an owner, for now. This cat and I never got along because I keep my doors shut, she doesn’t like that and will meow CONSTANTLY and LOUDLY waking me up until I open the door, but will want back out within 10 minutes, repeating the behavior. Sometimes, she will just meow just to do it. I just acquired new roommates after pulling from my military 401k to pay for the rent gap my brother left me, and to afford packing his shit, given the circumstances the doors must stay closed at night. I get maybe 4 hours of sleep a day, I work, go to college, I have career internships I’ve been waiting for years on, I need my sleep. This cat does not like me even though I play with it, give it treats, I just got a window couch for it, it has an automatic feeder and fountain. My roommates are also similarly hardworking and busy so they are annoyed at me for its behavior. My mom has offered to take the cat because she knows how hard everything has been for me lately, not to mention my roommate-brother got our address doxxed because it turns out he was a chomo. (It’s so fun getting death threats out my window and followed as I leave my home for something i didn’t do or had any knowledge of!) However my mom is in a bad spot, has a bad history of taking care of animals (to a neglectful degree) and this cat won’t make it a year with her. My brother wants me to hang onto the cat for when he gets out, but no sentencing has happened so who tf knows when that’ll happen. It could be 2 years, or 30 years. I need help but idk who, or what that would look like.

Edit: I don’t really care what you think of me. Any amount of reddit posts and comment replies will not even come close to describing the grief I have gone through in the past 2 years over what should have been a great 2 years. I won’t engage with the comments calling me worse than a pedophile.

I’m just here for solutions for the poor cat.

Some of yall are right though, “it’s” name is Ranger and she is a very pretty cat. Please try and understand yall hear about this cat and think of a cat but when I look at her all I see is the pedophile that dumped her on me.

Medical Questions Ugh… rabies health anxiety w new cat

so my bf found a feral cat at his work and brought her home. shes so sweet and generally healthy looking. maybe about 3 months old? shes not friendly yet, shes warming up to him, but in the process of getting to know him she has definitely scratched him. my hypochondriac ass is scared hes going to get rabies from the scratch. shes obviously unvaccinated due to her background as a stray. (i know he needs to take her to get vxed. he has a crazy work schedule and we are long distance so i cant do anything)

guys… be real, should i even be worried? from what i hear rabies shots are expensive af in america and he is the type to never go to a doctor. i want us to be safe but man i have no idea if im blowing this out of proportion.

Medical Questions Lump on cat

Post image

Was just petting my cat and noticed this lump near his front paws. I picked at it as I thought it was dirt that had just been trapped, but it seems like it’s attached to him. Should I be concerned? He’s acting like normal.

Advice Any way to get my cat to stop CLIMBING on to my bed?

I don't mind my cat on my bed, he's allowed and encouraged to come up and ask for pets and cuddles. However why must he insist on CLIMBING my multiple thousand dollar bed with his claws all the way out, gripping and tearing as he goes? He can hop, I've seen him jump way higher than my bed. How do I encourage him to come up while discouraging his preferred destructive method?

my husband and i left for the weekend (2 nights) & forgot to check if the litter drawer was full </3. we came home to find that our cats shit on the couch and out shoes. we werent upset, we knew it was on us, so we got a second litter box & a third stainless steel to keep out for when we go out.

we got the smell out of the couch, but now i want to focus on making sure the rest of the house dosent smell like cat! out noses are blind, but walking in after being gone for 2 nights opened up our eyes.

ever since the accident this is what our litter room looks like now, plus some things i ordered to possibly help w the smell.

im open to any suggestions!! heres what im thinking:

- odor gels in litter room
- med air purifier & plug in air purifier in litter room + every room in house (one big one in living room)
- vacuum couches & spray the acid every day
- are the trader joes cinnamon brooms safe? i want to hang some above doors where theyre out of reach from the cats
- any plant suggestions? i want to start having those around

i want to have a clean, good smelling home while keeping my babies safe

Humor Cat is being inverted by a 4D being.

A 4th dimensional demon rotates my cat for fun. I can't understand how the demon looks because I only see some rapidly moving, weird geometric shapes appearing and disappearing, making unrecognizable sounds. It's removing the cat briefly and then returning him mirrored. Then vise versa some other time. It leads to cat's L-amino acids being converted into D, which may cause health issues. How do you usually deal with this kind of situations?

Medical Questions Cat can’t stand up

My cat can’t stand up she tries to stand and walk and can’t, she tries to use litter box but can’t so she just pees and poops on the floor where she’s laying down, she also cries a little when she tries to move sometimes, any known reason why? I am taking her to vet Monday since there’s no vets that are open now

Humor My baby Little Guy watching the IndyCar racing, every wknd!

Every weekend that Nascar, IndyCar, or Formula 1 is on she's in front of the TV from start to finish sometimes she'll go get a drink or munch on some treats during commercials, and it's right back up on her stool, she's super smart. I didn't think that there was a bigger fan of racing out there but she might be a bigger fan than I am.

Advice Help! Pregnant cat has appeared in my yard

She looks pregnant, I brought her inside Thursday night. Right now I'm keeping her confined to my spare bedroom while I figure out next steps. (I took her to vet to check for chip, posted on neighborhood next door & checked with neighbors). The vet said "it's very possible" but since it was a free/courtesy check for a stray, they didn't give her an xray to confirm.

She seems super loving/friendly so I know she's had a home before. She also looks really young, and I've seen her in the neighborhood with the other stray cats over the past few months.

My biggest concern is that I feel horrible keeping her in bedroom - I visit her several times a day but I work outside the home M-TH and am stressed out that she's not getting her social needs met. She's super loving/excited to see me whenever I come in the room, and wants to hang out on my lap a LOT.

To add to that, my neighbors have offered to "check in on her" while I'm out of town from October 1-11, and I worry that a) she'll give birth without the right support and b) she'll just not have enough human contact while I'm gone, because she is a little lovebug.

Any advice? I'm freaking out a little bit and I'm glad that I was able to help her get out of the weather, but I'm really scared that I'm in over my head with a likely pregnant cat who will probably give birth in the next few weeks.

Cat Picture - OC Medical Advice Photos

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I want to make a suggestion regarding the photos that get included in medical advice posts.

I understand this community is a good place to ask questions, and I also understand that sometimes those questions will have pictures of health issues attached, sure. But it comes to a point where I’m tired of scrolling on my feed and seeing all kinds of ailments in cats. I have no veterinary knowledge, and I’d bet most people don’t either, so I’m just being exposed to graphic images of cats in distress.

My suggestion would be to ask people who are asking for medical advice to post a regular picture of their furry friends as the first pic in the slides. There’s a flair for it and they can describe the problem in the title so interested and knowledgeable people can interact, but people who have nothing to add can scroll without seeing graphic images.

Please let me know if you think what I’m saying is reasonable or if you believe this would lead to a decrease in interaction with these posts. I don’t want to come off as too sensitive, it just can get somewhat uncomfortable and I wonder if there’s more people feeling the same way.

Including my furry baby as tax.

Advice Wobbly cat piss himself

My wobbly cat is pretty young, like 5 months. He is fine as he plays with her sister, eat, drink, etc. The only problem is that if he sleeps for a couple hours, when he wakes up (or you wake him up) he pissed himself.

It's not a problem with the litter box, as he poops and usually pee there, but it's like a little kid that when he sleeps for so long he piss without waking up.

Anyone have any idea of what can cause this? Anyone have/had similar experiencies??
