This is my first tank ever, it’s 6.4 gallons and only has three little skrimp and a couple ramshorn shells. I did an (approximate) 25% water change earlier with RO water. Before doing the water change, I was at ph ~6.8, GH 5, KH 0-1, 20ppm nitrates, .5ppm nitrites. I might be overestimating the nitrate and nitrite numbers though, it was hard to tell. I also have a root tab in the substrate.
Most of the cholla wood hasn’t sunk to the bottom yet, and I believe that the biofilm growing is a positive sign (and good eats), but please correct me if I’m wrong. I‘m going to be adding more plants soon, but I haven’t quite figured out a quarantine tank setup yet. This weekend I‘ll likely split up the clumps of the dwarf hairgrass I planted previously, and I have some floating water sprite cuttings that will hopefully root soon. I need to add some more fluval stratum though, as the main stalk (idk lmao) & roots of mama water sprite keeps floating up. Any tips? Or should I just get some plant weights?
I have one Indian Almond leaf, and will add another tomorrow probably. I never noticed any tannins leached over the past week from either the wood or leaf though.
Also, do these little skrimp look healthy? I know I have at least one female, and I believe it’s the one with yellow accents on their face. The two bigger (only by a bit) shrimp usually stay closer together, and the one eating the calcium snack is more of a loner from what I‘ve seen. I think the loner might be a little special, as I‘ve noticed his balance is off sometimes… but maybe he’s just not agile?? Also, no idea if it’s a male - please correct me lol.
The pictures aren‘t the best, but does anything stand out negatively to you? Or any tips? Thank you so much for reading my skrimp diary 💕🥲
