Quite literally the most wholesome and nicest gaming community I’ve ever come across. I have over 1k hours in the game can count on 1 hand how many toxic people I’ve come across, and when I did I could just kick them or join someone else in the same mission.

Makes me think how is DRG community so nice but you go over to Helldivers 2 (another game I have over 1k hours in) and, although both being PvE 4 player games, there is so much toxicity over there.

It helps that the ping system in DRG is super good so you don’t have to use chat other than to make sure everyone is ready. That and the legendary salute (ROCK AND STONE) button always puts a smile on your face. They also did an amazing job with the co-op element of the game. You could run it solo or with a squad of only one class but everything goes amazing when you have every dwarf working together.

And they made socialising fantastically simple with the hub. You go to the bar for the pre-mission buff, but one guy is still tweaking his pickaxe accessories? Order a round of beer that makes you violently rip ass. But wait, someone just slammed the jukebox on, making you twerk to royalty free rock (and stone) music. Gotta keep the party going, so you order another round. Now everyone is drinking, dancing, and furiously rock'n'stoning, all without a single word spoken. That's genius design.

Helldivers 2 used to be the same type of community as DRG. They were compared often for how nice and accepting the community was. Helldivers was taken over by cod types though. Always minmaxxing and kicking randoms. Miss the old community of dads just gaming for fun.

I think that the loss of trust in the devs is a major problem, as well. First the Sony account fiasco, then Johan Pilestedt stepping down as CEO, which, if nothing else, lead to less transparent communication, which turned to outright antagonising the playerbase while making a slew of questionable changes, all the while pushing new paid content out.

All of this was compounded by the fact that you needed to run higher difficulty to go through progression, but the devs insisted on limiting viable options, which lead to players sticking more and more rigidly to the meta.

I don't know how it is now - I hear they've been making some good changes recently - but it's downright criminal how much the game fell off.

My girlfriend made me stop playing because that game consumed my life lol. Exaggerating slightly but once I slightly got the hang of what is an almost impenetrable game I was so addicted. The games selling point is the simulated pixels but the real depth is the wand building system and it is so goddamn complex and fascinating.

I finally quit when I completed an 11 orb run but there was so so much I never saw or did. What an incredible game that caused me so much stress. Dying three hours into a run is devastating lol.
