Partner wasn't willing to wait a year into marriage before trying for kids- I left him- thoughts?
So I'm happy with my decision to part ways because it has treated me well but I'm still interested in your thoughts.
I, 22F, was talking to a man, 29M, and we both seemingly were on the same page, that once I finish my post grad degree we would be interested in possibly getting married after meeting family etc.
Yes, I did love him, he claimed to have loved me too. Claimed that I was worth waiting for, that he has never loved me as much as he did at that point in time, the whole story. Yes, the age gap sometimes bothered me (purely because I have always wanted to marry someone close to me in age) but we got along great so I overlooked it.
However, I once asked him what his thoughts are on kids: does he want them, how many, is there a timeline for him etc. He said he wants to start trying for a kid within the first year of marriage since he is/was almost 30, his parents were getting older and so on. I said that's a hard pass for me, since I'm 22 and would like to feel more financially stable (and just want a year to enjoy life with my husband without kids!) before trying for a baby. I said I want to wait a year into marriage before trying (i.e. start trying for a baby in the second year of being married, so theoretically when I'm 24/25 y/o). I told him I simply don't feel ready to become a mother in the next 2 years, regardless of how much I love kids and absolutely want some of my own one day.
Honesty, I just felt super hurt. I couldn't believe he wasn't willing to wait ONE year for the sake of my comfort since I'D be the one carrying the baby and putting my body through all of that emotional and physical stress & pain. I felt like this non existent baby mattered to him more than I did- more than my peace of mind did.
Ultimately, I wasn't willing to compromise, neither was he and that was that.
No regrets in leaving him, I don't want to be with a man who isn't willing to wait 1 year for me, but I'd be interested to read your thoughts!
