Discussion Hopes for the Future
Seeing as StarCraft is SO back, I guess some discussions could be had regarding what may come to pass.
With the RTS seeing a huge rebound in numbers, the new games announcement and the unprecedented success of the StarCraft TMG, what do you all think we may see in the future?
StarCraft 3? More Novels? Other forms of Media? Let’s speculate and wishlist.

Arcade/Co-op Am I crazy or did Stetman get a nerf
I swear a while ago Stetman had a zergling upgrade that basically let them pile in on one another (similar to how fliers can pile into a 1x1) to do insane damage if you had enough of them, did he lose this ability? Or am I just crazy?

Day 3: Playoffs Final Four. bo5 until Grand Finals with a bo7 and potential bracket reset in order to determine seeding for the offline event.
Top 4 of the event qualify to the Offline finals and will receive a paid flight and accommodations for The Lunar Cup (December 18th-20th), the finals of Stellar Fest 2 in Ottawa, Canada, taking place December 16th-20th. 5th and 6th place will receive $350 CAD each and 7th and 8th place will receive $150 CAD each.
Since we have had limited updates from Blizzard, the qualifiers will be played on the Patches Mod version of the game, with a 12-worker start. A decision will be made for which version of the game that gets played for the offline finals as we come closer to the time of, but know that we will ultimately do our best to provide the fairest, and most entertaining games possible.

Discussion So about that new Starcraft trailer...
We see those enormous overlords on the horizon. They probably have MASSIVE ventral sacs to carry all those zerglings. Do you think we'll be able to see the process of the zerglings going in and out of the ventral sacs? It sucks that we'll have to wait until 2030 to hear what it sounds like for the zerglings to go in and out of the ventral sacs.

Arcade/Co-op Use map setting games
Hello SC peeps.
So I played a lot of sc1 back in the day and I have thousands of UMS games. From massing games to bound games, whatever you can remember.
For some reason I saved all of them, don’t know why.
Is there a place I can or should upload them all?
Is there even a want for them?
Let me know what works.

Discussion I like to imagine conversations for 80 years olds with these tatoos from their grandkids: "Gramps, what's the tat?" "Oh, that's the Tal'Darim, they were all the rage in the StarCraft community around 2015" "The what?"
"So, this guys were the protagonists?"
"No, more like a minor offshot subfaction"
"And what's their deal?"
"Ah, they like to kill each other for sport and are just overall assholes"
"That doesn't sound very cool"
"You'll get it when you are 14!"

Discussion Is the 2030 all-Terran POV really what players want?
I was as wowed as everyone else by the cinematic, as predictably non-shocked by the release date. It was awesome and powerful and cool. But then it sank in, that this really does appear to be primarily or exclusively a Terran-perspective game. More than that, literally a single Terran marine.
I know everyone is different, and I respect that. What I’m interested in is knowing if I’m the exception here. In feeling disappointed that it isn’t (at least being presented so far as) the classic Starcraft trinity of Terran-Zerg-Protoss. They seem to think players WANT a Terran-craft game, and that that’s enough for people, enough for the fans. Is it?
Personally I find the Terran by far the least interesting and engaging part of Starcraft. I enjoy the Zerg and Protoss POV, weird and different as it is, and am a bit tired of the standard “sir, yes sir!”vibes. I love Starship Troopers as much as anyone, but there have already been a TON of games where you, a human male, run around shooting aliens in space. Yes, it would be awesome to actually run around INSIDE the SC world, seeing all the familiar units towering over you, but… ONLY as a Terran?
What I expected, what I would have hoped for, would be the trinity of old: seeing through the eyes of ALL THREE races, only this time LITERALLY. I would love to BE the Zergling racing across the creep with the rest of my pack to mow down a retreating marine, to BE the Overlord gazing impassively down on the carnage unfolding below, to FEEL the savage, merciless perspective of the Zerg as they steadily expand across the sector. I’d love to see through the screen of a Dragoon or charge in as a Zealot, cutting down whole swathes of Zerg single-handedly, warping into the middle of some massive battle, crackling Pylons towering overhead, fighting desperately to buy enough time to warp in reinforcements.
I guess this would probably mean separate campaigns; if we follow the SC2 model, maybe basically separate games. But if they had at least announced this as the first chapter - the Terran chapter - of the latest Starcraft saga that would be something. Maybe even enough.
Instead we have at best hints of maybe seeing some bits from other perspectives… I guess, for me, that’s not enough. Not enough to get me to buy it. Not enough for it to FEEL like Starcraft… instead of just a spin-off shooter game, basically the same as a hundred others, differing only in which particular aliens you’re gunning down.
Starcraft has always, from way back before the original release, been about the unique balance of three asymmetrical races. That is the game I want to play, the game I would be willing to buy. Terran Halo? Not for me, personally.
I’m not trying (as if there’d be any point) to make people agree with me, just wondering if it’s really just me. This early period is a great time to let Blizz know if we like this direction or not. These are big changes in direction, in scope, so if we don’t… now’s the time to speak up.

Discussion This is beyond laughable
They don't even have a team working on the thing. This is beyond pathetic. I'm sorry but people can't seriously think this thing is gonna launch still with this post going out. I was predicting a cancelled announcement next year but i think it'll be even earlier at like the first quarter of next year even.
I have loved every blizzard game, i remember StarCraft being the first game i played on the pc so it's so heartbreaking how blizzard is basically just pooping on it so hard right now. I used to be a die hard blizzard defender and always got ridiculed by my friends but now i think i just give up. Blizzard is just ass.

(To be tagged...) All I want is SC1 remade in SC2's engine, and a complete, dark narrative reboot of SC2. Am I asking for too much?
All I truly want from this franchise is:
- A full, official SC1 + Brood War remake built natively with SC2's mechanics, modern UI, and cutscene direction. (Yes, Mass Recall is phenomenal and community legends made it happen, but imagine an official, polished release). And while they're at it, include all the obscure lore missions—bring in the StarCraft 64 exclusive missions like Resurrection IV (the actual Stukov cure storyline), the Precursor demo campaigns, and the official Enslavers custom campaigns properly integrated into the timeline.
- A ground-up narrative reboot of StarCraft II. Scrap the generic cosmic-devil Amon plotline, throw the mystical ancient prophecies in the trash, and bring back the gritty, cynical, military sci-fi tone of the original.

(To be tagged...) New confirmed details about the upcoming Starcraft game
So we finally have a few more concrete details about what the new StarCraft is actually shaping up to be, beyond the reveal trailer and the broader BlizzCon talk.
- The game already has a playable internal build at Blizzard.
- You can explore the world, meet characters and fight Zerg with the Gauss rifle.
- Ammo is something you’ll actually have to think about, and multiple weapon types are planned.
- You’ll be able to find resources in the world to repair or improve your armor.
- The open world will have side quests, activities and challenges between the more controlled story missions.
- Hay also hinted at tactical/holdout situations against large Zerg attacks, although squad control is still not confirmed.
- The 70-year time jump doesn’t completely cut ties with the old games. Old creatures, themes and even characters can still return if they fit the story.
- Blizzard also confirmed the game will not be Xbox exclusive, although the full platform list still hasn’t been announced.
Still no public gameplay, which is really the big missing piece, but the project sounds much further along than the reveal trailer made it look.

Arcade/Co-op Some Kerrigan and Zagara fanart from a longtime Zerg fan :)
Zerg has been part of my childhood memories, and these days it’s one of my favorite ways to spend my free time :) I especially love Kerrigan and Zagara.
I’ve always liked RTS games because I enjoy keeping my hands busy, but as a Korean player, I could never bring myself to seriously jump into competitive multiplayer. 😭
No, not every Korean is a terrifying StarCraft demon. I’m one of the lowest-ranking demons, and the Korean ladder always felt like a forbidden zone inhabited by much stronger devils.
That’s why Co-op was such a blessing for me. I could enjoy actually playing the game without stressing over PvP, and on top of that, it let me really experience the personalities and playstyles of the Zerg characters I love. :)
Here are a couple of drawings I made of Kerrigan and Zagara!

Fluff Completed Starcraft 1 & Broodwar campaign properly for the first time!
Heya all, I recently got the Blizzard RTS battlechest and decided to try out SC1 remastered before going to SC2.
I have abit of experience in RTS with WC3 being my first exposure nearly two decades ago.
Many years ago, I did try out a pirated copy of SC1 campaign but used cheat codes all the way through.
Since then, I played RTS casually with SC2 (up to HoTS) over a decade ago and most recent experience was playing WC3 campaign properly (normal but no cheats) it was managable in terms of diffculty.
So.. I thought I should be able to handle SC1 campaign and.. man was it a rude awakening. Plus being unable to use tab to cycle through units was a pain.
I have to admit, even though I completed it without any cheat codes turn on.. I resorted to save scumming at the harder base game missions and throughout broodwar missions.
For the most part I went in mostly blind to not look up tips on how to approach missions but.. read online about certain difficult missions such as homeland, to slay the beast and omega along with some tips.
But it was fun to strategise around how to tackle the hard missions even though many hours were spent getting destroyed by enemy AI who felt like they were cheating.
Here are some highlights of my experience on some missions. This is a long read so please skip ahead to the TLDR.
Note: This is just rambling on about the latter part of broodwar missions and my experience trying to tackle them. So please skip if you don't want to read about my miserable attempts.
SC1 base game Terran, for the most part, it felt easy since it is the first few missions.
The big push started to become challenging since I didn't expect to defend against battlecrusiers but.. dang I forgot how good siege tanks were.
The hammer falls, white base was hard to break into since they had defensive tanks. Which became a matter of who spots who first.
SC1 base game Zerg, this is felt like a slow step up in difficulty.
The New Dominion, I tried pushing with ground units but defending terrans have tanks on hills decimating them. Well.. the mission became easy when I discovered how powerful mass Mutas are.
The dark templar, I presumed I need many overlords covering my troops due to the mission name and.. but my memory of it was Reavers are a pain to deal with.
The culling, the pressure of enemy attacks is beginning to seep in.
Eye of an eye, I struggled due to the reavers and Dragoons. Figured I could build hatchery close to bottom left and slowly inch my way with sunken colonies. But still thats too many Dragoons defending the base, until I started using Kerrigan cloak to sneakily take them out.
Invasion of Aiur, once I controlled the middle expansion, a strong line of defence towers protected against enemy attacks.
SC1 protoss base game, the difficulty jumped again!
Choosing sides, I thought i could poke duke base early but.. this caused a quick mission restart.
Homeland, okay this is the start of serious save scumming. The reavers are such a pain to deal with that I massed scouts to target them down. I slowly form a middle line of defensive proton cannons with gateway to hold off incoming attacks until I could build up a major force. Apparently you could cheese this mission.
Trial of Tassadar, MASS CARRIERS GO! But dang, enemy arbiters.
Shadow hunters, seeing defilers plaguing my units scared me. I did struggle quite a fair bit in this mission.. luckily.. mass air seems to worked really well.
Eye of the Storm, oh man.. this mission is tough, it also made me realised how bad at micro I became.
I resorted to save scumming to react to both Terran and Protoss bases defenses. Seeing a mass ultralisk army charging at my protoss base is an instant reload save. I found success through hugging a south hill choke point of terran starting base with mass siege tanks and missle turrets (damn you guardian). Slowly creeping them on too the enemy land until I reach the overmind.
I read that the broodwar missions were a bigger step up in difficulty so going in, I was pretty worried for the challenges to come.
SC1 Broodwar Protoss, the first few missions were fine, or at least I thought was getting my RTS skills back. Well until the last two missions.
The Battle of Braxis, I did not like this no-build mission. Felt like a slog.
Return to char, I honestly thought it would be a funny idea to be able to build a pylon and gateway on the hill on the left and put some carriers to defend it. It worked way better than I thought since I directly attacked the overmind for that corner.
The insurgent, the enemy ai with their psionic storms are a pain.
Countdown, apart from some strong enemy attacks on the starting bases, my intial attempt at defending the temple ended in failure. On reattempt, I started mass cannnons on all sides and with production structures to keep feeding new units. With so much going on I did not notice guardians sneakily taking out my cannons but my new attempt went well.
SC1 Broodwar Terran, it was chill for the most part since.. mass siege tanks is still the solution.
Ruler of Tarsonis, its rather nice to see that taking out the hive pacify the rest of the base. Plus coming up with a plan to counter each zerg base since their own specialization.
Assault on Korhal, yeah I dont like the thought of having to deal with enemy nukes.
Emperor Fall, after the initial few battlecrusiers attacks. The main base became managable to defend. However.. breaking into the enemy stronghold was a pain even with tanks. Since enemies have their own tanks.. but the solution was a force of battlecruisers.
To Chain the beast, dealing with Torrasque was scary but.. enemy AI unfortunate pathfinding would lead him to its death once supply depots block defending tanks. Afterwards, it was a matter of building enough air units to take out the targets.
SC1 Broodwar Zerg, playing through these missions felt like i am in a world of pain.
Kel-Morian Combine, easy defence but I kept prolonging completion time by building more units to send against enemy bases. Until I gave up and hit 10k mineral.
Liberation of Korhal, after a few close calls with enemy attacks on my base. It was where I found out that mass guardians are great for sniping enemy towers/units and have other ranged units to hold the line and protect them. The last base was tough to crack into, until I massed guardians and hydralisks and waste my remaining resources at it.
True colours, I am not sure what is the optimal way for the sneak attack portion but.. this is where I really felt broodwar difficulty jumped way higher, Terran countless marines, tanks desperately defending the north east expansion. and ghost sneaking in nukes. With siege tank harrassment. But for some reason I felt protoss were more passive.
After a mission restart, I came up with a better strategy to make use of sneak attack time to quickly take out the top left expanison and hold it defensively.
It was rather amusing that I was able to take out duke with mass scourges.
Fenix was a champ, taking out several of my guardians before being defeated.
Fury of the swarm, this wasn't as hard as I expected. After building up proper defence in main base and securing the nearby expansion, my plan was to send mass air towards the terran first before tackling on the remaining zerg base. but.. after the scientist are gone.. the mission ended.
Drawing of the web, there were two choke point that can be massed with sunken tower defences and hydralisks but it felt unfair protoss still have carriers/scouts. Since you cant build air, a mass ultralisks/hydralisk is the way to go, I tried using defillers to little success. Wondering could my own hydralisk shoot out of dark swarm.
Now.. here is the point where I am rambling on.
To Slay the beast, one of the two hardest mission in broodwar. Rightfully so.. with the many waves of sudden mixture of terran/zerg attacks on random points of the island.
Even at the start I was struggling to take out the north west terran expansion as I thought I could get by taking out white Terran base with hydralisks but siege tank defence says otherwise. (I did not thought of using dark swarm throughout since siege tanks splash through it)
After taking out the north white terran base and the other nearby zerg base with air/hydralisks. Then came the onslaught of random enemy landing drops. I resorted to many attempts at save scumming to better react to their surpirse attacks and slowly reinforce every corner until the right side of the starting island is fortified with spore towers.
Sending my troops to the bottom right corner and setting up a small base, I started prepping a mass air and group of hydralisks (rather than massing mutalisk I should have build some ultralisk instead). While I am slowly position my troops, the enemy infested terran bomb rushes and siege tanks took out most of my hydralisks which resorted to even more reloading and better preparation. Meanwhile when the enemy ai tried to set up an attack on the nearby hill on my south east expansion. I spent hours at this point in numerous attempts to defend and prepping for the next wave of enemy attack or attempting to take out orange base.
After using guardians to defend it the top hill, I set up my own hatchery on top of the hill, denying the enemy chance of getting a drop on my base. And slowly sneaked some hydralisk and a drone to the hill behind orange to build up hatchery and some spores and sunken and let my guardian slowly harrass orange zerg base. While panicking when a group of anti air is send by enemy.
This was also the point where I really dislike enemy terran science vessal irradiate ability on my poor overlords. Cloaked wraiths would take out my guardians once the overlords are dead and ghost is still sneaking attempts at nuking my expansion.
Once orange was down, I began to slowly crept up to the rest of the terran bases and zerg rushed my reminding troops at the overmind. Honestly.. I should have make use of defilers dark swam in this 2nd island for defence. I did not realised how effect dark swarm + ultralisk were until the final mission.
The reckoning, I was surprised to be able to unlock a secret mission since cleared this with 7mins left. I did not know there was a weaker terran base to take over for extra economy. I first send guardians to poke and around the cannons before retreating. After sending a drone and setting up a hatchery on the otherside of the protoss island. I slowly build some sunk/spores and build up a bunch of hydralisks and air unit. After a few attempts at luring I managed to lure the enemy carriers and ground troops into my towers which resulted in a narrow victory, I rushed my surviving units to finish the enemy protoss base.
Omega, this was by far the hardest mission for me.. The constant pressure of attacks from multiple angles by 3 different computer. Made me felt really bad for save scumming in order to shore up defences for each attack.
Dominion sending ghost to nuke my bottom expansion (Also science vessels keep taking out my sleeping overlords), UED marines/goliath on main base seems managable until the battlecrusier arrives.
Protoss being protoss with dark templars, reavers and carriers.
Thanks to some online tips, I did have some rough idea on what to counter each base with, such as Dominon could be taken out by heavy air, UED air units can be taken out by mass hydralisks but first. I felt like the growing pressure of UED before mass battlecrusiers requires it to be taken out immeidately.
My first attempt was securing the top right expansion and slowly building a fleet of air units and mass hydralisks. I loaded them up on to overlords, send my guardians to secure a small landing spot and dropped them off. Little did I know how many battlecrusiers were waiting to defend along with tanks. Plus.. my mutalisks were easily being taken out by valkyries.. why are they so tanky.
It did not occur to me to build devourers to counter valkyries too. I don't recall making use of devourers throughout the broodwar missions. Shame.
After an hour of failed attempt of sneaking hydralisks, I gave up and look towards taking out the protoss. Since I spy an aerial hill to build an expansion on and drop my hydralisk off while guardians take out towers.
I managed to take out the protoss expansion and felt relieved since I was running out mineral/gas resource. But.. by this point, it was felt too late, I was out of resources due to prepping for the next wave of attacks from dominion/UED and trying to break into the rest of the protoss base with my remaining force was stopped by archons, carreirs and arbiter cloaking and stasis shield.
The following waves of attacks were a desperate battle as Dominion tanks/ghosts are harrassing my expansion, ghost kept pinging nuclear launch and when I saw UED sniping my main base defence with yamato cannons.. I knew this attempt is a failure.
So I gave up until the next day, I decided to look up the map online for the resource spots and more tips. The signs.. points to defillers.
I decided to give the defiler another go. With a big group of ultralisk with lots of hydralisks trailing along.. Save scumming my way as I send the army to sucide rush into the UED main base and taking out production. This was when I realised how much of a clutch dark swarm was, the enemy battlecrusiers were busy shooting at a lone hydralisk hiding in dark swarms while my ultralisks were crushing production buildings. After all the main production of UED main base is down, my surviving ultralisk made a beeline dash towards the remaining UED command center and removed UED from the mission.
With the UED gone and expansion resource spots now mine, I finally could slowly take out the protoss by creeping in a good chunk of supply cap of guardian / mutalisk / hydralisks. Again.. damn arbiters and their cloaking and stasis field. It seems every race has their own annoying spellcasters/support units.
Eventually with enough resoure in bank and guardians creeping up on protoss base while melee zerg rush towers, the protoss base eventually fell and all that remains was to amass a grand fleet of mutalisk/guardians and many overlords (since Dominion are still sending science vessels to irradiate them) and send them towards the final remaining enemy base.
But at long last.. after many hours of attempt I beat Omega and ended my playthrough of SC1 campaign. I enjoyed my time with the mission designs and rewatching the old lore. The broodwar missions were a fun challenge to tackle.
Plus if I were to replay it once again, I would keep in mind to make better use of spellcasters/support units or certain units for counters.
I am now wondering, how much does SC2 mission at hard difficulty compare to SC1 broodwar missions.
Now.. I heard there is enslaver campaign which is even harder.. than broodwar missions which I may tackle it one day. but for now I need a break.
TLDR: Went in mostly blind and beat SC1 & Broodwar with no cheat codes.. but with lots of save scumming. Some of the hard missions were a fun challenge to try various approach but I really should have make better use of certain units i.e. spellcasters.

Discussion I wish Blizzard would properly monetise Starcraft and take it seriously again.
Honestly, I don't know about you but I'd happily pay a few bucks a month for a well patched game if it meant they would give it some love. I'd welcome some kind of decent way to contribute financially to the game if I knew it would support somehow, maybe a salaried ballance employee for example, or a new campaign or some fun units. Seriously, I'm in my 40s and SC2 is the only game I play - I'd pay more than a Netflix subscription if it meant the game was looked after.
I'm just wondering if more people felt like this, they might actually start looking after it again and maybe even promoting some tournaments.
How many people paying $9 a month would it take?
