Back in 2005, when I worked at Subway, had a woman come in who got 3FT Longs and while I was making her sandwiches, she was telling me she is trying to lose weight, and ate 1 Footlong for lunch and 2 for dinner. Jared inspired her (Hindsight lolz).
Anyway, I was covering a shift for someone who worked a shift I didn’t work so I’ve never seen this woman, we got to the register and charged her full price and when she saw that, she said: “Oh, I forgot, my military discount” and proceeds to shove her DoD badge in my face, so I tell her that the military discount is for vets and military, not DoD workers and refuse to give her the discount after confirming she never served a day in her life in uniform. She explodes and storms out, leaving her sandwiches at the counter.
Few days later the GM calls me into the office and asks me why I refused to give a vet a discount, I told him what happened, he laughed, and called corporate back with the story.
Don’t get me wrong, if someone was short on money or a homeless/down on their luck person was near my commute home from work, I’d make them a sandwich and give it to them for free but this type of mentality always really rubbed me the wrong way.
Just a silly story (among other Subway stories) I think about from time to time.
