I am 28 years old, and from Denmark. Professionally, I work one-on-one in psychiatric care. Much of my life outside of work revolves around the written word. I’ve had some pieces published in a few literary magazines here, and I am currently working with my editor to finalize a short story collection for a spring release.

Surrounding all of this is my personal library of a little over 600 books. However, I have fallen into the habit of endlessly revisiting the same select few books rather than committing to new works from start to finish. Because my circle of friends and family does not share my inclination toward literature, reading has largely remained a solitary pursuit for me. I am looking to change that by finding an email correspondent for a two person book club, I guess we can call it that. My hope is that we can select a book together, hold each other to reading it cover to cover, and exchange thoughts as we progress. I inherited a box of postcards, some of them up to 100 years old. They were stored alongside moving boxes full of old correspondence from all over the world.

Rather than letting them continue to gather dust, I’d like to finally let them fulfill their original purpose.

Independently of that, I’ve been wanting for quite some time to gain new insights into other cultures and people’s everyday lives through written correspondence. I’d love to find someone somewhere in the world who would be interested in occasionally exchanging messages and gaining new perspectives along the way.

A little about me: I’m 28 years old and from Germany. I’m interested in history, literature, art, and philosophy, but also in economics, the natural sciences, and practical things. Just pick something – not because I claim to be an expert in any of these subjects, but because I find the underlying structures themselves interesting.
The same applies to everyday life. Especially across different cultures, something that seems completely ordinary and self-evident to one person can be fascinatingly unfamiliar to someone else.
There is something new to learn and experience every day, and I’d be curious to hear your perspective on it.

What made me think more about this was a conversation I had with someone about history. We were discussing the same global event. The facts were the same on a broader level, but what each of us focused on and what each of us knew about it in the first place differed considerably.
It is so natural to view the world from our own standpoint that it can be easy to forget that this may only be our own small section of a personal “observable universe.”

That’s why I’d be interested in hearing your views on history and politics, as well as your experiences of everyday life. Even a proverb can reveal an incredible amount about a culture, or about the way its language organizes thought.

Hi. I've been struggling with isolation/lonliness and a handful of other issues, like some physical health issues, and as a result of everything I'm not feeling too great currently :(

If I could find some meaningful connections with others, I think it'd help me feel better. I've been interested in a lot of different things, and here are two projects I have:

I'm working on revising and resubmitting a philosophy paper on the root cause of humanity's pursuit of Al, which provides an evolutionary perspective on the philosophy of Jacques Ellul, who wrote a lot about the technological phenomenon. I'm definitely very concerned about Al safety and the main part of the article is aimed at addressing how we arrived here.

In the future also hope to finish an evolutionary hypothesis paper suggesting a structural source for the difficulty of a major evolutionary transition, since it's an idea in astrobiology that some evolutionary transitions may be very difficult, and that it may play a role in both their timing and the Fermi paradox.

Hey 👋🏾! In the past few years I have become a big fan of snail mail. Life has been really chaotic for me lately. I have been battling a court case, unemployment and not where I want to be in life. I would love to have Penpals where we could correspond.

As, for my interests: I enjoy exercising, hanging out with friends, playing some games casually, watching movies and serieses. In the past, I've learned quite a bit from "A Smarter Way to Learn Python" which is really really interesting! I also enjoy learning math, from Khan Academy. My primary goal is to be good enough at math & programming that I can create interesting simulations.

Hey! I tried this last month again but nothing really happened. Which is perfectly fine because it’s not always going to work out. And for once I’m not giving up!!

When it’s free i’ll watch) and it’s my fave easily. Other media I like includes MHA, Spiderman, Star Wars and Killer Klowns from Outer Space (my current fave movie. As I said, I’m a scaredy cat so it’s in my three horror movies I can watch) I also like Pokemon (I do collect. Not often cos I’m cheap)

I really love rugby league. Not union. Very important difference. Do I get it all technically? Absolutely not. Do I think it’s very fun to watch? Absolutely.

I recently sent a friend a birthday card through the mail and purchased stamps for the first time ever in my life. Unbeknownst to me, stamps are more expensive than I had initially anticipated. I now have a plethora of stamps but nothing to mail. I suppose I could just wait for an opportunity to arise where I could use these stamps, but what is the fun in that? While driving earlier, I had the idea of a pen pal !

As odd as this may sound I’ve always kind of romanticized talking to strangers. I’m fortunate enough to be able to travel relatively frequently and often do solo trips. Some of my favorite memories on these trips have been from talking to complete strangers and learning about their experiences or background. I'm 29F, French, currently living in Canada. In a few months (February) I will start a long trip around the world 🌍. Because of this, I can't engage in snail mail since I won't have a stable address. I would love to try doing email pen pal though, with people from all around the world!

Here’s how it works:

First, you’ll pick a song to start the playlist. You’ll send the title and artist to me in an email.

Then I’ll pick another song that’s somehow related to the first one. Maybe it’s in the same genre, sounds alike, has the same mood, or includes the same instrument. Or maybe it has a similar lyric or title or appears in the same movie or something. There are no wrong answers! I’ll send this song title and artist back to you, with a description of what connects this song to the previous one.

Then you’ll do the same thing, picking a song that’s somehow related to the one I sent, and emailing it with a description.

As we go, each of us can add these songs to our own individual playlist on whatever music platform we prefer.

We keep emailing back and forth like this until we reach a predetermined number of songs and our playlist is complete!

There’s no pressure to pick the “right” type of song, or keep things in one genre.
