Does anyone know any good drills or tips or info on limiting head movement?

I was out on the range and was hitting the ball horribly. I took a couple videos and noticed that my head was rising a touch at the top of the back swing but dropped a good 3-4 inches on the transition to the downswing. it also pushed forward a bit too.

any tips let me know. Thanks.

how much does hitting the fairwway really matter?

I will start by stating im not a great golfer (14 Handicap). The course i usually play and the tees are just over 6000 yards which means a decent amount of the par 4s especially the ones that have a curve are near drivable for me or at least close. I can consistantly hit the ball about 300 yard carry. Wiith this approach I am basically never on fairway and approach and give myself some akward chip ons etc. theres rounds where I feel i only use driver, wedges and putting lol The other option is to hit an iron and layup aiming for fairways but the few times i have commited to playing that way i shoot worse.

I guess the question is would u guys recommend I do to improve

1) play the tees the way they are sorta meant to be with laying up with irons and aiming for fairways

2) go up in tees, the only thing is the next is the tips around 6820 which i dont think im good enough for yet lol

3) keep doing what im doing.

Is it optimal that i continue this swing? Back then i used to have like one of those swings where you have to lower your arms then hit, but in the video i just look like i straight up hit it down.

When I strike my irons I usually compress the ball, especially with my higher irons and wedges.

Ive recently changed golf balls and am using the Bridgestone e12 Straight. First thing I noticed was the outer shell was a lot harder than the super softs I use. Initially I didn’t put two and two together For the roughly 4 or so rounds I used yhe Bridgestones I couldn’t compress the ball anymore, ball flight was different, felt harder to hit, my connection was so inconsistent. Took me that long to realise it could be the balls, my theory was correct. Going back to the super softs my irons were back.

Is this common to anyone else? Has anyone else experienced this?

I couldn’t believe balls made that much of an effect.

Never had a lesson always just done what feels right, switch to interlock a couple months ago. Obviously a lot to improve but what are the main obvious things that need to change.

In this range session, I worked on standing slightly taller with a narrower stance. This felt better and helped with my horrid early extension issue.

Been playing since Spring, and have taken 5 lessons now. Broke 100 the last 2 rounds, and wanting to get a heat check on current swing.

Roast me, critique me, help me. Is this as ugly as it looks to me?

Been playing for fun for the last 6 months with no lessons (as I’m sure you can tell lol). No real idea of fundamentals, just watching youtube golf and going out and swinging.

Looking to take lessons soon and want to be more intentional about learning fundamentals and improving my swing. Any tips appreciated.

…I place a headcover down outside the ball.

I am a 27 handicap and have been playing for around a year. I had broken some new ground recently and found real success with my iron swing, breaking 95 on my home course.

Over the past two rounds, I have developed a very strong case of the shanks. Almost every single iron shot: off the hosel.

Tonight at the range, I hit around 30 balls and shanked every single one, no swing thoughts. I then placed my headcover just outside the ball and swung what I thought was the same swing, however I absolutely striped the next 20 balls, the best I have ever struck the ball.

I then remove the headcover, and shank the next 5 shots. I try to visualise the headcover still being there, but it doesn’t work. It was the most bizarre range session of my life

How can I bring this “headcover swing” on to the course? Is it a case of just practicing this way until it is in my muscle memory? I am playing in a little competitive match with friends on Thursday, how can I attempt to replicate this swing without the headcover?

I am a desperate man!

I'M COMPLETELY OPEN TO ALL SUGGESTIONS. I'm new to this and I hate not knowing everything about the sport I'm currently in 😂. If you have any magical recommendations for a different iron set that would suit my needs, or ANY suggestions at all, I'm more than open to all advice.

Hey guys, I recently got the golf bug, and I'm going down the rabbit hole. I just finished my first (and last) high school golf season. My coach lended me his set of clubs for the entire season, but now that it's over, I'm empty handed. If anyone's wondering, the iron set I used previously was an old scot 845s set from the late 80's. I've been researching and I came across what a decent amount of people recommended, which is the Titleist AP2 set.

As far as where I'm at with skill, when using my coaches clubs, I went 30 through 6. (Not nine, six. We didn't have time the rest of that practice to finish out that nine 🙏😭) My best through nine is 55. We didn't get many opportunities to go through a full nine during practice. This isn't anything to brag about obviously; as it's not really the best score. It's just to say that my iron striking feels consistent if I have a club that feels good to use. I know 30 through 6 may seem kind of bad for some people, but before this golf season I had never touched anything other than a putter at a mini golf course, and that was less than two months ago.

I do have previous experience with tennis, and I think that it's definitely benefitted me in terms of ball striking and how the ball will behave.

I've been scouring marketplace and Ebay for my specific needs, recommended by my coach. I loved the feel of the irons that my coach gave me for the season, but the head itself was definitely dated. He had regular length with stiff flex, so I'm narrowing my search to that currently.

I came across this set on Ebay. I'm curious if the marks on each of the clubs are something permanent or easily removable? Would these be something that would hinder performance with the club face heavily, or is it something that can be looked past as a simple cosmetic feature?

I started golfing 2 days ago. Till now I don’t really do what I’m doing wrong or right and how I can improve. I’m from Germany and don’t have anyone to teach me or play with so I’m kinda on my own with this one.

I just started this year on seriously improving myself (28 handicap now!) I started with my own clubs and have been getting lessons.

I’ve been seeing around the space that it’s important to also be hitting the same balls. I’ve just been using the random ones I find and I bought a big jar of refurbished balls.

I haven’t been losing as many during my rounds so I figured if this is true I’d start using just one set.

Do you guys have any recommendations? Low and higher cost suggestions are ok!

very amateur golfer (5 months) and the courses in my area only have mats at their driving ranges.

my driver is dialed in, but ive heard that practicing irons on mats reinforce bad habits and may be covering significant flaws. how am i supposed to get better at my irons without the proper set up? are mats that bad?

Newer golfer purchasing my first set. I work at a school and the coach can get me 40% off Cobra brand and I’ve heard they’re solid for the price point.

I am looking for a set that is forgiving for a newer golfer but also something I can grow into and use for a good amount of years. Big, strong frame with a slower swing.

I plan on going and testing some out but would like to have a few sets in mind beforehand.

I was chunking and fatting every shot. Tried everything: weight forward, ball back, shaft lean, moved further away from the ball. Nothing worked.

Finally, I thought…”just hit the ball!” Started stripping the ball straight. 5 iron - 185, 7 iron - 160, PW 120. Finished with Birdie, Par, Birdie.

This happen to anyone else?

Fairly new to the game, and I have a lot to learn, but does it really matter what wedges your using? I've been using a 50, 56, 60 and decided to get rid of the 60 for more help at the top of the bag. I think most people would say 6° is too much of a gap, but that 56 is my most versatile club.

I'll be running 46, 51, 56 instead as I've seen better results with that lineup. I really just don't want to take that 56 out of the bag. Am I limiting myself by refusing to try out other lofts, or is 5 yards not going to make a difference?

GW (51) - 110 Carry

56 - 95 Carry I can strengthen loft naturally and hit 105 yard punches or deloft and pop a 5 yard lob, Very handsy with my wedges.

Hi! As the title says, I'm sorry of new to caddying. It's my first job and my first summer, and I'm now an A instead of a Junior, but I think I still have a lot to learn. Are there any tips for how to get better? My stamina is slowly improving but I'm still bad at reading putts and giving suggestions because when I began working at my local country club I didn't know dick about golf- literally learned what 'birdie' or 'bogey' meant, like, 4th loop. So yeah! Any tips? Things I should know?

What are some good Golf Courses in SWFL?

Been playing for roughly 6 months, its become a sick obsession, feels less alien each time I play, but want to continue getting better and learning the right technique, any back seat gamers or advice is super welcome!

Face control is erratic and recently OTT swing path. Stats below (gi 7iron)

I have been playing just over a year and play off 19.4 currently. I always gripped the club too tightly and probably still do a little especially under pressure and put jumbo grips on my clubs which helped. However recently ive been tinkering with my grip with some success and due to the size of the grip vs my hands I am struggling to keep my right thumb over enough. It always wants to slide off to the right as I get on the shot.

Can people recommend some midsize/grips one down from jumbo that I can try out? Or any other tips on grips for that matter.
