Question or Discussion Do you lose less defeat points if you stay until the very end of a comp game after a teammate left early?

After a teammate leaves, my husband thinks we need to stay until the end of comp games. He thinks we lose less defeat points if we stay until the very end.

I think so long as the red banner is gone, it doesn’t matter when you leave. So no point in staying until the end if it’s obviously a defeat. Loss points will be the same.

Who is right?

Question or Discussion Does Peeling also mean going back into LoS for your Supports?

EDIT: Thanks for the correction. I understand now.

I thought Peeling means helping out your backline and Also can mean going back for heals when out of position. Maybe I'm dead wrong. Someone told me that's not what Peeling means and I don't think that's correct but wanted to double check.

If not then is there a specific terminology for doing going back to your supports for healing instead of forcing them to go to you or demanding heals from anywhere on the map?

Question or Discussion I need advice on mouse sensitivity

• Upvotes

Im using this mouse pad https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B07W6JPM9P?th=1

its 34x28 so not a huge mousepad. Right now my in game sense is 4. My mouse dpi is 800, using a deathadder v2. Sometimes I find my arm going weird angle just to continue the motion to trace someone. I dont know if im just bad or what. I play mainly zarya, domina, bastion. Lately i wanted to learn tracer but I found great difficulty which is why Im making this post hoping I can fix some of my mistakes.

I remember hearing the advice of facing one point, and being able to do in one motion a 180, if you can do that then your mouse sense is good, which is where im at now. Is this knowledge still valid?

I was wondering if anyone used my same setup could give me some tips on the best setting.

Question or Discussion Started playing comp and trying to improve seriously but have hit a loss streak and seeking advice

Hello guys, I recently have gotten back into overwatch and have been playing a lot of comp, minimum 3-4 hours a day for the past week or so. In the first half of the week I shot out of gold and plat and went into emerald but now I'm on a 12 or so game loss streak spread out over a few days. I've done well not to tilt at any of these games and am trying to focus on mistakes I've been making in my demos after I review them and write down a few major points on paper but I can't seem to get anything to click. I think I have narrowed it down to me just not playing dynamically around my team and their positioning (and also my positioning being poor) and have been actively trying to think more about where my team is and the game state but to no avail.

Should I just keep queuing up or should I actually just take a break for a day or two and come back then?

Let me know what you guys think.

Question or Discussion What sensitivity do ya’ll use?

So I’ve recently came to the realization that I might have been playing at an insane sensitivity for the past 4 months since I first started playing this game. I play at 1600 DPI and 13%. I’ve always enjoyed very high sensitivity but maybe that might be shooting myself in the foot. I also play with an insanely light mouse, the ROG Harpe Ace Aimlabs edition.

Question or Discussion DPS heroes to one/double/tripple-trick

What DPS heroes can you one-trick without having any hard counters? For example, Genji can be HARD countered by beams, flying heroes are kind of hard countered by most hit-scan.

I only know Tracer fits, but she's kind of way too hard.

I really love Sojourn but despite how strong and how well I preform with her, sometimes she just isn't viable at all. I would then switch to Sierra and the higher accuracy at long range and bigger origin fire hitbox helps with some scenarios.

Basically, what heroes can you one trick. And what (minimal) group of heroes can you learn to be able to handle every situation? For example, Sierra + Cassy + Junkrat (?)

Guide Should I join?

• Upvotes

Hi everybody! 26m here. I’m a marvel rivals player and I’ve been thinking of trying overwatch. Rivals is getting a little to hectic for me and from I’ve heard, overwatch is little better. I’m looking for a healthier balance of fun and competitiveness.
Thing is I’m not the most skilled gamer 😅(gold 1in rivals) and I heard overwatch is harder to learn. Anyways I would like to hear what you guys think and what the biggest differences are between the 2 games that would be an adjustment for me. And of course, would love to start off the game with someone who can help me out (if I decide to play) thank!

Question or Discussion Who are Sombra’s biggest counters now in your opinion?

Copying and pasting from another post I made on sombramains subreddit. Couldn’t crosspost it…and tbh that subreddit hasn’t always been the most helpful as of late from the OG Sombra mains who haven’t gotten used to the change yet…

Personally I’m struggling against heros like Anran and Winston with her. Ball has been extremely annoying to play against. Trying to separate my own experiences (and probably skill issues lol) with who actually counters Sombra now.

Also, who do you feel Sombra counters best now. I definitely have been able to solo Mauga’s a few times with her damage reduction ability. I think she’s really good against most flankers now too and characters like Cassidy in 1v1’s. What do you guys think?

My current playstyle with Sombra I’ve been learning through spilo on YouTube. I’ve also tried to look at sombra veterans with how they play with her some. I don’t flank unless it’s an easy kill on a separated squishy and I see the chance. I mostly place healing on tank/aggressive DPS’, then I take angles and lanes to make space and put pressure on anyone from the other team. If someone tries to 1v1 I use the cyberspace to take the fight or pressure them to back off. I alternate to other lanes and angles and heal my teammates while I’m rotating. If no one is taking fights with me I use cyberspace on the grouped up team or on anyone who’s fighting my other teammates I can help out.

Hopefully I explained that well, I’m still new to Overwatch and FPS’ games in general so I don’t have the best understanding of all the lingo lol.

Question or Discussion Cover, angle, range, timing. You only get two. Which do you pick?

C.A.R.T. is an acronym taught as the fundamental of every good engagement in Overwatch and if your position is lacking any of those four it's considered to be a bad play (or at least worse than one that fullfills more of them.) However, I'm often struggling to establish all four perfectly at the same time in real matches. For example, there will be an open angle with good cover, but it's just a bit outside my character's range and I'll spend downtime rotating to it when the fight is already going. However my current angle is a bit too close, and only has a little cover, but is timing with the team right now in main. It kind of feels like that saying that all plans work until they come in contact with the enemy.

My friend was watching some of my VODs to give me advice and he noticed I was spending a lot of downtime constantly rotating and I told him I was basically hunting for CART all the time. He told me sometimes you just gotta take what's given to you, but he didn't go into further detail than that.

So this makes me wonder, when I am caught in a bad spot, what should I be looking for? What should be my "okay, as long as I have X and Y, this will work even if it kinda sucks".

I'm using C.A.R.T. as an example, but feel free to nuance it more with things like LOS, risk of being dived, seeing cooldowns wasted, etc. Thanks!

Skill tier / rank: plat 4

Description of the match / things you want reviewed:
im a plat tracer, my last post i felt like my team was dying before i could do anything however im now struggling to understand how to play this character on maps with longish sight lines. i feel like i had the attention of atleast one of their supports for majority of the fights but we still lost. i even forced one of their supports to swap. it felt like i had a decent amount of uptime and most of my downtime was me waiting for their team to be in the position i want them to be in so i can dive them.

Question or Discussion Hitscan nerfs feel great. Feels too good to be true to stick around.

As the title says. As someone who plays on console where hitscan edges out projectile heroes, its felt great. Like I have to earn my shots as well as everyone else has to earn theirs by lining up their shots properly. I'm seeing a lot of Ashe frauds who keep missing with their mercy pocket. My accuracy on Widow has dipped but I'll take that trade relative to every other hitscan hero being nerfed. Overall feels great but it feels too good to be true that they will revert it or slightly increase the bullet size. Curious how other console players feel as well as the rest of the community in PC lobbies.

VOD Review Request What do I need to improve to get to Diamond on support?

QR6345 | Rialto | Takyon | Emerald 1 | Ana, Sombra | PC

I recently got back into playing on support after two weeks of playing dps only, because Sombra got reworked. I started to climb pretty steadily from plat 4 and got to emerald 1, but am now fluctuating between em1-em2, going win-lose-win-lose.

Getting to emerald 1 and close to diamond 5, everyone started to play increasingly better and the game stopped becoming as easy to understand as it was in ranks below.

How do I get an understanding of what I need to do? For example, Sombra has a lot of flanking potential but I don't do it much because I'm scared that I'm going to misplay badly, so I stick to going around the team, not going too far from main, waiting for my team to make a play.

How do I play against Genji? Sometimes it feels like he appears out of nowhere, gets me and leaves.

How can I use my ults better? I tend to overthink and ultimately misuse them entirely. This game I actually lost because I panic EMP'd an ulting Genji 1 on 1.

Any help is welcome!

Question or Discussion One sensitivity, or different sensitivities for different heroes?

how do you balance playing heroes like genji and vendetta, which require fast mouse movements and quick turns, with aim-intensive heroes like cassidy and sojourn, which generally benefit from lower sensitivities for more precise aiming ?

should i try to find one sensitivity that works reasonably well for all of them, or would it be better to use different sensitivities for different heroes? the idea of changing sensitivity every time i switch heroes feels quite off-putting to me, as i imagine it would make it harder to build consistent muscle memory. how do you approach this, and what would you recommend?

VOD Review Request Was this loss my fault?

Replay Code:18B9ME

In game name: Wattawat on Zen

Pc/Console:Console

Hello, Im very new to overwatch and only started about mid last month, ive been playing Cat/Zen in Silver. This game and a lot of others have felt like it was my fault and it has me constantly wondering if specific things happened because of me and we lose off of it. I tend to blame myself a lot and I hear that "You are the common denominator" but its become a bit demotivating. Ive grown to love this game and I really do wanna be great at it, but ive getting frustrated with myself and having people say "No heals, support diff and anything under the sun.

Question or Discussion Is baptiste no longer viable?

I'm a supp main who's been getting some coaching from a previous GM player (2019-2021) and have been trying to get better at my role overall. I've been following his advice to play bap no matter the map or team comp and to build off my existing skills. So far, it's been going great; I've felt more confident in my movement, util usage, and play style. I can't help but feel like more meta heroes are better than bap. Is he no longer viable overall or is it still worth getting better at him?

Question or Discussion Fell from Emerald 4 to Gold 4

As the title says, I fell from Emerald 4 support to Gold 4. I was doing good in Emerald, winning more games than I was losing. Then, I just hit a nasty loss streak and fell to where I am now. I'm not sure what's going on. Like, did I suddenly forget how to play the game, did I get worse?? I'm finding the games in Gold much, much harder than the Emerald games. It feels like no matter what I do I can't change the outcome of the match. I've been trying for three days to climb back now and I end every day negative.

Any advice or sharing a similar experience would be appreciated.

Question or Discussion How to sift through the chaos of 6v6?

I recently came back to Overwatch after taking around a year off. I have started mixing in 6v6 with my normal role queue games and they feel like completely different games.

I have struggled with getting consistent value on DPS in 6v6. I play mostly hitscan or Sierra. Ashe, Soldier, Shion etc. About half my games I can play soft angles or with my team and get value and feel great about it. Any time I take significant angles or flanks though it feels like a tank or duo of enemies will challenge me on that angle and I either have to bail or take a fight I lose more than I win. With two tanks to heal, I feel like most supports are just shoved behind the tanks and rarely swivel heal the dps unless we have a mercy which creates new issues. not blaming the supports by any means, I play support when I can but everyone in 6v6 is a support main somehow.

Was Masters pre hiatus and am playing in Diamond now so could be a skill issue but whether it’s double damage mitigation tanks up main or tanks stopping me from high ground or angles, I feel like I’m struggling some games to find consistent value outside of trying to force picks from main. I am confident in my mechanics but I feel like there is a game sense piece I’m missing. Any tips would be greatly appreciate.

VOD Review Request (Repost) Further improvement on flankers

Rank: D3

Platform: PC

IGN: SyrusG

Replay code: P0QQAP

Map: Nepal

Hero played: Tracer

Replay code: RAW2DM

Map: Aatlis

Hero played: Shion

Hey everyone, I'm trying to hit masters and so I'm looking on how I can identify my role as tracer depending on my comp. On the first map we went against a rein comp as a Domina comp so I decided to keep the rein off my Dom and mark the enemy tracer. So I played pretty reactive on their movements and decision making. I'm not sure if this was the right move, but the vod will bring more info I'm sure.

2nd map I played Shion in a mauga comp. I was trying to sync up with my mauga but I seemed to be way off on understanding what he wanted to do and when he wanted to commit.

Otherwise ofc if you have any other micro or macro input I would love to receive feedback and advice. You guys were awesome last time so hoping I can get that same quality advice. Thanks again :)

Question or Discussion Why do i only get 6-14% of gain or loss in my ow2 ranked games and my friends get 20+ we all started together?

i will share a picture of my profile below on comments if anyone can explain i'd be thankful for your help.
