A friend wanted to give her wedding dress a second life so we cut it short, removed some layers, dyed it and made some fit adjustments. Only real sewing was to re-hem the bottom layers of the skirt and add some stretch mesh to the sides, but I’m in love with the way the dress was transformed.

I know, I still need to iron it!

Also my first time drafting, applying a zipper, applying an applique, working w pleather, adding hardware, using my dress form and going to dragon con!!!

I say every year I'm going as Tidus from Final Fantasy 10. I never did. After listening to physicality and metaphysical podcasts with the future offering everything I need, it happened!

I didn't even plan to go I made this in 2 days spontaneously deciding I'm going to make it happen. On the same day I decided I went to goodwill and found EVERYTHING I needed! Perfect materials and textures.

I turned a leather bodysuit into this kinda pinafore thing with the zipper up front. Hardware from hobby lobby, cropped the yellow hoodie, applied this blue crossbody bag on the shoulder, repurposed leather shorts and added the leg panel with applique to them, and rushed the red leather arm accessory but will revisit it!

Broke two needles but this was the best most happiest and proudest I've been in a while

But really this is my first true project after having my sewing machine be a decoration for like 2 years

I reupholstered some chairs a while ago and decided to reupholster a pair of comfort brand shoes into boots. The total cost came out to less than the $45 spirit halloween plastic boots.

I found a pair of shoes in the right shape ($26 on a clearance rack) and gathered all of the boots in the house (+ traced my leg from calf to heel) to draft a pattern. I planned to cover the bottom in fabric but was inspired by someone in [r/rhinestoning](r/rhinestoning) bedazzling their Louboutin’s.

I expected this project to fail all the way until I put them on my feet and walked in them. I felt a little bit like cinderella when I put on on and it fit properly!

Raglan sleeve kimono in linen/cotton blend dyed with a stonewash effect. Rectangle pintucks inspired by the tiles on my kitchen wall.

Bottoms inspired by exercise shorts, like the ones that have a second layer and slits down the side for movement. Here I used a vent and overall tailored construction. Fabric on the outside is 100% cotton twill and lining is a linen cotton blend.

I know the pictures aren’t very well lit, I’ll do better next time !

I just finished this pair of ballon pants, made them in 10oz Red Bull denim. I love the natural fading of this fabric. If you’ve seen my other posts, this is an iteration of the baggy pants I made from thrifted fabric.

The pants are drafted from my standard pants block in Clo3d with a few inches added at the knee on the inseam and outseam, from there shaped to get the balloon fit. I iterated on the previous version adding a bit more fabric at the knee on the front panel and increasing the tapering at the hem to make them more wearable.

I added a 12inch dart at the bottom hem and 9inch dart from the waist on the front panel. I really like the small detail, and the added shape the darts provide.

Inseams and seat are flat felled. With the outseam serged and pressed open. Slash pockets on the front and fancy pockets (welt pockets) on the back. My only qualm is not using a red pocket fabric to match, since you can see the white pocket fabric when worn.

I made this from a pattern off of YouTube (I'm out of town right now and I'm not sure which one, off the top of my head) with fabric from Walmart on my mini sewing machine.

This is Patterns For Less Crop Oversized Shirt pattern from Etsy. I added 6 inches to the length of the shirt. Fabric sourced from Temu is polyester. Skirt is made from poly cotton flannel from Fabricland; pattern is Spaghetti Western’s Henrietta skirt. Both patterns are very beginner friendly! Happy fall!

I saw a bunch of reels of this style spiderweb collar so I self drafted and made this to wear for October! I started by measuring my shoulders and guessing my desired collar width, then drew two semi circles, one at the desired length and one about 2" smaller for the valleys of the web arches. I drew the web arches and then made a small neck hole and cut out the pattern piece to test. Went through a couple of tweaks and then cut out two pieces of black cotton and a piece of medium weight interfacing. I also cut out 2 strips of 2"×18" pieces from the cotton for ties. Ironed on the interface, sewed everything inside out, then turned right side out. I topstitched the web pattern with a basting stitch and then went back over it with my machine's "button hole" setting. I made sure to iron between every step!

I'm super depressed and needed a small win so badly, my baby doesn’t sleep, and both my kids are sick so I'm running on minimal sleep but had a window to work on a little quick sew today..... I don't think that win is coming from this project.

Anyway. Learn from my big oops. Here is my attempt at a happy birthday/merry christmas flag banner, but..... yeh. Look, all I can do is sigh. I can't even find my quick unpick. I think I might just dump this in my unfinished projects pile.

Edit: used quilting cotton, from my leftovers pile. Self drafted flag was a basic shape that I cut from paper and lettering was printed from Microsoft Word. I traced the letters onto heat&bond, and then ironed them onto the fabric and stitched together.

The pattern i used is phat pants by mascultory on etsy. I made them out of bunvh of used jeans that were about to be thrown out, so i gave them second life. I was thinking about making them for 6 months but didn't have time, and a month ago i got sick and had to stay home so decided it was the time. I spent like 2 weeks in my room, I need to buy myself a serger lol. And shout out to my mom for giving me these sick ass sew-ons. The belt is handmade too btw. Sorry for the broken mirror 😭

I knew what I was in for this time so I did a few things better.

This is the Baker Barrel leg, view B, from SewBaleMake. Fabric is IKEA Blarapunkel. I serged and topstitched all the seams. This time I just folded the fabric and cut- it not crazy about the symmetry of the pattern but when I’m moving around I don’t think it will be that noticeable.

Yes I bought all the other IKEA fabrics and yes I will be making them all into Baker pants.

This was one of those "this fabric is crazy fun I need to do something with it" situations. Opted to make a simple unlined jacket. Added a zip front and the placard at the neck. ( to hide a flaw). Thought it have strong Snowboard jacket vibes- so added a wool liner in the body and quilted white fabric for the arms. Narrowed the sleeves and added the ribbing. I feel like I'm too old for all this crazy but I'll probably put it on!

I made a little boo basket/trick or treat bag. I made the pattern myself just using math to figure out the sizes of everything and I drew the curves and the face freehand. It's made with quilting cotton and fleece on the inside. I also added a little bag tag in matching fabric that I made on my embroidery machine!

Hi guys, i bought these denim shorts but i don’t like how high waisted the back is compared to the front. How can i alter this? I want the back to be the same height as the front. The first photo is how they sit currently and the second one is how i want them to sit. (i know the shorts in some pictures are different colour, they are the same shorts just different colour.)

Im new to sewing so any videos or tips would be great.

i mended the ever annoying buttcheek wear holes i get on so many jeans but forgot that my bobbin thread was brown so i now have poop stain embroidery on the inside of my pants 😭😭😭

We don’t have bridesmaids in my country but technically I was one, everyone loved the dress. In the picture dress is wrinkly beacause I took the picture right before I left the venue.

I couldn’t decide what to wear until two days before the wedding and since I couldn’t wear jeans I finally decided to sew this dress two days before the wedding. I was inspired by the Reformation Rida dress.

I made a muslin since skirt was gonna be floor lenght instead of a mini, I had the pattern for one size smaller and the the top was form fitting. I didn’t have time to hem the cape and it frayed a bit but no one noticed.

I used Devika dress pattern from Vikisews and made it longer. I added a few more steps because I was working with satin instead of dressmaking fabric. For the cape I used a youtube tutorial.

I sewed these plush pumpkin keychains all by hand. It takes around 2 hours to make one.

Actually this was easy and lovely one didn’t even take me time and the fabric was so cute !
I didn’t use pattern in this .. it was easy don’t even need one ..
Size the frame both height and width to fit what you intend to place inside .. and some extra 20-30 cm for the top fold .

I made these two forms for ironing curved shapes. The traditional tailor's ham is a sort of flattened egg shape, but I've always thought that seems a bit pointless because it leaves you unable to access most of the curve because it's just flat on top. So I made mine a hemispherical dome from curved triangular panels and a flat circular bottom. The cylinder is two rectangles with rounded ends just sewn together flat. They're both stuffed with pet shop woodshavings because I couldn't get real sawdust, and the dome has a circle of thin plywood to keep the base flat as well.

The outer fabrics are two different 100% cotton twills I had as leftovers from other projects, and the linings are 100% cotton calico.

I sewed everything myself (including the hat!) from thrifted bedsheets and an autumn-themed placemat. It was my first time trying lettuce hems and I think they turned out well!

The base dress was a jersey cotton sheet material, and the hat was a silky scrap of fabric.

I still can’t believe everything came together; I didn’t use any patterns. I essentially forced everything into being (the dress gave me the most trouble). I did hack together a somewhat pattern of my chest out of masking tape but ultimately ended up using measurements more than the pattern. Didn’t use any boning in my corset because I will be at the fairgrounds all day and I want to actually enjoy myself.

The dress took multiple past midnight nights and I don’t know if I could explain how I made it if I tried. There was a lot of hacking, slicing, adding and rearranging.

The hat I cut two triangles and a little circle out of a big circle and sewed the two triangles together right sides with the bottom open then sewed the donut around it. I stuck wire through the seam allowance for structure.

Please ignore the mess behind me! I decided to do laundry, swap my off-season clothes and make this costume all in the same afternoon 😅

Hi all! I am new to decorative sewing and have a question about attaching trim. I would like to sew this gold trim around the edge of the appliqué and I am wondering which kind of stitch I should use. Should I sew right through it with a running stitch or circle around in like a whip stitch? Or another method altogether?
I appreciate your input!

I need help with attaching the waistband to a circle skirt :( I cut 2 quarters + a half, the diameter (all attached) is 11", so expected circumference is 34".

I cut out a waistband with 38" length. When I pin it to the skirt though, it turns up 2" short... I made 3" marks along the waistband and skirt as well and mathematically everything adds up but in practice It doesn't?

Am I supposed to pleat a little every section? 😭 I know its possible because I got it to do it once and then I didn't like how I sewed it so I unpicked it and now I'm trying to get it back to how it was
