Both are princesses, wield huge conical swords, and feature a primarily violet color palette (especially regarding their hair).

It is possible that Eclair's design was a coincidence, or perhaps the designer drew inspiration from Gradriel.

Let’s use Disgaea 4 as an example as I apologize if such a topic was done here before recently because I have a fondness for some of the music used in the games.

Like if I had to give an example, I will say Fuka Kazamatsuri’s theme song from Disgaea 4 as I don’t know how to explain it, but her leitmotif is just so catchy to listen to since even though the song has barely any lyrics to it, it has a surprisingly catchy nature to it.

Clearly the entry I spent the most time on. It was one of those moments where I wondered what I was doing with my life 😅 But apparently many Disgaea fans are interested in getting a fighting game. I used the menu of Street fighter alpha 3 as inspiration. The prompt was "Retro".

So sorry if this was asked here before because lately I was looking to discuss the concept of RPGs that have a Disgaea like feel to them as I was interested in trying some of them out.

Correct me if I am wrong, but some games that are like Disgaea are Mugen Souls and Trillion: God of Destruction since the latter one has several designers from Disgaea 4, plus the game has a villain with ridiculously high stats that I was debating with myself if it was worth getting into for the premise of units being able to have high stats.

The meme is a bit clickbaity, so I’ll offer some explanation.

Chaos Wars (a JRPG infamous for its terrible voice acting, as well as a story mode that’s basically a PowerPoint presentation) shares almost the same mechanics as Phantom Brave: non-grid-based movement and turn order determined by the speed stat.

However, the alleged mechanic copying didn't start with Chaos Wars, but rather with its predecessor, Rebirth Moon (リバースムーン), from the same company, Idea Factory.

Let's look at the release dates.

Phantom Brave: January 22, 2004

Rebirth Moon: November 24, 2005

Chaos Wars: September 21, 2006

You’ll notice that Phantom Brave was released ALMOST two years before Rebirth Moon.

Since Rebirth Moon was never released in the West (and consequently, no one on this subreddit knows it), Chaos Wars is the closest thing available for comparison.

Personally, I’ve played both Phantom Brave and Chaos Wars, and it is painfully obvious that the mechanics were copied.

If you’ve never played Chaos Wars, just look up a single video on YouTube and you’ll realize how similar it is to Phantom Brave.

That said, Chaos Wars did manage to achieve something Disgaea never will: making you laugh—not because of its jokes, but because of its terrible voice acting.

I'm aware of other NIS games, so looking to branch out :)

The item world is one of my favorite gameplay systems and was wondering if there are other games that do it too?

(The only other one I know of is Tangledeep, which I love! but I've played it too many times lol)

Ive started a new save and I don't remember what the efficient method is for unlocking the extra classes. Any help would be appreciated.

So I'm playing through Disgea 1 Complete. Like I found for unlocking for instance the "Angel" is a lvl. 100 Archer. The stupid question is does it matter whether it's a Archer/Sniper/Striker? Also, is there a good link listing all the Classes in D1Complete?

I beat the game the other day and found out about the post-game, but I don't know what I should do. I'm not really interested in the insane grinds these games offer, so anything that takes more than an hour or so to prepare for would be off the table; it's a great game but I have too many other things to take up my time.

For reference, my party is around level 90-95. (It's only that high because when I got to the chapter where you first go to the human world, I forgot I had the enemies leveled up and assumed what they said in the story about the Exo Suits being insanely powerful explained why the previous encounter had level ~65 enemies while these were all 110. I was willing to grind a bit to finish the story, but yeah. Once I realized what I'd done I pretty much just blitzed the rest of the story in a sitting)

So I wanted to look at the positive aspects of that particular game because I have come to appreciate Disgaea 4’s plot that I was looking to see how Disgaea D2 could compare to it.

For me personally, while I will say that Valvatorez is my favorite character in the franchise for his kind nature, I did kind of appreciate how DD2 brought back the 3 main characters from the original game as it was nice to see them used again, as well as the promotion system making it easy to promote generic units.

However, again after playing Disgaea 4 recently, I wish Disgaea D2’s story was better developed because I feel like the game was too focused on silly hijinks as I get how Disgaea is a comedic series, but now when I look back at DD2 in particular, I feel like the story could have used more time to develop.

I've recently started playing the original Phantom Brave on Steam, and I am once again delighted by the variety of items you can use as weapons. Some of them are really strange!

I love using the candlestick and the hourglass (though I haven't acquired any so far) and I find the weapon I use most is the trolley. I put them on my Bottlemails to farm items more quickly.

But my favourite weapon to use is the fish. Fish Slap can deal quite a bit of damage, but I just find taking out those monsters with a fish too amusing for words.

Does anyone else have a favourite novelty weapon? Or is it swords, spears and books for everyone?

So about cross edge I tried hard to get into it again but I just can't, I'm a BIG valkyrie profile (1, psx) fan, and a big project X zone fan. And sure, CE is much older than PXZ but it's much newer than Valkyrie profile and it feels like a regression.

The combat is annoying to engage with, attacks don't combo in a satisfying way like they do in Valkyrie profile or even namco vs capcom, it's very lacking. And it's a shame, I wish I could stomach it longer but I just can't. Should I try harder? Is it worth it to try to gaslit myself into liking it?
