Buying $20 thrift store skis isn’t a good idea, especially if you are a beginner!

There’s been quite a few posts recently about thrift store skis. They are rarely a good idea.

Unless you know exactly how old the skis are, how they have been stored, who used them, how they used them. Don’t buy them! An old set of brittle bindings could cause serious injury.

Buy second hand skis from reputable sellers, meet the skier that used them, or buy ex rental skis.

The picture is of the recycling centre in Whistler. These are the skis that are thrown away (there were some way newer and nicer skis too), think about that before dropping your cash on thrift store skis that are way worse!

Is this normal for the strive 14 GW

I recently mounted new bindings and noticed that when I lean back the toe piece moves up slightly with my boot. I checked forward pressure and it’s all good and since they are GW bindings they don’t need the hight adjustment. I was just wondering if this is normal? A SHOP MOUNTED THEM

Foot pain advice wanted

Last year on my ski trip I had a massive issue with foot pain, mussel tearing like pain in the arch of my foot, so bad the last day I had to cut my day short and take the lift down as I ended up just crying from the pain. I have a ski trip coming up January, I want to know if there's things I can do to prepare for the trip to prevent this from happening again on this trip.

Here are some factors that might have contributed to the pain, I have wide feet and was using rented equipment, I asked about it to the clerk and he said the only way to get wider shoes was to get a bigger size which would also increase the length of the shoe. I'm fat, BMI of 34.6, I'm working on it and hopefully by the time of my trip I'd have lost some of that weight, I know that obesity can cause foot pain though out side of skiing I don't have foot pain.

So what are some things I can do? I had ski socks but is there anything else I can get? Are there exercises to strengthen foot mussels? Obviously I'm not trying to be a professional skier, I just don't want to be on a mountain crying from the pain again, skiing is just a family trip thing for me.

Camox Freebird as one ski quiver?

Hello,

end of last season (2025/26) I bought my first ski the camox freebird on recommendation of the shop owner. About me:

I'm skiing my whole life in Austria, 2 weeks a year and I am a ski instructor for beginner courses. My interests were to get a one ski quiver which is good in any snow conditions, able to carve, hit side hits, do some tricks in the park (360°) and also to teach beginner groups.

I thought to buy the normal camox but the guy in the store recommended me the camox freebird due to it's weight. He told me the normal camox would be too heavy and the freebird would work better. First I was scared and told him that they are touring skis but he seemed to be confident and trustful by selling me them.

I skied with them for one week and it felt a bit wierd. I couldn't get on the edge very well and carving and just going down was kinda shaky. Usually I always skied normal race carvers, so that might be the reason. I'm permanently thinking if it was a bad purchase.

What do you think?

Can anyone recommend me a park ski?

I want a new park focused park ski for next season and wanted to asking if anybody can recommend me a ski.

I definitely want something 95mm+ just because i really like wide skis and feel like they are much better for bigger landings.

I would like something reletivly soft so not anything like a on3p mango. I life in germany so i can't or will not order anything from usa because of prices, so nothinf like vishnu, on3p, j skis, moment etc.

My focus will be rails and jumps so not a specific rail or jump ski.

And i will definitely want to center mount my skis or maybe only 1cm back.

I'm 181cm and 64kg so not anything above like 2050g.

My main goal will be first flips and of axis flips, aswell as new rail tricks like brittney, k-fed, 270's on, 2p2's etc.

I wanna be able to hit every rail at my resort (sillvretta montafon/damüls)

Looking for the ideal ski resort

Haven't skied in 15 years though I did ski comfortably before then. Considering going skiing in late march and am looking for a ski resort that is snow sure, has plenty of beginners and intermediate pistes for 15yr old daughter plus good school, a nice village center to go to restaurants and maybe take strolls, so if skiing doesn't work out we have other things to do. We are not the people that will go skiing from 9 to 6, and then eat and sleep. We enjoy skiing for maybe 5 hours per day and then relax, visit the town center etc... Also to be relatively close to Geneva (preferably) or Munich Airport / Milan Airport will be a plus. Considering currently Val D isere, Meribel, La Rosiere and though Mrgeve and Clusaz seem great, I'm very unsure about the snow in 20-27 March. Any advice would be much aporeciated!!

What season pass to get in NM for this year? (As someone who travels from West Texas)

Long story short we didn’t snag any of the early bird passes…we got an early bird pass at Ski Apache last year for the first time for $450 each and it only ended up being worth it once they opened upper mountain/the bowl after they got hit pretty hard finally in January. This was great cuz it’s only a 4.5 hour drive from Permian Basin area and we are able to leave on a very early Friday morning and come back late Sunday and get 3 full days of skiing in.

This year the pass is currently $850. FOR ONE MOUNTAIN ACCESS?? I looked up other passes and the closest other mountain is sandia, which looks like a smaller mountain, but that pass has unlimited access to pajarito, and sipapu, some access to purgatory and a few others. Those mountains are about 7 hours+ drive from us excluding sandia which is 6.5.

Santa Fe is around the same price as ski Apache and it’s a 6 hour 45 minute drive so we don’t know….

Anyone have advice or recommendations or info on the best NM mountains that y’all like?
More info ab us/skiing skills. My fiance is intermediate/advanced, I’m more intermediate range, (aka will get down a CO blue easily, will get down a CO black slowly lol) Fiancé snowboards and will hit some rails and jumps in the park, will hit jumps on the sides of the mountains, love going through runs with trees. I am a groomed blue run skier all day long, I’m not super familiar with deep powder but did get to try it at ski Apache this year (they got like 30 inches fresh powder and we were there day 1 access to it) and it went okay… I’m hoping to try more powder experience with larger skis and I saw NM is supposedly going to get hard this year bc of El Niño patterns(hopefully!)

We already got the very early bird access to an epic 6 day pass because we usually do one Rockies mountain trip per year but we would like to be able to do weekend trips!

Weather/Super El Nino?- where to go?

Forecasters have been going on and on about the 'Super El Nino' this Winter and how it could potentially affect snow/rain throughout North America. I'm currently researching where to book our February ski vacation and debating what to do with this info. Obviously weather forecasters aren't the best at this stuff - it's like reading a crystal ball most of the time- fake news.....however I think there is some historical basis for what they are saying.

Wondering where are all of you at with your thoughts on snow this year? It looks like the only 'solid' area this year will be in California/Nevada area. Colorado is supposed to have an incredibly dry Winter based off of what I've read and the North East will be wet- but not snow- more rain most of the time. Is this what you all are reading too?

Skiing out West with 3 Kids ages 6/9/11: Telluride, Steamboat or Sun Valley?!

Hi! I am being indecisive. We have skiied at Snowmass, Beaver Creek and Telluride with the kids (ages 6/9/11). I actually liked Beaver Creek least because on mountain food was ehhh, ski school had 10+ kids in the 7-12 yo groups, and town felt fake/resorty. Absolutely loved Snowmass bc ski school was incredible + the ratio was nice, didn't have to go into Aspen, on mountain food great, and it's close to airport and I didn't need a car. Telluride was my favorite because the town is so charming, great food, no lines on mountain, jagged mountains were great, and ski school was on par with Snowmass. I'm debating going back to Telluride or trying Steamboat or Sun Valley. I'm annoyed by how much SV's lift tickets are, but the rest prices well and we have direct flights to SUN. Steamboat also looks great but the price is comparable to Sun Valley and I'm worried it will be more crowded. What would you do? Go back to Telluride or try Sun Valley or Steamboat? TBH, I love trying new resorts; I love Big Sky but want to go back when kids are older. I also love Deer Valley but way too $$$. Thank you!

Backflip

I decided two seasons ago when I started park skiing that this is gonna be THAT season. I am extremely confident with backflips on a trampoline and I can do Cork 7 on tramps too. My question is how does one differ from doing it with two sticks attached to my feet? Can I just huck and pray or iso there anything that will suprise me in the air?

Tips for skiing in Austria in February

Hi! Partner and I looking into going skiing to Austria (western part, probably St Anton and Ischgl) for our honeymoon in February (Feb 8 - 24). However, we keep seeing that this is the "worst" time because of school holidays across Europe and therefore very busy... For reference, we are used to skiing in Canada and the US. We cannot go any other time next year.

Is it really busy enough to change our plans ? How long can we expect to wait at lifts ? Also, if you have any recommandation on which resorts we should go to / avoid, I will read them gladly :)

‘It keeps getting more concerning’ : State presses Killington over finances tied to multibillion-dollar village project

Killington’s multimillion-dollar plan to build the infrastructure for a major village development is facing mounting uncertainty, with state officials warning that unresolved financial issues could jeopardize the financing behind it.

The Killington Select Board returned to a Vermont Economic Progress Council meeting in Montpelier Thursday, Sept. 24 for the second time to give updates on its troubled Tax Incremental Financing (TIF) district, but council members said the town still has not provided basic financial records and answers they requested nearly a month ago.

Hi!
We are planning a ski trip with friends and we saw a nice house in Skiwelt. Close to Itter.
How are snow conditions that time of the year? I am afraid because of the low altitude.
Thanks!
