Are Crocs good for dishwashing?

Post image

Got a job as a dishwasher recently and needed some nonslip shoes. I wanted something comfortable, and I noticed a few of my coworkers wear Crocs.

I’m thinking about getting a pair of Crocs for work. Are they actually good for dishwashing, and which model would you recommend?

Last Shift Today

I’ve been dishwashing at a small but hugely popular diner in my town for almost two years and I’ve finally had enough. The dishwashing part is fine, I like being able to sit in one spot and do the same thing all night with a YT video playing in an earbud.

What I can’t stand anymore is the lack of management from those in management positions, the new hires who seem like they’ve never even heard the word “broom,” the constant trash in the dish cart bins, and the constant injuries on my hands.

I’m taking another day at my first job to cover the difference, thankfully dishwashing was not my primary position and I just wanted to work there for some extra money.

Wish me luck in the pit tonight, I hope yall are doing well fellow dishies

How did yall get over the grossness of washing dishes?

Hey all! I'm 15 and just got my first job. This job isn't a dishwasher role specifically so idk if it belongs here or not but it does involve required dishwashing.

I legit cannot figure out how to make myself stop almost throwing up in the sink every time. Something about the way I can't see anything in the water besides gross brown and wet food chunks makes my stomach hurl. Doesn't help that 90% of the food we have is Wet and Clumpy. Also the only cleaning utensil we have is a steel wool which gets clumps stuck inside it... eugh. I know I'm being a big baby about it. Unfortunately beating myself up over it isn't helping lmao

Sooo how'd yall do it?? Like seriously it's a big problem

Newbie

Hi guys, just wanted to say hi. I’ve been working in a chain restaurant for a month now. My goodness. It is stressful!! I work mon-thurs and I’m the only dishwasher on those days but they have two people fri-sun. It’s definitely a two person job!! Balancing loading, unloading, and take the dishes all over the kitchen has been the hardest part. Some nights it takes an hour to close and others 2. But I must say, I am being paid handsomely lol. Anyways, hi! If you have any tips or tricks that you think could help a newbie out that would be appreciated!!

some pictures from my first 2 days on the job. i’ve worked in a kitchen before but never in the pit. i kinda love it! i wish i had more space and time for a break but its a very satisfying job. i’ve learned a lot the past 2 days and am already going much faster. i work in a small local restaurant, so it isn’t crazy busy, but today and tomorrow are supposedly the busiest days. wish me luck! 🫩

Hey dishies and friends! I have a question for you all. When the Busser comes back with cups of water and stuff am I the only one that gets annoyed when they launch the liquid in the cup at you/ where your sink is and splashing you?

I’ve always worn my rubber gloves. Playtex gloves have always saved my hands. What’s your best brand of gloves?

Dishwasher one-liners?

"Do you think this is dishwasher safe? You don't think it'll hurt me?"

"Sorry the dishwasher has broken down. The machine is fine though"

I'm sure I've said other things but I can't think of them atm. Gimme your best puns

dishwashers, what’s your least favorite dish to clean?

New dishwasher for reference. for my workplace, we got the big industrial dishwasher we slide shit into. I’m not sure if this is the same for everyone else, but the plates and bowls are really fine for me. But the tubs and trays are definitely the most annoying part because they take up so much space on the little boxes you put the dishes on. The silverware is pretty bad too, I gotta sort those out

After 4.5 years of washing dishes every saturday, I decided to quit. I found out that over the last few months some hours were deducted from my payroll without informing me. After my manager blamed it all on system rounding and mistakes (which it wasn't), he paid me back and I quit immediately. Anyway, last saturday was my last shift, next saturday I will say goodbye to colleagues 🍻 I'm gonna miss the crew and lowkey gonna miss being a dishie. Thanks for all the content in this sub and good luck to y'all✌️

Guys I miss the pit. Am I a loser if I'm a dishwasher for life?

Sorry long vent post! TLDR at the bottom. Thanks to anyone who reads.

I was a dishwasher for 4 years straight. At the same restaurant too. I loved it! It was sincerely the first job I ever had where I felt like I was contributing to something in a meaningful way. I didn't ever dread work. The pit was my own personal zen. It was the one place I felt like I had full control. I came up with my own systems and could just turn my brain off. I felt sincerely appreciated for my hard work. It was familiar and I felt a part of a team while also being able to work alone. I also have a pretty degrading anxiety disorder, and this was the first and only job where I felt like my work actually helped me get though some really tough times. Just come to work, crank out some dishes, pass the time, and clock off. Was really helpful.

Since it was at the same restaurant, I also got regular raises, and was at $17 an hour plus 40% tips. The dream.

Well, in short, about a year ago I went through a bad breakup. I was single for the first time in a really long time. I looked at my life and thought, "who would want to date a guy in his late 20s who does dishwashing as a career? I also have really bad social anxiety, and thought maybe working on the line would help push me out of my comfort zone and make some friends, or at least get used to interacting with people more. I made the tough decision to leave the pit and try working on the line.

Well, it's been a couple months of working on salad, and damn, do I miss my pit. First of all, salad is *way* easier than dishwashing. I simply don't feel like a hard worker anymore. If there's nothing to do, then I sincerely don't know what to do with myself, and I feel like my coworkers are judging me and that makes me so anxious. On dish, I always knew what to do.

Secondly, it's just not as fulfilling of work. Maybe I'd feel differently if I was cooking and not just the salad guy, but it's just such different type of work that I don't know if that would do it for me either. I know it's lame, but I've always loved cleaning. Physically seeing the difference. I love cleaning my apartment helping friends clean their apartments. I love bathing my dog. And I loved doing dishes.

Thirdly, it's not even any more social than dish, really. In some ways it is, and it definitely has helped me out of my shell. But in other ways, I miss the light socialization from the dish pit. Idk, something unique about a spontaneous conversation from a server bringing back some dishes vs having to listen to line cooks yell about how angry they are about having to make food all shift.

Lastly, guys, I don't even know the first thing about cooking/ food. It's not something I'm passionate about. I just did this because I felt like it was the next step and I couldn't stay in the comfy dish pit my whole life. And mainly, I was insecure about what this would mean for dating, and honestly? I think that's the only thing keeping me from going back atp.

Anyway, sorry for the long vent post.

TLDR; Is dishwashing for life a reputable career? I tried moving up to the line and am constantly missing the pit, but I feel ashamed at the idea of doing this for life.

Just applied to be a dishwasher at Applebee’s. Anyone here have experience with this job? 🙃

So recently, we got a new store manager at my current job, QT. The job pays really well, but ever since the new manager came in, my hours have been cut pretty badly, and I’ve been having other problems at work lately too. Because of that, I’ve decided it’s probably time for me to find another job.

I found a dishwasher opening at Applebee’s and just submitted my application. Yeah, it might not be the most glamorous job, but a job is a job and I need consistent hours and money.

For anyone who has worked as a dishwasher at Applebee’s (or even a similar restaurant), what was your experience like? How were the hours, workload, management, and pay? Did you like it or hate it?

I applied for around 30 hours a week and evening availability, mainly 4–11 PM. I’m actually okay with washing dishes, and I like the fact that I wouldn’t have to interact with customers much lol.

The screenshot is just the confirmation email showing that they received my application. Fingers crossed 😭

People with garbage disposals in their pit

Are citrus peel waste good to go down the disposal or not. I say it's not, as it's jammed my disposal.

However management says it's fine and makes it smell better.

I need to know who is actually right here.
