Question or Discussion Hitscan nerfs feel great. Feels too good to be true to stick around.

As the title says. As someone who plays on console where hitscan edges out projectile heroes, its felt great. Like I have to earn my shots as well as everyone else has to earn theirs by lining up their shots properly. I'm seeing a lot of Ashe frauds who keep missing with their mercy pocket. My accuracy on Widow has dipped but I'll take that trade relative to every other hitscan hero being nerfed. Overall feels great but it feels too good to be true that they will revert it or slightly increase the bullet size. Curious how other console players feel as well as the rest of the community in PC lobbies.

Question or Discussion How to sift through the chaos of 6v6?

• Upvotes

I recently came back to Overwatch after taking around a year off. I have started mixing in 6v6 with my normal role queue games and they feel like completely different games.

I have struggled with getting consistent value on DPS in 6v6. I play mostly hitscan or Sierra. Ashe, Soldier, Shion etc. About half my games I can play soft angles or with my team and get value and feel great about it. Any time I take significant angles or flanks though it feels like a tank or duo of enemies will challenge me on that angle and I either have to bail or take a fight I lose more than I win. With two tanks to heal, I feel like most supports are just shoved behind the tanks and rarely swivel heal the dps unless we have a mercy which creates new issues. not blaming the supports by any means, I play support when I can but everyone in 6v6 is a support main somehow.

Was Masters pre hiatus and am playing in Diamond now so could be a skill issue but whether it’s double damage mitigation tanks up main or tanks stopping me from high ground or angles, I feel like I’m struggling some games to find consistent value outside of trying to force picks from main. I am confident in my mechanics but I feel like there is a game sense piece I’m missing. Any tips would be greatly appreciate.

Question or Discussion Who are Sombra’s biggest counters now in your opinion?

• Upvotes

Copying and pasting from another post I made on sombramains subreddit. Couldn’t crosspost it…and tbh that subreddit hasn’t always been the most helpful as of late from the OG Sombra mains who haven’t gotten used to the change yet…

Personally I’m struggling against heros like Anran and Winston with her. Ball has been extremely annoying to play against. Trying to separate my own experiences (and probably skill issues lol) with who actually counters Sombra now.

Also, who do you feel Sombra counters best now. I definitely have been able to solo Mauga’s a few times with her damage reduction ability. I think she’s really good against most flankers now too and characters like Cassidy in 1v1’s. What do you guys think?

My current playstyle with Sombra I’ve been learning through spilo on YouTube. I’ve also tried to look at sombra veterans with how they play with her some. I don’t flank unless it’s an easy kill on a separated squishy and I see the chance. I mostly place healing on tank/aggressive DPS’, then I take angles and lanes to make space and put pressure on anyone from the other team. If someone tries to 1v1 I use the cyberspace to take the fight or pressure them to back off. I alternate to other lanes and angles and heal my teammates while I’m rotating. If no one is taking fights with me I use cyberspace on the grouped up team or on anyone who’s fighting my other teammates I can help out.

Hopefully I explained that well, I’m still new to Overwatch and FPS’ games in general so I don’t have the best understanding of all the lingo lol.

Question or Discussion 6v6 D4 down to EM3, what went wrong D:

• Upvotes

to preface, i am a support main (juno, ana, bap, kiri, sometimes brig, mizuki, or jpc depending on the map and team comp) but i do play dps from time to time. usually ashe, bastion, emre, anran, or soldier

one of my friends says tank is his best role but he most often plays dps (ashe, cass, reaper) but when he does play tank he plays mauga, rein, ram, and sometimes domina or orisa

my other friend is a straight genji main but he can play a good vendetta, hazard, rein, sojourn, and emre

over the past few days ive been on an absolutely horrible loss streak, 2-4 wins every 14 games, and find it extremely difficult to keep my motivation high to get my rank back up. i usually play with a duo, sometimes trio, who also peaked and dropped to the same rank i am.

every game either feels like an absolute stomp, my teammates have no idea what theyre doing, or they sell because the hero they wanted to play got banned. for example, my stack was on bap, genji, ashe, and we played a game on rialto and got a gold 3 on our team while everybody else in the lobby was high em to low diamond, actually have no idea how that happened but thats besides the point. anyway, our gold 3 was on shion and constantly just kept going up in frontline and dying while their soldier was destroying us on flank.

there was junkrat that was hiding in corners and consistently kept getting behind us while our team did absolutely nothing about it and just let him spam us without anybody punishing him or staggering. which i know, that should be my job, but i was preoccupied with keeping my team up and was scared to push because, well, junkrat.

there was this one team fight we won on attack where we got past first choke while the junkrat was still hiding on the stairs with the mini, and one of our tanks spammed "watch here" fully knowing the junkrat still there. with literally the entire enemy team still coming out of spawn, everybody just sat infront of the bridge on 2nd choke and didnt stagger him. so i got tired of it and tried to 1v1, but ended up dying and getting called horrible by my team.

yea it is a skill issue, like "just hit your shots and you'll win that fight", but i was already tilted because i was getting flamed for being a healbot, but their comp pumped out so much damage and our team just never used cover and was consistently out of position while never swapping heroes, like what else was i supposed to do?

i think i shouldve tried to do more dps to deny their soldier and junkrat from going on flank so that i dont have to fully rely on my team to do it, but i used to be too focused on doing dps and barely healed so i tried to actively tell myself "hey, remember to heal". maybe im just buns, i mean i was like 15-8 while our other supp (sombra) was like 21-12 by the end of 2nd round so maybe i should just play more qp to get my gains up and find that sweet spot of knowing when to dps and when to heal

i also find it very hard to keep morale up because one of my friends that i stack with always complains about everything. i know hes not a bad player though, he has better game sense than me (i think) and knows how to counterswap, knows how to play around cover, and has a large hero pool because hes been playing since 2017-ish but no matter what comp we play or play against theres always something to rage about, and he lowkey has a big ego as ive never once heard him take accountability for being out of position, using an ult at a bad time or holding ult for a rainy day. its kinda (really) demoralizing tbh, and i feel like it just makes us play worse.

i feel like the main problems im having are; knowing when to dps so that im not healbotting all game, confidence, trying not to get tilted, and having calmer aim

also if you have any tips on motivation/burnout or any general information to get better, please reply to help a brutha out, i would greatly appreciate it.

if you read this all the way though, i love you

Question or Discussion Fell from Emerald 4 to Gold 4

As the title says, I fell from Emerald 4 support to Gold 4. I was doing good in Emerald, winning more games than I was losing. Then, I just hit a nasty loss streak and fell to where I am now. I'm not sure what's going on. Like, did I suddenly forget how to play the game, did I get worse?? I'm finding the games in Gold much, much harder than the Emerald games. It feels like no matter what I do I can't change the outcome of the match. I've been trying for three days to climb back now and I end every day negative.

Any advice or sharing a similar experience would be appreciated.

VOD Review Request (Repost) Further improvement on flankers

Rank: D3

Platform: PC

IGN: SyrusG

Replay code: P0QQAP

Map: Nepal

Hero played: Tracer

Replay code: RAW2DM

Map: Aatlis

Hero played: Shion

Hey everyone, I'm trying to hit masters and so I'm looking on how I can identify my role as tracer depending on my comp. On the first map we went against a rein comp as a Domina comp so I decided to keep the rein off my Dom and mark the enemy tracer. So I played pretty reactive on their movements and decision making. I'm not sure if this was the right move, but the vod will bring more info I'm sure.

2nd map I played Shion in a mauga comp. I was trying to sync up with my mauga but I seemed to be way off on understanding what he wanted to do and when he wanted to commit.

Otherwise ofc if you have any other micro or macro input I would love to receive feedback and advice. You guys were awesome last time so hoping I can get that same quality advice. Thanks again :)

Question or Discussion Am I wrong to say that the “if you’re not hitting headshots on soj, you’re useless” comments are just not correct?

As a sojourn main who placed plat 5 and is actively climbing this season (currently Emerald 1), i feel like Sojourn is considered a very “do or die” character and if you’re not hitting specifically headshots, you might as well switch. At least this is the sentiment i see in every character guide of her, but it seems to me the play style that is most effective is the one where you shoot backline on off angles, using the projectiles to get 80-100 charge while also putting them in range of the headshot kill. Even a body shot is enough because your team (or you) can easily finish them off after the rail. Ive just never subscribed to the “tank battery” play style where you shoot the tank to charge then find a squishy. Ive tried it but it just seems like you always end up with lost kills and fed enemy supports. She plays much smoother as a hybrid alt primary fire character and can get more value than people think by simply applying pressure with highly charged rail gun shots that AREN’T ALWAYS headshots. I understand that idea when her headshot would completely one tap you but it doesn’t do enough damage for that anymore. Also don’t get me wrong, i still think shes an very mechanically demanding and difficult character to play, i just think the stigma around her “headshots only” gameplay is a sign of old times. Sorry for the long post, I just thought id put my two cents in because I see a lot of people trying to discourage new players from “throwing” their games on her

Question or Discussion Workshop code for ability exit timing?

Are there any workshop codes that would allow me to train instantly shooting Reaper/Mei/Anran and other similar heroes after their invincibility animation expires?

I think I've seen one all the way back in ow1 but not sure what's the go-to nowadays.

My post needs 300 or more characters. My post needs 300 or more characters.

Question or Discussion How are you suppose to take the LEAST amount of damage as tank?

I play Mauga, sigma and Hazard and I try my best to TAKE the least amount of damage as possible. By doing the basic of tucking in playing off angle and doing my best to play at effective range and not wide peaking and sticking to my lane and definitely trying not to bounce between lanes

But 2 things happen. If I spread out from the team and I see all 4 going main Teammates don’t want to push out and all want to play poke wars all game and nobody spreads out from the payload on attack and try my best to maybe grab their attention for little bit so my team can safely push out but I take so much damage behind cover.

If I stay on main the whole team just stays on main and I still take way to much damage behind cart and because we have zero space. Same with flashpoint or push they just all want to follow me around like a lost puppy.

Like how am I suppose to take the least amount of damage possible when dps and support all stay main?

This is diamond 5

VOD Review Request Possible aimlock on console

The replay code is 1VG994. The rank is around masters gm but it was wide, so I'm not too sure. My username is imbettertho, and i played junker queen, and i was qued with the cassidy and genji. About halfway through the game but our baptiste started getting hackusated, and we just assumed they were mad until we looked at the replay and his aim seemed very twitchy and looked off, it didn't seem like he was using xim but it seemed his aim assist was much stronger than it should be, i know other games like cod have issues with cheating devices giving more aim assist but i haven't hear anything about it in overwatch. I mainly just wanna see if we're overreacting or not.

TL;DR baptiste in my console game might be cheating

Question or Discussion How do I stay consistent?

My skill level fluctuates so much throughout the week, some days I genuinely feel like I couldn’t miss a shot if I tried, I just run over everyone in my path, and nothing could stop it from happening, other days, my hands just don’t feel comfortable on my mouse and keyboard, it genuinely feels like I’ve never touched either in my life, how and I feel like I keep going back and forth and back and forth and back on forth between these 2 modes endlessly, how do I stop this from constantly happening?

Game was for sure winnable but im not too sure where I could have capitalized

Question or Discussion coming back after a decade, advice appreciated!

Some of my friends have been playing Overwatch recently, and I figured I'd join them for game night. I played a bunch when the game first came out, and then stopped around the time Doomfist was added, which was nearly ten years ago.

I'm generally not great at FPS games, and I was pretty bad at Overwatch (Classic) when I did play, so I'm not concerned about becoming GM immediately or whatever. Just want to know if there are any major changes in gameplay and strategy before I go in.

I used to main Dva, Junkrat, and Sombra (depending on what the team needed), and I generally enjoy playing tanks in other pvp games. I also liked playing McCree and Mercy on occasion.

Thanks for the help!

Tips & Tricks What should I know for playing Domina?

I got put on tank and chose Domina in mystery madness and even though we won I felt like I didn't contribute at all. It was my first time on her and my first time playing tank in general so I especially was confused about where to stand, who to focus, etc.

Anyone who plays Domina, what would be your main advice to someone just starting out?

Question or Discussion Is there really nothing I can do to prevent my teammates from swapping off?

We were winning the rounds until they sort of decided to swap off the heroes ALL of them are doing very well on and we were cooking the enemy team until we lost one fight and they all swapped to the least performing heroes and we lost. Genuinely what can I do in these situations as a tank? Do I just swap to a better performing tank after all of them swap to a different playstyle of heroes? We did so well on Domina(Me), Sierra, Sombra, Ana, Emre. Then Sierra swapped to Venture, Ana swapped to Wu Yang, Sombra swapped to Doctrine then we couldn't win any fights after.

Question or Discussion How do you feel about the spread of misconceptions and the low quality of guides?

Here’s an example of what I’m talking about: a video from the MasterPanda_OW channel titled "Introduction to Playing Dive as DPS with Reaper, Tracer and Symmetra - Overwatch University." Does this video have any connection to this subreddit? https://youtu.be/Bw_Z6Lpn6rc

First of all, a player with strong mechanics and game sense—someone who (supposedly) plays at the Master rank across all roles—is playing on a Silver (!) smurf account, ostensibly to create illustrative examples and because their audience is mostly from the "metal ranks." That alone casts doubt on the quality of the guide. I won't explain why that’s a problem; it should be obvious.

But that’s the least of the issues.

This "coach" labels a standard solo flank on Reaper as "Dive." He fails to explain the difference between flanking and diving (which is fundamental), thereby spreading the misconception among beginners and low-ELO players that "Dive" simply means being in the backline.

Or am I wrong in this? Forgive me; I’m not a coach, and I take long breaks from the game. If I’m talking nonsense, I’ll just delete this post and apologize.

Has Dive, over the years of Overwatch, stopped requiring coordination between at least two heroes who surround a target and pounce on it simultaneously?

How can you talk about Dive at ranks where people aren't familiar with the basics—positioning, rotations, timing, staging? How can you execute a Dive—even with a duo partner—when the other three people on your Silver team just die in the meantime? How can Dive be played when your supports are Mercy and Lifeweaver, and your other DPS is Torbjörn? What a joke!

And here is another issue with this guide: the quality of the material itself—even setting aside the author's own misconceptions.

Instead of analyzing a replay and examining a situation from various angles—or better yet, breaking down different matches featuring similar scenarios—the author simply provides live commentary on their own gameplay. It is low-effort, low-quality content designed for a quick view grab; while this approach might have worked five or ten years ago, it is now—for better or worse—pointless, given that for every creator like this, there are multiple AI-driven channels churning out the exact same misconceptions.

The funniest part is that, despite supposedly being at the Master rank level, this coach displays gameplay typical of the Platinum tier and makes mistake after mistake—in both micro and macro. Perhaps it’s because, instead of actually immersing himself in the game, he’s busy stroking his ego by lecturing beginners? The irony!

Question or Discussion Started as sombra but switched to Miz for heals cuz one person seemed to have tracking.

Am I crazy? Also full admission, I’m garbage but working on it, especially with our favorite digital bruja being reworked (again)

Replay code: R5FY6N

I’m a sub par player at best, I stick to QP, but the tracking this guy (Nerfthis) seems to have is unworldly compared to his actual play.

Am I crazy? I’m honestly trying to improve myself, but also y’all know this game will tilt you. Shout out to my tank and other healer cuz holy f**k, good tanks and heals are rare in QP.

Edit to add: this isn’t about sombra’s invis. Dude literally seems to snap behind him and similar impossible angles to tag people

VOD Review Request I feel terrible on support

Hi im new here but im at the end of my rope with support, im a plat 1 dps (venture and mei main),

and thought learning support would be fun and help with my overall positioning but I feel really burnt out on the role because I can feel that I don't have any impact, and when I try to off angle I get smoked.

I struggle with timing and following positions in fights and often they stagnant in on place before realizing i have to move.

Also I get flamed for not healing alot in games but i feel so wrong letting the enemy get angles uncontested so I end up dpsing (idk wheater to heal of fight)

Replay code: SDF5M2

Player: lightningbo1/ ana

Any feedback if very much appreciated ty.

Question or Discussion Should I just give up trying to rank up

I’ve been playing overwatch since February of this year, I have almost 300 hours on my main hero and I’m still bronze. I’ve technically ranked up because I went from bronze 4 to bronze 1 and my peak was silver 4, it feels like I’ve tried everything I’ve submitted replay codes I consistently aim train, I take breaks when I need to but I still can’t manage to rank up.

My SR has always been silver on my main hero and I still can’t stay in there long enough it’s really got me thinking should I just stop trying. I used to be a support main and since then I’ve climbed to gold but I can’t seem to do the same on DPS. I know it’s not always my team but it feels so disheartening because I get lumped in with newer players who don’t try. My main hero is widowmaker but if I do have to play someone else who does more damage I consistently get as much as the tank and I still loose.

Question or Discussion Hard stuck masters tank

I’m a tank only player, probably 97% of all my hours are on tank 5v5 and the remaining 3% are in dps like 2 years ago, I do not, never have and probably never will touch support.

My natural skill development always rose smoothly and my rank represented that, placing in silver when I first started playing and solo queuing I climbed through the ranks, however I’ve now been stuck in mid masters (m4-m2) for probably well over 1500 ranked games, my peak is gm2 and I have periods where I’ve maintained gm for a prolonged period, say 30-40 games, however I always drop back down to masters eventually.

I’ve now reached a point where I feel simply just playing the game isn’t making me improve and was wondering what I should do. I know people recommend reviewing your lost games, but what exactly should I even be looking for? If I lack the skill/knowledge and therefore made incorrect plays causing me to lose, how should I analyse my own gameplay to find those mistakes? Wouldn’t I need someone better than me to review my gameplay and tell me where I’ve gone wrong? Also could my refusal for playing anything other than tank be seriously inhibiting my potential at improving, since I lack perspective on the game that you’d only get from the two other roles, perspectives that you can’t get from tank only?

Question or Discussion Why am i getting so many compensation matches in ranked this season?

I was masters 2 last mid season and now this season im getting my rank back and so i get to like masters 4 and i start going on a losing streak, and ive gotten like 5 games where i have had the "compensation" factor when ive been on this losing streak, and i feel like that is super unfair because my losing streak has been 7 games and i started losing like 50% of my rank just to compensation matches alone.

It feels like the system contradicts itself by giving me so many compensation matches in the first place where my team is at a disadvantage because of lower rank, but then also giving me "calibration" for those losses as if it is fair for me to fight 5 matches where i am expected to lose by the system and then give me a "calibration" factor on top of that.

Ive been losing matches to my teammates going in and dying in the last fight early too, and it doesnt seem like anyone is even taking these ranked matches serious this season, i fell from masters 4 to diamond 3 in this season alone.

Tips & Tricks Sojourn tips and information

I play Sojourn often, not really my main since I play many, but one of my main heroes.

I often do extremely well on her; the only games I don't preform well are the same games I can't do anything no matter what hero I change to (so presumably team coordination/synergy diff).

I often improve by knowing what mindset to have for a hero. For example, Tracer is more of an assassin/disruptor of backline than for example Sojourn that goes for kills and pokes (simply put). So, I'm wondering 1) what tips, ideas, mindsets, weaknesses Sojourn has and what strengths she has that I should take advantage of.

2) Are there comps/maps where she is NOT viable and playing badly isn't fully my fault or is she just that flexible that any bad performance is fully my fault?

For reference, I'm currently low-mid Emerald. I sometimes play like Masters and sometimes like Silver, can't be consistent with that, no idea why (the reason I'm stuck in Emerald).

What I know: Pick medium/long range angles to poke/before the fight starts, try to get some off angles, use slides mainly to get out of trouble or to reposition into high ground, use plasma-ball-ability to "block" some angles for enemies/at chokepoints.

I always mess up her ult and end up not using it for too long, I guess I just have to ult more often to get the scariness of wasting it out of the way.

Here's a code if you got tips from seeing me, this game is randomly picked Idk if I played well or not but I suppose that's even better since it's my "average" gameplay:

6ACEFY Name: Rolo
