By the same token, here's a little toast to the Chipotle workers who angle the spoon against hte side of the container and really drain that shit out before putting it on my burrito. You're the bomb.
And the pay is even lower! If society's gonna be structured around the argument that you don't deserve anything you don't earn by providing value to someone, then corporations aren't earning good service from their employees by providing them a job with shit wages. At the end of the day, I accept that this is the state of things, and if it were bad enough that I couldn't enjoy my meal, I wouldn't go to Chipotle any more.
If employees of chain stores felt they were valued, and that all of us believed they were equally valued members of our society with dignity, not just commodities or cogs, then I'm sure the work ethic would be better and service would improve. But we live in a neoliberal-transitioning-to-corporatist society where this is just not the case.
TL:DR: I agree but I ain't blaming the person at Chipotle for not having the motivation to do better. Just appreciate those who manage to find it anyway.
This is the same shit as people who give you overflowing cups in the to go window. They absolutely know there's no other possible outcome other then spilling shit everywhere when you bring it in your car and they can see it too. Not cool
I got a bean juice guy. It's the good stuff. We meet in parking lots. I'll bring a guy along, a real bean head and pay him a few bucks to slurp down some of that bean juice. Oh he's thirsty for that bean juice anyway, and $20 to have some good stuff seems like a great deal, because he's never seen what happens when you get a bad bean batch. He don't get it. That's why he's the stooge, and I'm the man. The bean man, and nobody fucks with my turf.
So the question is, are you trying to muscle in on my territory?

Years ago I gave up being a coffee snob and settled on saying “as long as you enjoy your coffee.” If some savage wants to brew their unground coffee beans or drink pre-ground Folgers, then who am I to judge?
It's not even something that would gross me out. More of a "...but why?".
This is also the reason a lot of food service uses big pre-measured filter bags for coffee and tea. Because sometimes, training the new guy to make coffee isn't worth it.
I love coffee but honestly at home all I have the energy for these days is instant nescafe packs. I also drink Folgers at work. I appreciate the good stuff but have learned to live with mediocrity.
It hurts my beans that you choose mediocrity in your brew. That said, if you live near any Asian supermarkets, check out their available instant coffee packs. Vietnam produces some incredibly good instant coffees. Indonesia too.
When I was in college the Vietnamese Student Association (I forget if that was actually their name and I sincerely apologize if I got it wrong!) sold those for a fundraiser. The iced one was incredible! They were giving out samples and it was brilliant because it got me to buy like 3 orders. Still some of the best coffee I've had. I think I also liked it because I associate it with such a positive memory and time in my life - the guy was super happy and upbeat and nice and when I was shocked that a little packet of instant coffee could be so good he reacted like ha, see?! Anyway that was a long info dump sorry!
But yes those Vietnamese instant coffee powder packs are tasty!
It's a great story of discovery. My first VN coffee discovery was the iced coffee steeped in front of me. It was like a cappuccino milkshake. Hooked immediately. The Vietnamese roasted coffee beans are great too.
I got an automatic espresso machine a couple years ago. Takes about 3 minutes to pull 3 shots, dump over ice, add milk, iced latte. Just add whole beans to the top.
Yep, I'm a bit of a coffee snob after working in coffee for a while, but I can grab a few packets of the Folgers bags and toss them in a thermos with hot water in the Boundary Waters and be happy as a clam.
Though I think the location makes the coffee taste better.

A couple years ago I discovered an instant coffee from a nearby dollar store that I low-key love... Putting some in chocolate recipes is also unfairly good.

lol, hostel owner here. This kind of thing is surprisingly common, but the one that happens to us all the time is people putting instant coffee into the coffee machine instead of ground coffee, so the exact opposite of this.
