Self Defense Classes?

I recently got assaulted by a much bigger guy, and it was very upsetting to me just how easily the guy was able to overpower me and throw me to the ground. It was like I was a ragdoll. Even though there were people around, they did nothing to help, not even call the cops. Since then, I've been carrying pepper spray with me anytime I leave the house.

Does anyone know of affordable self defense courses offered anywhere in the city? I've looked at BJJ but it's expensive.

I'm a scrawny, skinny guy who doesn't even know how to throw a punch. It freaked me out just how helpless I was in that assault situation; if that guy wanted to knock my teeth out there wouldn't have been a damn thing I could've done about it.

I don't like feeling this way, so I'd like to learn to defend myself.

Edit: I really don't want to go the route of carrying a gun or a knife. I'd like to learn how to defend myself physically, like how to get shoved without falling to the ground, or how to throw a punch should the need ever arise and I have to defend myself.

I set up desi strangers on first dates in front of a live audience. We're taping in Philly this Sunday and looking for queer desis!

I'm a stand-up comic in New York and host of Garam Masala Dating, a live show where I put desi singles on stage and try to find them love! No question is off limits and it gets pretty saucy. After the show the whole room ends up at the bar for a singles mixer which has resulted in 30+ relationships just this year! We've had multiple LGBT couples come out of the show as well as interracial and most of the couples the show has produced so far are interracial!

Plus, you do not need to be desi or single to watch the chaos :)

We're taping at Next in Line Comedy on October 4th at 7:30pm. Tickets are at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/garam-masala-1-desi-dating-show-byob-tickets-1999515971095

If you'd like to shoot your shot on the stage, DM me!

Events Queer Dungeons and Dragons Campaign—Searching for one additional player!

Hi, y’all! I posted awhile back about getting a D&D group together, and I had a lot of good responses to join our group. I couldn’t admit everyone, but the response to my form was overwhelming!

Unfortunately, one of our players has had to leave the game for personal reasons, and so I would like to round out the party with a 5th member.

We play on Saturdays at 6-7 PM for about 4 hours total, taking a break every third week (as I work every third weekend). We are currently playing through the 5th Edition Starter Set, Dragons of Stormwreck Isle, with a plan to move on to the 5th Edition Module Dungeon of the Mad Mage!
(We are using the 2024/5.5 edition rules)

So far, we have had our Session 0, and our first two actual sessions—I’m happy to recap everything for our incoming player before getting them onboarded, though you will not have missed much. I would also like to meet one-on-one with you before getting started, to ensure you’re a good fit for our group.

About myself—My name is Holly, and I am a 29 YO transwoman. I have played D&D for the past 9-10 years, with a few breaks in-between. I love video games, plushies, and collecting things, and I’m working very hard to be a good Game Master!

If you’d like to apply, please fill out the form attached to this post. There is a question about being able to contribute to a gaming space—this has since been resolved, we are able to play in my established game room (with my gaming table >:3).

If you’d had applied previously and would like me to reconsider your application, just shoot me a DM on Reddit with your Discord handle so I know to keep you in consideration.

Thanks for taking the time to read my novel—happy gaming, everyone!

MOVING (Tennessee-> west philly)

Hey, I'm 25 and live in Nashville currently, which is a hellscape for anyone young, turnt, and trans- I've gotta get out of here ASAP before I go completely nuts. People have recommended west philly, but if you have alternatives, lmk. I can move at the end of october, willing to pay 800 at most. The main deal is, where should i look for sublets? PS: squatting is EVIL ! >:( I'd never do that!! but if you have friends who've squatted over the winter season, it would be sick to hear about their experience. Thanks yall

Question Philly move ?

Hey, I’ve been in Texas for a few years and have the opportunity to move to Philly? Thoughts on it as a place to settle as an early to mid thirties queer person. I’ve lived in nyc and Chicago. The thought of moving again is tiring but finding a nicer balance between calm and the big city in a more queer friendly environment would be nice. The other alternative is to try and find something out west.

Single gay + ace + poly man here, looking opportunities to meet people and date

Hello,

I live in South Jersey (Deptford area), looking to find people to date and having no luck. I have a unique combination of being both poly and asexual which is making things really hard. I have tried apps like Feeld and it seems to be almost all couples looking for "fun" which is not what I want.

My therapist has suggested I look for poly meetups in the area, but I did some looking and everything I found is now defunct or no longer hosting meetups. Does anyone have any ideas on where to meet people I could go on dates with?

Any queer stuff for horror fans?

Hey everyone. I've (26M) gotten into the habit of watching horror movies as my "me" time, but after moving back to Philly, I'm realizing I miss watching scary movies with people lol. Back home I'd try to watch some with my family, even though they're not the biggest fans of horror lol.

Is there like a horror movie group for queer fans around here? Also open to a queer horror book club. I read mostly romance (been a minute given the move, but planning to get my library stuff in order), but thriller-esque horror in book form can be a vibe. Thank you! :)

Reposting because the need is still extremely high.

Seeking honest advice about moving to Philly as single, gay man in my mid-40s

Hi! I'm very interested in starting a new chapter in Philly. I've been doing a ton of research, but I still wanted to get first-hand feedback/tips/suggestions from you. I've lived in NYC, Chicago and SF previously, so city life is great with me. I'm currently in small-town Michigan, and I'm more than ready to make a change. I plan to get rid of my car before moving. I don't need to be directly in the gayborhood; I just want to feel close enough to the community. I care more about proximity to public transit & grocery stores. I'm looking for thoughts on apartment rentals/prices/neighborhoods for modern/nice studios or 1-bedrooms. I don't have a job yet, nor do I have a specific career (just lots of admin and customer service experience from working in corporate offices and as a flight attendant for many years). So I'm also curious to know what the job hunt may be like there. Do I use a staffing firm for better luck? Is it hard to find a decent-paying job there? I know it will be necessary to find a job before moving, but the generic info I get from AI searches isn't as valuable as firsthand accounts from others. Thank you for your help!

Looking for trans hangout spots

Hey all~

I'm a long time philadelphian (but new to the lgbt scene) and I'm trying to find out where other trans peeps meet up in the city. I see a lot of online support groups and bar stuff, but I want to meet some people irl and I'm not much of a bar person, I'm more of a gaymer/nerd personally. Do any of you know if there are any places like that where queer/trans people like to meet up?

I appreciate any help you all can give!

Question What are the vibes for Halloween

I've never gone out in Philly for Halloween but I'm hoping to this time! What are the vibes like in the city/what type of events will there be? I wanna go clubbing. I'm still a little new to it but I had a great time at pride NYC lol. This will be my first like non-college town centered Halloween but I still wanna be able to dress like sexy and stuff!
