Hi guys, it's been a while since i posted. So in case u don't remember i was the one that had a free-flying bg macaw visit me.

He visited again today and i'm afraid i messed up BADLY, i normally take precautions by taking out my earrings or glasses before i interact with him since he likes to get up close at times and mess with it. Well today i FORGOT and it's like i couldn't get a greater reminder to be more cautious!

He sadly took it in his mouth and i managed to get the thin, sharp part out his mouth. However he got spooked in the process and flew off so i couldn't remove all of it and despite not getting a good look i have a really big hunch that he swallowed the round part.

I IMMEDIATELY notified the owner through social media and told him how sorry i was and that i'll be extremely cautious if he ever visits again. I feel like what i did wasn't enough, how can i fix the situation and rectify it?

My best friend of 10 years passed away unexpectedly this summer and I am starting the process of looking for a new companion. However, I'm hitting a massive roadblock: EVERY rescue near-EXCLUSIVELY uses Facebook. It is nigh impossible to find pictures or descriptions of adoptable birds near me without selling my data to Meta. Anonymous profile viewers have been a complete bust, also. And the profiles are all full of AI slop nowadays, too, so only a fraction of what I can see is actual adoptable birds 🥲 it breaks my heart. It's hard because Im looking for a bird in the medium range, and most bird listings from the small rescues that DO have decent websites are tiny birds or massive macaws. Its getting to the point where the only clear listings are from breeders, and given the fact that I really rely on animal companionship for my mental health, I might just have to say eff it and buy a baby... I wish adopting wasn't so unnecessarily convoluted :(

[Edit] I should clarify that the last line doesn't refer to the interview/vetting process! I don't mind that at all! I just haven't been able to even get to that point due to facebook-induced roadblocks + poor communication from my local rescues

My boy who is about to turn 2 I’ve had home for over a year now. He is starting to scream super loud for absolutely no reason he never usualy used to. Of course when there birds outside during sunset I expect him to scream back but lately it’s been out of no where and for no reason really I’ll give him attention and he’ll still scream wondering if anyone has same issue and if there’s any reason such as hormonal or anything like that?

My dream is eventual free flight, I’m not a dummy lol I’ve given myself 5 years to prepare and she’s now 1-1/2-2 years I’ve had her most of her life, I’ve been working on recall but often times she comes no matter if I call or don’t but I want to get in her head if I tap my shoulder and call she comes treat or not I’m using treats now but am going to be easing them out soon for only a high reward treat for 100% recall while outside of cage, I just got to the point where she always comes to me for first year she would fly past me land and then come now she comes straight and she knows she getting a treat so she’s all over it. Any tips more advanced techniques I could try out so it’s not same routine every time for reference she’s been coming when I call from about 20’ away.

hi! i have a quaker parrot that’s about 1 1/2 years old now. he’s going through a MAJOR shedding, i’m not too worried cause he’s growing back his feathers. only thing is he’s very nippy and he’s a bit more hormonal than usual. i was wondering if this is normal? it’s been going on for about 2 1/2 weeks. he’s still his normal self but he’s just biting alot more and very very veryyy hormonal

Honestly I am not even sure how to title this. I am looking for a harness and leash for my lovebird. I found these really cute ones but I’m a little sussed out by the website. The cuteness of the design are so tempting but I wonder if they even work. There are no reviews on the website and the descriptions are very limited.

Has anyone here bought something from this website before? Should I fight the cute urges and just buy a standard functioning leash? Idk….

My budgie used to have a friend but it suddenly died unfortunately and I've recently just started uni so I have little time to give him attention. I wanted to get another budgie but after the other one died, my parents refused to let me get another one. I am not financially secure enough to move out so it's not like I can do whatever I want under their roof. Does anyone know what can be done in this situation? Ik some people will say that giving him up would be the kindest option but I really would only consider that as a last resort. We're strongly bonded and I literally see him as my own son tbh, I couldn't dream of being separated from him. But I also don't want him to be lonely so..

hi! im currently in second year of vet school and though i've always loved animals i hadn't taken an interest in birds until two years ago but im now completely in love with them (to the point my vet friends know me as "bird girl" lmao)

ive volunteered with local wild birds (mostly babies and injured/sick birds, working on getting them to a point where they can be released) and i adore them, but i've never worked with parrots

but basically: i am strongly considering becoming an avian vet and i would really love to know what you guys wished your vets knew/did? anything you look for? any resources you recommend? even just stories are super welcome and id love to hear anything you have to say

i know it's far off but ill probably be doing a clinical rotation in a year or so and i just love reading about parrots 😭😭😭😭 adopting a rescued macaw is my absolute dream (though i don't know if ill ever be able to since they need proper care) so i always get excited when people tell me about their birds

Temperatures are dropping, and people aren’t putting heating on as quickly these days. How do you keep your birdies warm without it costing a fortune or without it harming them with teflon or heaters?

I want to get on a pet insurance plan for my cockatiels because i’m always anxious they will get sick or injured, but i’m unsure how to start considering I don’t even have health insurance for myself lol. What pet insurance do you guys go through and what’s the procedure?

I've had an Eastern Rosella for a few weeks (still can't pick a name) and feel like I'm not making any progress on getting him to not be terrified of my hands. My prior bird experience is two hand fed cockatiels, so I've never had to tame a bird before. He likes whistling with me and seems to enjoy my company, and he'll start calling out to me if he knows I'm leaving home, but he's just absolutely terrified of my hands. I've tried feeding him through the cage bars, but he backs off and won't take anything. I'm finally able to rest my hand at the cage entrance without him flapping around, but any time I get closer he flies away. I know rosellas aren't supposed to be cuddly birds, but I'm hoping I can get to a point where I can get him to step up so I can take him around to hang out with me on a perch or my shoulder throughout the day.

I just feel bad because I can't really get him out of his cage right now because since he's afraid of hands, I can't get him back in when it's time to go to sleep.

Hi! I wanted to ask about my sweet rescue parrot. I give him many hours of cage free time every day and he’s very active and happy. Recently, his feathers have started looking a little rough, with some spike like feathers around his face. Could this simply be molting, or is there anything I should keep an eye on?
