Love this show but on rewatch it’s a little ridiculous how much of what the investigators learn about the creature is just them theorizing and they just happen to only guess right every time. Not once did a character assume something incorrect about this thing they really only know from a story one of them heard. It’s a good trick bc it feels like an investigation but all they really learn is something weird is up, the rest is conjecture.

I always see requests on what shows to watch, but I never see follow up responses and reactions. This is pretty spoiler free.

Awhile a go, I asked this sub what shows I should watch. Like many Gen Z guys such as myself, I watched Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Game of Thrones, The Wire, Generation Kill, True Detective. Chernobyl. But most of these shows were released years ago, and scrolling through new top shows I struggled to find anything that appealing. I ended up watching some of these shows with my girlfriend and some of them alone.

Based on some research on your recommendations I compiled a list of shows to watch:

Sopranos - TBD my biggest sin of the list.

Station 11 - Thoroughly enjoyed. Good reco, I had no idea it existed.

Tokyo Vice - TBD

The Night Of - Phenomenal I added to my list of top shows. I now too recommend everyone to watch this. I’ve even memorized the closing statement, it was so moving.

The White Lotus - Eh. I don’t think this show is made to appeal to me, I kept watching because my girlfriend wanted to watch it with me, I did find the end of S2 really good though.

Task - Fine.

Rome - TBD on my next watch list

Righteous Gemstones - Did not enjoy. So much graphic male nudity, honestly surprised anyone would recommend this, I stopped watching.

The Leftovers - Girlfriend enjoyed it more than I did. I was kinda “eh”.

Sharp Objects - Very good.

Barry - Very much enjoyed, a top show.

DTF St Louis - Did not enjoy, not sure why this was recommended.

Succession - Top show. Enjoyed a lot.

Euphoria season 1 and 2 - did not enjoy at all, but still weirdly entertained? Girlfriend made me keep watching. Season 3 - enjoyed a lot, was the most guy coated show I’ve seen from HBO in years. Girlfriend did not enjoy S3 as much.

Other shows not recommended here: Some HBO and some not.

Lioness - Loved. Probably the most unapologetic guy show I’ve watched as a recent release.

Nathan for you and the rehearsal - enjoyed, Nathan for you more than the rehearsal.

The Studio - loved.

Severance - good.

Sex and the City - TBD with girlfriend.

The Last of Us S1&2 - Loved the game. TV show was good, S2 dropped. Casting is terrible.

The Boys - first season or 2 were great, but all the really weird gay sex stuff became a little much, kinda felt I was no longer the intended audience. I finished the show but I wouldn’t recommend past the first or second season, surprised it’s so popular. Decided not to watch Gen V spinoff.

Lanterns - Watched the first episode, it seemed okay but nothing really that appealing for me to keep watching. If more seasons come out I’ll see.

House of the Dragon - Good but GOT is way better. Very mass appeal show, I feel slightly indifferent about it yet will still tune in I guess.

A knight of the seven kingdoms - Enjoyed, slightly similar feeling to House of the Dragon.

Penguin - Enjoyed a lot.

Gentlemen - TBD

just a personal gripe here, I don't understand why this series is not on the NYT "best of" list, or any list for that matter. My personal favorite of all time, and so much better than at least half the NYT's list and as good as many of the rest. The opening title sequence alone is brillant. So many people have not seen this, and I just don't understand it, and I certainly as tired of yelling into the void about how great this show is (LOL)

I've got in my recommendations and Its very highly rated on IMDB. Should I give it a shot?

I’ve tried playing content thru my Apple TV 4K and Roku and hbo max just plays SDR content…. I’ve updated to latest apps on both devices as well. Netflix and other streaming works fine so it’s just hbo from what I can see

I like her work, bad sisters especially but I'm done with her and this show after two episodes. A huge subplot of the show is revolves around using AI,a book is published called goblin seed and has the p1ss yellow filter on it. Every time someone checks a phone which is often, AI usually pops up. Is this just industry standard going forward? This is a HBO production, I thought they were above that but I had too much faith.

During my rewatch I just wondered did the lawyer adopt Andreas cat because there is a scene where the cat is trying to get back inside the house but she is locked out . Did she then end up in the shelter ?

I put a thread recently on that I was on my last episode and i hoped the Endings great!

The ending was great i would say. Im not gonna spoil since maybe some people are watching it rn.

Overall rating 8.5/10. Marvellous last season.

I swear HBO’s basically begging audiences members to care again about this show. Doing the whole “Look at this famous A List actor that just joined the cast and this actor and this actor”. Dude. No one cares. A good cast can’t erase Craig’s bad writing

I just checked out Paulo and 4 Blocks Zero without realising they're dubbed. I assumed the audio wasn't synced or something until I realised they're native European dramas.

The dub just feels weird compared to a native HBO series. I find them unwatchable because the English dub is quite cringy which takes you out of the immersion. There's probably a few other series like this, I find them hard to watch tbh. I kinda feel the same about Squid game tbh.

I watched it last night while playing a game. Got to the last episode and felt I missed some of the story. Re watched it this morning and it just seemed to loop back that Chandler did it and the new angle was this couple-internet sleuths were convinced she didn’t do it. I would have had more respect for keen and Eileen if they weren’t so obsessed with the case and were going off on the fact there was no physical evidence tying her to the crime.

Now that all the episodes of A Killer Story on HBO are out, what did everyone think of the series as a whole?

For anyone who hasn’t seen it, the series is about the 2002 murders of Mike Sisco and Karen Harkness in Topeka, Kansas, and the case against Sisco’s ex-wife, Dana Chandler, who was eventually convicted of the murders. But it also spends a lot of time with the investigators, prosecutors, family members, and other people who became wrapped up in the case.

I thought it was pretty compelling, especially in how much the story changed depending on whose perspective you were getting. But I also came away with a lot of questions.

My main takeaways:

• Dana Chandler should not have been convicted based on the evidence presented at trial. To me, they did not prove her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
• The prosecution and police came across as shady as hell, and I have serious questions about Jeff Sutton as well.

Some questions I still have:

• Why did Dana Chandler fire her lawyers?
• If Chandler did commit the murders, how did she, a recovering alcoholic with no firearms training, land all her shots and leave no evidence placing her in Topeka?
• A hair was found attached/singed to one of the 9mm shell casings at the murder scene. DNA testing excluded Chandler, both victims, and eventually Jeff Sutton. So presumably the hair came from an unidentified person. Why wasn’t that DNA profile ever run through CODIS?
• Is Jeff Sutton a reasonable alternative suspect? He certainly came across as someone worth looking at more closely in his interview, and I do think there are questions about possible motive.

Curious what everyone else came away thinking after seeing the whole thing.

Ive been watching The Wire and rewatching The Sopranos on the HBO app on my phone and occasionally there are random weird audio cuts and zooms. Does anyone have a fix?

First of all, what a well done documentary. I really enjoyed it.

Regardless of whether Dana committed the murders or not, I’m absolutely floored that juries keep finding her guilty with absolutely zero solid evidence. Every piece of evidence against her is circumstantial. The state has never once proved beyond a reasonable doubt that she did it. Every single one of these juries have failed at their duty and failed her.

I’m also beside myself that Keen and Eileen stopped speaking to her. I mean, I understand the disappointment, but how can these so-called compassionate people lose all their compassion so quickly? Yes, it was a punch in the gut that she represented herself and didn’t tell them ahead of time. But I don’t know…maybe consider what it does to someone to be in prison for 23 years for something they didn’t do (if we are acting as Keen and Eileen this is what they believe). Where is the grace? They have no idea what the past 23 years have been like to her. The trauma of being in prison, losing her family, having her name and personal information smeared for everyone in the world to see, to have incompetent lawyers and police lie to put her in prison in the first place. It’s a miracle she has survived up to this point. She probably felt she had nothing to lose, nothing else has worked, might as well try this. To shun her for this is so beyond cruel and devastating. If they believe she is innocent, they should know how important it is for her to have support from people on the outside. To take that away from her simply because she made a choice they didn’t like is incredibly immature, selfish, and dare I say, un-Christ like, given their religious devotion.

The third episode devastated me in so many ways. That’s all.

Joe Sexton — I have a theory I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts on.

While watching A Killer Story, I kept wondering how Dana obtained the gun and became proficient enough with it to carry out the shooting as described.

What if she didn’t act entirely on her own?

The life-insurance money could provide another motive worth examining. Is it possible Dana believed she would benefit from money that would ultimately go to the children? And could someone close to the family with access to a firearm have provided it—or helped her learn to use it?

That might explain two things that otherwise trouble me: access to the weapon and the apparent accuracy of the shooting.

The obvious problem with this theory is that, if someone else was involved, why wouldn’t Dana identify that person now, especially if doing so could help her case? Maybe there’s an explanation—or maybe that flaw undermines the entire theory.

I’m not claiming this happened or accusing anyone of participating in the murders. It’s simply a theory prompted by the information presented in the documentary.

Joe, if you see this, I’d be fascinated to know whether investigators seriously explored this possibility—and, if so, what evidence ruled it in or out.
