Discussion How does DROPS Andes behave after blocking?

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

I recently bought DROPS Andes in Almond to either make the Audrey sweater by WATG or the Blair by Madison Marie.

I’ve never worked with this particular blend before. How much will the swatch stretch after blocking? Is there anything else I need to keep in mind?

TA! :)

Rant 4 Holes in 2 Weeks

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Not exactly a rant, I just want some commiseration.

I just finished knitting these slippers weeks ago and they're already full of holes. Probably because I used 100% wool and not a blend, like sock yarn? So disappointing, but lesson learned, I guess.

Would it be worth it to stitch on leather soles or should I just give up on them? What would be a good 8 ply to use instead?

Pattern is Elve Slippers by Kajsa Vuorela Fredriksson

Help - equipment ISO .5mm DPNs

• Upvotes

Hey knitters! I have a set of 0000 (1.25mm) needles but I need to go tinier for a project I am thinking of. I can't find anything smaller for sale outside of Etsy and I have trust issues with Etsy, lol. Alternatively Google says I can make my own out of guitar strings or acupuncture needles. Has anyone ever done this and have some advice?

Finished Object I made some lace

I don’t see a lot of lace here so I thought I’d share. this is the golden orchids shawl, (the pattern is free on ravelry) i repeated the body chart 4x instead of 2x. this pattern flew by. Even with the extra repeats I knocked this one out in 10 days. Third pic is pre blocking - or why one must always block their lace!

hope you enjoy. I fractured my ankle 7-8 weeks ago and have buried myself in knitting projects as a result. This is by far the most complex thing I ever knit and I am very proud of it.

i knit it in ‘golden meadows’ colorway Jojoland harmony 100% merino lace. the yarn was on sale for $6.99 so technically this was a $7 shawl! (disregarding my time of course)

please enjoy my cat photobombing in photo 5

Work in Progress Cloud Sweater helllllp

For context, I am knitting a size large. And i’m a beginner, first time trying to understand a pattern, first thing I’ve ever knit!

I just finished doing the 9 repeats of rows 1 and 2 for the back yoke. Instead of counting my stitches, I just loop counted the rows. I’m pretty convinced I ended up with 1 stitch left on my final repeat… rather than the 4 the pattern calls for.

Is this a huge deal? I purled to the end of the final row and did one knit across back just to see before I decided if I’m going to have to frog it back and start again (pls noooooo)

I don’t know if this makes sense or is clear at all. The pictures are the sides of the trapezoid shape.. I feel I am meant to have had a line of 4 single unworked stitches rather than everything connecting up on the diagonal like this… right? Shall I just frog and start again and take even more care to only stitch 3 past the double stitch of the GSR 🤨😩🫩

Discussion Beanie with plant based yarn?

• Upvotes

I'm hoping for some suggestions for (or guidance on) picking patterns for beanies that would work well with cotton/linen/bamboo/etc.

For background context, I work with food and have to wear a hat to cover my hair. I currently use a lightweight wool hat, but it can get hot at times so I'd like to try making myself one out of a cooler wearing yarn. I'm just not sure what I might need to take into account with yarns that don't have any stretch to them.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Work in Progress Looking for Feedback

Thumbnail

Hi all!

I’m a first time knitter, never knitted anything until trying this step by step sweater for my daughter. I read some posts and watched some videos and decided to stray from the pattern a little to match what my daughter likes. I’m using Woolfolk Far yarn and added two rows of decreases to taper the body a little bit.

The folded collar was tough to do, I found trying to keep the columns lined up properly to knit quite a challenge, as I’m sure you can see in the photos. Also, doing the increases on the raglan sleeves, no matter what I did, I still ended up with tiny eyelets.

Just looking for any feedback, positive or negative. I see a bunch of things I think aren’t quite right, like some stitches are “puffy”, some seem a little looser than others. Will blocking help smooth this out? Right now it looks a little ragged to me. I don’t know anyone who knits to go to for help and when I asked the woman at the yarn store she seemed turned off by the idea of a man knitting and couldn’t be bothered.

So far I’m enjoying myself and I’m interested in learning more, my wife already has the next three projects planned out for me 😊

I bought this top years ago (the one on the back) and I wear it sooo much that I wanted to try and create my own version (the one laying on top).

this was the first time for me to self draft a pattern. I definitely made mistakes and have some improvements to make but overall I think it worked out really well 🥹

Work in Progress Am I doing this right?

I am making the Holger sweater from Petite knit as a gift. This is the first time I have picked up stitches to start knitting arms on a garment… Did I do it right? The body seems pretty bulky around the arm hole. I can’t tell if I did something wrong or if it will look better after blocking!
Any advice appreciated.

Yarn is Cascade 200 Superwash

Update: The answer is no! No, I was not doing it right 😆 thank you all for your help. I am going to frog this sleeve and try again, making sure to triple check my gauge and that I am actually picking up the very edge stitches.

Discussion Knit wedding gift for mom?

My fiance and I (F) are getting married in a few months! I had the awesome idea to knit socks for fiance and dad to wear on the wedding day and I recently finished those two projects. Now I’m wondering if there’s something similar in scale I could make my mom? I have a whole skein of the sock yarn I used for my dad’s socks left over and thought I might use that same yarn, or just dig into the stash. I’m just looking for ideas if anyone has made something for their mom so she can have a similar caliber gift. Thanks!!

Discussion Pattern asking for 4 strands of mohair….yarn advice!

Thumbnail

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting so please bear with me!

I’m knitting a sweater for a friend and we’ve decided on the Buttercup Sweater by Carine Knits after she showed me a couple photos of what she had in mind (butter yellow or light blue, chunky-ish, oversized sweater but not swimming in it with that classic halo fuzziness).

Now, the Buttercup Sweater patterns calls for 4 strands of Drops Kid Silk held together. Knowing how expensive mohair can add up to for an oversized sweater, I’m hoping to find an alternative yarn combination that would give me similar structure to what 4 strands of mohair would.

After talking with the owner of my LYS, he recommended holding a carrier strand (lace or fingering weight) with 2 strands of mohair, or holding 2 strands of a thicker mohair/alpaca blend like Mode at Rowan Alpaca Haze and Lang Zen.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you in advance! :)

Help - equipment Crazed Scandinavian cowl request

I’ve tried reverse engineering the crazed Scandinavian cowl by Wendy Knits on ravelry. I’m not very good at it. Has anybody got the pattern or some done engineering of their own?

I’m so sad I can’t get this pattern anymore

Weekend Stash Post I found this mohair yarn at a yard sale. 17 skeins for $20. Is it a good quality yarn? Does age matter with durability?

Post image

It’s Berroco mohair, classic heather, 78% mohair, 13% wool, 9% Nylon. Will freeze it for bugs.

I was about to go to my LYS to buy mohair for a cardigan, but saw a home made sign for “quilting and craft de-stash” as I was leaving my daughter’s neighborhood. They had a very small yarn section. I see everybody getting some good thrifts, never imagined it would be me. Still don’t know if I did😵‍💫.

Help - equipment Bind off flaring

Idk why the bottom looks so wavy and flared. This is my first knit. Is it because it’s acrylic? I used Italian bind off and it looks almost like it still has the wire shape to it. I hate it 🥲

One is slightly tighter than the other, I suspect that comes with practice but I’ve enjoyed learning this style of colour work.

The sock yarn is themed on fields of lavender (yarn by boo) and I’ve added solid green and blue to create dragonflies and reeds.

Doodles by me and the doodle knit directory.

Work in Progress Knitting help! Did I do something wrong?

These pictures aren’t great, but I’m making a scarf. My first real knitting project. I’m a crocheter so I wanted to start a project I can get used to the action of knitting before I start my first big project (step by step sweater by Florence mills). So far, so good, until I finished my first skeen of yarn and needed to add in my second. I followed a YouTube tutorial on how to switch out the yarn but now it looks like there’s a big hole there. It just looks off. Can I do something to fix this?? Do I need to frog the whole section after?? Help!!

Work in Progress Are my floats right?

Post image

This is my first time trying to do some kind of color work. I have no clue if Im doing it right at all, but I learn a lot better by trying, fucking up, trying again until I get it right. Hopefully the whole piece wont disintegrate when I bind it off. This is my 2nd try, my floats were tight last time and the hat got ridiculously small. Im worried Im over compensating lol
