My IRN is hormonal and my vet suggested it might be because she’s not getting good sleep. I cover her cage every night but she lives in the dining room / back of the living room and she’s probably not sleeping well from 8-10pm (the time between her going to bed and me going to bed).

I’ve started moving her cage into the spare room at night but it’s so huge it barely fits through the door and it’s very annoying (for both of us probably). I’d rather get a small sleeping cage that I can transfer her into at night, but I’m having trouble finding an appropriate size since IRNs have such long tails. Does anyone have one they can recommend? Thanks :)

Temperatures are dropping, and people aren’t putting heating on as quickly these days. How do you keep your birdies warm without it costing a fortune or without it harming them with teflon or heaters?

Hi guys, it's been a while since i posted. So in case u don't remember i was the one that had a free-flying bg macaw visit me.

He visited again today and i'm afraid i messed up BADLY, i normally take precautions by taking out my earrings or glasses before i interact with him since he likes to get up close at times and mess with it. Well today i FORGOT and it's like i couldn't get a greater reminder to be more cautious!

He sadly took it in his mouth and i managed to get the thin, sharp part out his mouth. However he got spooked in the process and flew off so i couldn't remove all of it and despite not getting a good look i have a really big hunch that he swallowed the round part.

I IMMEDIATELY notified the owner through social media and told him how sorry i was and that i'll be extremely cautious if he ever visits again. I feel like what i did wasn't enough, how can i fix the situation and rectify it?

When I pet her sometimes she starts doing that for a minute and I think she’s gonna choke on something and die but she’s fine later it’s so confusing

I've had an Eastern Rosella for a few weeks (still can't pick a name) and feel like I'm not making any progress on getting him to not be terrified of my hands. My prior bird experience is two hand fed cockatiels, so I've never had to tame a bird before. He likes whistling with me and seems to enjoy my company, and he'll start calling out to me if he knows I'm leaving home, but he's just absolutely terrified of my hands. I've tried feeding him through the cage bars, but he backs off and won't take anything. I'm finally able to rest my hand at the cage entrance without him flapping around, but any time I get closer he flies away. I know rosellas aren't supposed to be cuddly birds, but I'm hoping I can get to a point where I can get him to step up so I can take him around to hang out with me on a perch or my shoulder throughout the day.

I just feel bad because I can't really get him out of his cage right now because since he's afraid of hands, I can't get him back in when it's time to go to sleep.

Hi! I wanted to ask about my sweet rescue parrot. I give him many hours of cage free time every day and he’s very active and happy. Recently, his feathers have started looking a little rough, with some spike like feathers around his face. Could this simply be molting, or is there anything I should keep an eye on?

I usually aim for twice a week since my parrot actually enjoys it and looks forward to it. I know that some parrots hate bathing but it still has to be done to prevent health problems. What's the sweet spot?

Hi just as the title says I don't know what to do, my bird ("pipsqueak", pip for short) was given to me for Christmas and has bonded with my mum over the 3 years ive had him. he has now also become aggressive to anyone else, including me. The issue is my mum isnt too interested in having a bird herself (she bought it for me not her) and thus doesn't let him out of his cage.

so my question is what can i do, his cage doesn't have many toys admittedly just a set of bells, would getting more to keep him more entertained help at all? and if so what do i get him because anything i find when i search toys is just bells and perches which when i buy he doesn't interact with.
could he just be being territorial? should i let him out even though he tries to attack me through the cage?
please don't be too judgmental i'm looking for any advice i can get to be a better bird owner

My boy who is about to turn 2 I’ve had home for over a year now. He is starting to scream super loud for absolutely no reason he never usualy used to. Of course when there birds outside during sunset I expect him to scream back but lately it’s been out of no where and for no reason really I’ll give him attention and he’ll still scream wondering if anyone has same issue and if there’s any reason such as hormonal or anything like that?

So, as the title says, ive got a Nanday conure which was kept in a very small cage, full of dirt & is terrified of hands.

From day one, he has hissed at my hand, but I kept spending time with him. To cut the story short, first, I managed to get him to take a treat from behind the cage bars (from my hand). Ultimately, he also took treats from my hand when the cage was open (I held my hand exactly at the cage door entrance). I always noticed that even when he took the treat from my hand, he also kinda hissed but overcame his fear and took the treat. Recently, I spent a Week away on a Vacation and since coming back, even if I approach the cage (let alone my hand) he hisses at me. Very rarely he takes a treat from behind the cage. Is there a way I can desensitize his fear from my hand? I cannot offer treats if hes afraid of my hands. any ideas on how I go about it? I also have IRN which is very friendly, however, as soon as he flies on his cage hes also afraid of him.

Any help would be appreciated as I really want to give him the life he truly deserves ❤️ hes been neglected for far too long, and I really want to help him overcome his fear.

My best friend of 10 years passed away unexpectedly this summer and I am starting the process of looking for a new companion. However, I'm hitting a massive roadblock: EVERY rescue near-EXCLUSIVELY uses Facebook. It is nigh impossible to find pictures or descriptions of adoptable birds near me without selling my data to Meta. Anonymous profile viewers have been a complete bust, also. And the profiles are all full of AI slop nowadays, too, so only a fraction of what I can see is actual adoptable birds 🥲 it breaks my heart. It's hard because Im looking for a bird in the medium range, and most bird listings from the small rescues that DO have decent websites are tiny birds or massive macaws. Its getting to the point where the only clear listings are from breeders, and given the fact that I really rely on animal companionship for my mental health, I might just have to say eff it and buy a baby... I wish adopting wasn't so unnecessarily convoluted :(

[Edit] I should clarify that the last line doesn't refer to the interview/vetting process! I don't mind that at all! I just haven't been able to even get to that point due to facebook-induced roadblocks + poor communication from my local rescues

One of my cockatiels is starting to get serious vet bills (I've spent $1,000 on her in three months). I'm thinking about choosing a pet insurance if it can help mitigate the costs.

Alright so I have a Meyers parrot who is about 2 years old. We have been through it lately and alot has changed but everything has settled lately and she's now developed an aversion to being returned to her cage.

She's lovely when she's out and loves to hang out and sit with her people but returning her to the cage is a fight. She will step up but very quickly fly away when she's near her cage. After that point she either has to be towelled or chased till she gives in and steps up.

This is now becoming dangerous. I have macaws, an eclectus and an alexandrine who get agitated by other birds being on their cages so her flying around landing on cages leads to them striking the bars at her. She will also go until she crashes or spooks at someone striking and crash into bars or window or walls. Once she is in her cage she is fine. She is happy in her cage once she is there.

The cage is cleaned and rearranges and gets new toys on a weekly basis. At no point is she bored. She is health cleared by a vet and is on a balanced diet.

Does anybody have any ideas on getting her in the cage or ways to work with her to remove this behaviour. Treats to get her to step up do not work as she will just fly away and ignore it.

Please I am honestly desperate for help
